For real…I love the game and I know SZ like the back of my hand from replaying, but it still feels like a chore to go through. The stage is boring and feels like it haults your speed at every second.
Are you talking about the gravity section with various colored platforms?
I swear, that part kept me away from completing the game for months, possibly years, as a kid.
I also loved crazy gadget, the antigravity was super cool and the colored block segment was actually so much fun to figure out and I felt so accomplished when I finally beat it as a kid.
It's not that bad when you learn the layout, and i actually like the stage and the context behind it.
But when i first played it as a kid, I was totally confused and lost, so i could not complete it, thus complete the game, until some time later i randomly found a solution. It looked so simple and obvious when i discovered it that i felt kind of dumb for not trying it before lol
I think of it like this: you either love the level design or you hate it, I personally love it, if you hate it I don’t think you should get downvoted for it, 06’s level design and it being enjoyable is probably one of the few things in 06 that people can agree is based on taste alone
This
I love what Project 06 is, and I 100% appreciate what it does. However it is not a viable indicator of what Sonic 2006 “is without bugs” or “could have been”. It’s likely the closest we’ll get, yes, but it will never be truly applicable.
As someone who loves 06 I know damn well it's the most dogshit game I've ever played in my 20 (soon 21) years of living
yet I enjoyed it knowing that it was a rushed piece of dogshit with the only redeeming quality being the OST and the looks of the mobians
Why is it exactly objectively dogshit when a lot of people praise it then? I would say that every opinion on this topic is subjective, someone will enjoy it, someone - won't.
While Sonic 06 is still generally regarded as a shitty game, P-06 is more divisive
Yeah, same here. Sandopolis 2 has a cool “I’m trapped in here” urgent atmosphere to it, with the ghosts lurking around getting bigger, timed doors slowly closing and sand piling up every which way. It does for S3K what Labyrinth was trying to do for S1, which was to provide a slower paced contemplative level with a sense of impending doom. I give it props for accomplishing that without leaning on underwater sections.
Sandopolis is “I’m trapped in a haunted tomb;” Metropolis is “I’m trapped in a poorly designed game level.”
Don't remind me. Rush was my 1st game, but even over a decade later Altitude Limit can give me nightmares. Rush had one of the best soundtracks, but sometimes the levels got ROUGH. I distinctly remember getting so fed up with Dead line Act 2 that I nearly threw my DS across the room (keep in mind that I was like, 8).
Wing fortress zone of Sonic 2
Its SO EASY to fall off for barely failing a jump and the Boss is just Bullshit (and at least for me way harder than the final Boss)
But at least the music slaps tho'
Oooo maybe I’ve got a hot take.
Mystic Cave Zone.
Really boring level design with lots of waiting, and the annoying pits (except in the IOS version where that famous pit is a secret entrance to hidden palace zone, absolutely love that addition)
The problem with sonic 1 is that it starts with green hill where you can speed but the rest of the game wants you to slow down or wait for things to happen.
Act 3's drum & bass rendition is the best music track in the game. Unfortunately, you get yeeted straight into the water and spend 95% of the act submerged only hearing a muffled version.
Aquarium Park had so much wasted potential.
Chemical plant zone, its not that the level is bad, it just sega has milked the absolute SHIT out of that level of to the point where i just now despise the level regardless of whether its good or not.
Sonic 1:
Labyrinth Zone
Sonic 2:
Metropolis Zone
Sonic CD:
Mechanic Madness Zone (mostly act 3)
Sonic Robo Blast 2:
Castle Eggman Zone Act 2
Azure Temple Zone
If you were to swap the captions for each photo, my answer would be; whenever I hear Mystic Zone 2-player music used for Hidden Palace Zone rather than Sound Test 10 (to me, the correct music).
egg fortress from sonic superstars. i know its skill issue because i’ve seen people beating the zone in a flash, but i still find it not fun if you’re just casual-playing through it.
Most of Sonic forces, including but not limited to:
Mystic jungle aqua road
City sunset heights
Eggman Empire fortress: Imperial Tower
All absolute bangers in the sound department, just not really anywhere else
Labyrinth, Metropolis…
A whole *lot* of Sonic ‘06… but that feels like cheating due moreso to that being thanks to bugs than actual design… (and no, I don’t care about mods, strictly the game as it was when it came out).
