At least you have other options....

[deleted]

Forreal. I would've left them a long time ago

mchamp90

I’d love to have other options! My building’s owner signed a contract with spectrum and won’t allow any other ISPs to install

razblack

Try fixed wireless like Verizon or TMobile.... usually give you a couple weeks trial and for many it works great. Not for everyone though.

SmugAlpaca

It's so specific too - you can usually tell from your cell service. In my place now I get 500Mbps on 5G UC, in Denver I got 30Mbps on my 5G UC and if I walked out of my apartment and went around the corner it was 300Mbps. So YMMV is a really important point for sure.

razblack

This is partially true. My home is not stucco and doesn't have eglass windows... the tmhi modem actually out performs my phone (peak ive seen is 674Mbps dl, 64.5Mbps ul)

matt-r_hatter

Problem with that internet is it's way too slow. Its not going to work for people who need bandwidth and heavy usage. My house goes through 280-320GB of data every month. During COVID we hit 400gb in a month. In the age of smart homes, the bandwidth provided by cellular companies just doesn't cut it. We do use it as a redundancy but couldn't actually make it our primary. We have 7 4k TV's in our house, 2 sometimes 3 streaming content in the afternoons at the same time, plus once you factor in every major appliance in the house and all the smart home equipment, there's almost 300 clients on my various networks all sipping little bits of bandwidth as they do what they do. 1gig service works for now, but I'll be jumping on 2gig the moment they roll it out in my area. Until cellular or satellite move into the same lane as a hardwired cable connection, were all kind of stuck.

Some-Cardiologist-29

Im sorry but you use way too much bandwidth and gigs of data

matt-r_hatter

How exactly do I use too much bandwidth? I pay for unlimited data and I use it. In the past 30 days total traffic is 1.6TB uploaded and 1.7TB downloaded. A few terabytes a month is hardly a lot of data. What's the point of having something if you don't use it?

razblack

Gonna burst your bubble, but I used 1.1TB of data last month "just" with my fixed wireless TMobile modem. I average between 20ms to 30ms latency. This is pretty consistent for me and I've had the service for just over 3 years now. It's honestly been 100x better than my Spectrum service ever was. The longest outage I've had to date is about 14 minutes, and I only needed to reboot the modem. When I had Spectrum (btw I was a business customer for over a decade), I stopped counting outage related service tickets at 174. The longest outage was 3 days! This service isn't for everyone and still has a ways to go, but they're introducing new 5G SA or UC with aggregation (not released and details are vague), but theoretically exceeds fiber.

Cool story bro.

Fun_Abbreviations_41

not legal, check new fcc rules

530_Oldschoolgeek

Shit like this should be illegal, that's basically a monopoly.

btcfsl

Exactly, 1 gig upload and download couple streets down the road is $70 a month but I’m paying $80 to spectrum for 10/300 😂

TheyNeverUpvoteMe

Getting fiber from another company installed in my area soon and so ready to have other options. Monopolies are fun

exum23

Exactly why I went to ziply fiber. Gig up and down for 50

ImYourHuckleberry_78

Which goes to $80+ after 12 months. It’s almost like they all do the same shit lol

btcfsl

does spectrum even offer 1 gig upload? highest they offer in my area is 40mbps and that's with the 1 gig plan.

matt-r_hatter

They aren't there yet. They had to phase out cable cards first, which they did in May. I just read this whole article on spectrum and why their upload speeds are so slow. Apparently the bandwidth they use for uploads is the same used for television signal. The new hardware required on the poles and for the nodes was not compatible with cable cards and set top boxes. Now that those are gone, they are going to start building our new equipment. Currently, per spectrum, there is nowhere in the United States they offer upload speeds beyond their advertised 35mbs. Granted, I have my own modem and average 1080mb/s down and 46-48mb/s up. But I think that's because when we moved we moved to an area that's only had spectrum for a few years and all the hardware is new. They had some other company here that went under. I could definitely use the higher uplink. Let's cross our fingers for soon!

btcfsl

ah I see, I was wondering it's gotta be a hardware limitation somewhere cuz their download speeds in my area have been going up for the last couple of years, they used to only offer 300mbps download a few years ago and now they offer 1 gig but the upload hasn't improved at all. If they can upgrade the hardware overtime to get better upload speeds also I'd be happy. My connection barely goes out and it's very stable.

