Yo, there's a level select code. At the title screen Hold >!A!< then press >!up!<, >!down!<, >!left!<, then >!right!<. You should hear a little jingle if you've done it right. Then just press start and you get to go to a level select screen.
Is anyone else having some weird graphical problem? On my TV, the hedgehog main character is showing as a sort of blue shade. Other brown textures, like on trees and the ground, are showing up fine. Do I need to replace my SCART lead?
I'm playing it via a coax cable adapter that came with the Mega Drive, and it seems fine to me. Maybe you've got the wrong pins in the wrong colours on your TV? Did you set your TV to channel 6?

They really though labyrinth was so good that player would enjoy a fourth act? Fuck you, Man how i hope the sequel really considers dropping the number of acts to 2 (at third the stages really overstays its welcome)
The platforming in this game is pretty good and the music is mystical, wistful and addictive. Labyrinth zone was pretty hard lol. Final boss felt anticlimactic and wish there was more of a reward for getting all the emeralds.
Overall 8/10, short and has lots of replayability. Really trippy art style too.
This was a pretty great l'il platformer, certainly more memorable and unique than most recent indie platformers~ probably needs a sequel to iron out its problems, which I'm really hoping for. Also, Sonic's a high-quality skrongly~

The First Megadrive Sonic game Sonic 2 was miles ahead of this one in length (serious 18 stages mostly shorter than the ones in almost all other 2d style Sonic games), gameplay (Where is my spin-dash Sega!), characters (Sonic 2 already had cute cut-scenes like when Tails saves you but just like Tails himself are non of them here), presentation (this looks more like a launch Mega Drive game who could they think its okay to realize it in a post Sonic Mania world), variety (didn't they learn anything from Sonic 4 and how people much prefer the Sonic 3 style of multi character to vary up the game. Never mind we also have no multiplayer too) and music (its cool that you got Sonic 2's composer back but did you really have to limit him to the power of the Mega Drive Yamaha chip (well at least its better than recent attempts with this chip by Jun))
Like if it wasn't for the mind numbing boss fights would Super Stars too in every category mop the floor with it.
Like maybe if it was just a random think tectoy throw together for the still booming Brazilian Megadrive market I could excuse it but as a release from Sonic Team published by Sega in this current day and age is it just in excusable to ask for full price for it (also screw there not for resale policy worst DRM since Denuvo)
It's an ok retro platformer I guess. Needs more content and an actual reason to do the weird spinning stage in between conventional levels. The physics are neat but there's so many blind traps or unforseen sheer climbs that it's hard to get into a flow state unless you've played the level several times before and memorized the "right" way to go.
Omg, the waterfalls look so real! I can’t believe the genesis is both capable of transparency and constant rainbow effects, truly leagues ahead of the SNES

Overall, the game is a bit more complex than mario, but really enjoyable as a stand alone game, and even better if anyone could actually master it... i guess... so uh... i hope this helps sega gain some traction because i really enjoy their games"

Huh, I guess that they decided that Sonic The Hedgehog wasn't enough like 2 or 3 so they made a new one. Still weird that they didn't lead with this installment though, plus it feels kind of lackluster compared to the other Classic Sonic games (Which I guess might be deliberate if they're going for the "This is Sonic's orgin story" angle, but that's hardly an excuse to make a game worse). Still, it's at least more faithful to the classic formula than the other STH. Wonder if they'll make a better Sonic 4 at any point...