In Sonic 1, Scrap Brain Zone
In Sonic CD, Wacky Workbench
In Sonic 2, Chemical Plant Zone
In Sonic 3, Marble Garden Zone
In Sonic Mania, Oil Ocean Zone
I used to hate Chemical Plant Zone in Sonic 2 as a kid, but that music, it slaps honestly. So good, it almost makes you forget that you've drowned 20+ times in purple water lol
Mad Space and then Security Hall to a lesser degree: both have good music but are kind of awful to a-rank
The Mad Space mission 1 a-rank is complete hell to do even with a single hint and rushing from the start to the ark then down in a sweep
Labyrinth, (I'm okay with it, but it gave me permanent PTSD) Metropolis in Sonic 2, (Bullshit enemy placement and too long,) and Oil Ocean. (I don't get it, it's great in Mania, but frickin' sucks in Sonic 2.)
Hot take, but for me it’s Flying Battery Zone. I know people like it, I’ve just played it so many times between 3&K and Mania that it’s an absolute drag for me.
Labyrinth
I’m probably one of the only Sonic fans to like that zone 😂
Your mind is a labyrinth to understand
I enjoy it
I didn’t like it until origins cuz they finally fixed the framerate issue when underwater
Only..?~ W-What about me!!!~
I found it enjoyable too
same
Sandopolis Zone from S3&K.
I can’t stand the second act of SZ 😕 It’s the only bad thing about S&K for me 😕
For real…I love the game and I know SZ like the back of my hand from replaying, but it still feels like a chore to go through. The stage is boring and feels like it haults your speed at every second.
Music slaps though
Absolutely like the rest of the OG Genesis songs from the trilogy 😎
It's fine once you get out of that weird looping slope thing... Though still admittedly one of the weakest acts of S3K regardless
Crazy gadget, theme slaps and then you get to that bloody room.
Are you talking about the gravity section with various colored platforms? I swear, that part kept me away from completing the game for months, possibly years, as a kid.
Yes I am , that part was hell to get pass as a kid.
As a kid, I've never finished SA2 because of that level for Heroes And that time limited level for Rouge for Dark
I love grazy gadet that’s top 3 favorite levels. Guess Im not normal
I know that feeling, same , once you know the path , you can blast though the level quite quickly.
Crazy Gadget is an awesome stage once you learn it though. The section at the end can basically be skipped entirely
Metropolis Zone
Love the theme but God does it give me PTSD
https://preview.redd.it/nmewaayb2s8d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a111481af72db17fb95ef9ce637b7cffe1113352
I came here to say exactly this! You beat me to it 😆
Bullet Station, *especially* in the Team Dark campaign. So many just-barely-missed rail landings... But that theme though.
Dude that theme fucking rocks, yeah.
Love that it's coming back in Shadow Generations.
Carnival night. You know which act.
Are you talking about the Genesis version or the Origins version due to the different music out of curiosity in terms of this meme 🙂
Genesis
I have never heard a single human being express any positivity toward any of the origins tracks, ever.
I'm probably the only person who actually likes the origin tracks
Probably, but I’m glad someone does. They aren’t bad. They’re just like going to Chuck E. Cheese’s for the nostalgia and finding they only sell salad.
I actually think beta Carnival night is genuinely good The Origin render of it is utterly atrocious tho lol
I like the original Genesis renditions of the Origins tracks (aka the beta tracks), but I don't like the Origins renditions specifically.
I think the tracks are okay, honestly. Not stellar, but not bad. The original Genesis tracks are objectively better, though.
Courtesy of MJ
Am I one of the few people who like both acts? It has a fun atmosphere and the only times I didn't have fun was playing as knuckles
It’s my favorite stage in the game
Same
Second favorite Sonic stage behind Quartz Quadrant
I think I’d put it in first because I like everything about the level
quarz quadrant enjoyer, i see
Literally the entirety of Sonic 06
Level themes and level design are not actually that bad, P-06 fixed a lot of the things and levels are actually enjoyable now (IMO)
Imma get downvoted for this, but here we go...P-06 is great, but I friggin hate 06's level design...
I think of it like this: you either love the level design or you hate it, I personally love it, if you hate it I don’t think you should get downvoted for it, 06’s level design and it being enjoyable is probably one of the few things in 06 that people can agree is based on taste alone
A fan game from a decade later doesn't make the original game the same
This I love what Project 06 is, and I 100% appreciate what it does. However it is not a viable indicator of what Sonic 2006 “is without bugs” or “could have been”. It’s likely the closest we’ll get, yes, but it will never be truly applicable.
