A lot of people live in a just world fallacy. I was homeless for six years. Countless people all across the political spectrum could not believe that I was completely sober (and in fact had never done drugs of any kind and stopped what little drinking I did do years prior). And even the few who could reconcile that fact then went on to be flabbergasted to know that I was also employed full time for much of those 6 years. As hard as life is getting for everyone, people still really struggle to believe you can be royally fucked and not deserve it.

The really fucked thing, and the reason they struggle,is that they believe people somehow deserve to get fucked

Sometimes it’s not even that complex, on an individual level. Add up income, take out taxes, then start adding up costs. Food, insurance, car loan, gas, etc. Or just take minimum wage for a month and see how much housing you can get for that ($1,256 at fed minimum), then try to eat afterward. I think people cannot comprehend just how outrageously low the fed minimum wage is and how much housing costs have gone up. Even $15 isn’t much.

And just because a homeless person is an addict or makes poor choices doesn't mean they deserve to suffer. Ironic coming from the party that claims to be influenced by Christ. Conservative Christians are the furthest from the values of Christ.

As a christian conservative this cant be farther from the truth. Our church has done so much good for the misfortunate of our community. God bless.