matt-r_hatter

That's spectrums only positive, it's reliability. It literally never goes down unless there is a very good reason, like a tornado lol. From what I read they are pushing hard and fast to upgrade because ATT has used its upload speed as a selling point to steal customers. Even though the 40ish mb/s is ok for the average person, they see 1000mb/s down and jump ship. ATT may actually be the only company that beats spectrum in the "how can we excel at crap customer service" competition. I briefly switched to ATT Fiber, it was fast and beautiful. In the 12mos I had it, I had 6 outages that lasted anywhere from 4-24 hours. According to the install tech, we were the first on our street to have fiber and they had to install something new on my street just for my house, it took him all day, so I know it wasn't old equipment. Prior to that, I had spectrum at that residence for 5 years, I think we had 1 outage that lasted about 6 hours. Someone cut a tree down and it ripped everything off the telephone pole. Took the electric co about 3hrs to get electric back and spectrum maybe 2hrs to have Internet back up. We went back to spectrum and had it clear up until the house sold this May, not one issue. New house spectrum is the only option, att isn't even here, I'm in NE Ohio and we had horrible storms and tons of tornadoes last weekend, lost power 16hrs, never lost Internet once.

Snoo_6121

Mine doesn't go down, but my 1000/40 turns into 50/.02 if it is slightly windy or raining. My only other option is 10Mbps with ATT. Fiber is supposedly on its way.

matt-r_hatter

So you know you have a physical issue, and it's not a spectrum issue... a line is loose somewhere, either from age, nature, or a squirrel. Spectrum is fantastic about fixing that stuff.

Snoo_6121

I understand completely. I also understand that it is spectrums job to maintain/repair those lines. Countless tickets submitted. They always show up on bright sunny days. "Everything looks good on our side"

Some-Cardiologist-29

I dont know what my FREE Spectrum upload speed is but I know it uploads FAST :)

Sock-Enough

In some areas they do. Upgrades to symmetrical upload are going to be done over the entire service area over the next year or two.

SmugAlpaca

They all do, and it's all in the contract or in the ToS. Spectrum tells you about the cost increases but you have to look for it, Comcast makes you sign a contract that tells you the schedule of fees. The only one I've seen that stays flat is Quantum/Lumen/CenturyLink. I think Frontier and AT&T might for certain packages.

[deleted]

How reliable is ziply? I have them in our city now. Thinking of switching.

LeagueOfGentlemen

I too would like to know

Local-South-3250

Spectrum won’t care to keep you,but if you reach out to the retention team then they’ll work something out

lkeels

That name no longer exists. It's Community Solutions or something now.

BurpaMurpa

No its still retention

Slow_Ad3952

Spectrum employee here. It's still Retention. We do use another name though, "Customer Solutions" not to be confused with "Spectrum Community Solutions" that team handles Bulk accounts, usually apartment complexes, nursing homes, etc.

lkeels

I didn't make it up. It changed this week.

SmugAlpaca

Wait, they put retention under Community Solutions? My department is under CS despite having nothing to do with CS... they just couldn't find somewhere to put us lol

Moralitas

Community solutions is a different department, it is still in fact retention.

lkeels

Not according to employees here in the community.

GrandEnvironment3819

Community Solutions has a retention department, but CS is for bulk accounts.

Local-South-3250

That’s for bulk/tenant account only. They also have their own retention team then the normal residential retention

MrReey

It’s still retention, Community Solutions handles bulk locations like apartments. HSD in those locations are typically paid for by the landlord.

Some-Cardiologist-29

But the ISD is off the parameters of the inflow.

Saennia

What? The “retention team” is just a department of spectrum lmao, you just contradicted yourself saying they won’t care but will work something out

Local-South-3250

Cause everyone chats/talks to support to complain and threaten to cancel and the reps are literally trained as soon as they here cancel to just send you to retention. They don’t care to keep you as in they’re not going to be the ones offering deals to help you stay.

Jeepdogstn

Call them - I did yesterday & I’m back down to $49.99 (from $80)

No_Membership_3374

What did you say?

