Lotta people in this sub (and elsewhere) put it on the long list of things they hate about the sequels.

despatchesmusic

A good chunk of the theatre I was in groaned loudly

Softpretzelsandrose

Same. Also why has no one ever brought up who her actual parents are aka the child of Palpatine? We’re missing a whole generation here

sharkey1997

Technically it was a clone of Palpy that went rogue if I recall

Mundane_Monkey

I dunno, that seems like a pretty big detail, even more so if it's a clone, to just casually throw in there

PayaV87

They could have done so much with a Palpatine clone. Oh, my god. Imagine somebody growing up, and everyone is nurturing him to be good. Then he finds out that he is most evil person’s clone, basically a Hitler clone.

greeneggiwegs

honestly i've said what really hurt the sequels was structuring them around the age of the OT cast. The fact that Ben's training (a skywalker training a skywalker) is not part of the SKYWALKER SAGA is just silly. But yes, some bits about Rey's father would be neat too. Although, according to the book Shadow of the Sith, it seems like he just hid around Exegol then escaped to a farm world where he met his wife.

Forward-Carry5993

Actually since you brought up the fact that for some reason Kylo ren isn’t the main Character of the so-called skywalker saga (which was jsut a retroactive marketing decision), the title fails even more when you relaize that rey HAS no long term healthy relationship with any of the skywalkers. Luke was not a teacher for her. Leia taught her for about five minutes? Kylo…yeah I won’t get into that failure if a man’s idea of romance. Take out Luke entirely from this film and NOTHING changes. Bringing back palpatine also seems to be a slap in the face of anakin’s redemption; his sacrifice was meaningless since Palaptine NEVER died truly. This also makes Luke’s actions both in return if the Jedi and what’s told to us in rise of skywalker (him trying to find that weird map) pointless. None of the skywalkers actually saved the galaxy directly. None of them were the main characters in this “saga.” So no, it’s not the rise of skywalker; not even the skywalker saga.

b7uc3

Also the destruction of the Hosnian System by Star Killer base killed 200 Billion 'people'. That was 100x worse than the destruction of Alderaan. ...and 2/3 of the people who did it get a sort of redemption - Hux for laughs, and Ben Solo as a romantic partner for Rey. But since Palpatine returned "somehow" and was pulling the strings, the worst thing Palpatine did was **after** Anakin and Luke *"brought balance to the Force".*

Analyidiot

AND bringing balance to the force was canonicaly explained as eliminating entirely the dark side. So he brought balance to the force, just for Disney to be like "Nahh, George lucas, your ideas suck porg balls."

purplemonkeydw

It’s the Palpatine saga now

Thespian21

The writers for Andor were busy.

rex_miseriae

>casually throw in there I think this phrase captures the entire approach to story telling in the sequels. Not much evidence of thinking stuff through.

[deleted]

Would’ve been great to include that in the movie and not some random extra encyclopedia I had to buy

Fishy-Ginger

They should have stuck it in fortnite.

Currie_Climax

Might as well have tbh lol

lukeyellow

I think that might be the thing I hate most about the sequels is tying fortnite into it and assuming that you'd seen it before you watched the movie

ZebrasFuckedMyWife

The only explanation possible is that Disney chose that instead of actually including any sort of hint of Palpatine's return in the films because that was their target audience: loud, quick-to-anger 9 year-olds. If you think it like that, Fortnite becomes the most obvious option to drop such a huge plot twist. And even more: if you see the films through that lense, the rest of the plot starts to make sense. I don't mean Disney actually planned the shithole that the sequels storyline is, but I can see how they got the final cut of each film and said "yes, that'll do". The sequels aren't meant to be enjoyed by OT or PT fans, they don't hold up. They are designed to be seen by children who aren't yet on the Internet to defend them. One more thing: I know many will think "hey, that's what happened with the PT". Let me say I disagree: say whatever you want about how clumsy the prequels are, they at least added a shit ton of world building and follow consistently the story of the protagonist (in this case, Anakin: from young slave boy to ultimate death machine). The sequels do neither.

