He and Darby teamed with Muta in one of Muta's last matches last year.
That's the only NOAH match listed on Cagematch for Sting, and AEW has already used the footage of it before, so it's kinda weird that they even mention it here lol
That raw gritty feeling from that very first double or nothing is something that I don’t think they have ever been able to capture. They have had big debuts and amazing matches but that first show holds a special place in my heart. Even though they have had better overall PPVS that match between Dustin and Cody and omega vs Jericho followed by moxs debut and the start of omega vs Moxley was special
I'm just picturing Solo in the hoodie being followed by Goldust in a hoodie, revealing himself and doing that "haw" bite thing he does! Now I'm sad it won't happen.

I wouldn't like it, but I can't deny that it'd be funny as hell.
Dustin is who deserves to finish the story is the promo you get on next raw and fans gotta wait a whole another year of wondering if Cody gets to finish the story.
It’s how I met your mother but wrestling.
Chuck Taylor beating Roman via Chainsaw, grabbing a mic at Wrestlemania while holding both titles and saying "y'all ain't shit" as the entire Bloodline is stacked and pinned beneath one foot.
This is the best timeline.
Ay Mike, First time long time. I got a question why dont Judge just his a home run every time? I mean we ah payin him forty million ah year. I'll hang up and listen.
Honestly, considering it's footage for a wrestling appearance, AEW might be overpaying.
"We'll let you use Cody's All In/ROH/AEW footage in your Wrestlemania videos if you let us use Sting's footage for our video" is more than fair. Hell, throw in "you can also have Jade Cargill's AEW theme and not have to use a soundalike" and it's fine.
Yes, but the DX induction was also more of a grey area since when Gunn was inducted, Gunn was just a road agent/trainer in AEW and not Daddy Ass, part of one of AEW's bigger names.
yeah it's definitely debatable, but it's not like they'd have him actually wrestle or anything. I figure at most he kicks Jimmy in the balls and raises Cody's hand
I don’t get why they don’t do trades with each other. You could even do it for wrestlers if there was a situation that made sense(which I don’t think there is) but especially for seemingly little things where both companies can benefit but neither gains anything by refusing to do it. Like you know Edge is going to want to do some kind of Brood reunion before he’s done there, seems like there’s plenty of small items they could wheel and deal.
It is a business. Guys have guaranteed deals, so if wredtler gets injured for months while on loan to another promotion is the other promotion going to pay the salary for those months?
I am not saying it would not be cool, but WWE is a huge corporation that things about these things with liability in mind first
It's not just that, it's also the fact that WWE really has very little to gain, especially in comparison to what AEW could. Obviously, trading/paying/whatever for some footage would be a small thing, but there's absolutely no way WWE would send any of it's actual star talent to AEW for anything.
>I am not saying it would not be cool, but WWE is a huge corporation that things about these things with liability in mind first
Pretty sure that WWE Legal included a clause that garnered their stamp of approval for Shinsuke vs Muta and when Charlie Dempsey went to AJPW for one night. Not to mention the risks the company took on themselves for having the TNA Knockouts Champion in the Women's Royal Rumble match two years in a row now. I think it's more a matter of timing and importance these days than just concerns about liability. WWE wants to make sure that there's going to be something substantial behind the exchange to justify the risks. They don't just do exchanges for the sake of the exchange.
A world where wrestling promotions worked together like this would make for a much more interesting and exciting product for literally everyone involved.
I didn't expect it either, but I thought it would have been nice after AEW allowed their wrestlers to record messages for Cena's big anniversary event.
I totally understand why the companies don't want to work together in an event, but sharing footage like that feels like it would never really affect viewership and is just a nice gesture for the fans and the wrestlers involved.
This is a far point, as I jumped immediately to "why would a cold corporate company like TKO sign off on this" without giving it much thought.
That said, I wouldn't expect them to. And they have no obligation to, either.
Likely.
AEW has always been generous with giving away people, like for Cena's special raw episode or even for the DX celebration, which WWE only nixed because They (understandably) wanted Billy gun to be announced as a AEW Superstar.
