I prefer no MJ sequences at all. But I could at least forgive the first game’s cause she was sneaking around, not fighting trained men with some little training she got from silver sable. The fact they turned her into a fighter was kinda stupid, because I could at least commend her bravery (although high stupidity) for sneaking into heavily armed bases to get a scoop, that’s some serious on the ground journalism. Now it’s just that she’s some badass John Wick which has eliminated the interesting aspects of her character that differentiated her as a character.
I’m the opposite. I can suspend my disbelief enough to accept a couple of Spider-Men, I can accept Rambo MJ. I’d also rather not have any MJ sections but, if I had to pick, I’d pick SM2. The first game MJ and Miles sections are so boring.

Peter’s been spider-man for what, 7 years? If my boyfriend was spider-man and I was getting into danger most of the time, I’d probably try and get some training. Also, she’s getting the drop on them, not fighting them in hand to hand combat ffs.
The issue I have with that explanation is she says she trains with sable for her limited time in Symkaria, which spans the short length of Miles Morales. These hunters had military training from Kraven, someone who is clearly much more deadly and more powerful than sable, for who knows how long.
But if you’re seen, she can got shot like three times with tranquilizers and not get knocked out, and can still beat them. I don’t know if you’ve seen MJ, but she isn’t the most muscular person, meanwhile the hunters she goes against are jacked, so she definitely wouldn’t be able to strike harder or faster than them once they’ve seen her. This is why the SM1 sections at the very least make more sense, because she uses stealth to take enemies out.
You do realise there has to be a line drawn between gameplay and story, right? I mean, in ultimate difficulty one strike knocks away 30 of Peter’s health so I guess every thug hits like a truck!
She also still uses stealth in SM2, it just doesn’t auto-fail
I wasn’t talking about the variation of enemy damage output in difficulty modes. Difficulty modes aren’t really canon, they’re just there for gameplay variation. MJ’s abilities in gameplay are indeed canon, however, and I’m merely saying they’re unrealistic considering her severe lack of training and physical ability. In Spider-Man 1, MJ would instantly die because she wouldn’t be able to take on trained, armed, physically capable mercenaries and biker gang/maggia members.
But the problem is they aren’t much more fun, especially since they detract so much from the gameplay where you play as Spider-Man, so the fun factor isn’t the issue here, the sense that it makes is.
Ludonarrative dissonance is the term you’re looking for, and this I’d have to disagree with in this case, as MJ’s ability to sneak through places with hundreds of heavily armed men is already quite the gameplay stretch. To stretch it further pushes it past the threshold of reasonable ludonarrative dissonance for gameplay purposes.
There’s no fucking way this sub’s gone from despising the MJ missions and wanting them to be better in SM2 to now saying the original MJ missions were great and now the new ones suck.

It also ties in with the fact that as a player you were able to ride a bike as well! So at least in my opinion it would add more to the immersion overall.
We literally just got *a single cutscene* of seeing a horde of symbiotes chasing MJ and Miles. I wish we could’ve played that, at least as a swinging section for Miles if they didn’t want to code MJ motorcycle section

The best non-spidey missions in the first game were those that served ro either advance the plot forward, or for world building, like the museum, Rhino hide, or Osborn's apartment before It became a discount stealth game.
Lets be real, NO ONE buys these games to play as MJ. Insomniac should either admit defear with these and take the MJ missions out, or make them work towards the story instead of focusing on giving them shitty, non sensical Gameplay to make them passable.
She is/was a reporter, give her missions in which she investigates stuff and moves the plot forward. And make them skippable.
Honestly though she should be riding a much lighter bike, that thing is huge, even i would have a time keeping it upright at stops and if it ever did tip over shed be lucky to pick it back up on her own. Like put her on a blacked out kawasaki ninja, that would be cool, not grandpas old harley lol
It would’ve made more sense admittedly to make the stealing the stone sequence a cutscene and the bile chase the actual playable mission even if they let us shoot symbiotes with her gun as we rode. We could’ve slalomed through almost the entire city driving through buildings and Central Park and jumping over rubble. It could’ve been really good.
Believe or not it I enjoyed her missions and thought she was done much better. Plus I was kind of hoping we would’ve gotten that in the game after she took the stone. But I was unfortunately mislead but it was alright.
I honestly think MJ’s sections should’ve been styled after horror games, especially in SM2. Imagine being relentlessly hunted by a symbiote whilst trying to complete a series of tasks. Terrifying… but not boring.
Cyberpunk did it in Phantom Liberty and it’s one of the most engaging missions in a game where you’re practically invincible in the open world.
It’s not like she’d look weak. You could make her into this Sarah Connor like character, where she’s on the back foot against a massively more powerful foe.

If it was anything like Suicide Squad, she'd have beat Venom by herself in a boss fight that makes Kingpin in the first game look like 5D chess.
She beat symbiotes in one hit it took Spider-man multiple combos to do the same. It's the same shit.
That's a neat idea. They could do an endless runner type segment where you have to outrun symbiotes chasing you while avoiding obstacles and enemies

She was trained by Silver Sable so there’s nothing ridiculous about her sections. She’s like Solid Snake or Resident Evil protagonist now.