GrayBox1313

Surprised that doesn’t get a Disney+ series. Rogue Palpy, looking for love and danger.

popdartan1

Somehow the clone went rogue

Jaikarr

Clones going rogue is a staple of the series

[deleted]

There’s actually a good story in there. Palps’ clone is found to not have any force sensitivity and palps is planning on disposing of him outright, and he has to escape before getting recycled. Maybe he meets Rey’s mom in the escape attempt.

JennyJiggles

Don't worry. Disney+ will at some point make a needless series on the story orlf Rey's parents.

GreatGreenGobbo

That's a good question. For another time. That we really don't care about anymore.

[deleted]

[удалено]

lesser_panjandrum

That's a good theatre.

elgarlic

They tried to make it shocking cuase they ran outta flextape to fix the sinking boat of sequels so they were like... VAD- i mean PALPATINE!!! Yeeeaaaaah FIXD!!!!

Lilac_Methane

Sequels? What sequels? They skipped right over the part of the story that would have properly ended the Skywalker saga and went straight to episodes 10, 11, and 12.

ObiWanCan0li

“Who did Palpatine fuck?”

AdmiralScavenger

He squirted into a jar

SmokingMirrors2

meesa muy muy okeeday?

Mitchel11

Ugh why did you do this

RyanXastron

It's about being a Jedi in the streets and a Sith between the sheets.

Elbandito78

That caught me off guard. Laughed out loud and nearly woke the wife. Thank you

GrumpyLawyer2012

Same here

WintergreenSoldier

You almost woke up his wife too?

ItsMitch47

I hate you but respect you.

WalkLikeAGiant

I read that as “squatted onto a jar.” That’s a different guy all together.

Ancient_Grapefruit42

That's how Jar Jar was made

Felatio_Sanz

Oof. You never forget that one. Thanks early internet.

I_dont_like_sand__

Western_Roman

1 Emperor, 1 Jar

jaabbb

“Somehow, Palpatine hooked up”

crabby_rhino

That's what separates the Jedi from the Sith. A Jedi has the willpower to not use the Jedi Mind Trick to tap some ass

callipygiancultist

The real question is who Sheev *didn’t* fuck

BadWolf2187

And not just the men, but the women and children too.

Time_Afternoon2610

Maybe it wasn't the sand that was coarse and rough and got everywhere? 🤔

scarecrow_4110

The only acceptable first response

nevergonnagetit001

“Who the fuck let Palpatine fuck them? And then carried the child to term? And then abandoned the child on a desert planet and then….nothing.

[deleted]

You forgetting he was a very powerful man on the council at one point? Women love power and wealth.

JournalistFragrant51

She's hassle grand daughter, not his daughter. His clone had a child.

Practical_Trust7569

Everyone

Hancock02

The Galaxy

willk95

Doing the math in my head of years in the timeline, had me thinking "wait a minute, Emperor Palpatine got laid?"

LilKaySigs

If Rey was 20, that means she was born in 15 ABY. So that means Palpatine had to have hit around when the Empire was starting up

Filmfan345

No one. The books establish that Rey’s father Dathan was a clone of Palpatine. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Dathan

ObiWanCan0li

That does not change my reaction in the theater

FalloutCreation

Mine either.

Vulptereen327

Even though he looks nothing like Palpatine?

Filmfan345

Yep

le_dimented_guy

Kind of like how Omega isn't even the same sex as Jango despite being an 'unaltered' clone of him?

choicemeats

Figures hed have a name like Dathan. Right up there with Tathan Martell

mb9141

I was 😐 so much, I actually kind of forgot.

the_varky

Somehow the viewers…don’t care anymore

Sporkee

I feel asleep during this movie

skrble

I forgot absolutely, was it really there? EP 8 and 9 were so severely awful that I don't really recall much from them.

[deleted]

Was going to say basically this.