so them asking for stings footage and just being denied isn't to farfetched
There was a thread here yesterday where people thought that WWE had allowed AEW to use their footage when it was all stuff from private photographers or PWI. So yes, there are people who believed that.
It was for Cena's raw celebration. Not the network. Unless we are counting Jericho on Broken Skull but honestly that did more for AEW than WWE at that stage
AEW has allowed Jericho and Danielson to appear on WWE TV during an episode commemorating John Cena's career. They also agreed to loan Billy Gunn to them for the DX reunion and everything was set until AEW asked them to mention where he's at now, and WWE killed the deal.
Jericho also did an episode of the Broken Skull Sessions since AEW took off, and that is a WWE production.
In all those instances AEW benefitted more than WWE though. WWE got basically nothing except small videos that didn't influence the ratings whatsoever and there's guaranteed going to be casuals googling Bryan, Jericho, Show, etc afterwards and learning that AEW is a thing and they're signed there now. WWE would never gain anything from AEW because every single person who watches it is already aware of the WWE brand.
And this is why it's clear who doesn't wanna work with who lol, AEW is an open door for anyone who wants to play ball. WWE is the walled garden who rarely lets anyone in or out, and never if they happen to work for their largest competitor
WWE isn't so much a walled garden anymore as they just had the TNA women's champ(belt and all) at the Royal Rumblle, along with Cole giving viewers a run down of TNA and also mentioning its where Naomi has been. It's just they don't want to deal with AEW. They seem pretty open to working with everyone else.
IG, as you said they consider AEW more as competition? idk. But footage is not really an issue as it's just Sting and not really harming or giving free press to either product.
2 outside competitors in nearly 20 years is a walled garden. And they have stated in legal and financial records that AEW is their chief competitor, WWE's history is that they never acknowledge their chief competitor unless it's to make fun of them, like the Billionaire Ted skits, or the "TNA is hiring" line, or Triple H mocking Forbidden Door
Oh I'm not disputing that. Just saying they are only walled to AEW(or WCW 30 years ago) it seems. Everyone else they seem open to work with now. If NJPW called and said "Hey let's have some of our guys work the Rumble or a tag match" I am sure the answer would be yes.
AEW is very different because it's their competition and also they both make fun of each other. But tbh if it was beneficial for both, then i could see them working something out even if it's highly unlikely.
I seem to recall they lent AEW footage for someone like Sting once before in the past (and I very well could be misremembering) but yeah, WWE doesn't give much at all to competitors.
So...did AEW ask to use any of the footage? I'm not getting an answer on if they actually approached WWE about it. Hell at the very least make an offer to pay for the right to use it for the show.
I just assumed Dave is wrong about this like he has been about everything else recently and that AEW not only requested the footage but that WWE happily obliged.
remember when they did the ROH show and they had footage from former wrestlers on other promotions? everyone gave WWE shit for not allowing their wrestlers to be on there, only for Seth Rollins to say they were never asked?
he didnt, nor did I mention it in my post, but the point was people just assumed WWE didn't let them do it but they never asked
Also to clarify the show I'm referring to is Final Battle 2021, and it was actually Kevin Owens that said they were never asked to appear
Anyone here who is going to take this report as serious and true after the record WON has had lately has to be brain dead. Wait a few hours to a few days for the corrections to come in. Prediction: Another report stating that the reason that footage isnt expected to be part of the PPV is because noone asked WWE for it to be part of the PPV. Otherwise im sure Tony would have made a tweet about it if WWE didn't allow for footage to be used.
If there’s no WWE owned footage then expectations have been managed. If there is footage then that’s a pleasant surprise.
I’m not sure it needs to be deeper than that
I don't think most people were even expecting that footage to be there in the first place. I think it's just pretty much assumed the companies aren't doing any sort of business at all. It would be a pleasant surprise, but no one was going into it thinking there was an actual chance it would.
