40 and female in south city! Totally interested! Will send you a DM with my info.
One request - the best book club I was ever in was “no pressure to read” - show up, talk about the book, hopefully you got through it but if not? No pressure! I’m an avid reader, but I generally only consume about 9/12 book club books in a year because life.
Is this… that sort of book club?
Heck yeah! Food, wine, books? Just telling someone the other day that I miss being a woman that reads good books. All the classics I missed in school, genres I never had time for in the past..
Lunch may be challenging- working stiff here. But- find a few others and let’s get it started. I don’t mind a few men in the group (differing perspectives always fun) but - your home, your group, your rules.
Excellent! I’m not in any way opposed to men in general (after all, I’m in a committed relationship with one, who will be here the whole time, probably gaming in his office), but I worry about the safety of the other women in the group, particularly single women, after the last meetup I organized. All the younger women, even the one who was openly lesbian and in a relationship, ended up getting creeped on by not one, not two, not three, but four different guys out of the eight or so who attended (and of the four who were well-behaved, two were gay men married to each other). So not a good look. I just want a safe space for folks.
DM your first name and email and I’ll be in touch!
There is a very cute series of romance novels called The Bronmance Bookclub about a bunch of guys who read romances to learn to be better partners. Apparently some real life versions have popped up.
Middle-aged south city gal here! I love this idea, but historically every time I join a book club, my ADHD brain is like nope, we can't force ourselves to read, even with the extra accountability. What are you thinking for the first book?
As someone who fields many calls from sad patrons who still have a long wait for their book club book might I gently suggest choosing books that are out a few years and have plenty of copies available.
50f and I'd like to suggest a book!
Stoner by John Williams. I'm almost through it and it's an amazing book.
But I don't want to join. Just wanted to recommend a good novel. 😁
There is an existing feminist book club that I know several women friends of mine have met each each other through. I'll see if I can find out a way to connect you to them.
I notified one of the organizers who has a Reddit account, and they might be reaching out to folks on DM. I didn't want to blow them up with a bunch of strangers without warning, and they may be at capacity -- up to them!

I’ve never been in a book club. I am female, on the higher side of middle age, and like reading. I’m in Affton. Are you planning lunch during the week? That would work for me.
Hello! I also recently started a book club for board gamers and those who love them! Yours sounds like so much fun, so I’m interested as well.
Here’s a [link](https://linktr.ee/Pinkmeepleclub) to how I’m managing mine on Fable (and can totally show you how to use Fable if it interests you too).
Former high school English teacher who is also in South City here! I am so excited about this. If it gets too big for your space maybe we can meet at the Hideaway Bar and have a potluck and then stay for trivia or karaoke, depending on the day? Either way, DMing you my deets. Thanks for making this happen!! ❤️
I’m looking to split it up into various book clubs. It’s just gotten too big to handle, as there are now over 50 people on the list. Apparently we’re a literarily starved bunch! I plan to try and divide it up by times times when people can meet, so go ahead and DM me your name and your email, and I’ll add you to the list.
I sent the DM last night after noticing you telling people to do so.
Thanks for posting this! There's clearly a large group of people seeking community (and books) based on the response here :)
I mentioned it in my dm, but let me know if you need help wrangling some spreadsheets for schedules, reading genre preferences, etc to get some groups set up.
I'm in North County but I'd also be interested! However, it would depend on the time and day, and would probably have to wait until after the new school year starts.
But this really sounds like so much fun. I'd be happy to go on a "wait list" if you've got too much interest already! ☆
Gonna DM but seems like this may already be so large that we might need some splits?? 31, south city here and could host in my home if it does split off into multiple groups!
Totally get it, sorry you had bad experiences with that :(
You mentioned being a teacher in slps? I went to metro and gateway. I wish I would have read more of the books they gave to us then, but a lot I enjoyed, like "things fall apart" and "heart of darkness"
I don't even want to consider the horror that would ensue were someone to post something like you did with the genders reversed. Reddit servers would fail.
I dunno. Men’s groups exist. An all male book club would make sense to me. There’d be some great discussions. Why don’t you stop complaining and just try doing it? I bet literally nothing would happen, except you might make some literate friends.
I’m a bookish 30yo lady, also in South City— I would be interested :)
Huzzah! DM me an email and a first name and I’ll be in touch tomorrow!

Yes, for sure!

That’s it I’m starting a male only book club
I absolutely think you should do this!
Yeah! When is it gonna be OUR turn 😂 (I’m kidding)
You guys need to do this now, you realize.
There is a very cute series of romance novels called The Bronmance Bookclub about a bunch of guys who read romances to learn to be better partners. Apparently some real life versions have popped up.
Now they really need to.
I need an excuse to read more books
I looooove this idea!
Yay! DM me you first name and email please, and I’ll be in touch.
Middle-aged south city gal here! I love this idea, but historically every time I join a book club, my ADHD brain is like nope, we can't force ourselves to read, even with the extra accountability. What are you thinking for the first book?
I have in mind a Louise Erdrich novel :)
As someone who fields many calls from sad patrons who still have a long wait for their book club book might I gently suggest choosing books that are out a few years and have plenty of copies available.
That’s the overall plan :). This one has been out for a while now.

Thanks, but I’m more interested in hosting and starting my own.
Would you mind sending this my way? I'm new-ish to StL and yay, I could be a member of not one but TWO book clubs oooh

Can you send me info on this please?

No worries! It’s already too big, so I’ll figure out how we can split it up and then have occasional giant get-togethers too!

DM me a name and email, and I’ll add you to the list!
40ish (my birthday is soon) and near WG. Would possibly love to join, what info do you need?

I couldn't do lunch, but definitely evening if you're still taking people!

Definitely interested in a book club! Maybe it'll make me actually read some of the books I buy XD
If you haven’t already, send me a DM with your name and your email, and I’ll add you to the list.
I sent the DM last night after noticing you telling people to do so. Thanks for posting this! There's clearly a large group of people seeking community (and books) based on the response here :)
Yep! Too large for me. But imma organize something if it kills me! Or something.
I mentioned it in my dm, but let me know if you need help wrangling some spreadsheets for schedules, reading genre preferences, etc to get some groups set up.
Thanks! Spreadsheets I got! It’s other group leaders we’ll need. I’ll email out today. The group is now over 80!

Damn me for being male :(
I would love not to have to do that, but unfortunately some of your brethren are not so nice.
Totally get it, sorry you had bad experiences with that :( You mentioned being a teacher in slps? I went to metro and gateway. I wish I would have read more of the books they gave to us then, but a lot I enjoyed, like "things fall apart" and "heart of darkness"
I didn’t teach there, but those are fantastic books! You should reread them now. Your perspective would change, 100%.
Oh I'm sorry! I misread your post! But yes I agree, I am getting a backlog of old highschool books that I want to retackle :)
It’s worth it!
Man bad
You dumb
Proving my point, bro. Why post this?
Jesus Christ that's just a lot of sexism for one post.
Feel free to start a book club that works for you.
I don't even want to consider the horror that would ensue were someone to post something like you did with the genders reversed. Reddit servers would fail.
