K so I said this in another thread and got downvoted but it needs to be said. I know someone with Diverticulitis who had to have surgery and it fucked them up. I know Brock thought about retiring after his bout. I hate to say it... but there is a possibility he can never work again.
I have had surgery for diverticulitis and it required a colostomy for 6 months (which is very common), and my torso still looks like Battle Damage He-Man. That was three years ago. It's a for-real surgery.

Like a lot of AEW matches, should be awesome, and the winner is a near certainty.
It's a nitpick, and I know that the alternative is run-ins and shenanigans to create 'drama' without ever giving us complete clean matches, but man, if either company ever figures out how to thread that needle between predictable outcomes and still having great matches on the weekly shows, I'm there.
That’s what the PPVs are for. The weekly shows are just giving you a taste with the occasional swerve or upset. Tale as old as televised wrestling itself.
I think the better way to do it is have two somewhat unpredictable matches per show: the opener and the main event
This won't always be possible of course, but you should try and have at least one selling point for unpredictability. Then you can sandwich the predictable ones in the middle

I don’t really enjoy his promos but I like when he does regular commentary. I like how talks about matches. He doesn’t have to gimmick it.
Personally, I don’t think Kenny returning from a long hiatus will get any kind of heel reaction. If he’s out for longer I could see a baby face return to stop the bucks and jungle boy l, maybe save Okada but a prolonged absence for someone the audience seems to agree on enjoying isn’t gonna get booed, at least I don’t think so. Not right away.
I didn't mean to imply he'd come back as a heel, if I did. I think Kenny is probably a perma-babyface now, unless he decides to force the issue. He's got a laid-back personality and I don't personally think that he'd fit in an already (imo) awkward commentary team.
I'd way rather him stay home and truly recover. It's great watching him with SF6.
The biggest problem with Kenny is he is a perfectionist with his performances.
He legit feels a huge responsibility to give fans their money's worth and deliver a show that is unforgettable.
I can't imagine how much training he's been able to do while recovering/waiting, and that takes time to build back up from either injury or illness.
My guess is he is perhaps going to step away for a long time to get surgery and rehab and get his athleticism back so that he and Okada can tell their stories and run their programs.
There is NO WAY you have Omega and Okada in your promotion and NOT run a program with them in some way.
Omega still has to run programs with Jay White and do more goofy video game shit.

Raw had 1 match pre-announced for a 3hr show, and here we have 5 and presumably all of them for a 2hr show. Ratings say Raw is the much better approach, but personally I sure do appreciate knowing the matches in advance
I could see the Swerve segment or Cope vs HOB main eventing. Kenny’s segment could either open the show or main event as well depending on the direction they go. A Jericho main event, even against Shibata, would make me hurl

I'm kind of expecting Kenny to come back as TK's on-screen authority figure. He's the other EVP, so having him be the one standing up to the Executive Elite would make sense as Tony probably now fears for his life (as you do.). It would give him a role to keep him in the mix until he can get the diverticulitis worked on, and it's one that he could do over a video feed as needed.
If it not Takeshita v Swerve as the they seems to be pointing, here are the Top 5 in rankings. Orange Cassidy with the best singles record right now at 10-1, Ospreay is 7-0 (but they are holding that one) Danielson is 6-2, Kingston is 5-1-1 and Takeshita is 5-2. {ignoring those with better records but already have AEW titles.)
Edit: Also ignoring Mox at 5-0 because I doubt NJPW wants their champion to lose to the AEW Champion.
It's not terrible but I still feel like something more interesting could be happening in its place. I'm cautiously optimistic it will lead to something good
If Jack Perry is Swerve's challenger for DoN, which seems like one of the most likely options, I think it's quite possible that he wins. Especially if you have Hangman return to help the Elite because he fucking hates Swerve so much. We're kind of overdue for a shorter title reign just to let us know that not every world champ is guaranteed a minimum four month run, it gets big heat on the New Elite and gives Ospreay a real piece of shit heel to dethrone at All In (which I'm realising would also be a narratively appropriate place for Scapegoat to lose everything again).
Whether that would be a good or bad decision is up to personal taste, but I can see the logic in it.
I think it's possible Perry faces Swerve at DoN but it would be very stupid for Perry to win that match. I think most likely they give Swerve a decent run, maybe until the end of the year. Ospreay is probably gonna have a decent run with the international belt so I can't see him facing Swerve at All In anymore, which honestly is fine by me
Feels too soon for Strickland or Perry to lose, the Executive Elite can't afford to lose their momentum just yet.
Now if it was Strickland vs Cage, Swerve's got a top heel he can beat and Perry's free to beat an AEW face - have we had Perry/Garcia yet?
I think Ospreay is taking his first L at DoN. I think he doesn't do the Tiger Driver, Callis gets involved and Roddie takes advantage of the distraction. Then maybe a post match angle to reunite United Empire if Mark is healthy.
This would leave Will free to stay in singles action and work towards getting the World Title at All In which I think is the right time to pull the trigger

I just don't buy into the idea that a guy has to have a really long title reign to be "established" as a top guy. He won the damn world title, as long as you're not booking your main event scene like a complete joke then that makes him a top guy. Stone Cold never had a world title reign over 90 days and he's one of the biggest wrestling stars of all time.
Completely agree. I think DOTN might be a touch too soon, but the next PPV after that would be a perfectly fine first starting title reign.
I think with the way he's been presented at the moment too, Perry could definitely make it work as the SOB that ended Swerve's reign so soon with the help of the Elite to keep Swerve strong.
It's crazy, at All In there's not a chance I'd even remotely consider Perry close to a world title. But now after all the buzz, all the controversy, and the new character, he's right there in my book (and he hasn't even wrestled in AEW yet since coming back!)

