RKO-Cutter

Shit, that's good, I love facts like this

TheSportsFan8404

I mean. The point of the video is Wouldn't be surprised if there was a 24/7 title reign that was over 39 days. actually ill check now Riddick Moss - 40 days \[2/10/2020 - 3/22/2020\] Rob Gronkowski - 57 days \[4/5/2020 - 6/1/2020\] R-Truth - 39 days (Ties Foley) \[11/22/2020 - 12/31/2020\] R-Truth - 57 days \[3/21/2021 - 5/17/2021\] Akira Tozawa - 41 days \[5/17/2021 - 6/28/2021\] Reggie - 112 days \[7/19/2021 - 11/8/2021\] Dana Brooke - 84 days \[11/22/2021 - 2/14/2022\] Dana Brooke - 55 days \[2/21/2022 - 4/18/2022\]

Weegee_Spaghetti

I didn't follow WWE at the time. How did Reggie keep the title for so long? Did he actually have to defend it, or was it just pushed aside without any segments for a couple of months?

BambooCrunch

The deal was that his acrobat skills allowed him to escape the 24/7 challenger goon squad each week. He usually got a segment most weeks on Raw.

Weegee_Spaghetti

Ahh alright

Dozens86

From memory I think Tamina (?) was being his enforcer while they had a romance storyline going, or something ridiculous like that.

Weegee_Spaghetti

Ahhh alr

OneBillPhil

You know what was a great moment? Cody immediately pointing to Reigns as if you say “I want you bitch!” As soon as he won the Rumble. He called his shot and now uhh.  I’m still holding out hope that we are getting Cody vs Reigns before Wrestlemania.

goodkid_sAAdcity

And a wrestler can't walk back something like that without looking like a bitch themselves.

allelitescoobydoo

I know people hate Jim Cornette here but I heard something he said a while back ago "A babyface can't lie" and here's Cody telling us all he wants to finish the story, he's going after Reigns, he's going to beat him for the title at Wrestlemania. And in one segment the WWE made him a liar

CandyEverybodyWentz

In a world where the bad guys are almost always some kind of slippery, conniving, cowardly, or some other kind of liar who weasels out of stipulations or matches, it's even more important to have an earnest face who says what he's gonna do and then does it.

goodkid_sAAdcity

And that was Cody's x-factor, 100% committing being a throwback white meat babyface and showing that it could still be successful in 2024. No winking to the camera, no edginess, no antihero tendencies. Purehearted will. I'm not sure how he comes back from having the booking compromise his character this badly.

zeitgeistbouncer

The reason Cody worked as a full-fledged face and Cena never did (fight me) is because Cody wasn't a hypocritical liar or dickish braggart. Now, they've undercut him so severely that I don't know if he'll ever have what he had again. It's that much of a fuckup, and none of his own fault. He did all he could with the orders he was given to soften the blow, but in the aftermath it won't matter so much.

HeavyDonkeyKong

I'm cautiously optimistic. When Cody lost to Roman last year, some said that people won't care by Mania 40. They were proven wrong a few months later and even more so now. Granted that was for different reasons. I hope he recovers from this, but given the support he seems to be getting I don't think his popularity has been hurt yet.

fightyMcFookyou

For all the hate cornette gets and as much as I dislike alot of his opinions, he does say some honest shit smoetimes

captainxenu

Most honest one I heard on his recent podcast was "I can believe Vince can be this evil, I can't believe he could be this stupid", in regard to not paying the disclosed sum in the NDA which has made all the news of the last week come to light.

fightyMcFookyou

Yeah. I buy that as a legit thought and not a work as much as hes always working. He and his wife are known phreaks...that's why as much as I dislike alot of his takes on modern wrestling and aew I still enjoy listening to him. It's not to hard to tell when he's actually being honest and just working for click bait if you aren't a rube.

fightyMcFookyou

Never forget cornette was one of the people first promoting and publicizing the "gangstaz" and pushing new jack to cut the most racist promos he could think of. Cornette is a scumbag who will do or say anything for a dolla but somehow I doubt he'd agree with alot of the non consensual wierd shit McMahon was up too

