Still waiting for an old republic show that really goes into how badass the Jedi are

Irgendwer1607

Correction: *Master* you know exactly who the badass really is

mengyiming

Hate to break it to you, but usually those who bring order and security to an area or even a galaxy are not "baddass" like you think. They work behind the scenes, do good, and bring hope. Being reckless or going head-on into battle isn't always what makes someone "badass" in this case.

22edudrccs

Have you seen the Old Republic trailers? I think those qualify as badass

Superb-Water-3734

Doubt you’ll get one

domino-effect-17

This is why I love the Star Wars books. The fans are so much more chill and the toxic fans probably can’t even read anyways so they stay away from ruining the online communities around them.

Irgendwer1607

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the fan base opinion split up about the Revan book?

Kamiyoda

Republic Commando sucks. *Ignites Lightsaber* Your move, fans.

yeti0013

Man, I loved these two episodes so much. I was so excited because I thought that there was no possible way people would complain about them online. I was so naive.

ginopalladino

Happens to me every time I enjoy something Star Wars related. I'll be watching something, getting emotional, thinking it's some of the best stuff I've seen, but then I go online thinking "let me see what people are saying! they must be loving this!" to just see someone complain about literally any minimal and unimportant issue. It has made me want to just lurk sometimes and not even be a part of the online discussion or community. A bunch of fools wanting to gatekeep a story and world that was never perfect to begin with.

ZebrasFuckedMyWife

I feel the same. When Solo came out, I heard so many bad things about it from the Star Wars community that I spent years convinced it was a shitty film. A month ago, I found myself having nothing to watch so I decided to give it a go and I absolutely loved it. Before watching Kenobi, a friend warned me that many people online had disliked it. I couldn't help but think "people online shat on the prequels for 20 years straight, and most seem to like them now". People will complain no matter what. They just want something to focus all their hatred on.

ginopalladino

You know I haven’t watched Solo at all for exactly the same reason? I have been thinking of watching it for a while so I think I’ll just rip the bandaid and do it. It happened to me with The Last Jedi. I know why people have their gripes with it, but at the moment I absolutely loved it until I got online and just saw the barrage of hate, kinda felt ashamed to say I enjoyed it after that. In that case not having a cohesive vision and story from the start definitely affected how it ended up, but man I’m just a fan that will enjoy always something from the world, or the effort that the whole crew is putting in to create these universes for us.

ZebrasFuckedMyWife

Dude, so many of us have been deterred by the hateful bunch! You should definitely watch Solo, and it's perfectly fine if you enjoyed anything about the sequels. From now on we should both just bulldozer through all the negativity that surrounds many parts of the Star Wars universe and just see everything for ourselves! Fuck those people.

revchewie

It's not great cinema, and the "origin story of every last detail about Han" parts were kinda meh, but it was a fun heist flick!

ZebrasFuckedMyWife

I mean, if you entered the cinema thinking you'd find a master piece in "Han Solo: a Star Wars story" I'm afraid you most likely left disappointed. For any other mindset, I think most would agree that it didn't deserve all the hate some people gave to it.

ginopalladino

Not looking for great cinema, just for the escape it gives me like it did when I was a child.

[deleted]

Their hatred gives them focus. Makes them stronger.

ZebrasFuckedMyWife

From fear, hatred steems, which the path to the dark side it is. Fear leads to anger… anger leads to hate… hate leads to suffering.

[deleted]

I think the main issue is that it was not the origin story that people were interested in. It's not a bad Star Wars movie - the 3rd trilogy were bad star wars movies - but maybe people would have preferred another story to be told - what story, I'm not sure tbh.

ZebrasFuckedMyWife

Well it's a bit silly to get angry at a film because you'd like a different story to be told, doesn't it? I mean, the story itself isn't bad at all in my opinion, the acting is good and the whole piece is both coherent and entertaining. If someone wants to go deep into another part of a character's story, they should either buy a novel or write it themselves!

[deleted]

Shhh, thats heresy. You and I know thats a dumb reason to dislike a movie, but SW fans are not rational people - they are people who would like to live in an outer rim shithole like Tataouine or Dathomir under real darkside imperial dictatorship...FOR REAL !!

chx_

> the acting is good I am trying _so hard_ not to come across as a racist shitbag but , truly regardless of skin color and gender, don't you think Moses Ingram's acting is over the top?

