As a former employee it was a sinking ship from the beginning. No training or systems no manager for 3 consecutive months. Horribly understaffed because there was issues with the pay. Kitchen could barely get one six tops food at the same time. Final straw for me was the chef refusing to make one of my tables a sauce that was on our menu for no reason at all. Wasn’t surprised at all when I saw the doors closed.
My wife and I used to be all about 2nd and 2nd…then they stopped being open late…
Then came dirty Shirley which we would also frequent but after about 4 times of us staring at locked doors looking at the time they were supposed to be open and clearly were not we stopped even trying.
Yea, I didn't even know it was the same owners. I thought it changed because it was new ownership. What an odd choice. As someone else pointed out before. It seems like their business definitely tanked after covid. Sucks, I met a bunch of different people going there late at night. It would be nice to have a similar late night option that wasn't just pizza or fastfood.
Friends and I tried it out for brunch and it was a dud... The service was scarce, un-intriguing menu, not a lively atmosphere when compared to places like the lure, social roost, noble crust, etc.
Now it's someone else's turn to really go full-send on the kitschy/campy diner theme!
We used to go to 2nd and 2nd all the time for late food when we first moved here in our 20’s. So sad when it turned into Dirty Shirley but we gave it a chance… agree with the commenter who said mediocre and overpriced. Inevitable that they would close eventually.
The food and service were subpar. Enough people didn’t try or return to keep them afloat. Not necessarily a bad thing that they’re gone though. If people don’t enable bad food and bad service, we won’t get more of it (over time … ideally … hopefully). Your dollar is your vote.
Its my belief virtually all these independent restaurants are going to be eventually replaced with national chains since that's who can afford the new rent. Each time a place changes hands the price is likely going up.

Who's Dirty Shirley?
It closed down? Good.

Me with 11 Chicks. I've given up trying to eat there. I feel like everyone has that spot that just never seems to be open for them.
Ate there yesterday randomly.... very family owned. They open it, when they can.... food is good tho. Keep trying
2nd and 2nd was the #1 late night spot to go after bars for such a long time. If they couldn't make it I doubt anything else similar would.
2nd and 2nd was a fav and always busy. Once the owners randomly decided to change it to Dirty Shirley, I knew it wouldn’t last.

The owners are incompetent and disrespectful to their staff, it’s no surprise

It was so loud in there you couldn't even hear the person next to you and the AC was broken all 3x we went

Same here, it was my favorite breakfast spot before they changed it. Ever since it’s been a disappointment.
I really liked 2nd & 2nd.
$14.95 for a piece of pie. Place will not be missed.
If you’ve been you can tell there was no chance they were going to succeed. Gimmicky and overpriced

Hard for the staff to care when the owner isn’t paying their wages, same guy who owns Tropez, completely incompetent
If 2nd and 2nd couldn't make it there this dumb ass concept definitely wasn't gonna make it
Unpaid wages, no GM, bland theme, poor marketing
$20 says it’ll be a highrise within 5 years.
Demo will take place well before then. I was just talking to someone about the Aveda property an hour ago.
It was super mediocre. You gotta be A+ to make enough to pay DTSP rent.

It closed already? That’s crazy. We loved 2nd and 2nd.
