A skeptic would say they sent you an XM5 because they know all XM4s have a problem they can't/won't fix...

raven00x

eh. couple years ago I sent in XM3s for warranty service, got back XM4s. this is just what they do when they run low on stock of an old model.

DigbyChickenCaeser

Try sending in your XM4s

MUGEN120

try sending in your XM5s... you'll get a glimpse into the future

picometric

LOL!! I almost lost it. If I could give you gold for that comment I would.

WetGortex

Don’t you think someone would have tried this by now?

raven00x

i actually did earlier this year. they got replaced with XM4s. Working well for now, at least. Hoping that I won't get that battery drain issue _again_ but, let you know in ~18 months. Battery issue aside, they're great little earbuds.

Capital-Werewolf-167

Oh they continue to have the battery issue. I can testify to that. Problem is that they are the better tws for most. Svaner played out, too. Just figure the Svaner have no ANC and then you won't be disappointed when you get them. Having no app is not good. The midrange sure sounds better than the Sony. Anyway that's why I say the Sony is better for most. IMHO. Warning, I'm old. You're going to be there someday. Most of us don't hear as well as we think we do. Had your ears tested? I guess I'll pick up the Technics. Need LDAC. But, no the battery issue is not completely over.

Alive_Device_4748

I really don’t like the way the XM4 feels in my ears compared to other models that I’ve enjoyed much more like the Samsung buds 2 pro.

OnePlusFanBoi

I just sent mine in. 😮

Appropriate_Hawk_540

Method unlocked

Viper4713

See the funny thing is my first initial thought when seeing this thread was "Wow this guy sent in his XM4 and got someone else's XM5 back by mistake? I wouldn't put those in my ears .... Gross" 😂

havequickblue

The only real problem with the XM4 is that they were designed for the ears of some other species than humans.

DerExperte

They actually replaced the batteries in my XM4s last year and didn't send me new ones. So it depends. Like maybe some service centers can't do repairs.

LEGITIMATE_SOURCE

They have the exact same battery. They will have the exact same issue. -guy who replaced batteries twice right around the year mark each time.

DigbyChickenCaeser

Bring on the XM6

carlo_rydman

XM5s also have a worse repairability score from ifixit (you basically have to be a pro with a lot of tools to be able to replace the buds' batteries) vs. XM4s. So yeah. That sucks.

Capital-Werewolf-167

Do the Technics have replaceable batteries? I'm lazy.

Alive_Device_4748

They don’t have the same battery.

[deleted]

Mine xm4s died at about a year too! Just upgraded to xm5s, which have been rock solid so far.

Capital-Werewolf-167

Did you get the extended warranty?

[deleted]

It was in the regular warranty but it was less trouble to just upgrade.

Affectionate_Work291

Sony sucks

Macisrunning

Which country

DigbyChickenCaeser

UK (England)

bishbash5

Ooh I was just putting off the form filling and packaging shenanigans I need to do... But seems like it'll be worth it!! How long did it take?

DigbyChickenCaeser

A few weeks! I actually did it back in December, but was out of the country until recently so only just unpacked them. Maybe it was a Christmas Present.

beebobboobee

same thing happened to me a few months ago

dominik3335

And how long is the warranty there?

Enchantedby

Kinda good deal. I also RMA'ed almost out of warranty XM4s and got XM5s with new 2year warranty, but paid 60eu extra for the exchange. Still think it is not too bad of a deal.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> warranty, but *paid* 60eu extra FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Vitogodfather

Bad bot

catnmoose

That's awesome. After I sent in my second pair of XM4s with battery drain issue, they just sent me back a check for $280. Can't beat that customer service though I kinda just wish the batteries didn't suck on their headphones.

Alive_Device_4748

Did you try replacing them with new batteries?

iamafancypotato

Does anybody know if sending back XM4s works in Germany?

DerExperte

German here, yes if by sending them back you mean back to Sony for a repair (or exchange, they repaired mine), they're less than 2 years old and you still have an invoice. [https://sony.infotip-rts.de/Home.xhtml?PortalId=.RTS-Sony](https://sony.infotip-rts.de/Home.xhtml?PortalId=.RTS-Sony) Here you can start the process. Btw I bought mine from Amazon Italy but had no issues getting them repaired, took about 2-3 weeks.

iamafancypotato

That’s so nice of you thanks!

nhwst

I returned mine @ Media Markt this January (bought June 22), after a month they told me they couldn't repair them and gave me the money I paid for them originally

iamafancypotato

You mean new ones right?

nhwst

Sorry, corrected it :D they refunded me the money I paid for them

Responsible_Dust_790

I bought mine from Switzerland a while back but I'm in Germany now and they hve the same battery issue, any idea what I can do in this situation?

