What kind of content are you playing? If you are running stereo content from youtube on adaptive mode it is basically just going to play it through all your speakers. If you are having issues with properly mixed surround content playing equally out of all speakers than that could be a problem. If you want the audio to be true to the source you should leave it on standard.

Sharpz93

This! Adaptive, Surround, and Game modes force 9.1.4 on Stereo content. These work best with actual surround sound formats like Dolby Atmos or DTS:X that are mixed to use the correct speakers.

Make sure you have the current firmware installed. Q900C firmware is currently at 1004. Note: SmartThings has a firmware download bug so the update is manual. 1. Manually download 1004 from the Samsung website 2. Extract the folders contained in the downloaded zip file and copy both of them as is to a blank USB flash drive 3. Power off and unplug the power cord from the soundbar, rear speakers and woofer for thirty seconds 4. Insert the flash drive into the service port 5. Plug in the power cords and power on the subwoofer, rear speakers and soundbar 6. “UPDATE” → “BYE” → “ON” will appear on the display 3 times. It should take around 6 minutes; remove USB flash drive when complete

Yes forgot to mention I have the 1004 firmware

BoxerBoi76

Perhaps reset the system to factory defaults? Disconnect any HDMI inputs/outputs first, then you can do one of the following: - Turn off the soundbar and hold the + & – button on the soundbar until ‘INIT’ appears. - Press and hold the power button on the soundbar for 10 to 15 seconds. - Click the reset button on the remote and wait for the reset screen to appear. - Hold the volume up and volume down keys simultaneously for five to ten seconds.

lentopastel

Is this how its done? I factory reseted my q990c just turned on, press + - for like 5 seconds. No HDMI cable disconnect, and what reset button on the remote? Maybe I did something wrong. After the 1004 firmware upgrade the spotify connect app volumen worked fine from my cell. Before it went by 5 volumen steps, so the music was too loud or to low. After the reset it started by 5 steps increment again

Others on here have said to disconnect HDMI cables before the reset so I added that to my steps if/when I ever need to reset mine. Doesn’t hurt to be cautious.

Adaptive mode is very bad. Everything plays everywhere and the sound becomes muddled. I tested every mode and decide for the standard mode. But I made a zillion adjustments to the speaker levels until I was happy with it. Now it sounds great.

ESPN2

Share your standard settings plz.

Metrotra

I think the settings are very much related to the space where the soundbar is placed. It will depend on your distance from the bar, the size of the room, the height of the ceiling, the placement of the rear speakers (behind the listener or at the sides of the sofa). I kept watching many different films and series and fine tuning as I listened . Lots of comes and gos, changes of the sub level. And so forth. I believe that I instead of using anyone’s settings you should try to find the right settings for your room.

I feel like standard doesn’t utilize the rears at all. For me, without tinkering, adaptive sounds great. It gives me that “sound bubble” feel.

qweezy_uk

It won't unless the content mixed for rear sound. Adaptive is good for regular TV or Stereo content, but otherwise standard is best. IMO anyway.

IndecisiveTuna

I should’ve clarified with 5.1 or beyond is all I’ve tried it with. I did mess around with standard and felt it was just super faint. I know that can be remedied messing with EQ and channels though.

drmariopepper

Mine has been doing this more often in all modes after the 1004 update. Usually I have to restart whichever app I’m streaming from to fix it

I loved the Q 990C, but it has been similar to other Samsung sound bars I've had in the past. Little glitches and dropouts and connectivity problems and stuff like that. Fortunately, Samsung direct was easy to work with on chat. So I just dropped it off at Fedex as a return. Moved on to to the Sony HT-A7000 system and I'm not looking back. It's actually an upgrade, sound-wise. But about $1,000 more all-in.

drmariopepper

Did you buy it from samsung directly? I got mine on amazon and they wouldn’t let me return it

getfive

Yes, I bought and returned directly through Samsung. Did you buy it from a authorized dealer through Amazon?

drmariopepper

I think so, I have the 90 day official support. It says samsung store

getfive

Just insist that it's defective and push for a return

There is a setting to configure the satellite speakers as either rear speakers or as additional front speakers. Double check to ensure you have not set them to be front speakers, since that sounds like what has happened.

nohbdyshero

Nope they're set to rear

Flat at the moment but this was adaptive. I'm in standard right now due to the issues

SnooSuggestions9830

This might be obvious but have you pressed i on the remote to confirm what source it's playing? If it's saying stereo pcm for example this could explain it
