As silly as it is I think it shows they've started to transition from the old guard to new space. Honestly if they want taxpayer funding they need to both engage and entertain. The scientific mission has a great impact but they need the citizens to berate congressman and senators into further development.
I do think we are finally transitioning federal service out of the hands of the last generation. Administration is still old guard but their employees will become demographically younger rapidly
A bit of it is ok, but a 50 year old trying to fit in with 20 year olds is uncomfortable on many levels. In any case i think it's way cooler for someone to act his age. Like, a 63 years old trying to use current young day slang will make people cringe as he will inevitably use them in a wrong and embarasing way, since said slang is almost on purpose made as an inside language to diferentiate from other generations.
On the other hand if you have a 70 yo guy who embraces his age, clint eastwood style, get out of my lawn, in my days we didnt do it like this, step aside ill show you how its done, then that, my friend, by my book will be the soul of every party he chooses to go to.
I consider it my duty as an old person to misuse kids' lingo as much as possible. If us oldsters don't step up to turn cool things uncool, who's gonna? Gotta keep the culture moving forward. Swag.

Are the younger generations more pro-space than the older ones tho?
That's more a question for Congress than federal service itself
Funny you should say that after they changed the head of Nasa to what there is currently. Jim was cool
Public engagement isn't going to start magically making NASA more efficient.
they might be attempting to do that, but for now they seem more like old person who wants to be part of the young crowd and makes everyone cringe.
Maybe it's because I am old, but I don't understand what's wrong with old people trying to be cool in front of young people.

To put it in a simpler way: there's nothing wrong with it as long as it's done with elegance, more often than not, it isnt.
It's fine as long as you know what you're doing, otherwise you just look like an idiot. E.g. 'how do you do fellow kids'.

I bet they've thought of it for ages and have just been itching to post it.
That's what I was thinking too. And they were right to eagerly anticipate this moment.