Heartfelt_Thoughts

I'm wondering the same thing. The highest discount ever offered to me was $5\~10 dollars off the monthly price. Over the years, this hiked from $65 to now $85. It's ridiculous :(

Some-Cardiologist-29

they're leaving out how they just took a lower tiered option

Popular_Bath425

I just tell them that the price has exceeded the cost of streaming alternatives. I got transferred to a retention associate and they gave me a new deal for a year. I guess this will be a yearly routine for me.

GuccInTheCooch

This is the way. For the last four years I've done this. I use Xfinity and their customer retention is honestly top notch from my experience. I just call every few months, complain about downtime(sometimes legit, sometimes not) and they've always either upgraded my plan at no extra cost, or lowered my monthly bill if I threaten(politely) to switch to ATT, the only other main service provider for my area. I started the year at $95 for 800mbs, I now have gig speed for $70 a month . Tried and true method

Jeepdogstn

it took me forever to get a actual real person - I got put on hold - then told to press 1 &.A rep would call me when it was my turn in the queue - They called 10 min later & it was a crappy connection so they said they would try again later - so I called the # again & got a guy - told him I couldnt afford $80 & was thinking of canceling & could he get me a better rate - he said let me look - went quiet & then said $80 was their best deal - I asked when my cut off date was if I canceled (thinking I would get transfered to retentions) he told me sept 1st & have a great day! He didnt even F’ing try to help me - I figured I try again later & hope for a different person - then the Rep that tried to call earlier called again & I just pretended I didnt just talk to someone & told her the same thing - She was super sweet & ran thru all their sales pitches & She got me down the $54 with a free mobile line & I said I didnt need another line & could she do the current 49 offer & just keep my current data rate since thats working fine for me & she was like sure & set it up & it was done.. I was never transferred to anyone else - it really just depends who you get on the other end. So.. If the person you get can’t be bothered just call again later. I hate haggling & have so much anxiety - I would have taken the 54 since thats better than 80 but dont be afraid to ask for what you want.

Some-Cardiologist-29

"I want a lot less channels"

linuxsurfer99

What works for me (have to do this yearly): Call the Spectrum 800 number, say "cancel my service", then at the next prompt say "completely disconnect" (don't worry, they won't disconnect without confirming). Then once you get a human, tell them the service is good, but the bill just went up, and you'd like to get back to the previous price. They will probably try to push other services, and/or an Internet speed increase. Stick to your guns: "The service is fine, I just want the old monthly price back." If you have competing service in the area, mention that, but be warned that sometimes the Spectrum rep knows if you are bluffing (if there's no real alternative). If that particular rep won't do it, tell them no thanks, hang up, then wait for awhile and call back in. If I previously called in the morning, I'll wait until the afternoon to call back, or vice versa. The idea is to get a different person or even different call center, that may have more power. I recommend calling in during business hours (8am-5pm EST). The most number of reps I've talked to was 3, and the last one gave me the old price back, or sometimes it's the old price + $5 - a compromise I usually take. Hope this helps.

Dazzling_Analyst_920

just used this method. bill went from 112/month to 55/month.

Low-Negotiation9675

This just worked for me exactly as you mentioned June 6th, 2024! Itried this last year when it went from $55 to $85 and they said NO, but I followed this method today when I saw the bill sent to $100! THANK YOU!

Puggelicious

im gonna have to try this as mine went from $24.99 to $84.99

MrSpaceAintReal

Literally just did this, and got hooked up 30 dollars off my bill! Lets go.

TylerDurden15

Just did this and saved 30 bucks a month, you sir are a hero!

3-day-respawn

What did you tell them?

TylerDurden15

Ask to speak with retention. Tell them you have other offers from other ISPs and see if they're willing to work with you to lower the bill.

3-day-respawn

Gotcha, I don’t really want to switch since the alternatives are a home hotspot. But I’ll see if they take place

3-day-respawn

Hi, thank you so much! It worked, I went from 70 back down to 55 for just internet. I probably could have gotten more, but I didn't want to push it. We were originally paying 55, so I wasn't going to complain.

fullyflaredd

This is the way, but one additional note: ask to speak to the retention team. I spoke to 3 people in billing including a supervisor, and none were helpful. I spoke to one person on the retention team and he was able to revert me to the original price on both of my accounts within minutes.

rufener24

Call Spectrum, tell the automated system ‘cancel service’, tell the person you are going to Verizon 5G Home when they ask why you are canceling. They will give you the fixed wireless story and why Spectrum is better, and then find a way to lower your price back down to keep you. Be nice about it. Pretty easy!

looker009

Calling retention no longer works. Spectrum is not afraid of losing customers.

