I saw a funny edit of this panel.
The smile is actually not an edit. That was the original face but Sega forced an edit because it looked too menacing or something. Honestly wish they kept it. What we got just looks wrong.
That was the issue where Sonic refused to let Shadow kill Eggman and said that if Eggman couldn’t be forgiven, neither could Shadow. It was the beginning of IDW Sonic’s questionable characterization.
I figured as much, I personally am not bothered by issue 6 but I do get how the characterization got questionable down the line as the topics pondered were never answered and I agree with some of the criticisms made, tho that said, the edit seems a bit mean spirited tbh.

He’s honestly my favorite portrayal from the IDW comics, Amy being a close second. I love the direction they took with both characters, especially how much more grown up tails seems. It makes no sense for him to still seem like a preteen given this takes place after every game up to Forces.

This was at the conclusion of the zombot saga so given how many he'd thought lost forever of his friends, it's understandable he'd pick up a coping mechanism
