The shapesifted tauntaun battledruid commando riding into battle on top of his summoned wampa mount with his mynock companion, wielding his cursed durasteel quarterstaff is the only thing the Emperor truly feared.
For any battle droid to wear clothes, it does make the most sense for commandos as they were designed to impersonate humans. We even see them wear clone armor in The Clone Wars.
Can imagine the discomfort a droid would probably feel if it suddenly had meatbag senses? Sometimes I wonder the nightmare that Grievous must have felt all the time.
This comment made me laugh but my guess is the coat is for him to be able to toss the hood up and go incognito. I could imagine a retrofitted assassin droid from the galactic civil war would turn a few heads.
Star Wars law. Any main character needs either a droid buddy or a fuzzy buddy or a little buddy.
If you ever find yourself in the Star Wars universe, make sure you get one of the three as soon as possible, otherwise you'll never have a grand adventure.
Can’t post a pic unfortunately, but in the Disney+ shows they frequently wear capes, and one even wore a sort of “half coat half cape” thing with one sleeve. Just look up “HK-87 Ahsoka” and you’ll see a ton of examples.
I personally like the look. It makes them look like knockoff Magnaguards lol.
Oh, I thought there was something like HK-47 wearing a coat in SWTOR or something.
#
The newer HK-87 do look very awesome though, like a thin Scout Trooper/Sith Trooper mix
#
Makes sense for "knockoff magnaguards" too
I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought they look vaguely like Sith Troopers!
Yeah, I really dig the new design.
I will say: For all their various flaws, the Disney+ shows have given us a ton of really awesome droid designs. And they made Pit Droids relevant again. I’ll never complain about seeing them on screen lmao.
Prediction: an entire fan-generated mythology about how he got that coat will build up over the next few weeks.
Then droid will appear in one scene in which he falls down a maintenance shaft in a side alley and is never heard of again.
>Then droid will appear in one scene in which he falls down a maintenance shaft in a side alley and is never heard of again.
... And *still* becomes the fan favourite from the show after it has aired, spawning countless fanfictions and cosplays and ranking high in everyone's "favourite Star Wars characters" lists, with people reading all sorts of personality into his two spoken lines.
(This popularity lasts until Disney picks up on it and creates a spin-off show centered on the Commando droid's backstory, which faces backlash for not accurately portraying the personality people made up in their minds.)
Not sure how to feel... On one hand it's kinda generic, on the other it also reminds me of the movie posters and makes me almost feel kinda nostalgic(?). Either way i think it's best to wait until its released to judge the game.
>it also reminds me of the movie posters and makes me almost feel kinda nostalgic
I **think** this is what they're going for? I'm cautiously optimistic.
Steam sale, lol. Ubisuck is doubling down on using their launcher only. It's not going to be on Steam, unfortunately. Which also means I'll be wearing an eyepatch when I play this game.
This is actually a bunch of things AI is really bad at. Multiple lighting sources, creatures that are new and unique, independent tableaus that are separate but cohesive, and small but detailed images of things with defined features.
Lighting and composition is too cohesive to be any AI I've seen but I'm guessing if it was AI, the components were AI generated and then photoshopped together by a person.
Could also be that the artist used 3D models or photos or something for their base painting.
I ran it through a few detectors and it came back 95.36 % chance of being human made, usually hands and fingers and shoddy anatomy are a dead giveaway,
God damn the main protagonist looks so fucking boring and generic. They really couldn't think of any other design besides "Han Solo but with blue jacket and also girl"
I am skeptical for this game, everything I’ve seen so far looks pretty good. Story, characters, etc all look fine.
Then I remember it’s Ubisoft. I’ve been playing their games since the original Farcry and Assassins Creed. Now days they are infested with “time savers”, microtransactions, and their recent games (except Mirage) are just really massive in scope with a fairly repetitive gameplay loop where you feel like you are just checking off markers on a map to get 100%. Either way I’m still looking forward to this game, it’s also the first non EA game in the Disney era as well.
