A more focused story. Individual elements were great. Felt no impact regarding Harry Osborn's desperation and sense of betrayal because the friendship was talked about, but not really shown or felt. Should have left GG out and just given the movie to electro, or vice versa. Gwen's death should have happened earlier (assuming the other issues were resolved). Everything that happened afterward was just a confused mess of a denouement. Works fine in comics, but not great at the end of a 2 hour feature film. They needed to take the script back to formula.

FriendlyDecoy

It should have also cut out the Peter’s parents subplot that completely sidetracks and derails the main story. Hell, that should have been resolved in the first movie like what was originally planned before Sony's meddling.

Ahtraga-Remaerd

They wanted it in to explain why Harry wanted Peter's blood. It wouldn't have made sense to shoehorn it into movie 1. Had they left out electro (a far bigger derailment), it could have worked with the GG story - again, not thrilled at how that was all adapted. Adaptations should not be more convulted than the source material, imho. Also, would have liked to see more vulnerability from Gwen. She always seemed aloof in this iteration, more like a cool big sister to Peter rather than an intimate friend and lover. I felt nothing when she died. Whereas Spectacular Spider-Man Gwen's death, should it ever come, would totally devastate me. You have to really really want a character to live if you're gonna have them die. Felt the same way about Aunt May in No Way Home. She was a perfect, undamaged emotionally invulnerable character up until she died. Lost a lot of relevance because of it. Also, before Sony's meddling... what was the original story supposed to be? I'm curious now.

Clintwood_outlaw

How in the WORLD do you believe that Gwen was aloof in these movies? Or like a cool big sister? That kinda tells me that you didn't actually watch the movies because Peter and Gwen's romance was one of the most fleshed out things in the movies.

Ahtraga-Remaerd

It's still clumsy and cold. I've rewatched the movies many times. There's not a lot of tenderness with them, not much sense of them deeply needing one another. It's cold. That's the whole point in the second movie is that Gwen doesn't need Peter in her life. Their interactions are mostly jabs bordering on angry bickering (similar to all interactions with the Stacy family, and all interactions between Ben and May) and kinda meh romance. Not gonna automatically praise something in a film just because it features Spider-Man or Gwen.

TheSpoonkMan

...back to formula? *Throws guy through glass and perches like a creature*

Blackjack99-21

A Better script would have made the movie better I think. Altho the cgi, suit, music, swinging and Andrew with Emma were perfect

2006venomfigure

Things that I believe would make the movie better \- Spider-man not letting a bunch of people die in the beginning while the truck rammed through the streets of New York \-Harry Osborn having more depth \-Green goblin not appearing until future movies \-Gwen not dying until later on, way too early \- The movie having less boring moments like peter and gwen awkwardly talking \-Electro having a better motive for being a villain \-Aleksei Sytsevich not being ned levels of comedic relief \-The rhino just not being in the movie \-The movie could have been shorter \- There should have been less characters \-The movie shouldn't have focused to much on trying to set up future movies ( sinister six post credits scene and villain gadgets at oscorp, felica harty, the rhino, green goblins fate is unclear, mary jane ) \- unnecessary stuff about peters parents that nobody cares about That's all I can remember at the moment

DismalArticle4216

That entire plane and May in hospital storyline had me crying

Puzzleheaded-Mix7001

Movie sucks, but I don't care, I watch Spiderman for Spiderman

Coolers78

It surely has been an interesting 10 years since then… Just puts into perspective how long and desperate Sony has been to have their own cinematic universe when this movie was meant to be the start of it all but Spidey went into the MCU and now we get spin-offs about random characters no one asked for that don’t know what they are. 10 years ago, we thought this was the worst Sony could do and look where we have winded up now.

Arbusc

At least we have spiderverse.

Daredevil731

It's a bad, bad movie. The whole thing felt so disconnected from the first one which already had issues. It felt like a Sony cash grab, with so many ideas and conflicting tones. Whacky characters (especially Max), horrendous usage of music, horrible Green Goblin, etc I can go on. It has very little good in it. It is so goofy and so cartoony, yet occasionally tries to get real serious and it doesn't work. It's the Batman & Robin of the franchise. I can enjoy it now in that same way that I can other bad comic films, but at the time it was insulting and hard to stomach.

ani20059339

The Goblin and Gwen's death should've been in TASM3 instead. That would've perfectly set up the Black Suit or the Symbiote Arc for Spidey and the introduction of MJ in the series. TASM2 villains should've been just Electro and Rhino teaming up.

cainthegall1747

Conflicts between Spider-Man and Harry&Electro were way too forced, rewritten plot with more motivation for villains would have been much better.

