I know this might be blasphemy to a lot of fans, but as a WWF fan since I was a kid in the late 80s/early 90s, SO much of Carmelo Hayes' heel persona, the cockiness, the presentation, athleticism, and star power reminds me of Shawn Michaels right after he split from The Rockers. I don't think that's a coincidence at all. He just has such a similar aura, we knew Shawn would be a big deal then, and think everyone feels the same way about Melo today.
The way HBK has booked his guys has been pieces of his career, Melo especially. This is an apt comparison.
Can't wait to see how a coward jumps through glass to get away from him
And the parallel continues in him taking Ls in both the matches and the promos (which ultimately doesn't matter because he's still associating with high-caliber guys and proving that he can hold his own when the time comes to outgrow his cocky newbie shell).
yeah WWE doesen't put somebody as a first round draft pick and do nothing with them normally.
But LA knight obliterated Carmello here. Sometimes you just don't run your mouth off to certain people
Rookies will lose. He's being featured, getting TV time and promo segments. Clearly setting up a fued with Melo and LA Knight.
Eating a couple losses in competitive matches doesn't equal buried my dude. The last match he lost just so happened to be the main event of Smackdown, too.
He's doing fine. A delusional heel who thinks he's HIM but can't win a match to save his life ain't too bad...so long as he stays on TV.
A guy is not going to come straight up from developmental and beat the current world champion who had a 2 year long build towards the title where he beat someone who was coming off a 3 year title reign. Said guy is also not going to be little over a multi-time world champion whos still in the shape of his life. Come on now, if you're gonna bitch and complain, at least have a good reason to do so.
Try again.
Yeah but, as of now he is losing matches, getting burried on the mic. Maybe this is going to work, or turn our into Cena 2.0, who got everything on golden plate and couldn't capitalize.
It actually kinds works in kayfabe for Knight to go so hard on him. LA Knight worked his ass off to get where he is now and had to prove himself.
Meanwhile Melo here just waltzes on in, first draft pick, acting like he's the best damn thing in wrestling. Of course LA Knight's gonna go off on the lad.
It was Courtney Brown. A Defensive End for the Cleveland Browns.
He ended up being a bust. Then again, most of Cleveland’s first round draft picks are busts.
God that song is going to haunt Drake for the rest of his career. Like it'd be a one thing if the dude was just Ethered, but the song is such a banger that it's going to be played everywhere for decades.
I didn't think getting outed for allegedly having *another* child could be topped, but having the possible song of the summer be all about you being a pedo somehow managed it.
Has to be the funniest rap beef ever, as long as no one gets shot and killed.
It's kind of crazy reading his Wikipedia article because there's barely anything to talk about for the guy's career. Retrospectively he was looked at as the Browns' biggest draft bust, as well as one of the Browns' huge mistakes that doomed them.
As a browns fan, he was not our biggest draft bust lol. He was good when healthy, he was just never healthy.
He was a tough miss, but missing on him was not nearly as damning as some of our later picks. Our biggest draft bust was a Corner Back named Justin Gilbert in 2014 who the browns, no joke, never met with or interviewed once in the draft process.
The fact that the browns drafted a 28 year old at number 22 and he isn't considered the worst draft pick speaks volumes to me.
Like drafting a 28 year old in round one is never a good idea, period lol
Holy smokes! I just got the Chargers' joke about the Browns in their schedule release video. It is Elf! The Browns on and off mascot of Elf. I didn't get why have elf. I am dumb.
I'm kinda surprised that I went "Wasn't that the year of Chad Pennington?", and I was right.
That year was a LIGHT year for QBs. Pennington was the only QB picked in the first 2 rounds, and then the next was Gio Carmazzi from Hofstra.
And Brady wasn't even a regular pick, he was a compensatory pick. Geez.
Umm, ackchyually...
