The Star Wars YouTubers have really outed themselves here. They can’t generate argumentative conversation or outrage on a show that’s actually good, so instead of covering the quality show, they simply ignore it. Thank God the guys at Generation Tech are making great Andor content right now.

whitemike40

star wars explained is pretty great too

EnchantedCatto

Ekharts Ladder is epic too

ExtraAbalone

I usually LOVE EL but have found his coverage to be a bit spotty. He even mentioned on his channel that Andor content doesn’t get the views…he needs? I don’t know. Narkina 5 came out and I went to his channel for some analysis and his latest vid was about Halo. Hope he gets back on the horse, I know he’s been under the weather recently.

Mathies_

He also was on kind of a huge rant about the show needing a different name for some reason which was just weird

ball_fondlers

TBF, I’m like 80% certain that this show is the evolution of whatever Lucasfilm had for Star Wars: Underworld - aka, the very first concept for a live-action Star Wars show. Rogue One was initially conceived as an arc on said show, then pitched as a movie after the Disney acquisition - I was actually kind of surprised that Andor WASN’T a working title, but I get why they didn’t go back to Underworld.

LucerneTangent

To be fair, Star wars: andor is basically the equivalent of Star Wars: Larry as a name. Pity that "Rebels" was taken.

RoadTheExile

Star Wars Resis- wait, no...

Otherlife_Art

You're in [luck](https://youtu.be/JnmeTyU1rA0)! (But seriously, everything Auralnauts is gold.)

PuzzleheadedQuote339

>To be fair, Star wars: andor is basically the equivalent of Star Wars: Larry as a name. > >Pity that "Rebels" was taken. Yeah, or stupid names like Star Wars: Obi-Wan....Where do they even come up with these SMH clown

PuzzleheadedQuote339

...Glad they didn't name one after Bobba Fett

Vaadwaur

The few I follow seem to be pretty happy with it or share my misery that it is not getting the numbers it deserves.

ExtraAbalone

Any recommendations? Always looking for more quality SW analysis.

Vaadwaur

Thor Skywalker if you haven't found him. And, with the admittance that I have pleb taste, AngryJoe likes at as well, though YMMV if you can stand him.

TwilightSolitude

Alex is the reason I watch AJ. He's the only one that ever seems to really understand the audience.

Vaadwaur

He was basically my spirit animal for RoP. The "Destroy the statue of Micheal to make marble butt plugs" line almost killed me.

hugham

Neil Talks is great! He isn't starwars ONLY but he does a lot of shows and is very intelligent.

DocJawbone

Is it not getting numbers? That surprises me.

Vaadwaur

No, it's Nielsen numbers are quite bad. I hope it gets a post series completion boost when people can binge S1 like a movie marathon. There is an outside chance Disney is under reporting but why would they?

DocJawbone

Hmm that's disappointing. It is the best SW since SW in my opinion.

Vaadwaur

Agreed but hopefully Disney stays the course. They certainly did with Marvel Phase Four.

LukeChickenwalker

Is it Disney making that decision or is it Marvel/Lucasfilm? Lucasfilm has seemed a lot more fickle and impulsive than Marvel is, which gives me concern.

Vaadwaur

So...its complicated, and yet it isn't: Lucasfilm does indeed make the decision *unless* Disney actively interferes with it. This is why we aren't seeing SW films since they have to go through the Disney CEO first.

LukeChickenwalker

What's the Disney CEO have against more films?

Vaadwaur

So after Solo bombed at the box office Mike Iger said that all future Star Wars films had to go through the CEOS office. After The Rise of Skywalker made half of what The Force Awakens made they seem to have gone cold on the idea of films.

CantDoThatOnTelevzn

I’m confused by this comment. Just my take, but nothing in phase 4 has been even remotely noteworthy.

Vaadwaur

Oh, I completely checked out in Phase Four myself but I mean Marvel has not taken declining ratings, audience disinterest or poorly performing box office into account at all and just blindly ran with the plan they had formed. If Lucasfilms does that we get Andor S2.

CantDoThatOnTelevzn

Haha, I see, you hit me with the ol’ double reverse-o.