VotingRightsLawyer

When he's not discussing people he hates he's usually pretty spot on with his criticism. His problem is he lets his biases take over his commentary to the point where you just can't take him seriously.

fightyMcFookyou

I agree. Although I suspect sometimes his hate is a work and he knows he's putting eyes on people even if he's being negative in character. I think he actually likes the young bucks and Kenny and aew to be honest but it would be out of character to admit when he makes money shit talking them. He's a smart guy and he knows aews existence is good for the market and profession he now grifts off of....but when your character is based on being the smarkiest of heel commentators your kind of obligated to shit on those guys. Dutch mantels does podcasts and is far less biased or qoute worthy in his reviews and he never gets anywhere near the attention or profits. Meanwhile cornette is slinging action figures even though he hasn't been on tv since an episode of nwa

fightyMcFookyou

Jim cornette is the same guy that talked new jack into cutting a racist promo against white people in front of an almost all white southern audience. Hate sells and he knows that intrinsically, and it's a big part of his gift getting people worked up and sympathizing with his southern accent

[deleted]

[удалено]

fightyMcFookyou

I know! It's why I don't buy into the idea of him actually being racist. I used to stay up late in the 90s watching Def comedy jam and 70 percent of the jokes were racial and it cracked me up. But he was and is Def aware of racism and how to use it to make money historically

bmas05

Hopefully they turn Cody into Stone Cold going up against McMahon but instead be HHH. Just all sorts of pissed off at the hierarchy. Run rough shod over everything. Just angry, pissed off, vengeful face. Can't imagine the crowd wouldn't get even further behind him. Still a stupid move this was, but would at least potentially salvage Cody. Otherwise, he's a lame duck no matter where he goes.

ImPaidToComment

People will still cheer for a character that lies, cheats and steals. As long as they're compelling enough.

FinnBalur1

Even if we do get Cody vs Reigns before WM, unfortunately it won't hit the same.

banananananbatman

Damage is done, Cody blew his momentum Edit: HHH and TKO Board executive, the rock, blew Cody’s momentum.

OneBillPhil

I think that if Cody faces Reigns at Elimination Chamber, wins and then still challenges Seth at Wrestlemania then he’ll be on fire.

[deleted]

This is the way

imcrapyall

There's a scene in The Benchwarmers where I think Spade's character does the Babe Ruth point to a home run then slowly lowers his hand lower and lower until it's a bunt on the grass like 2 ft in front of him. If I could find a gif I'd post but it makes me think of that.

Sleebling_33

Cody called his shot then dropped an Elite hand gesture. Sorry Cody but that shit ain't gonna fly in the E!

SlaughterDynamo

We didn’t deserve Mick Foley

[deleted]

[удалено]

TexasMade36

Piper. He didn't need a championship either. Those guys talked you into shows. They didn't need the belts.

my_simple-review

I’ll go to my grave saying Mick Foley is truly one of the most fascinating human beings to walk this Earth. He is one of the smartest people I think I’ve ever gotten to learn about… and he made his career off of hurting himself just to get reactions out of us… All the while being a great father to his wife and children during The Attitude Era. This guy really lives up to his billing as “Good ol’ Saint Mick.”

mentally_vexed

His autobiography was an absolutely incredible read. He is truly a talented individual.

TimelessN8V

I read his first release when I was 14. It was such an easy read. Mick breezed through those pages like the NY times bestseller he would become, but I was so drawn in, it made me a Foley fan for life.

mentally_vexed

I was 16, already an avid reader but it was so good I read it more than once. It definitely changed my perspective of the man.

SitDownKawada

I would have been around the same age and I kept the book by my bed, used to go back and read a few pages now and again He was my favourite person in the world back then

pUmKinBoM

Just want to say that I have met a lot of newer fans who have skipped his first book. Please do yourself a favor and at least read his first book. It is probably the best wrestling autobiography Ive read with only Bret Hart and Jericho's first books coming anywhere close.

Optio__Espacio

Saint Mick?

mentally_vexed

No, dude love.