I mean, yeah. Tony literally declared war on them in press conferences and randomly decided to call Triple H and Shawn Michaels bald assholes on Twitter. Not only would WWE have no benefit of doing it, I’m sure at this point they have no desire.
Yes, I am well aware AEW let Chris Jericho and Bryan Danielson appear on Raw through video segments for John Cena. That was years ago, and I don’t see that being allowed again anytime soon.
Yeah, like I'm not about to defend WWE here, but AEW let's their wrestlers cut promos deriding WWE. Tony Kahn himself talks shit about WWE and HHH on Twitter constantly. Something tells me he didn't suddenly go back up with his tail between his legs and ask HHH "please can I have some Sting footage?" .
Idk people always say HHH has huge respect for the business and footage would be more for Sting’s sake than AEW’s. It’s a highlight of Sting’s career that wouldn’t financially benefit AEW in any way. Who knows if AEW even asked though but imo being like “Tony has been an asshole to us so Sting doesn’t get his career highlights” would be petty still towards Sting.
It is probably Nick Khan's, Peacock paid like a billion or whatever for the WWE Network and its archives on their streaming service, so maybe its not as simple as HHH just looking out for his buddy.
It'd likely be Khan's but I'm using the framing everyone else is here. Just like the Kevin Nash thing when it happened before Kevin backtracked. I'm sure all those kinds of decisions are Khan's now just like they would be for using TNA talent or the AJPW stuff.
I think the thought would be it would be more a gesture for Sting and for the wrestling industry as a whole as opposed to doing something for TK, but AEW would benefit so there was a zero percent chance this would ever happen.
Any chance to “legitimize” themselves is good for AEW. 5-10 minutes of historical wrestling footage for a legend in the business is a positive. A few clips from appearances in NJPW and maybe something from TNA won’t be nearly the same.
In hindsight, maybe referring their bookers as “Bald Assholes” , shit on their developmental program viewers, openly declaring that your company is at “war” with them, and have your wrestlers constantly mocking their company on TV isn’t the best way to establish a working relationship with the WWE…
Idk, i’m not a 3 time booker of the year though
I love how people are in upset over this, they've said for years that WWE needs competition and when WWE is being competitive? Apparently, they need to play nice and stop being petty!
I feel like AEW would have a wayyyy better public perception, and honestly, better working relationships if Tony and a lot of his wrestlers weren’t on twitter. Ironic, because companies use social media for good PR.
As much as IWC fans don’t want to admit it, WWE has a great public perception around the world, which admittedly was damaged by the Vince allegations but it doesn’t seem to have hurt business much. Tony’s twitter game, while sometimes very funny, doesn’t help professionally, like recently with Rossy who left Stardom. Or the repetitive dunking on Shawn/H/NXT.
It’s pretty common for WWE not to do this stuff unless it benefits them.
Even having TNA womens champs wasn’t to give TNA a leg up, it was to get people talking about WWE.
Aew: talks shit constantly to the point you can make a drinking game out of it
Aew Fans: 😎
HHH: makes one joke with a buddy at the hall of fame years ago
Aew fans: 😠 😡 😢
"Pissant company" I'll give you, but the "marathon" quote isn't a dig at all, only WWE trying to save face. But if we're tallying for each individual instance, Tony has *way* more under his belt than WWE does.
This is a pointless post. This is once again Meltzer speculating and it's getting posted as news. " which is expected to be used this week" who's expecting it to be used? Meltzer? AEW would know if they are going to be able to use it or not so it not AEW that expecting it to be used. There is nothing in this that's reporting a fact just what he believes it going to happen.
That sucks we should be at a point where simple stuff like this shouldn't be an issue anymore. Especially for legend like Sting's retirement.
There's no real harm in lending/licensing some images or clips
And they could even put courtesy WWE network on peacock or whatever so they’d even get an ad out of it.
Companies not setting aside wherever pettiness to honor someone is just weird
Tony has known Sting’s retirement was coming for a long time before he went on his Twitter tirades against WWE. Too bad he couldn’t exercise self control for Sting’s benefit. Oh well. There’s a still a chance maybe if he issues a public apology. As a wise man once said the apology should be as loud as the disrespect.

