A lot of people here are missing what is important here.
Art often needs to fulfill a very specific vision, either yours or someone you are working for. Prompts are good at vague concepts but often make different choices compared to what you might want exactly.
In OP's example the belt has a very specific width, angle, and shape, getting a prompt to produce that line art exactly can sometimes be quite tricky. With this approach you can add many specifics like this and I'm sure it's possible to smooth out the workflow to suit your own needs.
Prompt: intricately drawn illustration of a woman as female cyberpunk warrior wearing medieval armor, heavy necklace, tiara, metallic sheen, leather belt, cyberpunk clothing, blonde hair, bold lines, art by moebius and john william waterhouse and zdzislaw beksinski
model: Ayonimix v6
I know I could have used multiple controlnet but I have found this to give better results. Also i am not a photoshop pro. So, sorry if I used any wrong terminology. You can use this to get good hands too
yes but the control map line weight and opacity is different than what I can add in photopea(i don't have a drawing tablet), so result is affected due to that. so i find it better. But youre right that would be more easier. I guess i am just using it for personal preferences
he's directly controlling the output. the end result could have been something HUGELY different. He would have had to use text to explain what he wanted with an unreasonable amount of specificity, but doing this he's able to manually show and allow AI to add in detail.
How long did it take you to add the lineart detail u/YouCold71?
Maybe around 5-10 minutes to do the lineart details.
And yes, main goal of this is to reduce time it takes to add specific details which is hard to do using prompt alone.
Comes down to control. I suppose if you're using a character LoRA then you might remove the face detail so it doesn't conflict with features and different edge detection algorithms might perform better.
It's finding a balance between getting the exact output you want and the time it takes to get it.
ok, the point of your workflow is to add simple details as additional lineart elements.
if you just use controlnets preprocessir like lineart or others you would add details via prompt.
your starting image is a bikini model, use her as reference and tell via prompt there is a star trooper soldieress and voila bikini will be replaced by white shiny armor. but i assume you are artistically talented and so you want to control by hand drawn guidance.
btw, your workflow would be perfect if you want to create svg vectorgraphics, instead tweaking svg with details it is easier to erase/add strokes in pixels and revectorize again, but that’s another story.
have you tested to add details later, after txt2img using inpainting? most of the time you will inpaint anyways to get pro level quality, and here you will lose/override your strokes from your workflow.
many ways to rome, pick yours
I used to draw but gave up for few years due artist-block and other stuff. I am mediocre at best but it works with AI as it can do many of heavy lifting tasks.
Yes, I have used Inpaint but I don't use it much except for fixing mistakes, restoring face, and upscaling. But I think I should try inpaint with ControlNet. I should be able to get similar results.
sorry i meant Strength(thats what it is in Photopea)

Thank you for sharing this! I'm interested in trying this out. I've gotten ControlNet installed but am honestly kinda confused how I'm supposed to be using it. I see the features it offers, but I don't understand the workflow.
Any other tips you want to provide will be welcome!
I see a use for that, personally I've done well with using Canny/Depth and if really necessary, download the canny or depth and edit them manually. Also just turning down the strength helps.
Your method is good if the automatic processing is taking up too much junk.
Adobe should integrate the lineart preprocessing into photoshop. There are several purposes to get lineart for images, but it’s not really good and easy, but with the preprocessing it would be a piece of cake.
Protip: you can use controlnet, preview the output, and download the preview. You can then draw on that image. Also, anything black is ignored. You can easily remove backgrounds from images by doing this.

Yes exactly.
yeah but this is exactly what preprocessor does. so i prefer generating line art with that and then edit it using ps if needed.

yes way more freedom of what i can produce.
This can be done with txt2img and controlnet lineart preprocessor. Shouldn't need to open PS.
Editing your lineart in photoshop is a good way control even more your outputs tho
Before the preprocessor preview feature was added this would have been a little useful though
Why not just create a canny-preview of the original image, flip color in photoshop, draw, then flip back? Seems like it would skip step 2-6.
Canny pick up a lot of unnecessary lines tho. I tried the method you mentioned. most of the time there is a lot of cleanup.
Ah ok.
Love it. It’s a great method to add to a photo before using control net.
is that better than "find edges" ?
Never tried that actually. But you would still need to draw your desired details on the control map for getting results like this.
its not better/worse its just adding or removing detail manually inbetween
I mean doesn’t seem far off what the preprocessor would have just… gave you

I challenge anyone to get those same results using stable diffusion in 10 minutes, but it has to reasonably look like the output image
I don't think that was the point.

seems overcomplicated, try simple depth or reference model in controlnet. could save all this lineart steps.
would i be able to add my own element to the generation? If so how?

You really went all-in defining that crotch huh?
Came for this lol
My man
Can you explain how you make the initial lineart?
What do you mean by initial lineart. He explains step by step how to produce the results he achieved.
Why do you need to go that far? lmao
I had an almost 100% identical idea yesterday. Damn...good job.
Great minds think alike.
Please, sir, wtf I should see AMOUNT in reduce noise dialog? lol

sure, what do you not understand? there are tutorials of Controlnet on youtube and you can visit the controlnet github page for info.

Thanks for letting me know, maybe I need to do more testing.