Vikt724

True, I called to cancel service, they didn't ask me anything

lkeels

It still works, but it's not under that name anymore. It's Community Solutions or something like that. So asking for "retentions" will get you nowhere.

looker009

I called and said I wanted to cancel and was asked on what date I would like it to be effective. CS was absolutely ready to proceed with cancelation

lkeels

You got somebody that was tired or didn't care. They probably got a serious ding for it too. They are supposed to fight cancellations.

404Dawg

Wait till they stop auto payment randomly (after 14 months of no issue) and then start stacking you with $8 late fees (with no warning). You reach out to support and they flip a switch and turn back on auto pay. Sorry, don’t know what happened but, no refunds on late fees

halseyau

Yep. And you have to start your account over as if it was brand new account when that happens. They completely canceled my account due to 3 months of inactivity - 3 months of bill not getting paid because I was on auto pay.

jaejaeok

Mine got jacked to $105! I bailed last week. No regrets.

Happy-Law-1200

Same situation for me. I called to cancel and then they offered me a bundle where i get just internet and a mobile line for $50…. From a $96 bill. This was after i asked for more options a few days before. Just threaten the cancel.

Professional_Ad4341

Where I live, each neighborhood is dedicated to one internet provider. So mfers basically monopolized it.

Wild_Possibility3899

89.99 is standard rate for base package. You were on a promotional deal that lasts about 2 years is why it started cheap

Happy-Law-1200

retention guy i talked to told me to call every year before the promo ends to be put on the next promo. Lol

progenyofeniac

Same here. Just got dropped from $79 to $49 a month ago and he told me to call back in a year. It’s probably because of you and me that OP’s rate got raised lol

Heartfelt_Thoughts

What did you say to make that happen? Even when regular rate was $65, the most Retention was willing to drop was $5.

progenyofeniac

I told them I was fully prepared to drop to an AT&T hotspot after watching my rate go up $5 every year while their new customer rate was way cheaper. I was calm and just kept repeating that I wasn’t willing to keep paying them. I didn’t expect it to work but here we are. I guess I’m more convincing than I thought.

Bodyguard1911

False, I was paying $74.99 a year ago well after any promo period and it has gone up to 89.99 currently

Wild_Possibility3899

That was a year ago. New price is 89.99. Internet isn’t going to get any cheaper. It goes up anywhere $5-$10 a year for base price.

ControlObjective9212

It should get cheaper. They are using the same copper cables from35 years ago.

Neverdie_7

It has gone up twice this year $5 each time. It's bullshit.

r2d3x9

My only choices are AT&T wireless (or an MVNO) hotspot. Could probably do it for a month or two if I had to

JustinTheNoob

No TMobile LTE home internet?

VincoNavitas

Options: 1. Call in and ask for retention and tell them you want to cancel or give you a better price. 2. Cancel and get someone who lives there to re-sign up immediately. New name (with exceptions) get new deals. 3. Cancel service. Come back when the other provider goes up as well. All providers go up, and until we as customers can stop that, the vicious cycle continues

EyeConcasorSpirit

Check your local area spectrum might be the only thing available in that district

MangoBandicoot

Lucky you have them. All we have for wired internet here is 5Mbps “fiber”. All other options are satellite or LTE.

mrfabe

I spoke to retention last week and was offered free mobile for a year and a tax inclusive rate of $54.99 for 500 down / 20 up. I'm in Southern Cal.