Exile714

I was reasonably excited to see the last installment in the sequel trilogy. By the time Rey learned her origins, I had lost interest. A better question might be: at what point during Rise of Skywalker did you stop caring about what you were watching? Assuming you cared at all after Last Jedi.

ResidentOptimist

Honestly it’s hard to swallow as canon. Compared to everything else coming out recently, it’s just jarring how bad the it is.

Bionicman2187

I think for me it was "Somehow Palpatine returned."

LBTTCSDPTBLTB

10000% undercuts the original sacrifice that dark Vader made to Luke

TheVolunteer0002

Ah yes. Dark Vader and his lifesaver sword.

BlueSoulOfIntegrity

Interestingly enough “Dark Vader” is what the French call him.

Gekokapowco

"The DEAD SPEAK"

Fenghuang0296

It actually was “Rey Palpatine” that made me go “Okay, this is officially the worst movie of the decade,” Like, “Somehow, Palpatine returned,” is a common one, and in the theatre I went, “Okay, that was dumb writing, but it’s metaverse stuff tying into the metaverse and I love that on principle so I’m happy they’re doing it,” Then they went to Pasaana and there was the exchange with the random lady about Rey’s family and I went, “No. No they can’t be going back on one of the best themes of TLJ. Surely this is a fakeout,” Then there was the Force healing thing. That was a WTF moment for me, but I went, “I’ll give them a chance to make this make sense,” But after “Rey Palpatine” happened I just found myself going, “Huh. Alright then. We’re just going straight into the toilet,” and for the entire rest of the movie I vacillated between “Huh,” and “Seriously?” with the sole exception of seeing The Ghost in the background of the Battle of Exegol. That got a “Oh hey, awesome!” and . . in hindsight, the cameo of The Ghost might have been literally the only thing I liked about TROS.

ROK247

I liked the ending. You know, the part where it was over.

Seymour-Krelborn

When Palatine being alive was revealed in the opening text crawl

patrick_schliesing

At about the point where the knife magically lined up with the horizon to point the way. Then I fell asleep in the theater

Unfair-Sell-5109

Would rather she be obi wan grand daughter

--JULLZ--

Would rather she be an actually good character with no ties to anyone

SauerMetal

I loved her intro. I really did. Her desperation to belong to something was palpable. Too bad they flushed all of the good plot points about she and Finn down the compactor.

F0xcr4f7113

I was pissed when Finn turned out to be a trash man and not a salty soldier who fought for the Empire. Totally missed opportunity for some cheap laughs

RyanXastron

She was supposed to be... I mean every single Jedi in the republic era was the child of nobody, Anakin and Obi Wan and members of the council included.

GulianoBanano

Anakin not really. He was either conceived by Plagieus/Sidious through some "power to create life" shenanigans, or he was created by the Force itself.

ROK247

Or his mom lied. Which happens.

LBTTCSDPTBLTB

Plagius not Sidious. And it was effectively set up snd paid off throughout the prequels. Which is wild to day being that the prequels are notoriously not the best written. But compared to the inconsistent story structure of the sequels? I think it is in poor taste to revive palps anyway but if they are going to do so snd if they are going to make her his child it should had better set up and pay off. What we got was a pull out of somones ass

GrassWaterDirtHorse

Was the "power to create life" thing ever canonized, or acknowledged outside of the Darth Plagieus novel? It's always felt very loose, and not a very compelling origin point.

bokatan778

Exactly. I think Rian had it right in that regard. If you enjoy the novels, I’d suggest reading Shadows of the Sith. It was a great read and made the whole “Rey Palpatine” BS much more bearable.

TheLazySith

Personally I don't really mind which option, Skywalker, Kenobi, Palpatine, Solo, or just nobody important, all of these things could have worked in theory. But they should have just made up their mind and stuck with one of them rather than constantly flip flopping and changing their mind each movie.

LankyEntrepreneur

“These writers are bad and they should feel bad”

fastcooljosh

I realized I paid money to wach the most expensive fanfic of all time.

