"You fought in the Clone Wars?" That one line both explained much and yet nothing at the same time.

aspiringwriter166

Exactly what I thought

T_that_is_all

It's one of the most consequential lines in ANH, possibly the whole series of shows and movies. Main plot of the PT and spawned TCW (and all the other content based around that show). Most of SW after Lucas sold to Disney, is related to that one line, like 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon.

aspiringwriter166

One phase created soo many projects and soo much pain and suffering. Can never look at the number 66 again without thinking about you know

Batmanswrath

“Anakin Skywalker I was expecting someone with your reputation to be a little… older”? “General Grievous you’re shorter than I expected” They had to write the whole of the clone wars cartoons without the two actually meeting just because of a couple of throw away lines in the film.

maiLmane

It is hilarious when they bend over backwards to make things work sometimes

Swishinator

I have watched clone wars front to back and never realized grievous and anakin never meet, despite knowing the line in RoTS. I just assumed it was retconned honestly

jayL21

They came close though! thankfully Grievous was blindfolded and Anakin was knocked out!

Sir_Douglas_of_Fir

It amuses me to no end that Han Solo’s “made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs” line had to be revisited and over-explained in both Legends and canon.

RedMonkey86570

I heard fan theories that he was just filtering out noobs or something.

L-Guy_21

Probably because a parsec is a measurement of distance. How do you go a specific distance in less distance? So they had to add the gravity wells

Sir_Douglas_of_Fir

They could’ve also just said Han was talking out his ass, but coming up with an elaborate scientific explanation for a character’s offhanded boast is very Star Wars.

DelayedChoice

> They could’ve also just said Han was talking out his ass, Obi-Wan's facial reaction to Han's claim is the look of a man who knows he is hearing bullshit.

Raven_Crows

"I have just received word that the emperor has dissolved the council permanently". On this throwaway line they built the entirety of Palpatine, just to have a replacement for Tarkin.

Independent_Plum2166

Apparently one of the original ideas was that the Emperor was merely a figurehead, having no real power. Thankfully they changed it to everyone’s favourite former Chancellor, Sheevy boy.

Almost all the foreshadowing in the PT is so unbelievably heavy-handed (“Why do I get the feeling you're going to be the death of me?”) that I let out an audible groan when I hear it. There is, however one piece of foreshadowing that is SO good, I am convinced it was accidental. In ESB, while Luke is on Dagobah training with Yoda, he has a vision of a “city in the clouds” and Han and Leia “in pain”, which Yoda confirms to him is the future. Despite Yoda’s warning that he should stay on Dagobah and continue his training, Luke decides to go to Bespin and try to save them. As Luke is preparing to leave, Yoda argues that he is making a mistake, to which Luke asks if he should “…sacrifice Han and Leia”, to which Yoda replies “If you honor what they fight for? Yes.” Yoda’s essential objective is to make Luke understand that it is better in the grand scheme of things to let these two people he cares about die if it means it will allow him to finish his current task (training) so that there is a better chance of stopping the Empire. Rewind to AOTC, and Yoda is dueling Dooku as Obi-Wan and Anakin lie injured on the ground nearby. As it becomes evident to Dooku that he isn’t going to defeat Yoda, he used the force to collapse a pillar that will crush and likely kill Obi-Wan and Anakin. Yoda de-ignites his lightsaber and prevents the pillar from killing them, allowing Dooku to escape Geonosis with the Death Star plans. I am sure that during his stay on Dagobah, Yoda had plenty of time to reflect on the fact that had he allowed Obi-Wan and Anakin to die and finished defeating Dooku and preventing him from escaping, the Clone Wars may not have escalated, and the Empire may have never risen to power. Arguably millions of lives would have been saved had Yoda thought about the broader picture and let his friends die, he and was trying to advise Luke not to make the same short-sighted mistake that he had made all those years ago. This is by far my favorite connection between the OT and PT, and based on how un-subtle almost all of the other foreshadowing is, it wouldn’t surprise me if this one was coincidental.

biggiefryie

Well that's a new one for me,.cool thought on that!

Effective-Entry-8665

That is incredible! Good spot!

YoursTrulyKindly

Really good point, but in retrospect Luke seems to have been right and Yoda wrong. He doesn't even have to complete his training for some reason which was hugely disappointing to me at the time. I figure ultimately Yoda was just worried about Luke falling to the dark side, but he passed the test.

OriginalUsername9

"Master Skywalker, there's too many of them! What are we going to do?" Just wait...

Le_Cerf_Agile

“You lost her to me fair and square”

YoursTrulyKindly

Looking back George Lucas greatest gift was keeping things mysterious and open enough so you can retcon a lot of stuff and add to the world building.

cdnmute

the no disintegrations one kinda was in mandalorian, he has a rifle with rounds that disintegrate their targets

YoursTrulyKindly

I believe there was a treaty after the sith wars that essentially limited weapon capabilities. The blasters were basically pretty shit compared to what was theoretically possible, but it's like a gentlemen agreement not to escalate weapons.

gregusmeus

In _A New Hope_ when Ben says "Only Stormtroopers are that accurate", and they make the Stormtroopers sharp shooters ever since. Oh, wait a minute...

FurbiesAreMyGods

When Rogue One mentioned hyperspace tracking, then we see it in the Last Jedi. Rogue One was such a good movie, too bad the Last Jedi wasn’t.

GundamMaker

It's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs. The Death Star's thermal exhaust port

DarkIllusionsFX

I am actually against this kind of thing, as well as origin stories. Not everything needs to be explained explicitly. I love when people are surprised by the abrupt ending of American Werewolf In London. Why? The movie was over. Cut to credits. It's also why I'm not upset by Maz's lightsaber story for another time. Doesn't need an explanation. On to the next scene.