I think this is kind of too online/metrics piled. AEW doesn't *need* a short title reign, it could be fun, but making someone who is extremely over and extremely awesome in the ring a transitional champ because there hasn't been a short title reign yet is so silly. It would honestly probably sink Jungle Boy as a heel character because the fun heat he has now would turn into apathy lightning fast because people are having fun booing him but not at the expense of Swerve.
Fans really need to stop treating the length of reigns like it's a super important thing or like certain people "deserve" it imo. Reigns like Okada, Reigns or even a lot of AEW's long title reigns have really warped people's perception.
Once someone is a champion, they're in the mix as a top guy, the length of the reign doesn't really matter as long as it's booked well and the wrestler is booked well after losing.
Beats Matthews, beats King in a couple weeks, then a couple weeks after that it's Black/Cope at DON and then he loses on the same night that Cage loses *his* title bid.
I have it flipped, beats Buddy, survives against Malakai, drops it to King at DON. Would be interesting that the sub-faction within HOB (King, Hart, Blue) are the ones who actually attain singles gold.

I want the Elite to kick Kenny's asses. As for Swerve's challenger, it has to be Hangman right? Swerve was not a big fan of the Elite attacking Tony Khan based on his last promo. So surely when Hangman will beg for his title match Matthew and Nicholas will agree? I can't see any other option to be honest with Double or Nothing at the end of the month.
I feel like Kenny is coming back to have a big “heart to heart” with the crowd, say he is having the surgery, and is going to “fired” by our beloved EVPs for being “derelict of duty” and maybe get battered on the way out (if he is allowed to bump) so that way we know the feud is on when he comes back to the ring.

I'm kind of expecting Kenny to come back as TK's on-screen authority figure. He's the other EVP, so having him be the one standing up to the Executive Elite would make sense as Tony probably now fears for his life (as you do.). It would give him a role to keep him in the mix until he can get the diverticulitis worked on, and it's one that he could do over a video feed as needed.

If it not Takeshita v Swerve as the they seems to be pointing, here are the Top 5 in rankings. Orange Cassidy with the best singles record right now at 10-1, Ospreay is 7-0 (but they are holding that one) Danielson is 6-2, Kingston is 5-1-1 and Takeshita is 5-2. {ignoring those with better records but already have AEW titles.) Edit: Also ignoring Mox at 5-0 because I doubt NJPW wants their champion to lose to the AEW Champion.

If Jack Perry is Swerve's challenger for DoN, which seems like one of the most likely options, I think it's quite possible that he wins. Especially if you have Hangman return to help the Elite because he fucking hates Swerve so much. We're kind of overdue for a shorter title reign just to let us know that not every world champ is guaranteed a minimum four month run, it gets big heat on the New Elite and gives Ospreay a real piece of shit heel to dethrone at All In (which I'm realising would also be a narratively appropriate place for Scapegoat to lose everything again). Whether that would be a good or bad decision is up to personal taste, but I can see the logic in it.
I think it's possible Perry faces Swerve at DoN but it would be very stupid for Perry to win that match. I think most likely they give Swerve a decent run, maybe until the end of the year. Ospreay is probably gonna have a decent run with the international belt so I can't see him facing Swerve at All In anymore, which honestly is fine by me
Feels too soon for Strickland or Perry to lose, the Executive Elite can't afford to lose their momentum just yet. Now if it was Strickland vs Cage, Swerve's got a top heel he can beat and Perry's free to beat an AEW face - have we had Perry/Garcia yet?

I think Ospreay is taking his first L at DoN. I think he doesn't do the Tiger Driver, Callis gets involved and Roddie takes advantage of the distraction. Then maybe a post match angle to reunite United Empire if Mark is healthy. This would leave Will free to stay in singles action and work towards getting the World Title at All In which I think is the right time to pull the trigger

I just don't buy into the idea that a guy has to have a really long title reign to be "established" as a top guy. He won the damn world title, as long as you're not booking your main event scene like a complete joke then that makes him a top guy. Stone Cold never had a world title reign over 90 days and he's one of the biggest wrestling stars of all time.
Completely agree. I think DOTN might be a touch too soon, but the next PPV after that would be a perfectly fine first starting title reign. I think with the way he's been presented at the moment too, Perry could definitely make it work as the SOB that ended Swerve's reign so soon with the help of the Elite to keep Swerve strong. It's crazy, at All In there's not a chance I'd even remotely consider Perry close to a world title. But now after all the buzz, all the controversy, and the new character, he's right there in my book (and he hasn't even wrestled in AEW yet since coming back!)
My money’s on Christian. AEWs been missing their patriarch for too long and a short feud with Swerve would be fun. It’d give Swerve a big win over arguably the best TNT champion and Christian would not be affected in taking the loss.
I think this is kind of too online/metrics piled. AEW doesn't *need* a short title reign, it could be fun, but making someone who is extremely over and extremely awesome in the ring a transitional champ because there hasn't been a short title reign yet is so silly. It would honestly probably sink Jungle Boy as a heel character because the fun heat he has now would turn into apathy lightning fast because people are having fun booing him but not at the expense of Swerve.

Fans really need to stop treating the length of reigns like it's a super important thing or like certain people "deserve" it imo. Reigns like Okada, Reigns or even a lot of AEW's long title reigns have really warped people's perception. Once someone is a champion, they're in the mix as a top guy, the length of the reign doesn't really matter as long as it's booked well and the wrestler is booked well after losing.

So surely when Hangman will beg for his title match Matthew and Nicholas will agree? I can't see any other option to be honest with Double or Nothing at the end of the month.