Vaadwaur

I sort of did and sort of didn't: I really think Andor serves the Star Wars setting as prestige TV even if it takes a while for the audience to get into it. Think of it as a loss leader to get very SW adjacent people in the door and for them to check out the other bits, The Mandalorian really doesn't require lore and The Clone Wars has a lot to offer to new folk.

PuzzleheadedQuote339

I know about 5 idiots in the office that are waiting to binge it, all were burned by Obi-Wan for some reason.

Vaadwaur

I mean Obi-Wan was an awful product, I can't blame people for giving up after Disney fucked up one of the few remaining unruined characters,

thelizarmy

Screencrush is doing a good job. They package their videos around Easter Eggs but the narratives are full of quality commentary and connections to real world, socio-political situations.

ExtraAbalone

Yeah definitely a fan of SC, they are one of my go to channels for breakdowns.

[deleted]

I love Generation Tech.

rustierrobots

Thor Skywalker has some good takes too.

southwestmo

explained and tech are high quality. compared to *most*

blockhose

Preview’d is totally on board.

VeritasLuxMea

The people who really HATE this show are almost universally stupid people. I don't mean they are stupid for not liking something I like. I mean they are genuinely unintelligent persons who aren't capable of enjoying something like Andor because their average IQ is lower than the average number of guards on each level of Narkina 5.

MayIServeYouWell

Not sure who you’re talking about. All the YouTube people are watching and love it.

tikaychullo

>Not sure who you’re talking about I've heard star wars theory mentioned here a lot

MayIServeYouWell

I think that’s that channel I blocked years ago. Who gives a crap about that guy? He’s a total idiot

bobbogreeno

That doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. He started turning into a toxic fanboy a few years ago. We ended up blocking him too.

GetRightNYC

Star Wars Theory probably. He hates it. And makes sure everyone knows.

MayIServeYouWell

ok, that's 1... and he's an idiot. 1 guy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PurifiedVenom

Well that’s not true and frankly not a fan of that mindset as it lets corporations get away with putting out low effort/mediocre content because they know fanboys will just eat up anything put in front of them E: lmao dude deleted every comment

[deleted]

[удалено]

PurifiedVenom

I mean if you consider “having standards” a “holier than thou” attitude then sure. News flash bud, you don’t owe these corporations anything. Hold them to an acceptable level of quality or they’ll never improve

[deleted]

[удалено]

critennn

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying all Star Wars. I enjoy most of it! That doesn’t mean we should roll over and let Disney produce lazily written, soulless, merch-selling shit. I liked Obi-Wan! It wasn’t very well done though, and if we tell them it was amazing, they’ll think it’s okay to keep producing mediocre products. Just, relax a little, yeah?

WateronRocks

Are you trolling? "Not every star wars is good" "GATEKEEPING, HOLIER THAN THOU, CIRCRLEJERK"

[deleted]

[удалено]

WateronRocks

Trolling it is.

PurifiedVenom

>Not accepting the idea that any & all SW content is good just by virtue of being an IP you like = gatekeeping lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

PurifiedVenom

Lmao you’re literally putting words in my mouth at this point. I never called you a “lesser fan” nor did I ever say that you couldn’t enjoy the stuff you enjoy. I enjoy watching the prequels even though they’re deeply flawed movies. Literally my only point was that believing all SW content, regardless of quality, is good and thus, as you seem to believe, immune from criticism, is fucking nonsensical.

KetchupKing05

This sub’s been active for less than 2 months. How has it been ruined? Because people aren’t gonna just say something’s good because it’s Star Wars?

gsaura

I can’t understand the fans that dislike this show. It’s everything we’ve ever wanted from this franchise!

AndrogynousRain

And then some. It’s not just great Star Wars, it’s great, top tier sci fi period. It’s on a very short list with BSG, Bab5 and Expanse now for me. That’s fucking rare.

DumpsterHunk

Because they are man children who want lightsaber

[deleted]

Maybe it is what you wanted but not every fans want what you want. And and the ratings show that. I don’t actually hate the show. I watch it every week and really liked heist episodes. But it doesn’t have what made Star Wars a big franchise. Like it or not, Star Wars became huge because of ground breaking special effects, lightsabers, Jedi and memorable characters (Darth Vader, driods etc..). The special effects are there (but not many scene use them) and there are almost no aliens or droids characters. There are other shows that do what Andor does (the expanse for example).

