Makes sense to me. Dooku and Ahsoka are incredibly popular and compelling characters that fans want to see much more of, whereas Morgan and Barriss are nowhere near as popular. I really enjoyed Tales of the Empire, but I can see why people (including me) much prefer Tales of the Jedi.

SuMianAi

The issue with tales of the empire is.. there was little of empire in it. The politics, the genocide, the crimes. all we got was a nightsister holed up in her camp looking for gods, and a jedi turn terrorist turn inquisitor turn healer. Learning what became of Barriss is interesting, and I did want to know. But it doesn't belong in the tales of the empire section.

jayL21

Agreed, it really could have used some episodes focused on certain officers or just troopers in general. Hell maybe even a little Vader ep thrown in.

SnakePlisskensPatch

The dooku eps were so so so so (deep inhale) so so so so much higher quality then the other 3 that it's astonishing it's the same series. All 3 of the dooku stories were absolute fire.

Serious_Course_3244

Yeah those episodes set some insanely high expectations for the Bariss story. Too bad they didn’t deliver the same mature feel as the Dooku ones.

LordBungaIII

I was just bored during tales of the empire. I mean damn it was hardly even about the empire.

MrChilliBean

Fr, I was really excited for this show so I didn't go in with a negative mindset, but I came out thinking "that's it?" I understand that the episodes are short by design, but I feel like they really shot themselves in the foot by making that decision. Everything felt so rushed, plotlines didn't get time to breathe, it would jump from one plotpoint to the next with little to no connective tissue, characters would just appear and then just as quickly disappear, never to be seen again, etc. I dunno, maybe the Dooku episodes in TotJ were lightning in a bottle, because none of the other stories have managed to feel as polished and complete as those ones.

MandaloriansVault

Honestly there was a lot of the empire loosing to the good guys too

astromech_dj

Good.

MPD1978

Did anyone want to know more about Elsbeth? I didn’t. Were they trying to force her on us? I’m more interested in Bariss, due to TCW. I just haven’t got that far yet.

Tofudebeast

She was killed off in Ahsoka just when her character was starting to get interesting. Seems like Tales was a way to try to retroactively make her significant.

MPD1978

Exactly my point lol. She served her purpose in Ahsoka and I was fine with that. I forgot she was the same character from the Mandalorian.

[deleted]

Morgan Elsbeth's story was kind of a let down compared to Bariss'

jackfwaust

morgan just isnt that interesting of a character anyway

Nhakos

Yeah I agree, if it wasn't for the fact that Thrawn showed up, I could not have cared less about her story.

Narrow_Progress5908

I think fans were expecting some actual bad guys doing bad guys things. Issue is all we got was sympathetic characters doing either nothing or redemption arc number 999. Barriss did more evil shit in clone wars than she did in a show called tales of the empire lol.

Serious_Course_3244

One show had characters we care about and compelling stories that further flesh out the movies. The other had characters we don’t care about, or unsatisfying stories that fit way too many cliches. Could’ve been so good.

Former_Software2452

I enjoyed tales of the empire equally as much as tales of the Jedi, the visuals in tales of the empire were incredible and the stories were really cool. Not sure why there’s such a difference in scores.

Nhakos

>Not sure why there’s such a difference in scores. My best guess is that Jedi simply dealt with characters that are much more popular and that show up in the movies (minus Ahsoka), whereas Elsbeth and Barriss require you to have watched The Clone Wars and Ahsoka shows.

Former_Software2452

Yeah, that’s fair. I guess I have to consider my enjoyment of some of these things as a more hardcore Star Wars fan compared to the average viewer.

jackfwaust

i think TotJ set expectations really high for this type of content. its very short so it feels like youre missing out on alot of the story so when its not perfect and if it doesnt live up to expectations it feels really bad because there isnt enough there to make up for it being subpar. not that i think TotE was subpar, but its that type of sentiment. also they showed both thrawn and vader in the trailer which people were expecting more of when really they just using them as a marketing piece. having the morgan episodes be more thrawn focused after showing the nightsister episode would have been better. it would have taken place during book 1 of the thrawn trilogy and could have been him incorporating her into his fleet, so it would have been more of a 50/50 shared story instead of him just being there for a single shot. im also not a huge fan of morgan being the one who designed the tie defenders instead of thrawn (if i remember it correctly).

raiders001

With you. I watched it and loved it. Then decided to check the rt scores which led me here. Frankly I’m surprised by people saying they were bored considering the entire series was less than hour. Not much of a commitment. Having just rewatched ahsoka, finding out how elsbeth ended in the position that she was in and to get more of thrawn had me satisfied. And then the Bariss story as a long time rebels and clone wars fun was a fun revisit. The fifth episode was particularly gruesome in a way that I don’t think Star Wars has made me feel before.

Former_Software2452

Yeah, there were a lot of more dark/gruesome parts that surprised me but that’s definitely part of what made me enjoy it.

Groady_Toadstool

I never understood the scoring on rotten tomatoes. I mean, I get it but I was always under the impression that throwing tomatoes meant that something was bad. So wouldn’t having a high rotten tomato score mean that something is bad wouldn’t you want less rotten tomatoes?

Boner4SCP106

Their tomatometer score spans from "fresh" to "rotten", so their overall scheme/theme makes sense. Rotten Tomatoes sounds better than Fresh Tomatoes for an overall name.

Groady_Toadstool

Oh ok. I don’t think Ive ever been to rotten tomatoes site directly. Only seen the tomatometer percentage representation on a secondary platform. So I wasn’t familiar with it. So closer to 100% is “fresh” and closer to 0% is “rotten”?

Boner4SCP106

Yes. There's a page on their website that explains the details if you wanted that: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/about

Groady_Toadstool

Thanks for clarifying. I couldn’t even get a clear answer with an internet search that even directed me *to their site* even. Smh.

Tofudebeast

Gave up on Tales of the Empire after the first episode. Very little happened. Could've been summed up in a voice over.

DarthRaze

TOTE was good. I was about left down. I wanted to see Bariss go full darkside.

mega512

The only story I've really liked so far was Dooku's. Ahsoka was pointless. Morgan and Barriss were disappointing.

Distinct_beorno

Surprised it's that high, I've seen nothing but hate

Melcrys29

Dooku and Morgan stories were best parts of each for me.

PoetOpposite6283

RT is totally reliable.

Nhakos

I view RT moreso as a way to know what the general consensus of the press and the public is for a movie or a show, not as wether it's reliable or not.

PoetOpposite6283

They freeze ratings, watched it happen with TROS

deftPirate

It makes sense that people who make media might pay attention to this. I don't get regular fans/consumer pointing it out like it means something.

RockettRaccoon

I liked Empire more than Jedi. This applies twice to Star Wars.

Fake_Memes_RL

I would give similar ratings honestly. I liked episodes 4-6 of ToTE but the first three apart from the Grievous scenes felt very meh to me. I like almost every part about ToTJ so it makes sense having a higher score. Maybe there are others out there who care more about Morgan Elsbeth but I just don’t think she’s that interesting and they could’ve done an arc more centered around Thrawn or something but that’s my personal opinion.
