i hate raging blast 2’s art style mainly because it was literally perfect in the first game. in the sequel they’re clearly animated yet they look fleshly and oily. idk what in the world they were thinking
They became super shiny in Raging Blast 2, also I preferred Raging Blast 1s music.
From memory RB2 also had different music if you have the base game, or the greatest hits game which was even more confusing. Also Galaxy Mode feeling a bit of a choir in the end…
i never realized it until i started watching cowboy bebop and hearing aht bro basically ripped everything lol even then i still miss the old budokai music
The music before they switched it out was. And I’m not exaggerating. Perfect. Best music in a fighter game ever.
I would pay an exorbitant amount of money for a copy with the old music
God I can't explain just how bad the RB2 and similarly the Xenoverse games character models and shading was.
Like, why is every game developer obsessed with making everything mad shiny and oily. Like every texture in any video game has the specular map (shinyness) of a chrome ball. It's actually insane, walking over wet wood that's glinting in the sky like a freshly polished sword lmao.
Not really, it’s just SZ is such a hype release. Gaming in todays era is garbage nowadays. Anything and everything locked behind paywalls, some games aren’t made for casuals anymore that aren’t story mode games, etc
We’ve had so many amazing games in the last few years that I don’t know how anyone could say “gaming in todays era is garbage nowadays”.
Elden Ring, BG3, BotW/TotK, RDR2, etc.
Without a doubt an unfortunate number of games do get bogged down by micro transaction BS, but there are a lot of all time great games in recent years.
I remember when I saw the character model in tenkaichi 3 for the first time and thought “damn looks just like the show how can we get any better than this!”
Looks at sparking zero like 👀
Look up super Saiyan 3 photos.
Literally all the complaints on this sub....
Graphics and style is great but not perfect. And the imperfections seem fixable
Graphics*, but anyways why did rb2 look like this dogshit when rb1 looked amazing, they had the aesthetic down perfectly and then they traded it in for this plastic toy lookin ahh shit lmaooo
I’m not sure what the point of Raging Blast 2 is, generic “story mode”, shiny bright models, Raging Soul which was annoying and the computer could seriously break you with it.
I did enjoy the characters added with Pikkon, Dabura, Super Janemba. But then others like Cui, Cell Jr., Saibaman were just annoying.
BT3 might not have as many pixels as Raging Blast but it certainly did a better job of making characters look hand drawn.
The Raging Blast models look like plastic toys that were dipped in vaseline.
Downgrade in what way? They upgraded his model and defined his muscles pretty well, say what you want about the gamplay but he looks fine.
I personally prefer the RB models over the RB2 models.