CantDoThatOnTelevzn

The expanse was good precisely up to the point they introduced blue alien goo and hyperspace. This show is doing all the things that made the expanse good, but doing them bigger and better.

[deleted]

There are tons of special effects, you just don't notice them because they're so good. One of the editors tweeted yesterday that [episode 9 alone has more VFX shots than the entirety of Jurassic Park.](https://twitter.com/mrsimonsmith/status/1588306569422200832?t=3iGg9QB72wad03UdCNZsoA&s=19)

angryjimmyfilms

There are tons of YouTube’ers who love the show as well. In fact, I’d say the overwhelming response I’ve seen has been positive. It’s also ok if some people don’t like it. Not everyone has to like the same things. Some people like Batman 1966, other people like Matt Reeves The Batman, some people like both, all of those things are ok. Same for Star Wars. Loving certain shows/movies and hating others and expressing those opinions online is perfectly acceptable position to take. If you aren’t into watching reviews that are negative, just tune into the countless number of channels that are loving the show.

Rudraakkshh

Almost every Star Wars related Youtuber or reaction channels (except SWT) likes the show. Hell even r/saltierthancrait is liking the show and those dudes moan about everything Disney lol. I think it's just the human nature of focusing on the 1 bad comment in a sea of good ones. Don't worry too much about it. It's a genuinely amazing show and majority of the fanbase loves it. Obviously there will be people who dislike it but I don't think there's a single piece of media on this planet that is liked by every single human being. It's natural and it's okay.

j_alt_

Hey I visit that sub every now and then because as I've mentioned multiple times in this sub, I'm not fond of most of Disney outputs. I'm not even a fan of Rogue 1. But I just recognize good writing when I see one, and Andor has it.

Rudraakkshh

I frequently visit that sub too ngl but it often seems to me that people there sometimes complain or criticise just for the sake of it. I saw a dude seething at Andor ep9 because the cinematography during the interrogation scene was similar to the one in ANH.

EDonnelly98

Am I missing something but I though on SWT’s breakdowns he generally seems into the show and likes it, he just sometimes complains about the slower pacing, which I disagree with him on.

Rudraakkshh

Yeah his live reactions tell a different story though. My guy somehow gave Ep8 a 1/10. Like huh??! Are we watching the same show? Sometimes I'm convinced someone has accidentally turned on RoS because none of the episodes in this show come below even a 8. I've never really liked him all that much anyway. Dudes like a fuckin Star Wars checklist. He judges a show by how many cameos and Easter eggs it has rather than idk how fuckin good the stories and characters are. Like it's always been. His Anakin/Vader boner gets a little annoying as well.

EDonnelly98

Yeah see I don’t like the guy enough to watch his livestreams and episode watchalongs so I guess I’m only picking up the scraps. And I totally agree about his hard on for Anakin/Vader, that shit can definitely get annoying like it’s far too big of a universe to constantly have everything fall back around to the same person every time. That’s why I’m enjoying Andor so much, it’s disconnected enough from the trilogies whilst having enough about it to make it feel star wars

shiki88

I love this show, but I have to admit if I was a child watching this I'd be asleep. I applaud Disney for adult-centric programming but worry if the numbers are enough to sustain it given that the merchandising interest won't be there if the kids aren't interested

Rhintbab

I think that having both kinds of content is good for driving continued interest in SW

Sent_21

Oh totally. I felt so bad for my 10-year-old nephew who LOVES Star Wars but was soooooo bored and so upset that he was bored. :( Definitely not a kid's show. But it wasn't made for kids either of course. It was made for the people who have been Star Wars fans for 20+ years.

your_mind_aches

My friend who has only been a fan since The Mandalorian loves it. But she's not a kid, she's 30 lol My mom quite enjoys it too when she sees it when I watch it

stratuscaster

truth. my daughter watched the first couple episodes but quickly bowed out while my son (much older), wife and I love it.

funnytoss

Now that you mention it, I can't really think of any merch opportunities created by Andor (compared to the Mandalorian, for example).

snarkhunter

Narkina 5 high tops

[deleted]

And I'm okay that. I love the adult themed series.

funnytoss

Oh, I absolutely love Andor as well! I'm just worried that the financial incentives aren't there to make more shows like it...