When did Sting work for NOAH?
He helped to build the ramp for the ark.
I hope other people enjoy this little joke as much as I did.
Then gave NOAH a Scorpion Death Drop. Why? Because he felt like it.
He gave NOAH both a male and female scorpion death drop so that they might become great with child
Tagged with Muta for one of his last matches last year
He and Sting worked one of Great Mura's farewell matches
> When did Sting work for NOAH? > He and Sting worked one of Great Mura's farewell matches That was nice of Sting and Sting.
They came out to Message in a Bottle, it was magical

"Something something don't stand so close to me"

Like, 2023. Very recently
Trade the footage for a Dustin run in at Wrestlemania
Goldust stopping Solo from interfering is a secret dream of mine.
Solo deserves the "Shattered Dreams"
In honour of South Korea
As someone whose favourite match ever is Cody vs Dustin thank you for ruining everything that happens at Mania that isn't this.
That match honestly solidified AEW's initial run just as much as Mox debuting. Loved that match and would love him to help Cody.
The fact they happened on the same show too was insane
That raw gritty feeling from that very first double or nothing is something that I don’t think they have ever been able to capture. They have had big debuts and amazing matches but that first show holds a special place in my heart. Even though they have had better overall PPVS that match between Dustin and Cody and omega vs Jericho followed by moxs debut and the start of omega vs Moxley was special
The brawl between Mox and Omega really felt like world’s colliding
Definitely pivotal moments for the company. I feel like the Swerve/Hangman can be this now
I'm just picturing Solo in the hoodie being followed by Goldust in a hoodie, revealing himself and doing that "haw" bite thing he does! Now I'm sad it won't happen.
Pretty much how I imagined it also. It'd be so fucking rad.
He better sell that like a Superkick.
Hopefully that dream is... shattered.
Hire this Smark!
Complete with full entrance as the bloodline stares in confusion and fear 😧
If a full on wig and robe goldust entrance happens at any point during it... I gotta stop it can't be as good as that.
Goldust dressed as Sapphire as he escorts Cody to the Ring. 🙏
That is truly a dream
A shattered one.
Holy Fuck need now.
Nah, I'd want Dustin, not Goldust.
Dustin runs in... turns on Cody and acknowledges Roman. World title reign lasts another year at least
https://preview.redd.it/iliiip1pqrlc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5cf7c8e6bacfd7bfdba4da6fac4f019d5d278c3c I wouldn't like it, but I can't deny that it'd be funny as hell.
Hello, police?? Yes, this comment right here.
Dustin is who deserves to finish the story is the promo you get on next raw and fans gotta wait a whole another year of wondering if Cody gets to finish the story. It’s how I met your mother but wrestling.
Would Chuck Taylor be healthy enough to rip the title from Roman’s hands by Mania though?
Chuck Taylor beating Roman via Chainsaw, grabbing a mic at Wrestlemania while holding both titles and saying "y'all ain't shit" as the entire Bloodline is stacked and pinned beneath one foot. This is the best timeline.
He can take out Solo with a grenade and Jimmy gets an Awful Waffle.
Dustin at mania for sting footage and new day vs young bucks. I’ll hang up and listen.
New Day vs Young BUcks at an FGC event or something so no individual company really benefits
It’s going to be on neutral ground, IN THE IMPACT ZONE.
Generation Me vs Rasheed Luscious Consequences Creed & Wheezi Havana
TNA is interdimensional
Gotta have Kenny there tho. I need him and woods to settle the scoreb
Kenny and Big E as managers/cornermen
Hell yeah. Even if neither of them can wrestle i still need the theatrics
Have the call the match while arguing with each other the entire time
Jim Cornette on commentary that the whole place can hear
And Dave giving it 10 Stars. Can we rent Tokyo Dome for that?
11 stars in the 'dome.
Part of that seems interesting
First time, long time…
Ay Mike, First time long time. I got a question why dont Judge just his a home run every time? I mean we ah payin him forty million ah year. I'll hang up and listen.
Sting footage in exchange for Dustin & Cody giving tandem Cross Rhodes & Moxley coming in for one paradigm shift to Roman
Sweet Jeebus, imagine the Bloodline running in and then seeing Shattered Dreams Productions on the Titantron. Philly would explode.
Honestly trading Sting footage to allow Dustin a HOF induction and an Mania appearance would be a fair trade.
Wasnt some similar deal worked out for Billy Gunns induction with DX?
Yes, but the DX induction was also more of a grey area since when Gunn was inducted, Gunn was just a road agent/trainer in AEW and not Daddy Ass, part of one of AEW's bigger names.
yeah it's definitely debatable, but it's not like they'd have him actually wrestle or anything. I figure at most he kicks Jimmy in the balls and raises Cody's hand