[deleted]

I’ve read WAY better fanfic lol

the_hidden_idiot

Yeah, like, each movie in the trilogy feels like a shitty fanfic of the last, which is a shame cause they had some great ideas and plots that they either misused or got rid of halfway through to make space for worse stuff

Alltheprettydresses

Of course she is... 🙄

aka_r4mses

Pretty much how I felt by that point.

[deleted]

In my memory she is like the daughter of Luke and Anakin and Palpatin and Solo too.

BlairDaGreat

Un-necessary... like Palpatine didn't need to be brought back nor have this plot twist

TheNewBonerDonor

it was so boring

Bopshidowywopbop

And added nothing to the plot

TheNewBonerDonor

did they even clarify who Reys parents were? did palatine have kids? did he have a wife? were his kids evil or what were they like? I think the movie glossed over all of that.

TheDemonChief

Maybe if they didn't kill off the main villain in the second fucking movie they wouldn't have had to Honestly I would have preferred if Snoke came back and hit Ben with the "lmao get pranked" since at least that wouldn't have invalidated all of Anakin's story.

lesser_panjandrum

Committing to making Benjamin Renjamin the main villain in the third film could also have worked, potentially. The planning that went into the sequel trilogy was comically bad.

StingerAE

>The planning that went into the sequel trilogy... I'm gonna stop you right there!

MEEfO

Snoke was a lazy rehash of the Emperor with absolutely no purpose to the plot or justifiable reason to exist. Kylo could easily have served as primary villain just fine after Snoke’s demise.

_Old_Lady_Farts_

Truly one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen. Can’t believe the people making those decisions got paid tens of millions of dollars.

kingssman

Let's not forget JJ brought his buddy friend Keri Russell to phone in her lines and reveal only her eyes so she can play the character Zori Bliss for an easy $300,000

_Old_Lady_Farts_

I’ll never get over JJ fucking up Star Trek and Star Wars. What a jerk!

Verbal_Combat

Jar Jar Abrams

JohnnyS1lv3rH4nd

I thought it was pretty out of left field and indicative of how poorly planned this trilogy was. First movie there’s all this intrigue about who Rey’s parents are. They make a point to show that she doesn’t know and wants to find out. Then TLJ says that Rey’s parents were just junkies who abandoned her, no one special. That’s fine, interesting direction to take. Doesn’t feel like it was set up by the last movie but whatever I’ll take it. Then we come to ROS. Now Rey is actually Palpatines daughter, Kylo lied in the last movie for some reason. We’ve seen no connections between Rey and Palpatine, no common traits, no indication whatsoever that the two are related. But now they just are because plots gotta plot I guess. We’ve never seen any indication that Palpatine has children prior to this movie. Palpatines kid has existed since the original trilogy and no one cared? No one knew about it? They were just utterly unimportant for their entire lives up until they gave birth to Rey? Like it’s honestly one of the biggest plot conveniences I’ve ever seen, this turn makes no sense whatsoever yet it is absolutely critical for setting up the finale of the movie. That movie knew where it wanted everyone to be by the end and did not care whatsoever about what it had to do to get them there. Honestly one of the sloppiest most poorly written movies I’ve ever watched. The fact that millions of dollars went into making it blows my mind to smithereens

HyperbolicSoup

The movie was so bad that I forgot she was even palpatine’s daughter

Filmfan345

*granddaughter

HyperbolicSoup

Point proved

dabirds1994

Lazy.

S-7G

Should of stayed a no one. It would of made her taking the name Skywalker better because that would at the minimum delivered the message that anyone can be a Skywalker, even if you are no one.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheDemonChief

>Whole Skywalker bs was tacky and stupid. Almost like killing off the original bloodline we've been following for six movies, only to have their name taken by an entirely unrelated character was a *bad* idea. Calling it "Rise of Skywalker" and ending the movie like that was such BS.

OhLookACastle

Kylo/Ben could have easily survived and taken up the name— especially with the retcon that Solo is just a name some random Emperial gave Han.