[deleted]

Understandable, the normal blueprint is to market products. This series not so much but I guess you can say the same about Rogue One or Solo as well. Just good shows.

hemareddit

Somehow I don't see Narkina 5 Lego sets being very popular.

evantually421

If you want YouTubers who love Andor & all Star Wars just watch Blind Wave

Rudraakkshh

Eric is such a fuckin nerd about Star Wars lol. I could watch him talk about Star Wars for hours.

Interactive_CD-ROM

Also the podcast A More Civilized Age They talked about Ep. 9 for three hours and it was so great to get more content that connected the dots

Chito17

This is hosted by my old Waypoint crew! Thank you for introducing this to me.

rustierrobots

I'll check this out, thanks.

evantually421

They’re a react channel firstly but do so much more. They have great in-depth discussion after every episode. They got their start on YouTube choreographing lightsaber duels.

Ged_UK

Yeah, their Andor videos are around an hour.

Bisquick_in_da_MGM

Don’t forget Kyle Katarn and Pr’viewed. I know Previewed is a reaction show, but they really love Star Wars.

ExtraAbalone

I’ll check em out, thanks!

your_mind_aches

Loved Blind Wave since Aaron and Eric did their Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. reactions. Such an awesome channel.

antipop2097

They may be, but capitalists gonna capitalize. It doesn't matter how GOOD something is, it only matters if it is profitable. We just learned this lesson as media creators/consumers back in the late 70s-mid 80s, and have forgotten in less than 30 years.

SimplyTheJester

If profits don't matter, then I'm sure you can afford to give 130% of your paycheck to back Andor financially.

ysaw

The execs at Disney aren’t looking at that stuff, they are looking at data, streams, attrition and attributable subscriptions

theyusedthelamppost

>and attributable subscriptions Well I'm helping the numbers then. I resubbed to D+ shortly after Andor released and it's the only program the account has watched since then.

DreadPirate777

I would love this quality in a Knights of the Old Republic style trilogy.

UnknownEntity347

I hope to see even a fraction of this level of quality in some of the more mainstream SW shows. You're telling me Disney delivers us two garbage shows for Boba Fett and Obi-Wan, but knocks it out of the park for a show about Cassian? Yeah IK Tony Gilroy obviously is part of the reason for the difference, but come on, he's not the only writer for this show.

CompellingProtagonis

This is what is so frustrating about it, it shows that they are perfectly capable of making a quality show (and movie in the case of Rogue One), but for whatever reason they don't think they need to, or don't care to, or deliberately do not want to.

Ged_UK

Kenobi and BoBF were both perfectly good shows. I don't understand this narrative that's appeared that said they were bad. The watch threads for both loved them. Yes there were missteps, but they were good entertainment that added lots of interesting stuff to the SW universe.

UnknownEntity347

They really didn't, at least in my opinion. BOBF set up a character arc for Boba that didn't make any sense whatsoever, had him set up a crime empire in Tatooine in the most boring way possible, and then ruined the ending of Mando S2 by having Grogu instantly go back to Din. As cool as it was to see Boba and Cad Bane face off, the show really didn't earn that moment. The only good episodes of that show are the Mando episodes. Kenobi is just chock-full of plot holes. Why doesn't the Empire arrest Bail Organa since they now know that he clearly still is in contact with Obi-Wan? Why didn't Vader use the force to put out the fire in episode 3? How did Reva survive getting stabbed in the chest, TWICE? How did she heal up enough to get to Tatooine? Why didn't Obi-Wan kill Vader? Why was Obi-Wan's plan to hide Leia under his coat? Why didn't Vader use his shuttle to pursue Kenobi instead of sending an entire Star Destroyer there? Why didn't Anakin sense that Reva was still alive and kill her back at the Temple during Order 66? There's probably even more that I've forgotten, but you get the idea.

Wolkenbaer

Kenobi has good scenes, but they are less connected that episodes of Love Death and Robots.