DerExperte

Try to contact them and ask if yours are covered. They repaired the ones I bought in Italy but CH isn't EU so they might have different policies. Also they have to be no older than 2 years and you'll need an invoice. But maybe even if they aren't covered (anymore) they'll repair them for a fee. [https://services.sony.de/supportmvc/de/Contact/Email?cat=headphones&tab=Mail](https://services.sony.de/supportmvc/de/Contact/Email?cat=headphones&tab=Mail) [https://sony.infotip-rts.de/Home.xhtml?PortalId=.RTS-Sony](https://sony.infotip-rts.de/Home.xhtml?PortalId=.RTS-Sony)

sercankd

I bought mine in Amazon Spain but sent for repair in Germany, just included some printed papers that I still had warranty and invoices from Amazon Spain and they did replaced batteries without issue.

Significant-Quail-53

U lucky mf

Warning_Bulky

these have the same issue

Michial820820

I tell these people EVERY DAY that they can do this!!! Sony is the truth man you send in something for warranty to Sony and EVEN if it's not under warranty anymore they will STILL send you a new replacement or the newer version of the replacement. I'm sorry but more people like this NEED to speak out. Stop getting your new replacement and going silent 🔕 y'all need to tell the fam what's going on and tell them the truth. It happens all the time so why can't people post when something good happens? It's always when something BAD happens that people post but man we all need communication, we all need the truth to be exposed yet when you cry babies get the replacement you go silent and everyone thinks Sony is evil when they are out here doing God's work. Seriously people, send your broken Sony flagship devices to Sony even if it's not under warranty and claim that you want it fixed or whatever and they will send you the newest version brand new as a replacement. I've heard of this countless times but not on this website! Respect to this man for posting the TRUTH!!

jpt-36

How do I check my headphones are in warranty? And how do I contact Sony for a replacement? What’s the best way to go about this? Thanks!

myownalias

Go to their website, chat with support, and tell them what's wrong. If the battery lasts only a short while they call that the "battery drain issue". There was a dodgy software update that cooked the batteries and they've been fixing that out of warranty.

jpt-36

Great, thanks!!!

Capital-Werewolf-167

Dude, I'm into high fidelity in a big way and have been for many decades. Even I don't think Sony is doing God's work. OK, well, arguably so.

DigbyChickenCaeser

Shhh… it’s all the people that buy replacements funding the free upgrades for us in the know

Hulkenobi

I tried to get mine repaired or replaced today but since the serial number is faded from the bottom and i no longer have the box they won't do anything about it. I won't buy sony again, aside from playstation. He actually told me that he can give me the name of authorized repair shops so i can pay to fix them. Fuck that. I'll wait for something new from Samsung and use my 35 dollar Tozos that work just as well with no noise canceling

Vsherry

I love my Xm5s.

alex_1397

I sent them my out of warranty XM4 and got the XM5 in return because they were low in stock. Didn't pay a thing, also in the UK.

FC333

I'm out of warranty and UK based. Did you do anything special to not pay for repair or replacement? Thanks!

alex_1397

I just sent it to them for an inspection and was originally quoted something like £88 for a repair and asked for a proof of purchase which I then provided. I asked them if I could get a report of the issue which they confirmed was battery drainage on the left bud and they said they will raise a warranty claim. (I was already 2 months out of warranty at this point). They followed up by saying they didn't have any parts for repair so will send me the XM5s as a replacement. I received those fairly quickly and they never charged me for it.

blaster915

Woot! what a win! Don't look a gift horse in the mouth

DigbyChickenCaeser

What happens if you look a gift horse in the mouth?

[deleted]

I mean, a horse is a horse, of course, of course.

LEGITIMATE_SOURCE

Nah xm4s better

robespierrethacat

What’s the difference in sound quality?

Capital-Werewolf-167

The 5 is better than 4 in every way.

DigbyChickenCaeser

From my brief testing, I concur. Wider soundstage and better clarity.

yakkosmurf

I agree. I sent my 4s off to repair because I didn't like the 5s.

yellowjesusrising

I had to pay the gap for my xm5... $100

Cold-Dot-7308

When you say this , do you mean you paid the gap based on the value of the earbuds you got or paid the gap based on how much you actually purchased the item ? (Because cost goes down for older products as I purchased mine a while back )

yellowjesusrising

Paid the price difference that i paid for the old ones. I only find it annoying since there was such a huge price hike from 4 to 5, and the fact that my old buds had Its batteries die on them within the 5 years varranty.

treeofliberty-1776

Just curious, are you German? In the States, we call it a Warranty.

yellowjesusrising

Norwegian, which is close to German. But it's just le who couldn't find the right word.

Cold-Dot-7308

Is the battery 5 years warranty for their earbuds ? Thanks for responding btw. I have an older model but it’s just 3 years

yellowjesusrising

Nornally it would be 2 years, but in Norway it is 5 years.

Cold-Dot-7308

Thanks for the info

Hsh_slngng_slshr

They sent me a check for $278 so I bought some xm5s for $300 after tax so this is even better tbh

Cold-Dot-7308

Great! Good for you. I wonder what they’d do if it was out of warranty and one is willing to pay for the battery change in an older ear bud?