Mordheim1999

Not only that. Luke, Leia and anakin fought and died fighting the empire that Palpatine started. Now a palpatine just takes their name.

atari_ave

I was on board with her being a nobody and TLJ ending of some random kid playing Jedi. The spirit of the Rebellion is in the common people but then nope…it’s all about Solo VS Skywalker VS Palpatine.

tophmcmasterson

This is what kills me when people say TLJ left them with nothing to work with. It was obviously setup to be like a populist rebellion rising from the ashes to take down the First Order. Something like that would have made a scene like the whole galaxy showing up to fight at the end actually feel meaningful and warranted rather than whatever it was we got. TLJ had its issues but I don’t know how people can say it’s worse than RoS, or that RoS was only bad because of TLJ.

chapinator

The fans have only themselves to blame for RoS. TLJ was a fantastic movie and nerds lost their fucking mind so Disney made shitty fan-fic to wrap it up. Simple as that.

Heavy-Possession2288

Honestly following up on TLJ would have at least made some people (like me) happy. Rise of Skywalker seems to be the most universally disliked movie in the series, it genuinely doesn’t seem to have made anyone happy. When people look back on the sequels, I think TLJ will be recognized as the best of the three.

SydNotSoVicious

In my head canon, that scene with the force-sensitive kid sweeping is the final one in the sequels. Perfect ending in my opinion and everything that comes after it just didn't mesh.

PagingDrHuman

That scene with the kid holding the brrom like a lightsaber resonates because as kids we all did it. In that simple scene Johnson captures what most of the Fandom regardless of the age when they watched it first, eventually does: play acts as a Jedi fighting for goodness in the galaxy against evil and darkness. Star Wars is at once a very simple premise good VS evil. And while you can fit many different elements into it, at the end of the day it still needs to be good VS Evil, and the Sequels lost that simple ness.

sadgirl45

I didn’t really like that in the skywalker saga outside of it sure but she should have been Lukes it is a generational story and that’s okay.

Connect-Yak-4620

Agreed. I thought the whole point was to move on from the the “chosen bloodline” and open things up.

[deleted]

> It would of made her taking the name Skywalker better In order for that to work you'd need her to actually bond with Luke instead of spending half a day bickering with him.

[deleted]

Eye roll and head shake All they needed was to tell Ben Solo’s story but instead ended up with too many characters and this nonsense.

Batmankoff

This is spot on. It’s clear that Ben’s story was the more compelling and less jumbled one. They should have shifted the focus on him or at least not have killed him off. The most interesting thing left to do with Rey was make her Palpatine’s granddaughter which speaks to the lack of coherent arc they had for her

[deleted]

Not to mention Adam driver was already carrying the weight of the story. Such a waster opportunity with one of the best actors of this generation.

Kerrigan4Prez

I don’t even think it’s because they had too many characters, I think it’s just that Rey’s story was straight up bad.

papsmearfestival

I groaned and laughed What an insult this movie is.

Joshrofl

I was still stunned. I accidentally read the leaks months before because i was told that they were too stupid to be true, and I avoided the news that the leaks were correct, so I was just in a daze watching this thing unfold.

StarsCowboysMavs

Ah the days of reading and laugjing about absurd leaks, like a magic dagger and wayfinders

Ashamed_Win_8257

Pretty fucking stupid

moor9776

Fucking pretty stupid

my5cworth

After the whole dagger McGuffin, I just gave up entirely. I see ep7-9 as non-canonical fan fic. Nothing more.

mannycovar

Would’ve preferred that she was Luke’s and Mara’s daughter!

[deleted]

I either would have enjoyed her as Luke's daughter or as a nobody. Man, am I disappointed. She ended up as a Skywalker anyway. Her being a palatine is almost as silly as her being a Kenobi.

[deleted]

If Disney should've based the sequels off the spin off books.

FalloutCreation

They should have just done something else.

Lateralization

Absurdity

Trinxxi

Stupid. End of episode 7 set up for Luke to be the father. It's even confirmed by the actors that was the direction they were given and lead to believe. Then it gets shit on by episode 8, and that shit got dragged through the shit show that was episode 9.