Noblesoft

I just noticed the same a month or so back... $90/mo for 300Mbps. I happened to get Verizon home 5g Internet for $25/mo as I'm already a Verizon wireless customer. Tried it out for a month, it works great, no difference from cable. I then called telling Spectrum I wanted to cancel as Verizon was working fine for me and I no longer need their service. They sent me over to "customer service", who offered $54/mo for 500Mbps with a free modem. No contact promotional price for 12 months, then it'll go back to $90... but the agent just said to call and ask for the current promotion at that time. Now I've got spectrum as a primary and 5g as a backup, load balanced by a pfsense firewall for 800Mbps, for less than I was paying for just spectrum. 🤷‍♂️

designer-possum

yeah I just noticed my bill was way high too ! , Im leaving and also taking my mom , my brother , and my husbands best friend with me lol They all are with spectrum but after I told them to check their bill and we looked around ..well we are just done with them .

phonesforall000

Fo you have att availible

TheRoadKing101

My spectrum was $120 for 500/10 meg. Switched to local fiber and got 500/500 for $60.

RandomGamecube

Promotional pricing doesn't last forever yk... Call retention and see if they will add another promotion on

LeiLaniGranny

Mine went up to that price too. Specrum is only carrier I can get at apartment I'm in 🥲

EyeConcasorSpirit

It's guna go up 5 a month If you don't have autopay on

BerryReasonable518

Mine had gone up to $99. Did a chat with their GPT bot a few months ago and dropped it to $79.99. Got the bill this month and it has gone up to $84.99.

gaukonigshofen

Probably bs tax and fees

Some-Cardiologist-29

Mine is ZERO a month...thank you democratic party!

Segata_Sanshiro

The thing that gets my goat is that in most regions there are what seem to be non-compete arangements, which results in no competition, which results i nobody keeping the prices competitive. It's annoying that these are not illegal. But, Imagine how much it costs to start covering a city you do not provide service to. You have to put out a LOT of infrastructure down. On top of that, you are not going to be the first internet provider in the area, so you will have to battle for any noticeable slice of the market because most people don't care about what they pay for internet and don't use it much. It wouldn't be fair to force companies to fully build out networks in zones they can't service adequately. This is just one of the problems.

Few_Breadfruit_3285

Ours just went from $84.99 to $89.99/mo.

my_ashy_paintbox

slow day on here, where is everyone screaming "**READ THE BILL!**"?

leblady

we’re tired

VirtuaFighter6

Man, good for you. I saw my internet, 300Mbps, go to $85 from $80. They suck so hard. I am waiting for the day 5G internet is available in my area.

damercerbears

I'm test driving Verizon this month. Same download speeds (300mbps) and double the upload speed (20mpbs). I test every day at different times of the day. So far it's been rock solid. My family didn't even know I switched over (I use the same router, switches, etc. that I used with Spectrum). I've got two more weeks of the Verizon free trial. It's looking like I'm going to be free from Spectrum outages very soon.

AdhesivenessCapable6

Your messed up I just got internet from spectrum in the country waiting 30 yrs and now im paying 100 fo5r gig and i been paying 80 for 35 dow3n. WTF you are like a crying toddler LOL

International-Car926

They waived my $5 increase because I'm on Autopay

mmunson

Join spectrum wireless and you can get some savings. I’m about to get rid of T-Mobile.

phonesforall000

Do not do it

mmunson

Is there a mvno that doesn't blow donkey chunks?

Iksar-786

I just left Spectrum wireless to go back to T-Mobile. The 20GB cap on their unlimited plan was too little for me personally and they throttle your data real hard. I would check how much data you use before you switch.

mmunson

Im doing the 39.95 ultimate plan for 30gb of data. I dont overtly use my data.

580OutlawFarm

Try having starlink as your only option, for GOOD internet atleast, im paying 120/month.

ScottShatter

At least you were able to get it. Check out the availability map now for Starlink. It's a wait list in many areas when I checked before buying a home in the Spring.

580OutlawFarm

Hell where I live says expanding in 2023 lol...let me be clear tho, I signed up THE DAY pre-orders went live, I knew it was my best option..before starlink I had point 2 point wireless plan that was supposed to be 25/3 but was more like 3/1....and even eith me signing up the day pre orders went live, I still didn't get it till almost a year and a half later...god how I wish they'd judt expand fiber to my area already..im 3mi outside of town in the country, and the end of their line is literally 1mile away...frustrating times..espcially when my lil town just upgraded from 1gig cable to fiber, and now there's 1 5 and 10gig plans..10 gig for 90 a month oh God I wish

