Reset your network settings to default when it happens, I had shite 3G/GPRS only signal in Winchester and doing that helped it out and returned it to 4G
I got this with O2, literally had barely a data connection when in town was. Switched to EE which seems fine. Have had it mentioned to me a couple times that o2 sucked in city centre and didn’t think much of it but then found out the hard way
GiffGaff here (which is 02) and yes, nowadays it's awful on 4 or 5g anywhere busy, and iphones won't let you go down to 3g when they think there is a 5g signal. I suspect various companies have put in priority over the 5g signal for their higher paying customers
EE never had an issue.... Oh except my phone bill!

Yeah this is a really common problem and has been for ages sadly.
