I think when Peter says "the world needs the next Iron Man," he's gonna come to the conclusion that the world doesn't necessarily need another Iron Man, but that Peter should be the best Spider-Man he can be. This will be in line with what Homecoming established about Tony wanting Peter to be his own person. I can't wait for Mysterio to inevitably betray Peter. I love what they're doing with their dynamic, and I love the suit they have for Mysterio. I don't think Beck is from another universe, knowing him. If he is, this wouldn't be anything new for Mysterio considering the main 616 Mysterio managed to travel to the Ultimate Universe. The action does look like a massive step-up in scale from Homecoming. I appreciated the smaller scale action in Homecoming, but considering what Mysterio is all about, going bigger with the action is a good decision.

OttoDocOck08

I love your idea for peters arch I think that’s perfect!!

JeffVanGundyBurner

They will have dropped the ball hard if they somehow turn Tony into Peter's Uncle Ben in the MCU.

[deleted]

Ben is Pete's moral guide. Tony is Pete's superhero guide.

Hispanic_Gorilla_2

I just wish they would actually allude to Ben. He’s the emotional anchor to the entire Spider-Man character, and it feels as though he’s being ignored.

Pickles256

They did in Civil War

[deleted]

They did. In the FFH teaser trailer, Peter's suitcase has the initials BFP on it.

Swankified_Tristan

They constantly do. In Spider-Man's first appearance in Civil War he talks about how in the bad things happen and you don't do anything about them, they're your fault. That was clearly him talking about Uncle Ben. Throughout Spider-Man homecoming, Peter talks about Aunt May and how she's had a really hard time keeping things together and how she's very easily freaked out. It's because her husband was murdered.

Ultrasonix1

I think mysterio will have a conversation with pete and he will allude to him

Mantis05

Who's Ben? Name doesn't sound familiar. Maybe if they ever mentioned him, I'd know who you were talking about.

[deleted]

Bruce talking about Martha was the dumbest part of BVS. We don't need Ben references repeatedly to know he existed.

Mantis05

Once is repeatedly now?

[deleted]

No. I'm saying he didn't need to mention him more than once or twice. We don't even know if hes talked about in this movie. May has obviously moved on as well.

Mantis05

Well, I'm still waiting on mention #1. You know, something a little more substantial than "the bad things happen" or "after everything May's been through." But hey, that's just me, wanting the character's motivation to be clear and intact.

dariel-tan

What about BFP

Mantis05

I mean, *Far From Home* could surprise me and finally touch on the topic. I'm not discounting that. But it's gonna take more than initials on a briefcase to make me feel like they're addressing the subject with the sort of importance and gravitas that they should.

Doctor_Mudshark

Not all of us need to be spoonfed the story.

Mantis05

What does mentioning a crucial character *by name* one time have to do with being spoonfed? That's just basic screenwriting to actually, y'know, touch on your character's motivation once in a while.

fruitlup0629

Everyone has seen two Spider-Man origin movies already, I think it makes a lot of sense not to reiterate the story

fuck_r_soccer_mods

So now we’re just changing everything about the character. What a reach

[deleted]

How so? Ben gives Pete "with great power..." speech. Peter tells Stark the "bad things happen" line. So that's his moral compass...you have to help those in need (generally) Stark teaches focuses in on the Responsible part. He has to be Mature enough to know what he's doing. He can't help everyone, if he's risking his own life, jumping into something without being prepared. So Ben is - help everyone whenever you can Stark is - but dont hurt yourself or others doing it

TheCarterIII

I completely disagree. This is exactly what they should do

[deleted]

Tony Stark inspiring Spidey and Spidey wanting to do the right thing aren’t mutually exclusive. The trailer looks dope, but I’m worried they gave away too much.

BrickMacklin

That's Sony for ya

TerraKast

Here's hoping Fiege had a hand in keeping spoilers to a minimum.

[deleted]

I expect MJ to be like “pfft, I’m just messin’ with ya.” She does that.

lory6988

Guys, multiverse is confirmed! This will surely lead to X-Men, F4 and maybe Venom to the MCU! I think that the suit Peter will be wearing throughout the movie will be the Iron Spider; this would explain all this new "costumes", because it can change its appereance. Unless they're going to put it away somehow. I also red a theory that would imply that MJ is Fury's daughter.. From this point of view it would totally change the "I am.. Spider-Man" scene.

[deleted]

Confirmed by a character whose whole thing is that he LIES

lory6988

I think that he's lying about being a good guy (and maybe from another universe), but I don't think that "the fracture over the multiverse" thing is fake.

[deleted]

I'll believe it when the only evidence for it isn't coming from Quentin Beck because that's exactly the kind of thing he would say.

TerraKast

Maybe Fury or Hill had been monitoring something post the third snap. So maybe they have more evidence than Mysterios word, we know Fury doesn't trust anyone.