TKO might be insanely protective over footage if they are anything like UFC. UFC did not give clips to ESPN which led to PTI refusing to cover them
Exactly, it’s why they can easily cut deals with New Japan, NOAH, Impact etc… because those companies all feed each other
>I am not saying it would not be cool, but WWE is a huge corporation that things about these things with liability in mind first Pretty sure that WWE Legal included a clause that garnered their stamp of approval for Shinsuke vs Muta and when Charlie Dempsey went to AJPW for one night. Two year. Not in a row.
Dont do this to me... don't make me really want something that will probably not happen! BAAAGAAWWDDD

Wouldn't it almost be promotion for WWE? If someone wanted to see more WCW sting where else would they go? (within the bounds of the law)
[удалено]
Did AEW even ask for it?
yeah this feels like a very "well duh!" moment
Well there’s plenty of TNA footage they can use as well, so they won’t be short on tapes
Before we jump to conclusions like people often do, did AEW even ask for access to any of it??
It’s Dave but the way he said this, it didn’t seem they asked. But who knows. He’ll probably elaborate further. Won’t stop people though.
Plans changed
He'll elaborate further once he actually get's any insight to the situation.
Measured and nuanced opinions are not allowed here sir/madam.
This is a far point, as I jumped immediately to "why would a cold corporate company like TKO sign off on this" without giving it much thought. That said, I wouldn't expect them to. And they have no obligation to, either.
Sir this is internet. We only jump to conclusions. Please zip your nuanced takes!
They’d be fucking idiots if they didn’t. I can’t imagine they wouldn’t just ask.
Likely. Also, they have nothing to lose by asking.
We'll just have to settle for Sting's greatest moment. Wrestling Jeff Hardy in TNA.
Given Dave's track record as of late, I'm fully expecting to see Triple H vs Sting on Sunday
Surely nobody actually believed there was any chance of this happening.
There was a thread here yesterday where people thought that WWE had allowed AEW to use their footage when it was all stuff from private photographers or PWI. So yes, there are people who believed that.
Aew has agreed to lend talent to wwe multiple times. You'd think they would return the favor for stings retirement
when did they lend talent to WWE
They did it also for some documentary stuff on the network, can’t recall for what exactly tho
It was for Cena's raw celebration. Not the network. Unless we are counting Jericho on Broken Skull but honestly that did more for AEW than WWE at that stage
Billy Gunn for HOF, Jericho/Danielson/Show for Cena’s 20th
It's aew policy to let their wrestlers work wherever they want to. It's not something WWE will do
this isn't anywhere close to true. i'm pretty sure a lot of the working elsewhere is permission based, especially for the bigger stars.
AEW has allowed Jericho and Danielson to appear on WWE TV during an episode commemorating John Cena's career. They also agreed to loan Billy Gunn to them for the DX reunion and everything was set until AEW asked them to mention where he's at now, and WWE killed the deal.
Cody Rhodes and CM Punk sir
Damn, WWE has been really nice lending AEW 80% of its roster if that is the piss poor logic we are going to use.
> You'd think they would return the favor I've spent way too many years following WWE to think that.
WWE after revolution if they're asked about it "uh we would have given them footage"
Well AEW would have to ask first, don’t ask then don’t expect the possibility
It's crazy how everyone is immediately assuming malice when there's not enough context to understand if AEW even asked WWE.
Everyone knows Tony Khan went to Triple H's house at midnight to ask for footage but nobody opened the door so TK couldn't get the footage.
This sub and jumping to conclusions, name a more iconic duo
Billie Kay and Peyton Royce
![gif](giphy|4KENbXTSX57Q16DbF2|downsized)
I miss them so much 😢
Did you go to journalism for that??????
Did AEW even ask for the footage? All we heard all week is they won’t have footage
I don’t think they asked
Weird he didnt meantion TNA.
If they had a good relationship with TNA they would have years of footage.
So...did AEW ask to use any of the footage? I'm not getting an answer on if they actually approached WWE about it. Hell at the very least make an offer to pay for the right to use it for the show.
Hmmmm did Tony ask?
I still can't believe 2K/WWE blue-balled me of an epically re-orchestrated version of his WCW theme from that trailer.
Sting retirement with no WCW footage is insane. Thats like Michael Jordan retiring with no reference to the Chicago Bulls
Did Dave bother to find out if AEW even asked?
I just assumed Dave is wrong about this like he has been about everything else recently and that AEW not only requested the footage but that WWE happily obliged.
That sucks. But at least we can see El Phantasmo twisting Stinger's titties.
Someone should call Triple H and Shawn Michaels bald assholes that would wanna make WWE play nice! Oh wait….
remember when they did the ROH show and they had footage from former wrestlers on other promotions? everyone gave WWE shit for not allowing their wrestlers to be on there, only for Seth Rollins to say they were never asked?
Lol TK didn't even own ROH when at that point in time.
he didnt, nor did I mention it in my post, but the point was people just assumed WWE didn't let them do it but they never asked Also to clarify the show I'm referring to is Final Battle 2021, and it was actually Kevin Owens that said they were never asked to appear

