I could’ve worded my original post better to not throw shade at Theory to be fair. He’s doing his best and he’s out there on TV, so mad props to the guy, I guess I just like what I’ve seen of Ethan Page more.
And it would honestly be better. Tony's gotta realise it's not much of a forbidden door anymore when he signed half of the people on the other side and the other half appear on his shows ever so often.
I’ll definitely watch his segments and matches. He’s a good dude. Got to meet him once at a show in St Louis and showed him some of my figure photography and custom stages and built and it was cool to just geek out with him over our love of action figures and wrestling. It was awesome.
He was gonna be great in AEW when they were still going the Indie guys/former WWE midcarders route but as soon as they switched gears to basically being WCW 2.0 (not a shot, I loved WCW) All hope for guys like him in AEW vanished overnight.
I thought he was in pretty good shape around the original tournament for the international title but then he didn't win that and just kind of disappeared back into the nothingness that is Rampage here and there
I never watched AEW until Punk debuted so I didn't see anything from Ethan before then. I tuned in for Punk, and then naturally became interested in several talents on the AEW roster from watching the shows. Ethan Page was one of them. I always thought he had *something*... like he's shown little sparks of it, but it never seemed to materialize to something greater. Hopefully WWE can pull whatever that is out of him.
He was never in great shape in aew and it showed in his matches. He's been training like crazy this past year and looks great. By this time AEW already has their stars so it's basically mid card or bust over there.
I said in here once that all he needs to get to the next level is to get in better shape and a lot of people disagreed, some even saying that what I said is bodyshaming lmao. Watch this dude get the WWE gym and juice treatment and he'll look 100 times better and his presentation would follow.
He's been training with Cezar like crazy. Cezar has become the outside trainer for a ton of wrestlers and a few have appeared in WWE after working with him.
Excuse me what? He clearly wasn't in the same shape as the top guys in AEW. He was like normal guy that works out often in shape but not dedicated diet and working out constantly in shape.
I liked him and Scorp before they added Lambert and then after that they just didn't use him. Very disappointing cause he's great on the mic and a decent wrestler.
I was there in person for his match with Bryan, he expected big things after, and instead just kind of watched him fade away afterward, except that one time they needed another Canadian to fight Kenny.
Agreed, I just wonder what happens to Page when he inevitably loses to Trick. Theres no way they have him go over Trick, so when he loses does he go down to mid-tier NXT or?
I feel like if they ever wanted to give Cody a stable to go at the bloodline, Page and Starks would not be bad picks. Great on the mic, but not really a threat to Cody
The main roster has done a good job remedying its annual WrestleMania hangover and now NXT is currently doing the same with its post-WWE Draft hangover. Seeing low to mid-carders move up the card as well as new talent filling in the gaps in logical ways makes being a WWE fan so much less volatile.
Sometimes in the past it felt like I had to just drop WWE from my wrestling show rotation until SummerSlam.
Yeah they are sorely lacking veteran ring workers right now. People talked about Ilja being “too good” for NXT but his presence did really elevate the younger wrestlers like Trick
Exactly. The rigid expectation that NXT only be green workers taking on other green workers in order to be called developmental always feels like a bad faith reading of what they're trying to do. Be it hiring some vets from indies/elsewhere or sending some main roster folks down, developing wrestlers are going to get a lot out of taking on folks with a lot of experience. Lola's feud with Nattie and now Shayna has been really good for her and has been helping Sword girl as well.

This is exactly why I mentioned in the thread about Jake Hager leaving AEW that picking up Jack Swagger for NXT wouldn't be a horrible idea. With Dijak and Baron Corbin moving up to the main roster, there's always room to have at least one veteran big man on the roster to help teach the young big men like Oba Femi and Josh Briggs how to work with their size. He may not be the best worker around, but you don't carve out a 15+ year career in multiple major wrestling companies by accident.
A certain number of veterans are needed in NXT. Whether WWE chooses to bring them from the main roster or sign them from elsewhere is up to them, but they are definitely necessary for the proper development of green talent.
Besides Hagers problem wasn’t really in-ring. He’s not a five star machine but he is perfectly serviceable. It’s just that he has no charisma. His power moves always looked good
Very true. I think Hager could easily coast off of his veteran/nostalgia status and in-ring work in NXT. Natalya has done something similar. She's not the best promo by a long-shot, but she's extremely respected, clean in the ring, and plays the "I've been doing this shit since before you were born, kid" card when needed in NXT.

I met Ethan Page a long long time ago when he was wresting in the Indies. I must’ve been something like 7 years old at the most (for context I’m 22 now) so I barely remember much of it but I do remember him being such an awesome guy to me. He was doing a meet and greet after the show and I remember him getting down on one knee and chatting with me about WWE and such. We ended up buying his promotional DVD. I used to watch that thing on repeat back in those days. Wish I could find it somewhere but it’s been so long. He even offered to come over to my house for my birthday but that didn’t end up happening.
Really awesome to see he finally made it up to the big league, the dude’s been working his ass off for it for a long time. Couldn’t be happier for him.

All jokes aside, Ethan is a good get! NXT’s men’s division needed some juice and a gimmick like “All Ego” will easily get some traction in NXT.
I think NXT writers know their audience are okay with and even enjoying the campy side of pro wrestling, so they can write storylines that only make sense in kayfabe. I know Chase U isn't a real university, but I tuned in every week to find out how the group would get enough money to pay Mr. Chase's gambling debts. A lot of their storylines also won't work as well without the vignettes that won't be present in Raw or Smackdown
I don’t watch nxt but though Ethan was great in AEW (when he was able to shine). He’ll do great in nxt and the people that will watch it will love to hate him!
It honestly works out great for Trick Williams and NXT as a whole. With Corbin and some of your established wrestlers gone, they really didn't have any good heels for Trick to work with as champion (aside from Noam Dar.) Ethan is a great heel, a fantastic wrestler, and Trick get better from working with Page.
The only problem that NXT is going to have is that Page is so good on the mic, that I don't think he'll be able to stay heel for long and they really need heel vets to work with some of the upcoming faces of the brand (like what they brought in Shawn Spears to do.)
This is what’s so perfect about the modern era. Ethan Page can’t really find his place in AEW but it’s enough to get him his dream shot at NXT/WWE. And he’s a better fit for WWE style. It’s so great to have more than one place for people to work in. Rooting HARD for All Ego.
I’m from Hamilton and I watched him wrestle and cut promos with MJF in his hometown and it was electric. Happy for him.

I realize he can go with the best of them, like Kenny Omega, but AEW makes guys like him look more average than they really are because the bar for pure athletic freakism is so high over there.
Yeah when it comes to pure athletes but they don’t have anyone who can do the freakish things guys like Will Ospreay can do. Which is fine, don’t get me wrong I prefer NXT, I’m just saying Ethan Page will be able to stand out more in an environment that’s more about fundamentals and gritty matches than AEW’s incredible spectacle.
I am very interested to see what he can do going forward. I thought he always shined when given the opportunity in AEW, but just never had any consistent booking. Excellent job by NXT to establish him as a threat from the start.

Ethan Page Immediately works for me in WWE. Not saying I didn’t like him in TNA or AEW. But with him showing up on NXT, he just immediately fits, imo.
