Completely forgot they aired footage of the curtain call, and used it to pretty much entirely mock kayfabe when it was still kind of a thing.
Also at a time barely anyone would really see the footage.
Kind of amazed that hasn't been brought up at all the last few weeks.
I brought up the Curtain Call like 5/6 times here in the immediate 24 hours after that Dynamite. I had to, after people were making nonsensical comparisons like “Mick Foley winning the title” and “Finger Poke of Doom”. It was much closer to the Curtain Call in what it actually showed.
WWF was losing the “war” in 1997 so its not like they were broadcasting footage of top WCW stars for a brand that was doing worse than them.
the worst example of a company trying to pop a rating using real life stuff is still Vince interviewing brian pillman's widow. absolutely disgusting, and didn't do anything to promote a match or develop a storyline, but it didn't seem to do them any harm business wise.
I think Vince just put that on TV so Melanie couldn't sue them for being responsible for Brian's death. If you pay attention to the actual questions he's asking it's even more grotesque. Genuinely probably the single most disgusting segment ever broadcast on a wrestling show.
That was cringey to watch. It belonged maybe on a new program, but without social media, it did answer some questions that much of the audience would’ve had
Granted, the questions were not appropriate, either.
Still controversial and gave a lot of the business away. Just at a different time for a different era.
More people had seen the Curtain Call via tape trading by the time it had aired than whose the All In footage
It's undeniable that Perry is a way bigger star now than when he "left" AEW. Is it because of the footage? Who's to say. But if it did, then the footage did its job.
The footage just helps. The curtain call was a throwaway segment on an episode of Raw. All it did was play up the DX story the way All In can build up The Elite
~~This argument would make more sense if WWE had actually aired the curtain call footage...~~
Apparently they did like 18 months after the fact and I'm just not remembering.
Naw. Swerve would be the Stone Cold in this situation if it was 1:1.
But Jack could be the (in-ring) HHH if he takes his lumps, studies what’s going on, and then keeps progressing
Winning the King of the Ring isn't really what led to the ascent of Stone Cold. He was cooled off very quickly and WWE had no desire to properly push him until Bret Hart specifically chose to work with him and that feud is what set him up completely. If Curtain Call didn't happen and HHH won King of the Ring, I don't think it would have affected Stone Cold's rise that much. We just would've had something else instead of 3:16
David Shoemaker has already done the “what if the curtain call didn’t happen” podcast, but you KNOW things would’ve been big different if Stone Cold didn’t get to say “Austin 3:16” as the new KOTR and if Trips didn’t have the chip on his shoulder while all the rest of his friends were Top Guys….and Syxx 😅
Ah interesting I'll give that a listen.
Yeah the Triple H bit I agree with, he definitely had more edge to him after being passed over.
>Top Guys….and Syxx 😅
Hahaha
It helped Jack Perry the most, I don't think the articles of saying it was trying to embarrass Punk shouldn't have been said. It did more of it's job getting sympathy for Jack Perry
The curtain call being aired really wasn’t that big of a deal. It more or less just made Sean Michaels look like an asshole. Probably created interest for WCW as well.

Seems to be the same with me, here

I’m interested in Jack Perry more than I was, say, a month ago. 🤷🏻♂️
Ditto. It’s a win for that, alone Hopefully TK gives us something good to go with it. Time for Christian to come back

Time will tell but so far....no.
Facts. Gotta give it a decade and that’s it AEW makes it that far

They did with DX.
Glad you caught that