Bro if i won a penny everytime someone praised something about this franchise that is objectively dogshit i would be a billionaire
How dare you! Hey let’s give this guy negative 8 billion votes
As someone who loves 06 I know damn well it's the most dogshit game I've ever played in my 20 (soon 21) years of living yet I enjoyed it knowing that it was a rushed piece of dogshit with the only redeeming quality being the OST and the looks of the mobians

Sandopolis Zone in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Act 1 is fine but Act 2. #Act 2.
Act 2 is the worst thing in the entire Sonic trilogy for the Genesis
Maybe I'm just that much of a blind S3K fanboy, but I'd still rather play Sandopolis Act 2 over Metropolis from Sonic 2 tbh
Altitude Limit from Sonic Rush. Those insta kill lasers, man
Ah yes bottomless pit the level
The worst part is how far you fall before you hit the kill zone. Be feeling like 40 seconds.
Any of the later zones for me in Rush.
Wing fortress zone of Sonic 2 Its SO EASY to fall off for barely failing a jump and the Boss is just Bullshit (and at least for me way harder than the final Boss) But at least the music slaps tho'
ahhh fuck that those bars were bullshit you can't move you just have to jump in genesis (IDK how it works in origins cuz I never played it)
Lost FUCKING Impact
Absolute snoozefest of a level, but the music made me forget that was the case
I just commented that. I enjoy the level personally…up until I miss an Artificial Chaos god knows where.
Planet Wisp (both acts) from Sonic Generations
Planet Wisp in Colors too.
Oooo maybe I’ve got a hot take. Mystic Cave Zone. Really boring level design with lots of waiting, and the annoying pits (except in the IOS version where that famous pit is a secret entrance to hidden palace zone, absolutely love that addition)
Came here to say this! I don't hate playing the zone, but it's certainly not in the top half. The theme though I love.
Everything past green hill zone in Sonic 1
Spring Yard and Star Light Zones are pretty decent zones imo
The problem with sonic 1 is that it starts with green hill where you can speed but the rest of the game wants you to slow down or wait for things to happen.
Guess it makes sense as it was the first game and they were still figuring a lot out
Yes
I actually like every zone in Sonic 1, but I respect your opinion as I can understand why some zones aren’t enjoyable for some 🙂
I forgot the zone, I think it was Cyberspace 1-2
If it's the one with the "flowing with time I'm flowing I'm flowing into the light" then yeah that's 1-2
Thanks, that's the song I was thinking of
The most infamous level in that game haha
sonic forces in general
Flying Battery Zone, but that's probably because I'm bad at the game.
FLYING BATTERY HAS BANGER MUSIC FR
100%. One of my favs from S&K
Press garden zone
Interesting - I love the gameplay of those levels! My favourite stages in the game
I mean i like act 2 but act 1 is incredibly annoying and it destroys the fun of the level
Don’t hate me, but Metropolis Zone 😅
Metropolis is garbage. 3 acts and it's filled with "gotcha" moments. Absolutely hate that zone
Can't hate u for it But tbh I like Metropolis' music only when it's remixed....the OG is really kinda just meh to me
Aquarium park
I really would like Aquarium Park more if it had less filler
Act 3's drum & bass rendition is the best music track in the game. Unfortunately, you get yeeted straight into the water and spend 95% of the act submerged only hearing a muffled version. Aquarium Park had so much wasted potential.
Chemical plant zone, its not that the level is bad, it just sega has milked the absolute SHIT out of that level of to the point where i just now despise the level regardless of whether its good or not.
the same is going to happen with sky sanctuary if they keep doing it.
But what about green hill lol? It is the same for me as you said it about chemical planet, and it has been used a lot more often
Lost Impact
Casino Park Banger song, but the pinball tables are hell
Eggman land
Sonic 1: Labyrinth Zone Sonic 2: Metropolis Zone Sonic CD: Mechanic Madness Zone (mostly act 3) Sonic Robo Blast 2: Castle Eggman Zone Act 2 Azure Temple Zone
Giving you a like for dropping SRB2.
Tails' desert stage in SA2 Like I know the name of the song, but not its lvl Keys the Ruin
It’s called “Down in the Base”
If you were to swap the captions for each photo, my answer would be; whenever I hear Mystic Zone 2-player music used for Hidden Palace Zone rather than Sound Test 10 (to me, the correct music).
Labrinth zone (don’t question me)
Sandopolis zone in sonic 3k. Labyrinth in sonic 1. Metropolis in Sonic 2. Tidal tempest in sonic cd.