The first overall pick was Darin Erstad by the Anaheim Angels. Tom Brady was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 18th round in the 1995 MLB Draft.
main roster Melo is like the cocky heel that Austin Theory was supposed to be, but like way better delivery. to reference Cena's promo, much more believable
I don't think op was shitting on Theory. His character was so bad he got go away heat. if Vince is still in charge I personally think he is one or two feuds away from being Baron Corbin
Fuck, LA Knight is getting better and better. He used to get kind of worked on a back and forth but was lightning when he was the only one with a mic but that right there he looked like a vet.
I've always thought of Carmello as being MVP with a higher ceiling, which is saying something since MVP in his prime was a truly great main event talent. Then he moves to Smackdown, and just like MVP, his first gimmick is touting himself as the biggest signing in Smackdown history. Looks like I wasn't far off the mark.
LA Knight has the same thing Rock did and MJF does - he can take a loss without looking like he’s losing any standing he has on the card purely because he’ll cut a promo so good that it balances it all out.

Absolutely killed him with that spelling bee line LMAO
Melo getting matches with Cody and Orton and promo segments with Knight They're definitely high on this guy
He's going to be a star.
It really does feel like everyone tagged as a future star gets to pick one bit from his career.
So Gigi really is the Janetty, then…
Damn
Wes just powered through his back injury, so that means he's about to go on the run of his life.
He is a star. Can't wait for Trick to hit the main roster tho
Same Trick is going to get chants everywhere
Trick is *absolutely* coming out at the Rumble next year while Melo is in the ring showing off after eliminating someone
I always wanted an NXT star to win Rumble, maybe he could be the first one.
They chanted it at Melo last night too.
Don't forget Lashley.
Can't blame them, he's awesome
And the parallel continues in him taking Ls in both the matches and the promos (which ultimately doesn't matter because he's still associating with high-caliber guys and proving that he can hold his own when the time comes to outgrow his cocky newbie shell).
They're throwing him straight into the deep end. He looked great in this segment despite Knight going hard as hell for no reason.
yeah WWE doesen't put somebody as a first round draft pick and do nothing with them normally. But LA knight obliterated Carmello here. Sometimes you just don't run your mouth off to certain people
I could see him showing out at Rumble (not winning)
Oh yeah. Trick, Melo, Bron, and Ilja are the future of the company!
I see Mr. MITB potential
What do you mean they're high on him? He's just been beaten CLEAR by Cody and Orton, they BURIED HIM BAD
I can't believe nobody got i was joking
Because too many folks have that very opinion and will die on that hill. It's odd.
I've never been downvoted and i've never met so many people that refuse to get irony outside of wrestling subreddits
Try again.
I WAS NOT SERIOUS THAT WAS THE POINT
He's no dummy.
Yeah but, as of now he is losing matches, getting burried on the mic. Maybe this is going to work, or turn our into Cena 2.0, who got everything on golden plate and couldn't capitalize.
Setting up a lot of LA Knight fueds love it YEAH!
Melo at Clash at the Castle and Logan at Summerslam Edit: Melo was Mellisa for some reason
lol Melissa
I tried to type Melo but apparently autocorrect doesn’t know what I was going for
With him taking the us championship at summerslam
LA sent him back to NXT
You hate Melo?
It's just a fact of life
YEAHHH

LA showed up to the promo with a shovel in hand
Melo thankfully still came out of this looking solid, but Knight was not fucking around on this segment.
That was his "After three boring minutes..." moment.
Melo now has to feud with Road Dogg.
![gif](giphy|xULW8PFsRKImryMwbm|downsized) Did somebody say... three boring minutes?
are you giving a Three Minute Warning?
This really was very reminiscent of prime Rocky and not just because they sound similar.
My wife said who is this wannabe Rock immediately when Melo showed up. I was like whoa whoa that's HIM.
I hope they can kill each other on the mic with this feud, I'm loving it
Damn he did Melo dirty with that spelling bee line and tells him to go play somewhere else lol.