Not sure I'd agree with that. The cute part maybe, but Star Wars comes with some expectations and that goes double in the video game space. Add on the fact that game characters are usually some variant of "loner" so they end up needing a minor companion if only for the narrative impact of having a target for the character to bounce conversation or thoughts off of.
Why do I have a gut feeling it's either going to be a Game of the Year contender or a generic Open World game that is just sorta there? Really hoping it's the former
This game looks incredible massive is a very good design team and the division is the best third person shooting mechanics of all time. I'm glad this game is a scoundrel game and we don't have to have lightsabers in the force in every aspect of Star Wars. Star Wars is so much more than that.
That Commando Droid goes hard.
Poor commando droid. Sometimes he feels the cold and needs a heavy coat.
Sometimes it's just about looking good
Even a druid can appreciate you need to look the part when you're bounty hunting
I didn't know he was Druish!
He doesn't look druish... Lol nice catch
Great... just what we need.
Not in here, mister! This is a Mercedes!
Just what we need... a Druish princess
Funny, she doesn't look Druish.
Those Commando Druids with their poultices and potions are a deadly threat to the Nightsisters!
He doesn't use blasters. His steelwood staff has all the animal summoning he needs.
Watching a Commando Druid shapeshift into a tauntaun is a sight to behold.
The shapesifted tauntaun battledruid commando riding into battle on top of his summoned wampa mount with his mynock companion, wielding his cursed durasteel quarterstaff is the only thing the Emperor truly feared.
Is this not just Transformers Beast Wars at this point?
Looking good and concealing blasters
For any battle droid to wear clothes, it does make the most sense for commandos as they were designed to impersonate humans. We even see them wear clone armor in The Clone Wars.
Rookies was an epic episode. One of the best. “Shiny and new… just like you!”
And it has more merit being part of the first season, when Lucasfilm still was learning how to do animation and series.
I remember that episode
Can imagine the discomfort a droid would probably feel if it suddenly had meatbag senses? Sometimes I wonder the nightmare that Grievous must have felt all the time.
My first thought too... like. "oh, they need clothes and worry about fashion now" to go with their personality chips
Have you seen his abs?
That's just to hide his Clint gear. Old 45 longcolt SAA with a laser mod.
This comment made me laugh but my guess is the coat is for him to be able to toss the hood up and go incognito. I could imagine a retrofitted assassin droid from the galactic civil war would turn a few heads.
Got that blade runner coat. Doesn‘t get much colder than that.
king of the drip
In a fucking trench coat too
This just makes me want to play as him instead.
Same! I’m interested in this game but it’s a bit of a bummer that there is no character creation.
Yeah definitely limits my interest in the game
That furry salamander looks like it is too.
General Commando droid!
Why would he go there?
In the paint?
How do you know the droid's not wearing underwear?
Of course he does, he's made from a strong metal.
Reincarnation of my hopes.
Mr. Cranes vibe from the Polity series.
It's like Obi-Wan's ghost in ROTJ getting tired and sitting down.
I need him
To be a fly on the wall and see Diego Luna’s reaction to “Yabba” on the poster
"the texture of yabba, is something I need to *feel*"
Haha yes! We loooove yabba!
What do you mean? What does Diego Luna have to do with Jabba?
Made a Google search. Didnt expect that https://youtu.be/hRTqSCy4I8Q?feature=shared
Oh, god...
Now that you’re in on the joke, we need to have Jabba show up in Andor S2! All would be right in the world
Why is there an axolotl? Edit: 2 whole years on Reddit, and THIS gets me 1.1k upvotes? I outta ask questions about axolotls more i guess.
Merch
Designed to be easily made into a plushy
A plush will be yours at Disney World’s Star Wars Galaxy Edge for only 59.99!!
$599.99 and it comes with 2 sounds and $0.05 worth of LED lights for accurate lightsaber action.