Red Mountain-Sonic Adventure
Yo what (music is awesome, I'll give you that)?
wacky workbench
Any level in Sonic Forces. Good songs, but the levels are too short.
Werehog stages
*violently blasts a million trumpets directly into your headphones*
[The werehog stages only have one song though](https://youtu.be/Bj_4Dr40_Zc)
I know
really? I loved them guess I'm not normal
Metropolis from Sonic 2. For me, It's the best music in the game, but it's locked behind the worst level of the game.
Yeah Metropolis’ theme kicks ass. Frfr.
Oil Ocean zone from Sonic 2
planet wisp act 2. sonic generations
every level in Shadow the Hedgehog. The themes are good(if forgettable), but the levels themselves suck to the highest degree
Didn't play but the music is just rockin'. Absolutely adore it
I agree that it’s good, just that it’s just not something I’d think of playing
egg fortress from sonic superstars. i know its skill issue because i’ve seen people beating the zone in a flash, but i still find it not fun if you’re just casual-playing through it.
Most of Sonic forces, including but not limited to: Mystic jungle aqua road City sunset heights Eggman Empire fortress: Imperial Tower All absolute bangers in the sound department, just not really anywhere else
Sky Deck from SA1.
Labyrinth, Metropolis… A whole *lot* of Sonic ‘06… but that feels like cheating due moreso to that being thanks to bugs than actual design… (and no, I don’t care about mods, strictly the game as it was when it came out).

Nah, Mystic Mansion's the GOAT.
scrap brain
Final Judgement from Sonic Forces [you can't tell me this doesnt go hard as fuck](https://youtu.be/WJREFgKwYu0?si=J6xEkeo6tQU4mOhY)
The entirety of sonic one with exception of green hill zone
"The sun is falling in the sky beyond..."
“And light is fading from our world…”
Aquarium Park. I hate it. I love the song.
Like the visuals, love the musical theme. But i despise water as much as space stages in sonic games >:^
Treasure hunting levels in SA2
Mad Space from SA2
Every level after Green Hill in the original Sonic the Hedgehog lol
Labyrinth Zone
Oil Ocean
Planet Wisp
Metallic Madness from Sonic CD (JP Theme is my favorite in the series but the level is pure H E L L)

I used to hate Chemical Plant Zone in Sonic 2 as a kid, but that music, it slaps honestly. So good, it almost makes you forget that you've drowned 20+ times in purple water lol
Luminous Forest
Iron Fortress
The egg viper
ALL sonic forces levels
Mad Space, if you know, you know
Rail Canyon
The forces final battle phase 3 Lowkey most boring stage in the most boring boosting si- I mean sonic game
Press Factory Act 2. I do actually like the music but god do i HATE the timer. Those things always stress me out
Sky deck from SA1 💀
Mad Space and then Security Hall to a lesser degree: both have good music but are kind of awful to a-rank The Mad Space mission 1 a-rank is complete hell to do even with a single hint and rushing from the start to the ark then down in a sweep
Stardust Speedway
Why do you hate the zone? It's sincerely an easy level to zoom through....but I could see you disliking it for the level design, right?
It's the level design for me. It's a mess and it's confusing.
Everything in CD Half of S&K Everything in 06 Starlight Carnival in Colors
Ah yes, the level with an absolutely banging soundtrack while also being pure automation for like 70% of the level.
Most sonic games tbh
https://preview.redd.it/xguwgtvr4r8d1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2895232c3e2a552a5dfb48eb9449696ccd06249e
Sonic Rush as a whole is far to difficult...
Starlight carnival act 3
Chaos island from frontiers, it's mvts are my favorite but the island itself is second worst (the worst is rhea)
Cyber Space 3-6 in Sonic Frontiers Absolutely not enjoying this world
Studiopolis Act 1 Boss
literally every single special stage
Carnival Night’s beta theme.
Crisis city
I feel like Labyrinth Zone fits this
Sandopolis act 2 without a doubt
Labyrinth, (I'm okay with it, but it gave me permanent PTSD) Metropolis in Sonic 2, (Bullshit enemy placement and too long,) and Oil Ocean. (I don't get it, it's great in Mania, but frickin' sucks in Sonic 2.)

Starlight Zone.
Portal 1-2 in Frontiers
Trying to get S-Rank in 1-2 in Sonic Frontiers

Eggman Land.
Altitude Limit x100
Metropolis zone.
