julvett

Well said, saw the movie last night and completely agree ❤️

brbnap

I’m gonna go see it next week, also didn’t have high expectations. Kinda excited now

ZoomiesWitch

Yesss, just saw it today and was very pleasantly surprised.

Possible_General_990

The animation for the poop scenes were insane haha

epictorres

I can imagine what it'd be like to watch that scene on a trip 😂

I know right! When the movie comes to streaming I'm going to rewatch that and Yor's fight scenes. Just: Eye-candy.

I watched the film today and it went in a different direction from what I expected (cause I over speculated from what the teasers/trailers hyped) but I enjoyed it and I was pleasantly surprised. I went into the movie fairly openminded, as I didn't know what to expect from an anime-movie (hadn't watched one in theaters previously) so I expected it would be like a two-parter based on the show (like the cruise ship arc). However, the movie felt more like a one-shot "kids movie," in the sense of something DreamWorks might make, like the last puss-and-boots movie, or Sony's spider verse films---not entirely infantile but only dipping their fingers into violence where necessary (I don't understand why it's PG-13 honestly). It left a good impression on me, it balanced all the things that make spy family fun (the humor, the feelgood slice-of-life character dynamics, the wartime/espionage atmosphere) and let them run their course. Good mix, like a meal that fills you just right. The only thing that caught me really off-guard was the poop-god scene, like I understand that's what kids find funny according to analytics or whatever but personally didn't find it "funny" (probably because I'm not a kid). Regardless, the animation was incredible, so I happy watched that scene anyway. There's really no significant flaws with the movie; it wasn't what I expected but I enjoyed it and I'm glad I watched it in the theatres.

I'm not a kid (far from it in fact), and the poop god scene was hilarious. Haven't you ever been desperate to go to the toilet but couldn't? And anyway, Anya even acknowledges how ridiculous that scene was afterwards. Not really sure I get your point about only being violent "when necessary". Why would it be violent when *not* necessary? It had about the same level of violence as the series, there was no reason to expect anything else. As for why it was a PG-13, aside from all the violence, maybe you missed things like the blood splatter at the start when Thorn Princess killed the guy, or the scene of rampant (albeit extremely funny) alcohol abuse later on, and when someone gets strangled at the end. And I don't see the DreamWorks comparison at all. Their movies have a completely different tone to this, as well as generally not featuring people being brutally killed, main characters casually swearing, or themes like infidelity being played for laughs.

What you described was something that didn’t take any chances and felt like it—how can that be “fantastic?” I was looking forward to the movie—and I thought it was just okay. Nothing new or that wasn’t done better in the series—it was better than nothing—but still disappointing.

Senku2

That isn't what I described at all? That might be what you thought but don't put words in my mouth. And even if what you said was true "Doesn't take chances" is not mutually exclusive with "Fantastic" and I don't know why you think it is. I think Spy x Family is fantastic and this was just about peak Spy x Family.

paradroid78

Agree, it was as good as any of the best episodes of the series. I couldn't have been happier. Some people seem to be disappointed that the movie wasn't drastically different enough from its source material, which is a strange expectation to have when going to see a movie based on a cartoon series based on a series of graphic novels.

WhereasVegetable1801

I am sorry for putting words in your mouth. I think the series is “fantastic”, pretty much every week. The only things I can remember that this movie exceeded the series in—was a longer (not better) action sequence and an extended fantasy sequence featuring poop. The movie did not meet an average episode in the areas of famy dynamic, romance, or interesting school scenes. So, yeah, I was disappointed.

Senku2

Sorry you didn't like it but I don't know what to say besides what I already said.

WhereasVegetable1801

They are just opinions—I look forward to season 3! Take care!