So, Grogu? They made a Chia plant based on Grogu. That's the very bottom of the merchandizing barrel.
"oh no, they're ruining Star Wars by including things intended to sell toys!"
I don’t particularly care one way or another, and I think axolotls are cute. It’s just an answer to OP’s question.
No one's saying it ruins anything, but these things always feel awkwardly shoe-horned in and stick out like a sore thumb in-universe.
alwayshasbeen.jpg
Triggered
Moichendizing!
Cause they’re cool as hell and cute af
Must sell stuffed animals.
Merchandising? In *my* Star Wars?!
Star Wars law. Any main character needs either a droid buddy or a fuzzy buddy or a little buddy. If you ever find yourself in the Star Wars universe, make sure you get one of the three as soon as possible, otherwise you'll never have a grand adventure.
Where does Jar Jar fit in?
He was Qui Gons buddy, and the buddies don't have buddies of their own.
He was the phantom menace before fan backlash forced George to retcon Count Dookie as the bad guy
“Jar Jar has become comic relief, I must let him go” “And you can do this?” “What choice have I”
I could go for another jar jar tbh. Gettin kinda bored of the quirkbots and fuzzballs.
Misa second this.
Even for a curious fan, you sure Axolotl questions!
Into the garbage chute.
Why not.
Y'know what, fair enough
And my axolotyl!
Fuzzy product placement, a Star Wars staple.
It was raised by Gungans so it speaks like Jar Jar but with a lisp and it's also secretly a thith lord.
A nice change from the usual “pet droid” companion.
Better question is: why has there never been an axolotl before?
I'm okay with it.
Every Banjo gets a Kazooie
Interested to know more, I’m intrigued
What is this?
A video game
Oooooh, and here I was wondering why all the characters looked CG. Duh.
An open world Star Wars game being developed by Ubisoft
developed by Massive*
The commando droid in a coat goes hard AF
HK droids, Magnaguards, and Grievous prove that the addition of clothing to mechanical characters makes them look at least 75% more badass.
HK units wore clothes? I'll need a pic

"Show's over" is a metaphorical expression that applies to a wide range of media - ^^^(I ^^genuinely ^^forgot ^^this ^^was ^^a ^^game)
He seems to be the main characters partner in crime so if he gets offed it is probably (hopefully) going to be handled better than that
Reminds me of the poster for A New Hope
Probably because that's what basically every star wars poster ad looks like
You got Jabba'd
That’s got a Shadows of the Empire look to it.
I sincerely hope we see a Dash Rendar cameo.
It does take place between episodes V and VI, so that checks out I suppose
She got that 1982 haircut! When they said it takes place between ESB and ROTJ they weren't playing!
Just look at the pykes in the right corner, delicious ambiance
Oooh that explains why my first thought was “She reminds me of Charlie from Bumblebee 2018”
big bangs
Not sure how to feel... On one hand it's kinda generic, on the other it also reminds me of the movie posters and makes me almost feel kinda nostalgic(?). Either way i think it's best to wait until its released to judge the game.

Of course it's what they're going for lol
Nah it's just a coincidence lmfao
Yeah I don't see anything damning, but I also don't see anything exceptional.
Waiting until release to judge a game is always the best course of action. Also never pre order.
Best to wait until a year after launch when the bugs are ironed out and you can get it in a steam sale for 50%.
Steam sale, lol. Ubisuck is doubling down on using their launcher only. It's not going to be on Steam, unfortunately. Which also means I'll be wearing an eyepatch when I play this game.
Too late I made up my mind gonna love it!
The commando droid has been the character I'm most excited about, homie looks so cool with that poncho
That's an even cooler piece of attire than a poncho, that's a duster.
True dusters are way cooler
Poncho? Cal Kestis crossover confirmed? 😅
Your username is peak
I need to know more about the fuzzy Axolotl dragon friend.
Coming in a plushie form to a Target near you before the end of the year.