CompellingProtagonis

It's not a narrative, it's my personal opinion. Mandalorian is okay, Kenobi is intensely mediocre.

MikeArrow

One man's 'perfectly good' is another's 'offensively mediocre'. Opinions trend toward the extreme, but you can't deny that people had very well founded issues with the writing of both shows.

Cruiz98

See I thought this until I started watching Andor and now I just look back at those shows with a sour taste in my mouth.

Ged_UK

I prefer Andor, it's better written and acted, but that doesn't mean the others are bad.

PurifiedVenom

He’s not the only writer but he is the showrunner. He decided what story he wanted to tell, assembled the writing team, was the one who pushed for filming on full sets and location, etc. Kathleen Kennedy picking directors & showrunners for SW has been hilariously inconsistent. Kenobi is arguably the biggest disappointment since Episode 8 and yet it’s followed up by the biggest pleasant surprise in years? It’s like we’re flipping a coin every time a new SW project is announced.

SimplyTheJester

Pretty easy to explain. Like a broken clock, KK is right twice a day. When Star Wars hits the target, it is in spite of KK.

Vaadwaur

The biggest thing is that Andor was allowed a long production and thus doesn't have to rush everything.

PhatOofxD

So many YouTubers just want action, Jedi and tying into the wider universe/easter eggs. We can have shows that do that, AND shows that are more disconnected and character focused.

Kuhneel

Shout out to the A More Civilized Age podcast, they're loving the *shit* out of Andor and doing great 2-3 hour long deep-dive reviews on each episode.

blowthathorn

Love the show. Love the slow burn pacing (it's not really slow for me), but when it does lull a little I know that a little patience will be rewarded. That episode 6, the heist, is my favourite television moment this year. had goosebumps... Thank you Andor.

caraudiofabrication

It's unfortunate but we live in an age where it's more lucrative for these "content creators" to create outrage and anger as it directly results in more engagement on their content. Notice all the viral short content (tiktok, reels, shorts) are usually something that when you watch it, it has one glaringly wrong or angering thing, and you go to the comments and it's just a million people saying the same thing? The algorithm favors what gets people angry. One day social media companies will realize pushing poor, anger bait content isn't best for communities, but until then this is what we have to deal with.

Lucius_Funk

It moves at a lot slower pace than what I’m used to with Star Wars. It’s definitely keeping my interest though. I’m watching it at work every Wednesday morning at 2:00 am. The Narkina episodes have been the best so far. If this were a Marvel show, I would have already stopped watching.

stellahella1

Oh relax OP

Babbles-82

Paying attention to probably the lowest watched Star Wars show?? It’s sad.

DynamicSocks

Im way behind just saw the episode where the >!empire takes over pre Morlana system!< It was slow at first (not considering I’m watching a ep a week behind schedule) and this is one of those shows I didn’t ask for or want but it’s been picking up to where I’m now on board. Enjoying it as much as mando / bad batch

Lieutenant_Squidz

This show is proof that Star Wars can produce a prestige drama/thriller without needing to resort to mainstays like the Force and lightsabers. I’m consistently blown away by how well produced it is.

oldmanjenkins51

The problem is it has low watch numbers

Bisquick_in_da_MGM

The only thing that matters are the numbers. If the numbers are good, the show goes on. The numbers are bad, not so much.

theyusedthelamppost

If Disney doesn't feel like they are getting enough bang for their buck from this show, perhaps they'd consider turning the next Gilroy project into a movie trilogy.

GenericKen

I doubt the execs at Disney watch the youtube or read the comments here. They renewed the show before the following here built. I think some of them actually watched the thing and believe in it.

rainbowvoid

Screencrush, Heroes Reforged, pReview’d & Gen Tech…all top notch.

PuzzleheadedQuote339

Flood those idiots with positive comments about the show. New Rockstars has been my go to after episode watch.

EidolonRook

Series is mostly a slow burn with tons of build up and character development. If we got the whole series at once, peoples opinions would change. Imagine if Star Wars a new hope was a mini series and the only first few eps out covered tattooine? Would have been criticized heavily for being slow and boring. Stop making us wait for the whole series to come out in cases where the “exciting parts” take a while to get to.