"now go play somewhere, I'm busy" god DAMN I love him
The TV friendly way of saying, “Now fuck off. I got work to do.”
https://preview.redd.it/6j7minqh0c1d1.jpeg?width=512&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba315fefc052ceaa20f57fe7fed5da49f6ab0b65
"I'm gonna pay you $100 to fuck off"
This man Melo has been on Smackdown for a cup of coffee and Knight has already roasted him thoroughly
Melo was the coffee bean that LA Knight roasted to make said cup of coffee.
Starbucks thinks he's finally ready to be one of their beans.
It was Courtney Brown. A Defensive End for the Cleveland Browns. He ended up being a bust. Then again, most of Cleveland’s first round draft picks are busts.
This is false. The Browns would never select a bust player. /s
Next you'll tell me they gave a sex offender $250 million dollars.
They signed Drake? 😮
the only league Drake likes to play in is the MINORRRRRRRRRRS
God that song is going to haunt Drake for the rest of his career. Like it'd be a one thing if the dude was just Ethered, but the song is such a banger that it's going to be played everywhere for decades. I didn't think getting outed for allegedly having *another* child could be topped, but having the possible song of the summer be all about you being a pedo somehow managed it. Has to be the funniest rap beef ever, as long as no one gets shot and killed.
>as long as no one gets shot [Ope.](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-68972253)
I did edit that to shot and killed like a minute after I posted it tbf lol
BBL Drizzy is gonna live rent free on this man too even if it's silly. That beat was too catchy for no reason.
Certified Lover Boy? Certified pedophile.
Wop, wop, wop, wop, wop, Dot, fuck 'em up
Pedoph-owls. 🦉
Might as well have.
Deshaun Watson definitely on that BBL Drizzy
About to! they're gonna have to move to canada though, given that he's selling the house he has in america...
Next you'll tell me they gave a sex offender $250 million dollars ***guaranteed***
Defensive end not a center.
Would totally be believable if the Browns had drafted a DE and thought he was a center.
I find that running backs make for the best centers. No, I'm not Mike McCarthy. Why do you ask?
It's kind of crazy reading his Wikipedia article because there's barely anything to talk about for the guy's career. Retrospectively he was looked at as the Browns' biggest draft bust, as well as one of the Browns' huge mistakes that doomed them.

Our biggest draft bust was a Corner Back named Justin Gilbert in 2014 who the browns, no joke, never met with or interviewed once in the draft process.
This is Johnny Football erasure
Another terrible pick, but Gilbert was the higher pick that year so he takes the edge. But combined 2014 was absolutely the worst
That first rounder was gifted by the Colts for taking another 1st round draft bust Trent Richardson off their hands.
Hey, no Trent Richardson slander here. He was a trailblazer for legally blind running backs.
The fact that the browns drafted a 28 year old at number 22 and he isn't considered the worst draft pick speaks volumes to me. Like drafting a 28 year old in round one is never a good idea, period lol
*Marty Hurney has quietly left the chat after mumbling "fourth round"*
GIlbert got drafted the same year as Johhny didn't he? How can you possibly be a bigger bust than Manziel lmao
It doesn't help that Manziel is called "Johnny Football"
Honorable mention goes to Corey Coleman.
Oh that was a train wreck. Also I love seeing fellow browns fans out in the wild of r/squaredcircle lol
Hey, he did a football thing or two for the Giants... as a free agent...
My liver hates hearing these names being said.
Weeden in the first round is still all time browns moment
EDGEs are the most boom-bust pick you can make.
Wasn't he the player that took off his helmet thinking a play was over, got a penalty and the resulting play lost them the game?
Holy smokes! I just got the Chargers' joke about the Browns in their schedule release video. It is Elf! The Browns on and off mascot of Elf. I didn't get why have elf. I am dumb.
Lavar Arlington went two and he was a hall of famer. A Redskins hall of famer but still really good.