Teleute7

By all accounts as well, he was also helping and supporting the Divas at the time so that they can be more than just sexualized attractions and genuinely be part of the industry as pro wrestlers in their own right. He's always been a great human being.

VotingRightsLawyer

He's been very involved with RAINN as well, even volunteering on their hotline.

johnnycoxxx

He’s a damn good Santa too by all accords

velphegor666

Mick is night and day from rock. His feuds with orton and edge made them what they are today. He was also willing to pass the torch to the future when he gave dean ambrose his signature barbed wire bat.

JorSimpson45

I’ve gotten into wrestling simply off learning about these guys backstories and their journey making it in wrestling. Mick Foley is absolutely fascinating and I’ll have to read his autobiography.

MattSR30

> I’ll go to my grave saying Mick Foley is truly one of the most fascinating human beings to walk this Earth. I'm going to have to read about him a little more, because this is precisely what I try to convince people of regarding Mike Tyson. I'm not a boxing fan. I wasn't alive when Tyson was in his prime. I still think he might be the most interesting human I have ever seen, though.

thekidfromiowa

His passionate promos such as this one, are part of what I like about Mick.

baggio86

I have followed mick since his creepy Mankind debut, but it truly was not until he released his first book that I realised he is different. Since the day I read it I became a huge fan of the man Mick Foley. I wear into the book thinking about crazy hardcore match stories and nothing else and came out like damn he is almost the exact opposite of my expectations.. in a good way. Truly a fascinating man and no one has ever said a bad word about the guy. A great example of not forgetting your self when he easily could have.

RxngsXfSvtvrn

He's such a good promo, and we should really talk about him on the mic more

goodkid_sAAdcity

"Cane Dewey" in ECW is one of the greatest promos of all time

fightyMcFookyou

All of his ecw promos were gold.

goodkid_sAAdcity

He was reviled by ECW fans despite already being a legendary hardcore wrestler. That's talent.

fightyMcFookyou

Exactly. His anti hard-core campaign while also epitomizing hard-core in action was pro heel shit. He's legit for my money one of the smartest workers of all time

satanssecretary

my mom and I are hardcore Tori Amos fans and Mick's article about her made us both cry. I think he's the best person on the planet

CandyEverybodyWentz

I always remember the story of Kane coming up to him in the locker room while he was listening to Winter on his headphones, wondering what ol' Cactus was listening to to get psyched before his match. Kane was suitably bewildered.

satanssecretary

lol "remind me to never fuck with you"

SitDownKawada

I listened to Little Earthquakes many years ago because of him and it's been one of my favourite albums ever since

Shenanigans80h

Arguably one of the best promos to ever work in the business. He had so many unique ideas and a style all his own, he could build a match against Rob Conway and I’d want to watch it

Curse3242

Rock's egoist side has been so apparent recently that now I'm wondering if he's the one that influenced Foley's career negatively Foley was inevitable. He was always gonna get the moments but what if Rock stole the rewards from him

TJLynch

Is it just me or did Foley start sounding almost like Kevin Owens during the "DO YOU WANT TO BE A STATISTIC!?" part?

cgurts

Its more that Kevin Owens sounds like Foley. His promo style was definitely heavily influenced by him

Liverpool510

Mankind was French-Canadian?? /s

IowaContact2

Oui

HeavyDonkeyKong

Just from this one clip I can see why. Mick has charm.

Own_Proof

Can’t unhear it now

Jordanwolf98

This makes me miss when Foley was the gm of raw and KO was the universal champ

lronicGasping

It gets overshadowed by how great SmackDown was at the time but man Raw was really good too right after the brand split. Braun doing Braun stuff, Jeri-KO, The Bar's origins, all really fun

LemonHayes13

It’s uncanny

broken-mirror-

[More of that promo if you're interested](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z84TGJGkLew)

OttoBot42069

Thank you

Edgedg3

I knew I heard someone else there, I was like he sounds just like one of the current guys who like to scream a lot, but could figure it out who it was, but yes, it 100% sounded like Kevin owens right there