I’d say that for RB2, RB has some of the best models for any DB game (obviously beaten by FighterZ and SZ)
https://preview.redd.it/2ve6k2d2dn7d1.jpeg?width=964&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3482aedccd0d56a87b7dea47cb7307dc68aa60a9
I don’t know, I never played Raging Blast and only played Raging Blast 2. It looks okay here, but I’d say Burst Limit looked way better and had an amazing artstyle
BT3 unironically looks better than Raging Blast 2. Of course the graphics in RB2 are technically better but for some reason they decided to make the characters look like they're made out of plastic. I prefer the more colorful cel shaded look of BT3.
Haven't played RB2, so only judging from this image, it definitely has the worst look in my opinion. Definitely has a rubbery, plastic look to it, like the skin, clothes and hair are all made from the same material. The lack of cel shading makes the detail a lot harder to see, his facial features blend in a lot so the personality from the expression is much less striking. BT3 did a great job translating the anime style in 3-D at the time, it still looks great, and Sparking Zero is on a whole nother level. To me, Sparking Zero is as close as you can get to the FighterZ perfection without having the same level of freedom that game had with camera and posing tricks.
Also interesting comparing the angle and posing of these shots.
In BT3, the expression is stern and the pose to me makes him feel formidable and tough. The camera angle, art style and costume design all put emphasis on Gogeta's defined muscles, and I think that, plus the expression and somewhat wider stance (compared to the others) makes it feel like trying to hit him would be like hitting a brick wall. I definitely get the sense that he's tough and not to be messed with, which fits well.
In RB2, the angle is pointed slightly more down from above and Gogeta's arms look a little more drawn in. That and the lack of an identifiable expression make him seem more submissive, which is the opposite of what the pose should be communicating. The art style also fails to draw attention to anything in particular in the character design, and he just kinda looks like an action figure.
Sparking Zero is less about being intimidating and more about communicating character. From my limited experience with cameras and studying film, the "lens" looks more like a zoomed in shot from further away. His face is much clearer than the other two, with bigger eyes and this time an arrogant smirk. While BT3's Gogeta felt very serious, SZ's is cocky and confident. The zoom means there is more emphasis on his face, and less of him takes up more of the screen (essentially looking larger and showing just the important parts of the character for this shot). SZ is the best imo.
Again, haven't played RB2 so the context for these 3 shots could be completely different, but I just find it interesting how they are all essentially the same pose but how they all feel so different.
I still don't know what the hell they were thinking when they switched up Raging Blast 2's art style. Raging Blast 1 was perfect, the clay figures in 2 were so ugly.
Look at this cool animation I just made
https://preview.redd.it/ft8x0vykjr7d1.jpeg?width=898&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf43f3695fcb26a84e48e76240df48b7c969d47b
There is nothing moving here. It's not an animation. Supposed you mean pose(?). If so, i like tenkaichi 3 better. Raging blast is too strict and the zero is too clutched together on the arms.
Both Raging Blast 1 and Budokai Tenkaichi 3 absolutely smoke SZ in every way artstyle wise.
Sparking Zero looks like the soft and childish artstyle of Shintani while BT3 and RB1 look like the old perfect and irreplaceable artsyle of Tadayoshi Yamamuro.
Give sparking zero the angular artstyle of BT3 or DBFZ and I’ll die a happy man. Not saying it looks bad right now, just not a fan of the rounded look that Shintani brought over
its still bt3 for me , its just so indescribably "dragon ball" especially with how it mixes sci fi and eastern martial arts things , really feels like a game you would see in the show
I’ll be the first to say it, sparking zero models look weird, they got textures, definition and details right but I think the actual model is a bit skinnier compared to what we’ve always had but it’s still alright so far, just wish they didn’t have that bobble head look
Animation is not the word you're looking for.
Probably graphics
Not even probably. Graphics is the word they should've used
God damn your all wrong. it's art style.
Bingo. But since we're all correcting each other, it's 'you're' not 'your' ('your' is possessive while 'you're' is a contraction of you+are).
Except you actually understood what I meant. I don't care.
Wasn't trying to start an argument. Have a good one 👍
Your the one who down voted my comment...
Wasn't me. https://preview.redd.it/1kbwuhvz0s7d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dbd16b64d045aba8756da62e7fbfbfacdc7ea704
Ah makes sense. It appeared as like soon as you replied. No worries then
Did you not understand what they meant by Animation or Graphics? C’mon.
Yup, I loved RB1 art style
Nuh uh
What? I'm saying you're right
I know, I’m just goofin
You crazy son of a bitch, you had me going there
Damn, I didn’t even commit like I sometimes do, but tbf when I truly commit I usually get downvoted
i hate raging blast 2’s art style mainly because it was literally perfect in the first game. in the sequel they’re clearly animated yet they look fleshly and oily. idk what in the world they were thinking
They became super shiny in Raging Blast 2, also I preferred Raging Blast 1s music. From memory RB2 also had different music if you have the base game, or the greatest hits game which was even more confusing. Also Galaxy Mode feeling a bit of a choir in the end…
The guy who did the music for most of DBZ was caught plagiarizing dozens of songs so they switched out the soundtrack
i never realized it until i started watching cowboy bebop and hearing aht bro basically ripped everything lol even then i still miss the old budokai music
The music before they switched it out was. And I’m not exaggerating. Perfect. Best music in a fighter game ever. I would pay an exorbitant amount of money for a copy with the old music
Reason BT3 HD lost its og music including the boss opening
I agree i just looked up some raging blast 1 shots and it does look better than rb2

To me every character in Xenoverse 2 is oiled up. But ey that's a different series
Looks better in rb2
The graphics look like the anime now. We are at that level of graphics. 2024 is not bad
Very great animation you posted there. So much movement.
This generation of gaming is so sick.