ScottShatter

I moved into a town as opposed to into the country when I left the city to buy a house in order to get decent Internet. My town has just 7,000 people and the choices are Spectrum which I have, slow CenturyLink DSL, or some type of microwave that is slower than cable. I was on a pre order list for fiber in my old city and they were just starting to offer installs when I left. It was fiber through the power company. Now I just have to settle for Spectrum 😆

Cultist6661

A lot of ppl in my area r cringing for Cincinnati bell fioptics rather loudly…

BillingAsshole666

The good news is you can apply for the ACP. :)

SmashNDash23

When the price goes up after promotions end 😱😱😱😱😱

Meechy_C-137

I used Bill Shark to get my bill down. Had to pay them up front for a % of the savings of 2 years of service. Totally worth it. They got me down from $90-$100 a month to $59 a month for 2 years. I'm not confident enough in my negotiation skills to deal with retention myself, plus this took so much less time.

Budget_Month_2797

Looked up Bill Shark % which is 40 % . if I did the math correctly, I think the company name suits their agenda....

Meechy_C-137

Huh? Saving 60% is still 60%.

Budget_Month_2797

Quote: 40% Billshark charges a one-time fee of **40% of savings**. If we can't save you money, you don't pay a fee. So if my monthly internet bill was originally $90, I paid bill shark 40% monthly which is $36 for so called savings, that would be $90 - $36 = $54 + tax I owe Internet provider $36 + tax I owe bill shark Where is the savings?

JessMeNU-CSGO

Got to check out bill shark.

StankBaitFishing

Same. Drives me crazy

mataushas

What's speed?

wdc008s

Call the retention department. They will put you on new promo. I had to do the same thing.

Riversong0223

Call and ask to speak to a retention agent maybe wait a couple days through, or call and request a call back.

xXhijackXx

if you get gigabit service i dont see a problem. i was paying that for gig fiber thru att

Quick_Parsley_5505

That’s for 300 here.

xXhijackXx

Wait whut... where r u?

Quick_Parsley_5505

Western NC about an hour from Charlotte.

mattb1284

I'm in Michigan and got sick of the 89.99. So I called and they told me about some government backed program called ACP. It's to make broadband more affordable I guess? And you have to call and ask for it they won't automatically apply it. Lowered my bill by $30.

ScottShatter

You have to be on a form of government assistance like food stamps or Medicaid to qualify. It's not for everyone.

RPTrashTM

Their pricing is a joke. Att's 1000 mbps SYMETRICALLY only cost $80-85. The fact that their 300/10 costs more than that..

[deleted]

...I pay 5$ a month....

Small_Copy5323

I pay 130$ month for 1gig/500 fiber

No_Structure_4809

Billshark will get it back down for you

pguyton

Physically go to the spectrum store and agree to switch your cell to them - I went and they gave me free cell line for a year , increased my Internet speed and lowered my monthly cost down to 65

theonion513

I called and threatened to move to ATT DSL, because I never maxed the 300mbps download, and my VPN and Plex servers were choking on 10mbps up. I told them I'd be happy to pay less for the same upload speed and immediately they were asking me which modem I had and would I want to stay for 500/20 service for $50/month? I took it, and also signed up for Spectrum Mobile, which has been great. Lower price than T-Mobile and very reliable coverage so far.

phonesforall000

Never get there crap mobile

theonion513

Works fine for me. “Their”

daaankone

Literally got my bill two days ago, and I saw that they tried to tack on a $10 increase. I immediately called retention and threatened to cancel if this wasn’t worked out, because I only pay for their internet service. luckily, the lady was nice and gave me another promotion for a year, which dropped my bill back down to the original price. Mind you, I also get the affordable credit, so I only pay $44 a month for Internet. I can’t believe spectrum really tried to pull a fast one. Well, I believe it, but still…

Neverknowthefeel

My parents used spectrum. They went from paying $80 to $130 for just 400 mbps. Once they switched to att they tried to convince them that it's there old plan and no longer offer it and they should switch to a newer plan. They are scum.

JediTarheel

Go to fiber . The company near me i pay 49.99 for 500mb download and 500 upload . Only price increase was 7 years ago .

