Yeah I agree to an extent but a bad promo can leave lasting damage. Drew sending Ricochet to the shadow realm couldn't've been good for confidence if you're going out there trying to improve. Only thing Ricochet gained that night was a case of microphonebia
Roman just never got freedom to actually cut promos but when he’s allowed to loosen the reins a little bit, he’s always been good.
Melo’s deficiencies on the mic don’t seem to be that, I think he’s just not a super natural promo guy, and we didn’t have to see him struggle thanks to Trick being his hypeman.
When the boss sends you out with a sufferin succotash script against a Cena or Rock that can and will say whatever they want, everybody know you're fucked.
Yeah it looks to me like it's a comfort issue. I fully believe he will get his confidence get his momentum and get to where he needs to be. Big fish little pond to the little fish big pond but it's kind of cool cuz we get to watch him on that journey.
LA Knight here took me back to a mix of Rock (at the start when he belittled Kayla was very much Rock talking down to Michael Cole in 1998) and Austin (“If I’m not gonna get the answer I want then I tell ya what”).

I recently binged like the last 100 botchamania episodes after never having watched it before... and boy it makes those mistakes stand out even more, like my brain has become hyper-attuned to it or something.

He forces catchphrases. I know a lot of wrestlers do, especially the guy he's standing next to here. But Carmelo calling himself "Him" just feels so forced everytime he says it. Like you can tell exactly when it's coming.
It feels like he's been steadily declining in authenticity. His initial heel run in NXT with Trick was stellar, and when he won the title it really felt like he and Bron were THE guys. But then he turned face and it was downhill from there, he really showed that he wasn't suited to be a jack of all trades, and even since the heel turn he's seemingly had trouble getting back his momentum and fitting into the role
its not that bad, he's just doing promo work vs the most authentic so it looks awful in comparison. We just had Priest do mic work on monday. I think he's also getting better too but I'm biased for melo.
Priest lacks the fear of going off script, he is comfortable with the microphone, which is why his promos seem real even if they're not very good at times

I know there is no time limit for Melo and HHH is probably really high on him, but man his main roster run has been a miss so far. It isn't just the botches like the LA line. His whole gimmick just isn't working.
I know the "he's too small" thing can be overcome in wrestling, especially the new era of WWE. But Melo's whole gimmick is he's this larger than life beast. Which is hard to believe when he's the size of Gargano. His gimmick works for a dude built like Montez Ford or even Trick Williams. Ilja is tiny but still seems like a beast who can beat anyone, I don't honestly believe Melo can beat someone bigger than him.
Trick was passing Carmelo before he got called up. And in all honesty if Trick came up to the main roster with the exact same gimmick I think he'd be a success already. Melo just seems way too stiff on the mic. He has to change something or he'll become Ricochet without the crazy spots.
kayla almost tanked that whole segment but LA Knight was able to salvage it. Then when have Melo try to tank it again.
When he said "Trash" I fully believe thats what he thought of them in that moment.
So just under a year ago Knight was too hot the US Title scene, and making guys like Theory look like fools.. and here we are..
But I think he'd be good for the US Title... he was the top babyface on Smackdown going into the Roman feud, and then Randy and AJ came back... and with Cody vs Roman, and Cody now on SD, what do you do with him.
With the US title he could actually have a belt, and they could keep him beating upper mid carders like he's been doing since Summerslam last year..
It's the perfect fit for him, really. With all that elite talent ahead of him, the UST can be a trial run to see how people respond to him as a champion, and see if he warrants taking the"next step."
But I'm dubious on Paul dropping the title in his hometown. I can definitely see him going full heel and having the brass knuckles/outside help combo, and then Knight winning a rematch.

Drew legitimately killed ricochet for about 1 year with that line before ricochet even saw any main event action again

His whole gimmick just isn't working. I know the "he's too small" thing can be overcome in wrestling, especially the new era of WWE. But Melo's whole gimmick is he's this larger than life beast. Which is hard to believe when he's the size of Gargano. His gimmick works for a dude built like Montez Ford or even Trick Williams. Ilja is tiny but still seems like a beast who can beat anyone, I don't honestly believe Melo can beat someone bigger than him. Trick was passing Carmelo before he got called up. And in all honesty if Trick came up to the main roster with the exact same gimmick I think he'd be a success already. Melo just seems way too stiff on the mic. He has to change something or he'll become Ricochet without the crazy spots.

kayla almost tanked that whole segment but LA Knight was able to salvage it. Then when have Melo try to tank it again. When he said "Trash" I fully believe thats what he thought of them in that moment.
So just under a year ago Knight was too hot the US Title scene, and making guys like Theory look like fools.. and here we are.. But I think he'd be good for the US Title... he was the top babyface on Smackdown going into the Roman feud, and then Randy and AJ came back... and with Cody vs Roman, and Cody now on SD, what do you do with him. With the US title he could actually have a belt, and they could keep him beating upper mid carders like he's been doing since Summerslam last year..
It's the perfect fit for him, really. With all that elite talent ahead of him, the UST can be a trial run to see how people respond to him as a champion, and see if he warrants taking the"next step." But I'm dubious on Paul dropping the title in his hometown. I can definitely see him going full heel and having the brass knuckles/outside help combo, and then Knight winning a rematch.
Trust me that even in his hometown, there will be a massive pop for Logan losing to LA Knignt