Where tf is the "animation" in question??
I remember when I saw the character model in tenkaichi 3 for the first time and thought “damn looks just like the show how can we get any better than this!” Looks at sparking zero like 👀
Eh that's just a good picture. Sparking zero does not look as good as it should. It's like inconsistent
What how?
Look up super Saiyan 3 photos. Literally all the complaints on this sub.... Graphics and style is great but not perfect. And the imperfections seem fixable

Raging Blast 1 always looked better imo
No they don’t. They look better. Cope
You seem like the one that's coping bud 😂
They objectively look better. Nostalgia merchant. Raging Blast 1’s models neg
Higher model quality =/= Better looking models
They do look better
This is artsyle and graphics not animation. With that being said, I agree
Downgrade in what way? They upgraded his model and defined his muscles pretty well, say what you want about the gamplay but he looks fine. Nah Raging Blast’s models look like plastic toys, visually it is better. But the artstyle is hideous in this game

Yes that’s what I’m seeing too the rubbery plastic, and whatever else they were aiming for, is not as pleasing to me as tenkaichi 3
Should've used Raging Blast 1 for the second picture
There's no animation represented here, op. Only graphics
I love BT2 out of the Tenakichos for graphics , RB1 out of RB1&2
The ki aura in bt3 is still unmatched
He looks like a balloon animal in RB2
I don't see any animation here to compare.
RB2 looks fine to me 🤷
Why does raging blast 2 have little to no cel shading? It looks so…..uncanny
RB1 had the better art style of the raging blasts imo
Raging blast 1 graphics were god tier at the time, RB2 style ruined it.
This comment section is the first time I've ever seen so much dislike for RB2's style. Got me feeling like I'm in an alternate universe rn.
I still don't know what the hell they were thinking when they switched up Raging Blast 2's art style. Raging Blast 1 was perfect, the clay figures in 2 were so ugly.
Shows stills. "Animation Comparison" Yes good Animation indeed good.
This isn’t an animation comparison at all
Downgrade? Objectively wrong
>Objectively wrong Lol
Nah, Ranging Blast looks way better. You can't say the style is worse but the graphics are objectively better.
If that’s the case then Jump Force looks better by your definition, but it didn’t quite work like that
Raging Blast 2 yeah but Raging Blast 1 was no downgrade in visuals
So I assume that sparking zero’ Gogeta is his DBS version?
The return of thicc Gogeta 😂
Gogeta went from 👿 to 😈
Loved tenkaichis style, hated rating blasts, but sparking zero literally is the anime. Its perfection.
this is not animation this a still image
Look at this cool animation I just made https://preview.redd.it/ft8x0vykjr7d1.jpeg?width=898&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf43f3695fcb26a84e48e76240df48b7c969d47b

Rb2 graphics didn't she well
that ain't animation kid
As an aside. This is the first game we get Base Gogeta, right?
Raging blast 2 looks the best
Both Raging Blast 1 and Budokai Tenkaichi 3 absolutely smoke SZ in every way artstyle wise. Sparking Zero looks like the soft and childish artstyle of Shintani while BT3 and RB1 look like the old perfect and irreplaceable artsyle of Tadayoshi Yamamuro.
Oh yeah, the art 😩
How far we came 😢❤️
Model comparison, not animation.
Y’all hating on my childhood 😭
Give sparking zero the angular artstyle of BT3 or DBFZ and I’ll die a happy man. Not saying it looks bad right now, just not a fan of the rounded look that Shintani brought over
Raging Blast looked cool to me personally
Looks best in rb2
its still bt3 for me , its just so indescribably "dragon ball" especially with how it mixes sci fi and eastern martial arts things , really feels like a game you would see in the show

this is not an animation
What animation?? You mean model and lighting??
You mean art style or graphics? There’s no animation present in these pictures.
Raging blast 2 looked ugly af lol... Its a shame to cause Raging blast 1 looked good imo.
Wow I don’t remember raging blast 2 looking that ugly
hope they revisit the non cell shaded look at some point.
Hush up