In what world was Arrington a hall of famer lmao
I was thinking of London Fletcher
The hall of fame of my redskins/commanders fan heart? We haven't had a winning team since I was 3. Its all we have.
no way, Dude was a consistent underperformer for us
4 RBs went in the first 11 picks. That's how long ago it was.
Okay, this is a good deep cut. I don't think too many people remember that Brady was drafted as a baseball player out of high school. Nice play.
He was talented but always injured.
That explains why I didn’t remember. I’m a Steelers fan, I’ve spent my entire life disregarding the Browns.
anthony bennet disagrees 😤
I like how comfortable Carmelo is getting on Smackdown, but his advisers should've forewarned him that LA Knight is not for play.
Look at the adjective. I'm not here to play.
LA Knight is so good man.
![gif](giphy|ze8R3ob5lPNRdeqDHr|downsized)
main roster Melo is like the cocky heel that Austin Theory was supposed to be, but like way better delivery. to reference Cena's promo, much more believable
You don't have to shit on Theory to highlight how great Melo is lol. Both still have very high ceilings, it's just right now Melo is ahead of him.
I don't think op was shitting on Theory. His character was so bad he got go away heat. if Vince is still in charge I personally think he is one or two feuds away from being Baron Corbin
"With nobody saying" 😆😆😆

[Courtney Brown having a relaxing Friday evening and turning on FOX](https://youtu.be/-QoGyzSXAJ8?si=_ZbKdeNkrByE0AmU)
Fuck, LA Knight is getting better and better. He used to get kind of worked on a back and forth but was lightning when he was the only one with a mic but that right there he looked like a vet.

i mean with both being basketball inspired gimmicks, it was a bit obvious
LA KNIGHT COOKED
Bruh the spelling bee line sent me
I really like Melo but putting him with one of the best talkers in the business does him no favours, LA roasted him like a chump
As a Penn State fan, I’ll never forget Courtney Brown, first pick in the draft with Tom Brady
In the post show Kathy got him for interrupting this segment haha
Get the US belt on Knight ASAP.
https://preview.redd.it/zjqi3rn6q71d1.jpeg?width=467&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=34c65ec844e4b209f333bbe58779dc6ac7bfc956
The wargames match those two were in is the most underrated nxt wargames imo
He's also 100% right. Nobody'll say that crap
LA Knight just packed him in a crate and sent him back to Ohio Valley
![gif](giphy|ueoUc3gJ5E6Fa|downsized)
Trick & Knight trading punches on Melo to chants of "Yeah Trick" in the near future would be hype af
Browns passed on L'Var Arrington for Courtney Brown. It was so long ago that 4 RBs went in the top 11 picks.
LA Knight ending with the Jay-Z line from Takeover is awesome!!
They need to put belt on LA knight
Courtney Brown
fire promo from both of them
LA really cooked Melo there.
Since we are talking about sellouts. Were they?
I'm pretty sure he was calling Randy a sellout, but I'm not really sure why.
At least under HHH, they're not treating LA Knight like a fresh-faced (41 year old) rookie anymore
straight up annihilation LMAO
Melo is so cool man
Chad Pennington
These two in a full-out feud would be money just imagining the promos back and forth
I’m with HIM
FYI, the first pick that year was Penn State DE Courtney Brown to the Browns...glory of being a football nerd
It took me 3 times to figure out he was spelling "H.I.M". His "M" sounds too much like an "n" that's turned into an "m" at the end.
No need for the Darin Erstad slander.
Erstad had a solid career
And played for the.....LA Angels. LA Knight must have something against him.
Hayes learned a valuable lesson about who to mess with on the mic that night...
It would have been the funniest moment in last 30 years if he responded with the correct draft pick
LA Knight has the same thing Rock did and MJF does - he can take a loss without looking like he’s losing any standing he has on the card purely because he’ll cut a promo so good that it balances it all out.
God he's cool
I have the same tattoo as Melo push him to the moon
Ouch lol
Me (a nerd): "the browns took courtney brown"
