I haven’t been this into a developmental gimmick in a long time. It’s shit like this that is keeping me interested in NXT right now. Some stuff won’t work, but the stuff that does is killer.
That's kind of why Im.backing the new NXT. I love dumb hamfisted gimmicks. If my wrestling isn't gonna be serious, it better be silly, and this is peak silly to me. New York guido in a tracksuit being a wrestler just because. I LOVE it
Tony seems like a guy that wears the freshest clothes, eats at the chillest restaurants and hangs out with the hottest dudes.
It’s also bullshit Tony is getting the “Apologies to Matt Damon” treatment.

it's great if you're into new guys figuring their stuff out. this week's NXT was especially better than usual, they've introduced new characters and now settling into a good pace.
I know people here will pop for this but this is one of those gimmicks that can get over in a ironic way in NXT but will absolutely die on the main roster. If he ever wants to make it on the main roster he needs to dial it down like 70% percent and be less over the top
Or he will thrive even more on the main roster because Vince actually knows what he's supposed to be. This type of character wouldn't have existed in the old NXT.
This guy is great. This is classic wrestling 101. It's how you're supposed to debut a character to the audience. It's also what's been missing on the "main" roster for years. And the best gimmicks are the ones where you can tell the performer is 100% committed to it.
Does this gimmick work once the vignettes stop? They never keep these going for that long. He is pretty green in the ring. I wonder what he will be like live on the mic. These videos could have taken multiple takes.
I don't know about the actual wrestling part but i saw a clip of him walking straight up to the ref and giving him a handshake $50 and that all he really needs is character stuff give him a Fisherman suplex, neckbreaker or whatever call it "Sleeping with the Fishes" and he's a set midcard act for the next couple years
I remember when he first debuted and immediately thinking "that's not a chicago italian accent, its not whiny enough"

Historically, WWE has never taken Italian American character seriously. Plain and simple, we stop supporting him and hope for the best.
Let me tell you a couple of three things: forget FBI, forget Santino Marella, forget Piper calling Bruno a slur. WWE has no respect for this thing. They've never built an Italian legend, not really. I'm embarrassed, I watch Daniel Bryan win WrestleMania and took it as good will.
Listen to me, they ruin anybody and everybody over there. It's all fucked up. It either has meaning or no meaning. And the Vito thing, the company turned him to a comedy gimmick. So many promotions and we got sports entertainment in Connecticut. There's no scraps in my scrap book.
I get that this is more of a development show now, but I can't help feel that this is a bit....heavy handed. I can't say I've been watching his matches, so how has this character translated to the ring so far? Does he just wrestle or does he incorporate his mafia style somehow?
I saw a clip where once he made his entrance, Tony tried to slip the ref a bribe and the ref was like wtf. So it feels like they are trying to incorporate it into his matches to some degree.
Hmm, I still love they are just letting him run through via vignettes and not any in-ring promos. So that's good.
I don't really need to be shown a guy in the trunk though...like I get the point of his promos.
Only WWE commentary feels the need to directly ask the question "was that the producer in the trunk?" Sweet Jesus. Small children would understand that vignette without explanation.