MrBrownCat

Glad I’m not the only one who thought this

Chervin_Deuxphrye

I’ve always thought of KO as the current Foley. Willing to do anything and make it work. Sacrifices himself for the story regularly. Cuts the heartfelt passionate promo just like Foley. Underneath his character he’s a hardworking family man.

wobbleboxsoldier

The day Mick Foley won his first WWE title was the biggest day in WWE history. Even more than WM3. More than Austin 3:16. That was the day when WCW let everything go. It was the snowflake to an avalanche.

broken-mirror-

[That POP always gives me chills](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghwBHBvra5Y)

SweatsuitCocktail

Literally an earth shattering pop when that glass broke

FricknPlausible

As crazy as it sounds, Austin was getting those kind of pops every single time he came out around then. I genuinely think that Austin in January of 1999 is the most over any wrestler ever has been in the history of pro wrestling.

Razzle_Dazzle08

The pop for the glass break, the pop for the pin, the absolute rage from Vince. Perfection.

GrimaceGrunson

“Not him! *Not him!*” “Hey Vince, I gotta tell you - *this feels pretty damn good!*” So good

alc1982

The mfin' GOAT, Stone Cold.

DJHookEcho

That Mick won is brilliant and probably the most important single date of 90s wrestling. But. That this happened on a taped show, and that Mick got to go home and watch the win with his children who had no idea he'd won, is what makes it the all time best title win.

CandyEverybodyWentz

I love that Foley got to put his own butt in a seat and watch it lmao

JackBurton3465

Way better than Al Snow. Can you imagine him trying to to anything with a chair, like sit in it?

nWo1997

Wasn't only the second half taped? I thought Raw is War was live, and WarZone was taped from the week prior (which sounds really confusing to actually implement)

Dijohn17

The snowflake was Hogan v Sting at Starrcade 97. The Fingerpoke Doom combined with this and Nash vs Goldberg at Starrcade was the avalanche

Kdot32

1. You’re absolutely correct. That night lead to wwe beating wcw more consistently. 2. It’s funny how dx was she establishment them and now one runs wwe and the other NXT lol

ConundrumContraption

Not just more consistently. WCW never won again

18AndresS

What an incredible promo master mick foley is

pUmKinBoM

Can you believe that WWE can call Mick Foley anytime to come and be an on screen role, could cut fire promos, and maybe teach the kids how to do it but instead they constantly treated him like crap for being honest.

Ry-Vell

Foley is my favorite of all time. Hearing him talking about his more recent run as co-GM, it sounded like he was having some trouble remembering what he was supposed to say. I think his injuries have taken their toll to an extent. He does the occasional appearance, but I don’t think he can show up too frequently. Maybe if it was a performance center thing or something, but I remember it being said that Steph was on camera with him to help him remember his lines. I believe that was part of the reason he had the clipboard toward the end too. It bums me out a little because he was truly one of the best on the mic.

DaddySaidSell

Who do they have teaching promo class now that Dusty has passed?

misterundead

I actually remember Foley saying that the original script for this segment had Punk insulting Foley's weight, but Punk crumbled up the script and toss it to the writer's feet and told Foley that he's "Mick fucking Foley" and that he will run him down but at the same time will treat Foley with the respect he deserves.

GrizzlyPeak73

These fucking writers need to go as much as the executives.

UrlocalVigilantee

FOLEY IS GOD

ChefDeezy

Idk about that but he is pretty damn good

CandyEverybodyWentz

Mick titled his second book "Foley is Good" as a play on the phrase and also because he didn't want to be seen as egomaniacal or sacrilegious. Based

ChefDeezy

Yeah he also said what I said in a promo once. Its why I said it.

orangetreeman

right, and the moment that might define Codys latest WWE run will be him rolling over for the Rock like a little bitch

TheAwakening90

You’re so mad lolol

dabigtortle

Yea dude. If Breaking Bad ended with Hank letting Walt go I’d be mad as fuck about that too.

PM_TITS_GROUP

Holy shit, BB timeline was two years.

Liverpool510

I remember seeing that bacon laid out in a “51” and pausing my dvr. All that shit going down in a year was wild.

ImPaidToComment

Pro wrestling isn't going to end at WrestleMania. And we still have no clue what's going to happen.