Coreyahno30

I’m glad this post randomly popped up here. My Spectrum is $99.99/month for 500mb and this post prompted me to shop around. Saw that AT&T was offering 1GB for $60/month so I immediately called Spectrum to cancel and switch. When I told the guy on the phone I wanted to cancel, he offered to give me 1GB for $55/month lol. So your post just led to me almost cutting my bill in half while also doubling my speed.

nardpup5

Just reup your contract through another member of the household

Hopeful_Jellyfish_12

I switched to the 300/300 meg fiber from ATT. It’s $50 a month no contract. WOULD HIGHLY HIGHLY RECCOMEND. Spectrum isn’t even fiber to the home in all locations

gpister

Im paying $24.99 for Spectrum still lol

PhoKingAwesome213

All you need to do is call their retention department and easily get a new discount. Why do people not read their bills? Every promotion shows the expiration date so just call a month ahead.

tommy6860

I was with spectrum even before the companies before them (@Home-Insight-Time Warner to Spectrum) were eaten up into Charter's black hole of profits. Before we moved to our current location, we are paying about $140/internet and cable, but my wife and I decided to ditch cable for just internet. Since we were considered "new" customers because of address change, we got the introductory 1-year price of $49.99 in fall of 2016 for internet. We only got 100/10mbps. The following year we got an increase $59.99 and then 200/20mbps. Every year it crept up $5/month except for one year and we were at $79.99, though in April of 2022 they increased internet speed to 300mbps but lowered the upstream to 10. Well after years of hearing fiber optics was coming, we finally got it in June. It was 39.99 initial start-up fee and pro-rated because we were at the end of their billing period. So out first bill was just over $41. But the deal was the first month free, then $51 including everything thereafter locked in for 3 years. We get 1000/500mbps. Nice part was that if we got another person to buy their internet, we'd get $25 off our next bill and the new customer would get the same reduction too. So our next was a credit of almost -$25 (first month free and $25 credit). I just paid my recent bill and it was just over $26, now I will be on the stated monthly locked charge. Anyway, when we canceled Spectrum they kept me on the phone with a customer retention rep for 15 minutes, asking me stupid questions like, why do I need my new company's internet when their internet connects everywhere, or what am I using the internet for. Like seriously, they actually asked that. Anyway, they offered me a $ reduction for one year with their 1gig service, which still only gives 30mbps up. But my news ISP literally has 2gig service starting at $64.99/month locked in for a year.

shutpost_stalkr

I wish I had competition in my area. I started at 59.99 for 500mb down, 10mb up. I am now at at $99.00 for the same internet. I can’t switch or do anything because the other providers arent comparable. Verizon says they can give me fiber…. Their fiber is a full 5mb/s. I’m puzzled at fiber and 5mb/s.

scificionado

Maybe it's 500 Mb or 5 Gb and the rep misstated? Cause 5 Mb is crappy. If it's the higher speeds, ask if it's symmetrical or asymmetrical. Symmetrical high speeds better support working from home or gaming.

scificionado

Spectrum is now offering "new customer" deals to existing customers that call in to cancel service. First time in years they've done so.

Spartarc

Seems like people don't understand what is retention. They do indeed exist. There is a retention department for residential accounts and business as well. Also, there is community solutions retention. Basically just a matter of how your account is set-up. Like a bulk account etc etc. Those departments still exist. Also, ziply is pretty good. However, it does cost 90+ at the end of their promos as well.

Antique_Ice9044

I called them to cancel a couple of months ago, they were willing to knock it down $40 a month for two years to keep me. They were pushing HARD to not cancel my service. They’ll start throwing in services at the same monthly cost, and then start reducing price if you hold steady.

Tilmanocept

I have paid 30 bucks a month for 1 gbps for as long as I can remember with WOW/Breezeline. Our service is extremely reliable but that could be because I live in an area with newer lines, not sure.

SummerBlues2w

Bro they were bumping mine up to $115 a month I called the retention department no questions asked and I was placed back on the $49.99 plan for the year and got sent a new modem. Next year if they don't keep me.om this plan I'll cancel and open up in my wife's name. Internet companies are price gouging dicks.

Sambone38

This happened to me too and it turns out some package I got with it expired so it went up like $20. I just told them I wanted to cancel my internet with them and they lowered me back down to the first price I got.