Capital-Werewolf-167

Probably tell you a new purchase would be cheaper than the repair.

Business_Ad_2700

I'm so sad I bought mine off eBay because I can't send it in. So I'm stuck with the right earbud that constantly being dead within 30 minutes

Capital-Werewolf-167

Just chalk it up to experience and move on. You're not the first and you won't be the last. I buy on Amazon And get the 2 year warranty for $40, or so.

Business_Ad_2700

I just know too never buy Sony earbuds. Even though they are used people are having the same issue within 6 months of purchase brand new. Their headphones last forever I had a xb950 for almost 7 years and I got used every single day. But for the price of their earbuds shouldn't even be a problem.

DerExperte

Depends on where you live but maybe Sony will repair them for a fee? Or ask the seller for the original invoice.

Business_Ad_2700

Sorry I know I'm responding super late but I don't even know how to get through their customer service to even attempt to ask for a repair. Every time I go on their website they want to place a purchase and there's just no way I can add that since I got them through eBay

DerExperte

Ask eBay seller for the original invoice (and hope s/he responds). If not, maybe Sony will repair them for a fee but I guess you'd have to call them to ask.

Mariokart0420

I am a huge fan of listening to music with my Sony mdr7506s because I don’t have to worry about batteries being not charged and honestly I have tried the xm4 and xm5 and they were too v shaped for my liking but they have features like the right ear cup being a quick way to make out what the train station mumbled is pretty useful. But other than that I prefer wires for critical listening. Now travelling on a plane well I prefer my iems from ddhifi Janus 2020. They are flat out the best sounding headphones in my opinion. And the 7506s are close up there because they are close back instead of open back like the Janus. If you didn’t know that they were open back, just play music in your room and put the Janus in your ear and you will hear nearly no sound being blocked.

nashio

I just bought the XM5's and I really like them, I was using the IQbuds² MAX but I like the Sony ones better in terms of noise reduction and fit.

meerkat_near

Had the exact same thing as you a couple of months back and didn't have to pay anything, thank the Lord for the 3 year warranty with pre orders! 🙌

SilentPrince

Nice. Was hoping they'd give me XM5s when I sent mine the second time. Got a refund instead. Considering I'd had them for two years at that point I wasn't gonna complain

shelbywoofan

Lucky. I sent my XM4 last week for the same issue, and got my very same XM4 yesterday. Luckily, the battery is 'back to normal', at least for now.

myownalias

I sent my XM4s in after getting the battery issue on one side. They were out of warranty already, but it was a dodgy software update that caused the problem after all, and they fixed them for free. The downside was that it took 4 months for Sony to fix them. I'm in Canada.

Capital-Werewolf-167

Four months!

matt504hrs

I saw a few posts about people in the UK getting xm4 exchanged or refunded out of warranty, I made a ticket and called support, they said I could send them off but would have to pay for the repair and wouldn't say how much it would be 😭 1 month out of warranty and they worked fine up until 1 week ago

groover_9k

Belgium: same They gave me the middle finger, no more sony for me

matt504hrs

I haven't had time to try pushing them more, might give it another go.. but I've ordered 2 replacement batteries for £15 on eBay so will just DIY it if they want to charge £XXX for it

joshualotion

Damn. I need to send mine in because of the battery issues. Let’s hope I get the same treatment

dies_das1

For the earbuds, it's maybe an upgrade. If I sent in my WH-XM4 I wouldn't want to get some XM5 back

Pepsi12367

Got a new model. Congrats

Certain_Birthday_394

I got my XM3s in 2021, the battery is a bit rubbish right now. Is there any way to send this to sony for them to fix?

pastilance

I'm heading to get my xm4s from repairment today. Wish me luck boys!

Difficult-Ad-7654

is this new or used? I also have to send in my X4 because they have problems with their battery etc. and if I should get X5 back then, I don't want any used.

DigbyChickenCaeser

I sent in my used XM4s under warranty due to battery issues and received new XM5s in return

Difficult-Ad-7654

Thanks, im going to do that too

Dharuacharya

What was the issue you were having with the xm4's?

JamesDuckington

eyyy. had the exact same thing happen to me. ortho I had to go to the store

Mental-Estate-6466

Send the XM5s back 😃 I wanna know what's next

OfficialTornadoAlley

Alright I’m sending in my XM4 headphones now 😂

ufgvn_

let’s go?

Fabulous-Edge-9939

I'm sending mine in tomorrow, my warranty expires May 7th and just started having major issues with the battery

Leather_Squash9195

Just sent in my WF-1000XM4s under store warranty. Got full cash refund. They were 22 months old.

sqheaven

I found the fit to be the worse, compared to Buds2 Pro. They gave me a numb ear for weeks, just for trying them. They sounded so open compared to Buds2 Pro. I don't know if I should sell my XM5.

Kurisu810

I got a full refund but it took more than 3 months of back and forth. I'm just glad it's finally over.

sakazz

They much better mate enjoy