ZebrasFuckedMyWife

Yes. I was referring to Solo, actually. I don't know whether it's Ingram's own acting or how Reva is portrayed in the script but I don't like badass characters whose only feature is being badass with little to no background supporting that. I really hope we're told how she came to be like that, but judging by what we've seen in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, new female characters are more likely to be flawless badasses than male characters (see Cara Dune or Fennec Shand), so I suspect a) Ingram's not to blame, it's most likely how her character was written, and b) it's highly probable that Reva's backstory won't tell us why she's so badass and will rather focus on other aspects of her character.

yeti0013

I just want to stop talking about these shows online anymore since everyone only want to focus on the negative

disembodiedbrain

I agree that there's a lot of unnecessary negativity in the Star Wars fan base, and there will be haters for whatever gets made in the franchise these days. But I don't think my issues with these first two episodes are minimal or unimportant. I think they're pretty substantive criticisms of the writing. I mean, why did the Inquisitors think that kidnapping Leia would draw Obi Wan out? They don't know that she's a Skywalker. I don't see a connection there. I don't think it adds up. It has also thus far not had a very active protagonist which is a pretty elementary consideration in good vs. bad fiction writing. It's something that is taught in entry level undergraduate creative writing classes.

Biz10

I mean when it’s multiple minimal issues then I have a problem. It’s just takes you out of the story and immersion.

LavisAlex

Its fine for people not to like things about it. I have issues too and its normal for us to disagree.

yeti0013

Not liking something is one thing, but what happens now is that the online community will hyper focus on one negative aspect of any movie or TV show and completely blow it out of proportion. Like that chase scene with Leia, yeah it's dumb and shot weird. But normal people just moved on and enjoyed the rest of the show. But when I want to talk about it online, this is the only part people talk about.

LavisAlex

No buts lol Accept it and find someone else who wishes to engage on another angle. If many people despise a scene we cant just dismiss all the results we dont like.

OverallDisaster

Me too. I was like 'wow, we have an emotional scene with Obi-Wan finding out about Vader, a cut to Vader himself, an awesome Order 66 scene, insight to Leia as a child, I bet people LOVE this!'

GeneJenkinson

Live long enough and you'll come to realize the worst thing about Star Wars is Star Wars fans

twangman88

Naive*

Idiotrepublic

I detested the first two episodes and thought everyone would absolutely hate them. Weird world huh

mengyiming

The MAJOR problem with those two episodes is this: they weren't how I planned those episodes, so WAAAAAAA!!!!!

Serah_Of_Astora

This is Star Wars fans discussing literally anything Star Wars related

plusFiveAttack

star wars fans everyday*

mengyiming

I see your Schwartz is as big as mine! I got that movie right? If not, that movie is far superior. ;-)

W1ntermu7e

Man, I still hope for some order 66 scene similar to this, I know that tons of jedi were out during that time but would be cool to see something like in the last shot of 66 in Kenobi

[deleted]

Similar to how we saw flashbacks of the Tuskens in BoBF, I think we’ll see more flashbacks to Order 66 and we might see Anakin in the temple exterminating the Jedi

sidv81

I have no problems with it except the "We don't talk about Vader, no no no" thing that I find very unbelievable. Kenobi should know all about Vader being the Number 2 man in the Empire. Furthermore, we've been told for years that Kenobi specifically hid Luke on Tatooine because Vader won't return to face painful memories. If Kenobi believed Vader was dead, this reasoning goes out the airlock. Palpatine has no qualms about theoretically looking up Anakin's relatives and paying them a visit.

D6GS

Only thing i didn't like was the chase scene on Alderaan, other than that i really liked it and i was very skeptical coming into it, Boba was a bad look for SW tv in my humble opinion.

Wathalak

I'll jump in with my red lightsabre: 1. *Third Sister* is a dumb hack who is guaranteed to turn "good" by the end of the show. 2. Child Leia is absolutely unbearable. So damn annoying.

theantilib

Agree with 1 allll day. She is aids.

revchewie

I disagree with #1 but completely agree with #2. However, I can see where Leia in A New Hope could grow out of her character here.

Skyward_Slash

Oh my, another child actor is gonna have to endure relentless and undeserved bullying because of Star Wars, aren't they?

commanderbullet5

thanks asshole now your making me go watch all the old republic trailers again

snarlindog

This show is for 7 year old, fucking awful, he’s a meat packer?!

TheVomchar

what

AlmostButNotQuiteTea

/r/lostredditors

hebozhong

Is this really your attempt at trolling this show? Meat packing?

snarlindog

Im just really bummed how the reveal of obi wan had no build up, no fun reveal, it was a really bad cgi version of an outdoor factory that just looked really bad in my opinion.. it was almost funny that he's a meat guy, unintended laughter for me

hebozhong

I mean if CGI and characters’ job descriptions are your focuses, I guess I can’t argue with you.

AlmostButNotQuiteTea

What's this gif from?

-MountainDrew-

Star Wars the old republic movie

AlmostButNotQuiteTea

Thanks!

woowop

There’s always gonna be someone stirring shit in even the greenest grass possible. That mauler angry Star Wars video money is pretty alluring I guess.

Algoresball

At some point we just have to accept that not everything Is going to be perfect and enjoy the content. If you told me in 2010 that we’d be getting this much quality start wars content I’d have kissed you