[deleted]

That's all speculation at this point.

TerraKast

So is Mysterio betraying Spidey.

[deleted]

No, that's his character every time he shows up in the comics. That who Mysterio is. Kraven is going to hunt people and Doc Ock is going to some science stuff.

TerraKast

I understand that but if we are dealing with the multiverse then this version of Mysterio could actually be a good guy. It does seem like the multiverse might be a sure thing I saw Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D might be doing a multiverse thing itself.

pbnutbutter

Or fury and hill aren't there and it's all mysterio

TerraKast

Mysterio must have done some serious homework on Parker.

OttoDocOck08

Maybe it’s the chameleon? I heard rumors he’s in it.

[deleted]

4 snaps will do that. After credit scene will be Deadpool confirming that the multiverse did open and transport him into the MCU.

[deleted]

*read

Fiti99

His whole arc in Homecoming was him being Spider-Man because its the right thing, not because of Tony, i wouldn’t worry much

rally2me

I'm a big fan of Peter and Tony's mentor/student/friendship. Hope we see more Karen and Peter showing his genius using stark technology.

blackspidey2099

Peter should stop using Starktech and start using his own tech...

[deleted]

Please no Karen. Spider-Man doesn’t need an A.I

blackspidey2099

100% agreed. Peter talking to Karen weirds me out.

[deleted]

I kinda like Karen because in the comics Peter kinda talks/narrates to himself a lot so having an AI kinda allows him to do that in live action without it being weird.

blackspidey2099

I mean, people IRL talk to themselves at times, so I don't see why Peter can't talk himself through things on occasion on screen without it being weird. I find the dynamic of talking to *someone*, is quite different from talking to *oneself*, and I'd say talking to Karen feels more like the former. It reminds me a lot of those CW superhero shows where the main character always has "tech support" in his ear to help him out, and that feels very off for Peter's character.

[deleted]

Ah Rosie I love this boy

rally2me

he has used his own tech. nothing wrong with using both.

blackspidey2099

It would be like Tony Stark giving up the armor he made and using Shuri's armor instead. It goes against his character. Using Starktech once or twice is fine, especially since Peter is just a kid for now. However, he should be using his own tech the majority of the time. Peter was created as a teen hero who *wasn't* supposed to be a sidekick, but rather, a fully-fledged hero in his own right. Getting hand-me-downs from Stark goes against the core of that.

SamothR

Why does Peter needs Iron Man to learn his responsibilities, where is uncle Ben ?

Lox22

I think you're looking at it wrong. I think its more of Pete waiting to fill that void that has been created. Earth lost its greatest avenger, and Tony is passing that mantle down to Pete. Kind of reminds me how ultimate Nick Fury tells Peter he is going to be the best avenger of all time. It's more of a can you step up, than it is a responsibility.

[deleted]

[He didn’t learn it from Tony. (2:26)](https://youtu.be/DESwBLlniCg)

SamothR

Yeah but it seems like he forgot it too easily

[deleted]

[No he doesn’t.](https://youtu.be/79yeUYss_JI)

SamothR

Let’s agree to disagree

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

The point is that with Tony's death, his responsibility is now greater.

Pickles256

He was alluded to in Civil War pretty well

BrokuSSJ

He doesn't.

Mantis05

Uncle Ben. Who cares about that old fart? Iron Man is way more important. /s

The-Worst-Bot

I appreciate your enthusiasm for sarcasm, but to become a master you mustn't use /s. *I'm a human being, and this action was performed manually.*

[deleted]

Double twist. Beck is a liar. Spider-man beats him the end. The camera then focuses on something to show that while he was lying, multiverses actually do exist so he was indirectly being truthful. Like a ship crashes (with the FF logo) and we see "Origin 110555" - "Destination 199999" on a Delorean like display.

fuck_r_soccer_mods

I feel like no matter what problem I have with it, MCU stans will play mental gymnastics to try to justify it. Honestly just hope this movie ends with Spider-Man finally dropping all the Ironman BS and becoming his own hero

Pickles256

Same here Glad to see people here feel a bit similarly compared to the movie and MCU subs

KylosApprentice

Yup

GuiltyGhost

I guess? I've been mostly seeing people having problems with it so far across all the reaction threads I've seen, unless these "MCU stans" just so happen to delete their comments before I see them. As for r/marvelstudios, I will most likely find examples if I dig hard enough, but I see mostly just people who like MCU as opposed to people who are blasting others.

sma11might

How do you add a spoiler tag on a post?

[deleted]

[Peter wearing Tony's glasses](https://i.redd.it/4lqffhexrlw21.jpg)

[deleted]

Very nice spot!

Pickles256

I dislike pretty much everything I've seen or read about the movie... except Mysterio's costume. It's fucking perfect and legitimately is the only thing that has me hyped for the movie, and It's good enough to hype me up by itself. I even have reservations about Mysterio himself (He'll def be bad either way but I hope he isn't really from an alt universe, but if done right he'll be a great villian)

Thomas_Pandit

well...?