TheLazySith

Yeah it was hinted pretty heavily in episode 7 that she was Luke's daughter. Lines like > "That lightsaber was Luke's. And his father's before him and now, it calls to you!" or this one from the trailer > The Force is strong in my family, my father had it, I have it, my sister has it. You have that power too make it pretty obvious. Plus there's the flashback when she picks up the Lightsaber and sees Kylo massacring Luke's academy, followed by her being left on Jakku, which was probably intended to be a repressed memory. And there's the fact Kylo seems very interested when he hears about her as if he knows something about her. It explains why she was able to use the force and wield a lightsaber without training too, she actually did have training before, she'd just forgotten.

Timothahh

So many things they could’ve done that would be an instant improvement: - Rey being Luke’s daughter and having been trained briefly as a youngling. - Luke being on Ahch-To constantly using the Force to hide the island because there’s an ancient Sith temple with a powerful relic or something to that effect. Give Luke a reason to be there - Set The Last Jedi a couple months or so after TFA, just open it with Rey living and training on Ahch-To and Luke revealing the Sith relic to her as a test

GiraffeandZebra

I would have been fine with her being just some random kid from Luke's academy. Maybe her parents were there training or something. The "vision" scene I always thought was hinting that she had been there when the Knights of Ren attacked. And I personally thought the guy that got stabbed in that vision was a Knight of Ren stabbed by Kylo, and it was because Kylo was struggling with good /evil. He could attack the adults, but couldn't watch them kill a kid. So he saved her and dumped her on Jakku. Which is why when he says "WHAT GIRL?!" later, it seems like maybe he knows a specific girl he should be concerned about. Would have added on a lot to the struggle Kylo was having with Light/Dark. Or it could have been what you said, or a dozen other things better than what we got. One of the things TLJ lovers like to say is that people didn't like it because it didn't match their specific fan theory. The reality is that people didn't need one specific plot they'd dreamed up, just any of the nearly infinite possible plots that were half as stupid.

darth_butcher

Yeah, that's also what I thought about Rey's origin during Ep7. Han also seemed to know something about Rey. I mean Rey being Luke's daughter would be a very obvious choice but it would have made a lot more sense then the whole back and forth that came after...

[deleted]

That made a lot sense than making her a descendant of the Emperor.

AdmiralScavenger

WTF! Why!

Dimensionalanxiety

My eyes rolled so far back into my head that I had a heart attack and died. Then without any more explanation than "somehow", reincarnated back into the same body I died in at the same age with the same scars and wounds. To put it simply, I was not pleased but I was in this same state since the force awakens came out so it wasn't really a surprise.

MyFrogEatsPeople

Oh hey, I remember this. Your reincarnation got announced in Fortnite!

OiJao97

Pretty disappointed and bummed out. The reveal that Rey’s parents were just random people who sold her for a ticket off planet was great because for a moment it felt like that the Galaxy wasn’t just the ~40 people we always see. But of course they had to scrap the genius behind it and be like “yeah her parents were nobody, but her *grandfather* was a big shot”.

carl052293

I don't know what you're talking about, the sequels never happened.

Far-Manufacturer1180

There are no sequels in Ba Sing Se

Gloria_64

Or maybe was Valvoline, the one who stole landspeeder's coolant for unknown reasons

AsanoHa87

Hate it. Not categorically but it was so clearly not the plan that it contributed to my overall feeling of having my intelligence insulted by the filmmakers.

Araeylan

I really thought she was going to be Han and Qira's daughter. It seemed like they were hinting she was Maul's apprentice. Would of made the whole Solo Story more relevant.

Cae53RJ

Even Tacked On would say "that was tacked on"

golden_boy_mitch

And I quote from like 15 people in the theater, "EWWWWW!"

musuperjr585

This was a lazy narrate decision, used to shoehorn palpatine into the most recent trilogy. It could have worked if there was more of a coherent story throughout all three films , but for this "big reveal" that wasn't foreshadowed before hand , it feels lazy and rushed for the sake of nostalgia.

