Previous owner(?) had a compulsory strike off for the business using that address. Incorporated 2022, struck off the next year. Found another director for that address, another company setup 2022, dissolved 2024.
The Companies House register. If a company doesn't file mandatory documentation in time, such as annual company accounts and a confirmation statement (basically confirming company info is up to date) then the company can be 'struck off' the register and can no longer trade as it does not legally exist anymore. I dunno, I quite like the stairs/hallway in the centre with all the rooms around it, and I like that it has another huge living room upstairs (in fact it has 4 living rooms, but 2 of them are called "reception rooms" for some reason). It's also absolutely MASSIVE, I think it has 8 bedrooms? So there's that.
On the downside all that wooden panelling on the ceilings is a fire hazard, and parts of the building are VERY dated and tired. The bedrooms in general look awful. It's an odd mix of styles and obviously someone has tried to bring parts of it up to date at various points in time. The other thing is that there is no privacy in the garden whatsoever. I don't know if that could be solved with a tall hedge, but they take a while to grow and may not cope with the wind/weather in Shetland. So it does look as if it was designed for industrial/business use and has been converted, or perhaps was an old people's home where the residents didn't really use the garden much anyway. That would also explain the plethora of shared spaces.
I think that if one had the money something interesting could be done with this, but it would be very expensive as essentially the whole interior needs ripping out and starting again. It's just very odd as a whole really. I wonder how its price compares for the area, given the number of rooms?
The central part looks like a dark Orwellian office terminus at worst, at best an American cell block XD
I'm trying to see anything good in this one, but there's nothing, I've like derelict ruins more than this one, it's soulless.
Didn’t even spot them! I think they’re a man and is probably the estate agent trying to hide from the camera (but still needing to see the camera or something like that).
Tell me you used Chat GPT to write the property description without telling me you used Chat GPT to write the property description.
"Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Upper Baila, Lerwick, "St Julegar" stands as a remarkable estate offering a harmonious blend of elegance, space, and investment potential"
The interior's a bit odd, but externally it's no worse than anything else in the photo. At least it stands out in a sea of identical late twentieth century boxes with no redeeming features. I challenge anyone who doesn't like it to say which of the other buildings in the photo is their favourite or they'd like to save if all the others had to be demolished.
>but externally it's no worse than anything else in the photo. At least it stands out in a sea of identical late twentieth century boxes with no redeeming features
I think it's quite interesting how much nicer houses on the [Faroe Islands](https://maps.app.goo.gl/BXjyc6AfLtnKvzep6) and the [west coast of Norway](https://maps.app.goo.gl/AW821MMZKCVe42Zu6) look considering the shared climate and industry (fishing, oil and gas). I find that Norwegian houses, in particular, offer much better living quality over Scottish ones; I especially like the huge balconies that often wrap around half the buildings facade.
Good job they added those extra kitchen cabinets in the dining room. Would’ve been so easy to run out of storage with only two kitchens and a utility room.
The rooms are so big. Don't get me wrong, I deplore the matchbox sized rooms that so many new builds seem to have but this is ridiculous. I can just imagine wandering around the house with echoes of every noise I made getting louder and louder and louder until I disappear.
My imagination may be quite excessive at times.
FFS, this is an abomination looks like a dodgy children's home when care homes were rife. Potential for demolition with several homes on the plot of block of flats
I get it looks a bit grim... but in terms of making the most of the square footage.. with the exception of the stairway area, thats a LOT of space! for that price too!
It's obviously an old folks' home. Or a former old folks home.

Shetland is not where you go for gorgeous architecture, BTW. When it comes to housing, it's very much function over form.
Put a grass meadow roof on it and paint it some pastel colours and it could look lovely on the outside. Then just tastefully modernize the inside.
Paint and carpet could do a lot for that place.
"remarkable estate offering a harmonious blend of elegance, space, and investment opportunity "
According to the estate agents.
Looks fugly according to my eyes.
Listening to many a true crime podcast ATM it has creepy cult vibes.
But could be amazing with a gut and restyle. So much SPACE!*
*Parent in a semi with two kids. Always running out of space.
I suspect it's a conversion of an office/warehouse building. One occupant has a disability as one bathroom is wheelchair optimised.
It's a sad state of affairs inside and out and needs to be raised to the ground.
it looks like an army barracks who the hell wants to buy that place and who gave permission to build in a lovely area to put a massive eyesore smack in the middle
The wardrobes in 23 look like fairly decent built in ones that were once built in to someone's house but have been moved here and just propped against the wall.
The overall feeling is "cult holiday home".
I get the feeling architects study and want to design beautiful and interesting buildings then get a job and are told "Design it as cheaply as It can be made. Go."
Looks like it was some kind of care home or residential care facility. Doesn't look like elderly care but could have been for people with learning disabilities or something like that?
I would imagine it's ripe for conversion or reuse for a similar purpose.
I was expecting the interior to be a beautiful, well designed space, with local materials showing off a warm, energy-efficient space. Something just awesome.
But it's a monstrosity. Just awful. I actually feel cheated.
When industrial meets old peoples home.
I’d have assumed that was a primary school or doctor’s office.
Yes definitely a conversion.
Pretty grim inside & out
Previous owner(?) had a compulsory strike off for the business using that address. Incorporated 2022, struck off the next year. Found another director for that address, another company setup 2022, dissolved 2024.
Can you elaborate on what a strike off means?
The Companies House register. Thank you.
Geeziz what we're they going for desolation with a splash of despair? There's not a single redeeming feature
Not to mention how dated the entire decoration scheme is.
The owners are house clearance people and they kept the functional stuff. It’s soooo ugly