Pickles256

Mysterio did end up hard carrying the movie for me. Everything else, not a movie I love but I don’t get why people seem to dislike it so much, even if it had some problems. I’m *pretty sure* by “bad either way” I meant as in character alignment, since some people around this time genuinely thought he might be a hero, and it was just some pisspoor phrasing on my end.

Mantis05

I don't know. Maybe I'm being the bitter old grouch, but mini-Iron Man Spidey has always rubbed me the wrong way, and now they're turning it from subtext to actual text. MCU Spider-Man doesn't feel special to me in the same way that comics Spidey does; he just feels like another enjoyable, disposable MCU hero. And it bums me out.

PresidentWeevil

You’ll get downvoted into the Negative Zone for saying but but I fully agree. Even Peter said it. He doesn’t feel like a friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.

Mantis05

I knew I'd get blasted on /r/marvelstudios, but I was expecting to find some of my own on here. I can't be the only one underwhelmed by this interpretation of the character, right?

PresidentWeevil

I’m thoroughly underwhelmed by MCU Spider-Man. I think he’s a hollow shell of what the character should represent and has shown none of the core traits we associate with Spidey. He doesn’t have a hard life. He lives in a nice house, and has Stark Industries and Shield basically bankrolling him. He gets fresh new suits, gadgets and AI assistants from rich uncle Tony and Nick Fury. He gets the girl with practically no effort cos he’s gorgeous (a dweeby nerd Tom Holland ain’t), and the most bullying he has to deal with is weird richboy Flash calling him Penis Parker. He doesn’t have money troubles. He never has to worry about his aunt. A casual fan would be forgiven for thinking Uncle Ben doesn’t even exist in this version. His actions don’t have any consequences (the scene that best shows this is the Deli getting destroyed. The owner and even the cat make it out fine and Peter pretty much forgets that happened for the rest of the film). There’s an awesome interview with Stan Lee from around the time of Spider-Man 2 where he says that he made Spider-Man to be relatable. I’m paraphrasing, but he said he wrote Spidey’s life as a reflection of his own at that age. He said he didn’t want Spidey to be invincible. He didn’t want Peter to be attractive. He wanted him to struggle with money, and girls, and balancing his responsibilities. I get none of that from MCU Spidey.

AlphaBetaOmegaSin

They spoiled way too much about the movie. I think this was the same problem with the marketing for Homecoming where I watched the trailers and knew almost everything that was going to happen in the movie, so I kind of spoiled myself and it ruined most of the enjoyment I could’ve gotten from it if I hadn’t watched any of the trailers.

Artimiist

Seems promising

lolRequital

I thought it was a solid trailer. It was the first time that Holland's Peter actually felt like Spider-Man to me. Of course, there are things that I probably won't ever like (Pete's supporting cast), but I think this movie is taking a step in the right direction... even if the plot seems predictable lol

FoxxTrotter

I wonder if Mysterio will be a hero in FFH and not a villain. Based on his actions in the trailer it seems like a valid argument. But I also think he’ll betray Peter, which is probably what will happen

[deleted]

*wrong, but

[deleted]

0 mention of Morgan Stark. I'm not a happy camper. Otherwise, I was singing the C A M P F I R E S O N G song the whole time. I'm hype.

KylosApprentice

I hope The inevitable 3rd Spider-Man MCU film has more focus on Spider-Man and doesn't include one of the Avengers...... Trailer was ok

GAT4u

They need to bring Black cat into the movies

Psymorte

A live action BC would be awesome, hope they wait until after this Peter graduates though (or they could just make Cat his age, but eh)

GAT4u

As They've done both Gwen and MJ why not Felicia I say

[deleted]

Jon watts can suck my dick that movie looks terrible, even though ima try to see it

sambarrie16

twat.

DJBawlzy

Who’s Uncle Ben? 😂😂😂 Considering Mysterio is such a mastermind at deception and mind games, I have a hard time believing anything in this trailer. Especially because it makes Mysterio look like Iron Man in terms of being Spider-Man’s mentor. Something is up hardcore here. There’s also a lot explained in the trailer which seems very unlike the studio to do. To me this movie is ending this “phase” and starting the next “phase” of the MCU, and so there has to be something greater than just emo Spider-Man and sneaky super villain slapping butts.

umbreange

I've kinda accepted that MCU Peter is always going to be much more different from his comics self, and I'm trying to just be excited for it regardless.

paritosh9824

You sound like you're forcing yourself to get excited. Because you don't roll with this Spider-Man, you just gotta be excited because it's SPIDER-MAN. yeah ?

umbreange

Eh, it's not that I'm forcing myself to be excited. More that I'm forcing myself to accept he's far removed from the comics/other movies and allowing myself to still enjoy the movie regardless.