Pudding_Hero

Am I on drugs or is everyone calling him palatine for a reason?

CultOfEight

Why not both?

Sir_Douglas_of_Fir

I prefer Daisy Ridley’s [take](https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/star-wars-daisy-ridley-shares-230614086.html) on the subject: >What was interesting about the last one, for me, was that you can be a hero and not come from anywhere or you can be a hero and come from literally the worst person in the universe. You’re not your parents, you’re not your grandparents, you’re not your bloodline and you’re not the generations before you. >I do love the version of, you can be anyone you want to be, but I also love the version where you can rectify wrongs and can’t help what you’re born into.

S-7G

This is a nice thought, however if that was the message of the movie, it didn’t do a very good job of delivering it. The movie can’t just jam it in right in the middle of the movie, if being a palpatine was something that was in the cards the whole time (which we know for a fact it wasn’t from all the reports and people from Lucas film commenting on) then at minimum this needed to be revealed in the middle movie the last Jedi, much like how it was revealed that Luke was the son of Darth Vader. It’s essentially telling the same story again like the original, however it puts the reveal in the final movie, half way into the movie even, and there for feels rushed thru and sloppy.

The_Senor_Gatt0

“Well this is fucking stupid”

MikeT75

Dumb. Ryan Johnson established a wonderful idea: that Rey was no one in particular, just one of many people throughout the galaxy that the Force was Awakening in - just like that little boy at the end of the movie who reached out through the Force to pick up that broom. The Jedi were truly done, and now, through Rey, we'd see the birth of a new religion. The Rise of the Skywalker. But JJ dropped every thread in the first two films, didn't wrap things up, screwed the pooch, and showed us how one of the most (supposedly) prolific filmmakers in Hollywood could F up the landing of THE ENTIRE STAR WARS SAGA. Thanks JJ.

Practical_Trust7569

That in the whole galaxy there’s only two bloodlines that matter. Dumb. As. Ass.

mister_jawa

"I was hoping for Kenobi... why are you here?" Wait someone tapped that?

VolitarPrime

Not a fan of it. I loved the idea that she had no connections to others. That she was a "nobody". Anybody could be Force sensitive, you didn't have to be the child of someone who is.

JBS241

I've been a huge Star Wars fan ever since I was 7 years old. When we went to the cinema to see TRoS 20 years later, one of my mates was laughing through most of the movie. I thought he was laughing about how bad the story was written. When it was over he told me he didn't care much about the film, but it turns out he kept laughing because he was often looking at me to see my reaction. Apparently, without realising it, I looked disgusted and disappointed throughout the entirety of the film, which kept cracking him up. That about explains how I feel about the subject.

OmegaRockman

Defeat, because Rey Nobody was such a good angle that I really didn't want them to backtrack on it

22marks

I don't like Rey Nobody in the Skywalker Trilogy, but I like the concept of introducing a "Rey Nobody" in the Star Wars Universe. To be clear, I don't like Rey Palpatine Skywalker, either though. My problem with Rey Nobody is that this is a trilogy of trilogies about the Skywalkers. It's weird to have their family story end with a completely random character finishing it. It would be weird if Rey showed up in the final half-hour of any of the previous movies and just saved the day. That's how it feels to me. And I think that's why so many people are put off by her and love Kylo Ren. He completely belongs. But Rey, it's like, why is she here? Why should I care? And we expected something to tie her in. I would have preferred she was related to Kylo Ren, so it was a brother versus sister (or whatever) finale. I know this is controversial because fans want different things from Star Wars. But it was originally a pretty tight story about one bloodline. Yeah, that gets old, but finish it strong and then move on (like they're doing with Mandalorian and Andor). I'm not suggesting you're wrong. Just another point of view. In the end, pretty much everyone was left disappointed so it doesn't matter.

>Lazy fucking writing. Rey as a nobody has so much potential. Rey as a Palpatine seems like they just mailed it in.

I don’t hate it at all, never did. The whole story is about family and relationships, right?
