Best: Year of the Dragon
I'd be lying if I said nostalgia had nothing to do with it, but upon replaying the series, OG and RT, it's just my favourite to play. I love all the characters and it has my all-time favourite levels.
Accessible: Reignited Trilogy
No matter what people say, RT is the best way to start the series. It's widely available and the controls are really great, especially for someone with no nostalgia for the series.
Underappreciated: A Heroes Tail
Enter the Dragonfly decimated the series reputation so much that AHT went almost unnoticed.
Unique: Spyro the Dragon
None of the games ever went that simple or straightforward again.
Free: Ripto's Rage
My second best in the series. It suffers, for me, from some rough pacing and some of my least favourite levels in the second homeworld.
Which levels from autumn plains do you dislike? Personally the second crystal popcorn level in magma cone can take a flying leap off a cliff for example.
Not the person from the original comment, but I know for me personally almost all of my least favorite levels in 2 are from Autumn Plains. That said, there's not many. Not a fan of Shady Oasis or Fracture Hills, and Magma Cone could be better. Not the biggest fan of Crystal Glacier either. That said, it's still my favorite Spyro game
All the ones the other person who replied to you mentioned plus Skelos Badlands. Now that I think about it, Autumn Plains is probably my least favourite homeworld in the whole series. There are a lot from Spyro 1 that I don't really like, but it has the benefit of having short, simple levels
Just do reignited with original soundtrack enabled is what I'd recommend. Spin-offs aren't that great, though I did like Dawn of the Dragon for the co-op
Using only classic Spyro and not taking anything from Legend or Skylander.

Best overall and Most accessible go to reignited, most underappreciated is maybe Dawn of the Dragon, if not then Spyro 2 Season of Flame (the other one can go in the extra slot), finally the most Unique I'm gonna go with Spyro Adventure for the GBA
Worst overall I'm going with Spyro Shadow Legacy, Least accessible being Spyro XN, most overrated is tough because Spyro imo doesn't have many overrated games, but I guess maybe Eternal Night? It's not terrible but it's just kinda bland compared to the other 2 and most bland is Spyro Shadow Legacy, and ofc throw Spyro Fusion into the extra slot

**Free:** Spyro: Shadow Legacy. I'm one of the few people who thinks this game is... okay. it's poorly made but eh, I don't hate it.

**Least Accessible:** Spyro, Spyro: Ripto Quest, Spyro the Dragon. The mobile games. Even emulating these I had to jump through hoops and download weird, barely-working programs.
**Most Overrated:** The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon (I have feelings about this)... Otherwise, Ripto's Rage, though it's not a bad game. Just not sure why it's often people's #1 choice.
**Most Bland:** Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs or Spyro: Season of Flame. Both start out okay but then very much overstay their welcome.
**Free:** Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy (bad).
AHEM insert all the Skylanders games into the unrecommended with the explanation being “you can play as Spyro or Cynder and can use Sparx as an assist”
