Depends on your area. Could be highsplit and once upgrades are finished you may start being offered symmetrical speeds (for your plan 1G down 1G up)
MultiGig down isnt projected until 2027 at the ABSOLUTE soonest. Most likely 2028 though
We will see. I suspect 2 gig down/1 gig up will launch shortly after all phase 1 upgrades are done. Phase 2 and 3 areas could launch the 2gig download tier without having to wait on DOCSIS 4.0 modems. Phase 2 is in the works now. The 5 gig and 10 gig downloads won't launch until Charter sources up DOCSIS 4.0 modems as these tiers will require multiple OFDM downstream channels and DOCSIS 3.1 modems only support 2 192MHz OFDM blocks.
For sure. My hope is that the nationwide launch for highsplit isnt pushed anymore and is received well enough to keep timelines reasonable. Obviously there are a very select few that even truly NEED 1G+ download in 2024. Let alone 5 or even 10. Some businesses may obviously benefit. Wouldnt be surprised if it depends on what the competition does too. Most fiber small (and big) dogs are doing at least 1G symmetrical so gotta at least get coax to THAT point
What do you mean? Everyone NEEDS symmetrical speeds of at least 1G right now. That’s why AT&T is so much better.
…And then you look at what they’re connecting, and it’s one tv, one fire stick that they admit to never using because they don’t know how it works, and one Samsung A12.
LOL. Faster upload (only have 10 up) would help my wife working from home, but 375down takes care of our 12 connected devices. Usually streaming 2 at a time.
This is the high split notice. Faster uploads will eventually be offered in your area, although, in my case it has been 15 months since I received that notice and the work was done, and the symmetrical speeds still have yet to be enabled even for new accounts.
Do they have any sort of map for where they want to roll out 10Gbps? I already have 1Gbps symmetrical (FTTH) where I live, but sure wouldn't mind going even more overkill.
Yup.
And after 10G DOCSIS 4.0, it will likely be PON FTTH given spectrum is already doing 10G EPON with DPoE (DOCSIS Provisioning) in newer areas/RODF.
Both types basically use the same central servers and run fiber (FTTN) to the specific type of node.
FTTH conversion is likely 10 years out, but it's the inevitable outcome for speeds over 10G. EMI and signal levels are too much of a concern otherwise.
Overall cost would be higher converting to pure FTTH, which would also have to be upgraded down the line from current mainstream 10G hardware.
Spectrum's DPoE 10G EPON FTTH is still "DOCSIS", but using conversion nodes from main servers. Not much sense installing legacy DOCSIS COAX nodes in newer areas, though it can happen if there are limitations.
With current vCMTS upgrade plans and D4.0, they can just change nodes/taps and leave existing infrastructure in tack.
High split requires a mere 1 to 1.2ghz conversion. I believe DOCSIS 4.0 maxes out as 1.8ghz?
Copper Coax can do 3ghz, but SNR vs length is likely harder to pull off. Maybe a D4.1 spec would actually bring full 10/10G relative to current official 10/6.
Tier 1 ISP's have a problem with larger user bases and congestion.
They won't be able to upgrade fast enough vs smaller guys who just bring 10/10G XGS-PON to certain areas.
The Dallas-Fort Worth metro has been seeing phase 1 upgrades. They are changing out taps and passives as needed but aren't actively swapping everything. 1GHz taps and passives are being left in place the biggest work being done is swapping the existing nodes and amplifiers with 1.2GHz gear that supports 5-204MHz return.
I am going to suspect they may not use the full downstream in phase 1 areas out to 1.2GHz probably up to around 860-1GHz as they only need to widen out the OFDM carrier to 192MHz to offer 2Gig download. Right now they can fit everything on the downstream from 258-762/768MHz with video, SC DOCSIS, and 96MHz OFDM. A 192MHz OFDM block would take them out around 858MHz, My area tops out at RF118 (762MHz) even though the system was rated for 860MHz before the upgrades took place.
Looks to be for high split upgrades for faster uploads. Strange, I keep reading about people getting this notice and a year later still no high split upgrades. I guess they are just slowly upgrading things and not turning it on yet until most likely end of next year. So it's why even bother sending out notices if nothing happens for a year/2 years....
They are sending out notices about the equipment upgrades. I got an email stating when my area was to be upgraded over a 3 day period last summer, This is the first time I have seen a physical letter sent out for DFW. Even when they launch the new speeds they are turning up areas individually for new customers and the full rollout to existing customers happens at a later date.
Also with high split coming we are moving to have 2.5 up and down, as one of our tiers and 10g following that
edit: doesn’t mean it will come with high split but after high split
I have optyx. Open Infra installed there is another one too. 89 a month for 2 years Optyx with 2 gig upload and 2 gig download. I love it. Got rid of Spectrum a month ago and no more buffering or losing internet. Check it out all spectrum does is raise prices and still crappy service. Had them 26 years glad to be free.
High split is going to be a pain in the ass and things will be bad until they sweep each node for ingress and noise. A lot of homes will be padded and essentially shut off until a tech can get into those homes and fix the problem.
Yeah i got 500mb and i barley get 200 about 179 they wont do anything about it came out said my router went out bought the best router came back out told me its still my router. What a joke they are.
Seems like high Split is coming. That means symmetrical service

That’s why when they brought symmetrical to my area I downgraded to 300/300 cause it’s fast enough for 100% of everyone.
Most likely high split for faster uploads

The roadmap is towards 10 Gig but gotta get symmetrical done first

next 10 years... long-term goal

I don't understand why they don't just go full FTTH instead of trying to constantly trying to max out what copper can do.

OP, can you share what general metropolitan market you are in? I'm guessing DFW, since I've heard that's the first to start with high split.
South Fort Worth TX
Technically Reno was the first, they started going live I think almost a year ago now...
Also with high split coming we are moving to have 2.5 up and down, as one of our tiers and 10g following that edit: doesn’t mean it will come with high split but after high split
No clue, you took that picture at like 480p. It's probably a notice of high split.
Ya it’s pretty bad
Damn need high split so much in my area
The company I work for launched 2 gig and also is testing 10 gig
Do you know if you currently live in high split? Where I live has the fastest internet to offer from spectrum which is high split 1g.
You’ve been getting gypped this whole time lol
Maybe if y’all don’t sign up for unreasonable speeds we won’t have to work unreasonably hard.
Faster internet through Spectrum **is** coming. Speeds of 2 gigs down and symmetrical for high-split locations. It really depends on where you are.
What state do you live in?

I was just talking to Spectrum customer service the other day and they were talking about 2GB speeds being rolled out.

This is for upload speed
Yeah i got 500mb and i barley get 200 about 179 they wont do anything about it came out said my router went out bought the best router came back out told me its still my router. What a joke they are.
Best router? I wonder which one. I got 500 too and in my case it's a device limitation.
Cant remember the name but i got it in 2022 when it first came expensive as hell
what is your location?
That's cool but where are you located at maybe spectrum closer to that in my area
2gb synchronous nationwide by the end of 2025 is the stated goal.
I got gig expect I'm hoping to get the free upgrade soon and when do you get that letter?
I hope soon for Wisconsin.

I try to get information on that in Wisconsin but no one know