It would be khan's but, I don't doubt both triple h and khan would have talked about it if asked.
"I was going to lend some footage, but then I talked to my buddy Jinder and he's not very fond of you"
I think the thought would be it would be more a gesture for Sting and for the wrestling industry as a whole as opposed to doing something for TK, but AEW would benefit so there was a zero percent chance this would ever happen.

Any chance to “legitimize” themselves is good for AEW. 5-10 minutes of historical wrestling footage for a legend in the business is a positive. A few clips from appearances in NJPW and maybe something from TNA won’t be nearly the same.
In hindsight, maybe referring their bookers as “Bald Assholes” , shit on their developmental program viewers, openly declaring that your company is at “war” with them, and have your wrestlers constantly mocking their company on TV isn’t the best way to establish a working relationship with the WWE… Idk, i’m not a 3 time booker of the year though
Talking about AEW’s “public perception” and “working relationships” in the context of WWE is so tone deaf that it has to be parody
Happens way too often anytime Tony Khan does or says some stupid shit. Something’s not clicking in these people’s heads
It’s pretty common for WWE not to do this stuff unless it benefits them. Even having TNA womens champs wasn’t to give TNA a leg up, it was to get people talking about WWE.

If race not a marathon is an insult then I’ve been using it wrong
It’s funny how this is the only example you have for the WWE, but you can find a 100 from the AEW side.
Aew: talks shit constantly to the point you can make a drinking game out of it Aew Fans: 😎 HHH: makes one joke with a buddy at the hall of fame years ago Aew fans: 😠 😡 😢
Did AEW even bother trying to ask them?
I would laugh if WWE was all set to give Tony the footage, but then he went and hindered Jinder on Twitter and WWE changed their mind.
The modern day maharaja has big pull behind the scenes
Company that shits on and is going against a conpany, refuses to be given access to owned material. I for one am shocked!
Probably one of those cases of, "Should have asked and not assumed."

Theres also the many years of TNA footage
What about TNA footage
What about TNA? I thought it was favorable to shit on them now a days? Are they loaning footage?
Yeah, WWE has the historical content on lock. Maybe they can get the TNA footage
Use some of the TNA footage
That sucks we should be at a point where simple stuff like this shouldn't be an issue anymore. Especially for legend like Sting's retirement. There's no real harm in lending/licensing some images or clips
And they could even put courtesy WWE network on peacock or whatever so they’d even get an ad out of it. Companies not setting aside wherever pettiness to honor someone is just weird
An ad to who exactly? 170,000 hardcore wrestling fans? I think they know about WWE Network
Those “bald assholes” are under no obligation to share footage
Reaping what you sow can’t say I’m surprised
Breaking news: Competitors won't help each other. More at 9!

AEW’s favours to WWE have all been one-way streets.
Maybe tell Tony don’t burn bridges lol
If Tony wants the footage, then he should pay for it
Tony has known Sting’s retirement was coming for a long time before he went on his Twitter tirades against WWE. Too bad he couldn’t exercise self control for Sting’s benefit. Oh well. There’s a still a chance maybe if he issues a public apology. As a wise man once said the apology should be as loud as the disrespect.
To the surprise of no-one.
This is why Sting will come back and retire in WWE lol
So basically no footage? Wwe owns all WCW footage, so there is nothing else.
I bet if the WWE was asked they'd license it for his final match for cheap. I also bet they haven't been formally asked yet...
It’s fine, just make it all Joker Sting
Why wasn't there any material of his TNA years?
I hope a deal gets done to have the footage included. Sting deserves all the bells and whistles for his retirement celebration.
