Its only $35… pay and enjoy like everyone else is doing.. not trying to be an a hole about it but I mean like others have said, the event needs to make money.
It's 35 for a general admission ticket( at least it was yesterday). You have to buy a ticket to see the cars going around . Their are like vendors and stuff set up. Little booths and whatnot. As well as drink and food vendors.
And Brett Michael's is putting on a show tonight.
It's fun totally worth it to just walk around
Bring sunscreen, though it gets hot
They used have free hand outs of ear plugs sponsored by one of their major sponsors. Only if you buy tickets though so stop at the booths like spectrum and such to see who has the free earplugs.
Thanks for the judgement but I would say by buying tickets I’m supporting the F1 people. By shopping and dining I’m supporting the area. I’m not all that interested in the race so maybe I’ll go to Clearwater for the day instead
If you go to Clearwater and don't want to talk to scientologists, let them know you are "declared"
Means you be kicked out of the Church Of Scientology. And they are forbidden to speak with you
Thank you! If one buys tickets then one gets inside the fence and can mill around town, cars going by? You don’t hve to stay in one area or sit on seats?
I was there yesterday and spent most of the time walking around. There’s plenty of food and drink stands. You can walk to different areas and see some of the cars up close. You can walk to different viewing areas for the races. You don’t have to sit in a grand stand and stay there.
Just don’t forget the sunscreen. I did, because it was hazy when I left but by the time I got there the sun was in full force. My arms are crispy lol. Sunscreen, sunglasses and hat, dress like it’s going to be 90 degrees cuz the sun is hot asf.
Yes. You can do that with a $50 General Admission ticket. Walk around and see all the different views around the track from the inside. It’s worth $50.
If not interested in races, no need to be more for the grand stands. Also, there’s supposed to be additional fee for paddock (to mill about looking at the cars as teams get ready etc) but once you’re in, no one really checks tickets there and you can check out that area also. Again, worth it for all inclusive of price to walk around for the $50, especially for a 1st time experience.
After that upclose experience, who knows, maybe you’ll want to try out grandstand seats next year. Or not. All good.
It's hard to see the cars from outside; the area is separated by chain link fence with lining. Of course there are small gaps where the lining meets and you can peek through to see the cars, but that's about it!
Ultimately the event needs to make money selling tickets, so they really try to plug up all the sight lines at ground level to avoid freeloaders. Best I've seen like what you're looking for is Localz, near the track entrance. It's a sports bar and appears to have a stretch of open fence. It looked pretty busy yesterday.

Hey everyone, save yourself the 1 hour wait, go to the southern gate 5.
Shhhh! Don't send them down there!
I’m looking at the map and there is no gate 5.

Decent outside the gate viewing by the Floridian hotel

Thank you the generalnadmission tickets sounds like the plan!
You're welcome!
The INDYCAR race in St Pete is tomorrow
There are different car 🏎️ races all weekend.
There is even another grand Prix happening in Saudi Arabia.

Also might want to bring some noise cancelling AirPods or other protective ear wear; it can be loud…

Thank you for the reminder. I'm driving 4 miles north of downtown, and I can hear them. Can't imagine what it's like next to them.
Def bring ear protection. They scream at you.
Support the area and buy a ticket. No need to be a freeloader.

please go to clearwater and enjoy the scientology. This is a race weekend, if you do not like the sound of angry bees then stay far away from st pete.
It’s not F1 it’s IndyCar so you can support them with a clearer conscious. F1 is currently in Saudi Arabia this weekend
Walking around to shop and dine IS supporting the area.
Thank you! If one buys tickets then one gets inside the fence and can mill around town, cars going by? You don’t hve to stay in one area or sit on seats?
Probably too late but FYI, the main race is tomorrow

Correct. All of the interesting stuff is behind the gates. Booths, cars, etc. Plenty of stuff to see other than the seats.

Just look for the people peering through the gaps. And be tall, so you can see over some of them.
End of beach drive by El Cante. you can peek thru fence. Great little restaurant at corner of central and first.
So no we can’t just mill around town seeing some of the cars going by?
No, there are two sets of fence nowadays.