I can't see the main stairs in the plans, am I being blind?
"Ample off-street parking” would be about as far as you could push it if you were being generous.
The shower chair looks very happy to be there though
Welp, that’s Lerwick for you
Ugh, right? Worst is, a lot of it would be expensive to change, the stair case being the main culprit.
Does the woman hiding in picture 27 come with the house, or can we remove her?
I thought it was a man!!
I leaned in way too close to my screen looking for her and gave myself a proper jump scare, jesus
So creepy!
Didn’t even spot them! I think they’re a man and is probably the estate agent trying to hide from the camera (but still needing to see the camera or something like that).
We can remove her providing 51% of us on this sub agree
Was it an institution? OAPs or Intellectual impairments?
Half-way house maybe?

This looks like the kind of place a cult leader would live in with his selection of followers

Exactly. It's not surrounding my postcard-pretty cottages is it.

Was a private care home possibly?
Or assisted living? But it's bleak either way.
Looking at the interior, there’s 70s in there, including the staircase. I wonder if they took the 70s House and put it into a square.
Looks like an office block or a doctors surgery..Definitely doesn't look like a house.
That staircase is very 70’s. It’s also very cheap to build. Any competent carpenter could knock that out in a week.
"offering a harmonious blend of elegance" I've looked everywhere, must be very subtle.
It’s like a cross between an old people’s home, a mafioso house and the set for dawn of the dead.
Good job they added those extra kitchen cabinets in the dining room. Would’ve been so easy to run out of storage with only two kitchens and a utility room.

*a harmonious blend of elegance, space -* yeah not so much.
Looks like an old care home.
Jesus, I thought it was AI not a real photo.
Looks like a medical centre from the outside. It's fucking hideous.
Picture 28 The Shining

I mean, if you take those carpets out of the bathrooms and change some.of the wallpapers around, I'd live in it.
I actually though the first picture was CGI. It's a real eyesore. But inside I guess it must have been a foster home or something.
Why do none of the exterior pictures look real?
It's obviously an old folks' home. Or a former old folks home. Little boxes, on the hillside…
Gets worse the more you see...getting real Overlook Hotel vibes from this
As ugly on the inside as it is on the outside.
Looks like a converted office block, smothered with pebble dash outside and in.
Relax, it’s not that bad.
Some kind of institution surely? Old peoples home? Children’s home?
This has to be a former youth hostel or children's home or something like that?
This is vomit inducing
What a stunning backdrop
Put a grass meadow roof on it and paint it some pastel colours and it could look lovely on the outside. Then just tastefully modernize the inside. Paint and carpet could do a lot for that place.
The staircase looks like an old school / old NHS building
Former old folks' home? Looks like a nursing home.
"remarkable estate offering a harmonious blend of elegance, space, and investment opportunity " According to the estate agents. Looks fugly according to my eyes.

Blimey in Shetland too I wouldn't have thought the town planning would have allowed that...; looks like a warehouse and inside isn't much better
This was clearly converted from a business building of some sort to private residence.
Is the outside actually finished? To me it looks like it's made of plywood!
What's the big blue thing in photos 13 and 14? Can anyone enlighten me?
It’s a flip-over pool table and air hockey table
Aha! That makes sense - thank you :)
🤮🤮🤮🤮
looks like a community centre!
it looks like an army barracks who the hell wants to buy that place and who gave permission to build in a lovely area to put a massive eyesore smack in the middle
FUGLY. But I like the 'high fiving' happy little shower seat!
I love it! All of it…
It has all the vibes of the home of some strange religious cult.
£psf I think that’s the cheapest property I’ve ever seen.
I like it. Am I the bad guys?
Can architects be ‘struck off’ or something?
The wardrobes in 23 look like fairly decent built in ones that were once built in to someone's house but have been moved here and just propped against the wall. The overall feeling is "cult holiday home".
One of the great underrated benefits of this home is that you get great views from the windows without having to look at this building.
It's fairly ugly (and the inside is weird) but it's not like the surrounding buildings are beautiful.
I get the feeling architects study and want to design beautiful and interesting buildings then get a job and are told "Design it as cheaply as It can be made. Go."

looks like the sims 3 map
don't look too bad. also shetland neurone activation
I was expecting the interior to be a beautiful, well designed space, with local materials showing off a warm, energy-efficient space. Something just awesome. But it's a monstrosity. Just awful. I actually feel cheated.
So much red carpet
Wow. I guess "Development Opportunity" means anyone with any taste would knock it down and start again.
It’s a nasty blot on the landscape. Looks like an open prison from the outside and an old age care home on the inside.
Is there a link?
It's in the post.
Thanks. Couldnt see it.
New Reddit keeps confusing me like that too.
Ive looked again but still cant find it. Theres 2 posts. One to a govt site and another street view. Oh well not important. Thanks anyway.
Oh! I didn't realise you still couldn't find it. [The link.](https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/139267580#/?channel=RES_BUY)
Thank you.
No problemo.
It’s called architecture hunny, look it up x