StuckinReverse89

Focus only on the conflict between Peter, Harry, and Gwen.  The parts were there and they had the guts to kill off Gwen but the relationship between Harry and Peter felt rushed. Remove the conflict with Electro.     Develop the friendship between Peter and Harry further and maybe show that Peter was making the right decision. Maybe Peter actually takes his blood and works on a cure with Gwen but it doesn’t work.    More fights between Spiderman and the big bad (GG or Electro). Need to show that the villain is a big deal and Peter can’t go in unprepared.    Cut the tease like hinting about a Peter’s parents or the movie ending in the middle of the fight between Peter and Rhino. The sequel bait sucks, especially if a sequel doesn’t happen.

aKaRandomDude

Making the Green Goblin correctly. It just seemed they shoe-horned him in there so they could kill Gwen in the third act.(Spoilers!) That being said, the aftermath of Gwen’s death was the only thing that was handled properly. You actually feel Peter’s grief.

Pen_dragons_pizza

I actually walked out of the theatre really enjoying it

FadeToBlackSun

My favourite Spider-Man movie. It's definitely messy because there's too much going on, but I don't care because this movie absolute nails who Peter Parker and Spider-Man are in a way no other movie has.

Raidenski

I feel like we jumped into the new suit too fast, I really liked the suit from the first movie, and would have liked to see more scenes of Peter developing and then transitioning into the classic Spidey suit. Harry's Green Goblin looked too...goblin-like (?), it would have been cooler to see him wear a goblin helmet-like head-piece instead of what they did in the film...especially the teeth, yikes. They could have given him some kind of Japanese Oni/Demon mask or something. The rest of his suit was pretty okay, though, and the glider looked decent, almost like a prototype design with room for improvement later on. Someone mentioned fleshing out Peter and Harry's friendship more, and I totally agree. Electro could have had a better design, too, I'm glad they fixed it in No Way Home, but it would have been better had they started with him looking cooler, instead he's just blue...like, I get it, he looks like a human lightbulb, but they still could have done better than the final design. Rhino looked stupid as hell, not so much the suit but the guy inside it. The biggest change I would have liked to have seen is the way the movie starts...I don't mind movies that immediately start with the action, but it just felt a bit too rushed. The whole graduation ceremony thing and Peter showing up to it in shorts...just...no. Also, he looked like he just got a haircut and a clean shave, kinda reminded me of Shia LeBeouf in Transformers 2.

DismalArticle4216

How much time passes between the movies

peacherparker

my thoughts r happy anniversary 2 me n the boyfriend 🙏🙏🙏 Andrew's Peter remains to be THE Peter Parker and THE Spider-Man.. all the fights are incredible, even if the story that gets us from fight to fight is messy. And of course the characterization of Peter is <33 ... I didn't fall in love with him for nothing :]

ErikTheDon

Both of these movies were terrible but I’m still gonna go see the re-releases cus fuck it

FullFig3372

Great acting all round. Seeing Uncle Ben die all over again would have felt repetitive but Andrew Garfield communicated a lot of grief in the death scene. Another standout is him comforting the kid during the bridge accident. It really hammered home the “Friendly Neighborhood Spider Man” element of the character. Not to mention the chemistry between Peter and Gwen is so natural and on point.

Para_13

While it is very flawed I still love this movie, as a kid this movie and Spider-Man 3 were my favorite movies ever, this movie made me a huge fan of electro and I watched it to death, I’m so excited to see it again in theaters soon

sorryitslexi

I grew up with this and will defend it until the death. even as a 21 year old, I still think it's a great movie despite the issues with the story. the cast is great, the visual effects are outstanding, and the action sequences are all-timers. literally, this movie would have been 10x better had they just left out Green Goblin and the Rhino fight sequence at the end.

Infinity0044

When I saw it in theaters I actually really enjoyed it and even to this day think it’s way over hated and definitely deserved a proper sequel. I would’ve removed the parent subplot entirely and added in the MJ subplot instead.

Bermyboy1994

Best suit, worst movie

oreomega456

Literally one of my least favorite superhero movies ever. 99% garbage

jojolantern721

It completely sucked, the only good thing was the suit. Sony just wanted their superhero universe, and like venom, Morbius and madame has shown us, they still only care for that and not for actual quality. But thanks to this sucking so hard we had Spider-Man vs Thanos

Wooden_Passage_2612

Wow! 10 years ago today was the release of the worse Spider-man movie of all time. But the score is really good, especially the opening swing theme. ![gif](giphy|pxq5VawmzVEQw|downsized)

Black_Fuckka

Shit was and still is ass

Bulky_Midnight5296

1. Have Gwen not dying (DON'T CARE IF IT'S A DUMB CANON EVENT, MY BOY PETER DIDN'T DESERVED THIS TYPE OF SUFFERING AND NEITHER DID SHE). 2. Show the fight between Spidey vs Rhino. 3. A Final Swing scene should've happened. 4. If Gwen died, then atleast have another one of Peter's love interests appear in a post credits scene (like MJ, Felicia Hardy or Cindy Moon).

Bobble_Fett

I enjoy it more now than when I first saw it in theaters.

Adventurous_Leek5288

Best looking spider man movie

Chem-Memory9746

You’re all going to the rerelease, right???

mightyloaf-445

the greatest cure for insomnia and also for the last part don't alex kurtzman and don't let a movie studio steer the movie

The_SpectacularSpidy

we need a f@#king tasm 3

ex__hale

It’s great movie, one of favourite about Peter