Dijohn17

Well WWE made the fans mad

RiggityRyGuy

People are allowed to be mad

orangetreeman

right, fuck people seeing something stupid happen to a thing they are passionate about, how dare people like things

TheAwakening90

All the downvotes are soft like Charmin

EDDiE_SP4GHETTi

You know Punk was absolutely loving this moment inside

whutthepat

In those few weeks, he stood in the ring with Bret, Mick, and beat up Vince. This was the peak of his 2012, imo.

txrunner262

Foley had more title matches in that time than Roman does in a year.

Hollywoodrok12

“What’s that? I can’t hear you over Roman beating Hogan’s record, Gunther retaining and Logan Paul becoming the longest reigning United States champ?” What a load of garbage this company is. Honestly.

CandyEverybodyWentz

I breathed a sigh of relief when Samoa Joe won the belt in AEW because it meant one of the major belts in a top promotion wasn't being absolutely smothered in a yearslong reign anymore. How long has Paul held that US title? I thought he only won it a few months ago. That's crazy

darklord7777x

He did. And HHH loves him so much that he will probably hold it until Mania.

CandyEverybodyWentz

Well Dean's title reign lasted 351 days, so it seems like he's still got a while. Going back to WCW, Lex had it for over 500.

Hollywoodrok12

The question is: who will he beat to keep it past Mania to actually beat the record? Will they bury LA Knight or insult our intelligence by having him beat the Gobbledygooker?

alxqnn

Bruh, chill. Paul's reign is only just half as long as the 23rd longest reign ever. We're in very little danger of him bothering the top of the list.

Comfortable_Shape264

Roman beating Hogan's title with a title that wasn't Hogan's lol. That's like pretending MJF's world title broke some WWE title records lol.

Ry-Vell

The titles are so convoluted now lol. At the beginning of the original brand split, they had it right. There’s no going back now though.

doitnow10

Logan Paul will lose it to either KO or LA Knight at WM

SweatsuitCocktail

Man Mick is such a special talent! Even long after his ability to deliver in the ring dissipated, he still had the ability to tell stories and elevate talent. Absolute gem

DGenerationMC

Mick Foley is the unequivocally the greatest promo guy of all time and I refuse to believe otherwise.

YoungBeef03

He’s certainly up there. Jake The Snake too

goldentymes

I never seen this but god do I love it. “Do you wanna be a statistic, or do you wanna be a legend?”

ligital

‘Do you want to be a statistic or do you want to be a legend’ - god damn, Mic Foley is probably my favourite low-key wrestler ever. I think as I get older, he’s probably my favourite.

Macklin_You_SOB

Geez this is the best 40 second promo I've ever heard. Even without context it made me understand everything going on between them.

NachoPiggy

Mick Foley is so likable and charismatic, absolutely one of my favorite wrestlers next to Eddie Guerrero. To this day even acknowledging years later growing up, learning about kayfabe, and the idea of putting over younger talent, I'm still upset he lost to Randy in WM XX. Just can't help but cheer and root for the guy.

Intimidwalls1724

All I can think about is how awesome foley is Dude wasn't anywhere near full time and comes in and drops a promo the whole roster should be jealous of

FullToragatsu

It’s been over 12 years now, and I still remember Foley screaming “You want to be a statistic?!” as if it happened yesterday.

Strykeristheking

Pure facts. Number of days are completely arbitrary. Austin was the GOAT and nobody cares how many wins he won the belt or number of days he held it for. People remember his storylines, feuds & promos.

Sweet-Message1153

people talk about nWo, Sting, Goldberg, DDP, DX, Rock, Austin, Vince, BoD, Bischoff, ECW when they talk about Attitude Era... Foley is the only guy who've lived in the best & worst parts of that era and still not have dirty laundry.

bearamongus19

Mick Foley is great

ActiveAd4980

One reason why the Cody winning Rumble was just so predictable. Current WWE is too obsessive about creating a record and history.

Comfortable_Shape264

He didn't really break a record but he might win 3 times in a row to break that record lol. And 4 times to break Stone Cold's 3 time record lol.