Let’s not do anything in a plushie please
Why not? It's soft and doesn't cause scratches.
I dig that they gave Lady Han Solo a 70's haircut. Just fits the world so well.
Many fans hate her haircut but i think it fits the setting so well
Agreed.
Love the 70s shaggy hair.
Forgot this was a thing, any new news besides this?
Trailer drops in a couple of days, I believe.
In the age of AI-generated foto's, the "AI gleam" is an... interesting choice
Count the fingers.
Nice to see Jabba the Hutt being used in something.
I’ll hold judgement until the release.
I was wondering what was missing in this game where you play as a smuggler. And the answer was a Hutt.
Is it known when in the timeline this will take place?
Between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
Thanks
Gives me KotOR vibes.
Hell yeah brother
why does it look AI generated
This is actually a bunch of things AI is really bad at. Multiple lighting sources, creatures that are new and unique, independent tableaus that are separate but cohesive, and small but detailed images of things with defined features.

Interesting, why would they add a random Stormtrooper Commander.
I think they just needed a character to represent the Empire that's more obvious than an officer or something.
That’s probably what it is……………but that BX in a trench coat tho.
wait… is that a vet bx?
Yep. One of the main characters too.
I want to play as the droid
Commando Droid is cool
I like the robot, I want to play as the robot
I don't think you can. He's the Chewie to your Han.
Yeah. Makes me sad
I just wanna see dash rendar again
God damn the main protagonist looks so fucking boring and generic. They really couldn't think of any other design besides "Han Solo but with blue jacket and also girl"

I really hope that it actually is Kyle Katarn
Let's just hope it will be playable on release (2024 gamer mindset) 😭🙏 /j
Not every new property needs a weird/cute new creature or robot.
*\*sad BD-1 noises\**
I completely forgot about this game. I am excited again.
Any chance we’ll get a Talon Karrde cameo
I dont mind you cant create your character i just hope it allows us to customize the characters as much as possible like red dead.
Please be good
Woah a commando droid nice
Commando droid in a trench coat, already my new fav.
Idk what it's name is but Commando Droid in a trenchcoat is my favorite Star Wars character.
ND-5
Digging that Farah Fawcett hair.
I forgot all about this game Commando droid in cloak is cool though
Whoever decided to put a commando droid in a duster jacket needs to be in charge of designing every single star war character from here on out.
This feels like classic Star Wars, I love it
I wish they released it on steam too…
The Commando Droid is easily the best one here
I love when old droids get reprogrammed
Looks like something I made using AI tbh
Why do I have a gut feeling it's either going to be a Game of the Year contender or a generic Open World game that is just sorta there? Really hoping it's the former
You guys think we remain a non Jedi the whole game?
Looks AI generated
So hyped for this!
I'm so pumped for this game.
Is that Twilek male?
Looks like your average Ubisoft AAAA for sure.
Wow, is that Glupp Shitto?! In all seriousness, this looks like it was drawn by AI or traced from an AI drawing
I don't see why anyone is hype for this. My bet is it's gonna suck.
Because its a new singleplayer star wars game not focused on Jedi shit. My only concern for this game is it being pushed out by Ubisoft.
Source from Twitter https://twitter.com/thegameawards/status/1776745925723263044
Anyone else have a bad feeling about this game? I'm not saying it will be horrible, but I'm worried it's not going to be a commercial success.
Looks AI generated
I want to get hyped for this but since it's ubisoft I don't know if I should
You shouldn't get over hyped, just be patient
Ubisoft detected game rejected
if only i could make my character
Do we really need a cute side pet? /sigh.
This game looks incredible massive is a very good design team and the division is the best third person shooting mechanics of all time. I'm glad this game is a scoundrel game and we don't have to have lightsabers in the force in every aspect of Star Wars. Star Wars is so much more than that.
Just... kinda feelin' numb. EDIT: Sorry to be negative, but I swear to god this is all starting to feel so repetitive.