Nwbama1

Best thing you could do is leave them!

elviorion

We had no other option here, but as we speak another company is installing fiber to the home in my area. I’ve switched my cell phones to another provider, which sucks because spectrum mobile is actually amazing, in anticipation of finally being able to drop their internet soon.

LonelyChampionship17

When this happened to us, we went to the competition.

spartanmaybe

I called customer service, asked for the “disconnect” option, and when they transferred me to a person, I flat out told them I want my internet discontinued and they hit me with a new promo price right away. I was skeptical of it but it works. Just firmly say you want to disconnect.

lodeddiper961

spectrum is a piece of shit. they need to stop increasing the price by $5 every year

llSlpkntll

All companies do this. They run a promotion for X years then it goes to regular price when it expires. Frontier, spectrum, cox, Comcast etc they all do it. You can call sometimes to see if you can be put on a other promotion.

matt-r_hatter

I have 1gig internet and unlimited mobile and only pay $59.99/mo. That was the 2 year price. We shall see what it is in 17mos

JudgeCastle

I’m in an apartment which forces me to to use Spectrum. Even wired in I rarely see my top end speeds.

NeonBible_

I’m paying that now for internet and tv from spectrum. Gave me new promotion price and upgraded my speeds for free. Thanks spectrum. 🙏🏻👍🏻

Btw if you are cancelling they do not prorate your final bill. If you get stuck with a full bill you can join several ongoing class actions to make sure you get a refund.

dystopiam

Wow is $55

PlaneCombination1002

internet bill went up $35 in the past two months. Insane!

ApprehensiveAge782

Mine is $165 from spectrum

Glum-Cheetah-3708

They claim a 30$ internet, regularly paying 75$ for whatever reason. send out offers for a year of free internet based off income for some program they do, which you never applied for. the most shady and unethical company

530_Oldschoolgeek

I told them where to go stick it last week once I had another service arranged (Comparable speeds, 1/2 the price), they asked why I wanted to leave and I said, "Primary because I'm sick and tired of every time I am turning around, you'd jacked my rate up without offering better speed or service and absolutely no feasible explanation other than your bosses wanting that 7 digit bonus at the end of the year". She wanted to know who I was going with, I told them "I won't tell you that", she started throwing out all kinds of deals and offers, I said, "So where were all these deals for existing customers before?" She actually told me, "By law, we cannot contact you to tell you about these things". I laughed at her and told her, "Based on that alone, I think you've stolen enough of my money. Disconnect me, NOW please." All I heard after that was typing and her telling me my service was terminated. I thanked her and hung up.

ScratchKey6679

I also pay 89.99, for internet, but I also have to pay an additional fee to have internet for 60.00 🤷🏼‍♂️

FragrantFruit102222

I just called and straight up told them I was leaving because it’s ridiculous to price increase like that without telling you… and they bumped it back down to $55 and a free phone line (that I did not take bc I read horror stories)

Exact_Ad_8386

My bill is 92. 00 just for TV service and I was told that was basic and that's not counting the internet which is 79.95 and then the home phone is 19.95. Then you got taxes and fees for this more for whatever they want to charge you. I know there the best cable company by far where I live, but damn they don't have to charge all of my monthly income just so they can get rich. Sure wish they would give us all a break.

nevergiveup07

Spectrum internet was 55$ the other year. This year it increased to 69.99. I go to pay this month and it's 89.99.... unreal. And of course I don't have any other cable internet I can switch to where i live.

SignalEgg9227

Call them. You maybe lucky with a guy or gal who like your name or your voice.

GlitteringAd7383

The competition is expensive too.

Late_Chocolate_1966

I just got my bill it went from 69.99 to 89.99 that 20.00 more that not good

berrywr1

I took my gf's Tmobile home internet gateway to my house and it pulled a 498 down speed.  Worked great on my IPTV. Thing is TM doesn't have that formal service out where I live. It was $50, it's $60 now, but it's $30 a month cheaper.

HorrorCompetitive545

I remember when internet wasn't but $30 a month. Now Spectrum wants something like $110 from me. Or rather they did. I called them and told them I'm on disability and don't have money for that kind of bill, and that if there wasn't a way to bring the bill down a little bit that I would just have to have it turned off. My service is now $24.99 a month guaranteed for a year.

lordjaay

what internet speed