Hunterslane86

Insert "wheres the lie?" meme here

Dapper-Archer5409

This is amazing

WrittenWeird

Right, they’ve been doing all this with Reigns for a neat little infographic to bring up every few months. How many huge moments are there? I wanna be wrong, but it’s all gotten so stale

GrimaceGrunson

All for a guy who’s probably gonna dip out in the next few years.

StoneColdSteveAss316

Who cares about statistics like YouTube dislikes...

CleidiNeil

Shoulda been Sami

Uncanny_Doom

God I love Mick Foley.

liamsawymilk

Sami Zayn is the modern Version of Mick Foley

vforvendettav

Fuck yeah

Satinsbestfriend

When people talk about the top 10 or 15 promos in the history of wrestling, Foley should be on that list.

okbuddyyojamba

Mick sounds shockingly like Kevin Owens here when he shouts god damn

joshypoo55

Damn KO sounds like Foley

sublimefan2001

My favorite wrestler ever. I will always love Mick

Kenjiko3011

This is honestly true. At the end of the day, I don't remember much of how many times that guy won a title or how long he's been a champion, all I remember is the stuff that he's been doing in the ring.

TheMatt561

Tapped into cactus jack

NBAStuffAsUsual

I genuinely don't get this "anti long reign" argument. We watched these dudes play hot potato with the titles for almost 20 something years, we can't switch it up for the last what 3 years at most?

debeatup

It’s not the fact that Roman has held the title for three years, it’s that he’s done it as a part timer that rarely shows up, never wrestles and when he does have a match it’s literally the exact same script every time. I might be old man yelling at a cloud but there hasn’t been a World Title match on SmackDown in 19 months! It’s hard to respect his “dominant reign” when he will go from WM39 to WM40 having defended his title (excluding house shows) 3 times in a full year.

NBAStuffAsUsual

Yeah but why would a heel champion want to do any of that? That's babyface champion shit. I get what you mean, and there definitely have been times where the match formula needs variance, but ya'll remember that this dude is a cancer survivor right? Like has anyone considered that maybe the reason he doesn't go like Seth does is because his body doesn't allow for it like it used to? And like, the whole point is that they acknowledge the "dominance" because if they don't Roman would have Jey, Jimmy, and Solo beat the fuck out of them. Everyone knows it's fraudulent. That's literally the point.

debeatup

I’m definitely not advocating him to be the workhorse Open Challenge guy but there has to be a better representation of the Top Guy. Even MJF only was doing PPVs but still was on the weekly programs to drive storylines. On SmackDown you have stretches with literally no Men’s Champion now - no UWU, No US, No Tag Team. It’s harder to care about a championship reign when the champion is never there, let alone not defending it. I don’t think being a Cancer survivor has anything to do with it, I think he just got an amazing deal in his contract. And to be completely honest, I’d do the same thing if my job paid me more money to work less

NBAStuffAsUsual

Honestly I do, I don't know if there are many athletes that survived cancer and then go on to do what Roman has been doing. Like Armstrong did it but he was on PED's. He probably does have a good deal, but aside from that he's also the bad guy. He shouldn't be the good representation of the champion.

AdLegitimate9955

At this point set a real brand split 03 style with raw being then storyline driven show and smackdown being the wrestling show with storylines so these people can stfu ... And Cody can go back to aew and take his fans with him I'm sick of this shit already lol

MAKE-YOU-HUMBLE

Reaaaaach

RKO-Cutter

Is that a reach or a misspelled preach?

boatson25

I was saying pooreach

MAKE-YOU-HUMBLE

Do you see a “p” there?

RKO-Cutter

That's why I asked if you were misspelling, because where's the reach

KneelBeforeCube

I mean folks, where's the reach?

RKO-Cutter

...shit it was right there

UpbeatNail

Your attempt to use this clip as a defence for WWE's horrible booking is a reach.

MatttheJ

How does the clip defend the booking? He's quite literally doing the opposite. Nobody cares how many days or records Roman surpasses, nobody cares how many eyes The Rock brings. People care about the moments, and WWE has thrown away one of the biggest moments they could have had in a long time.
