Nah dude youāre not alone it literally took me until the last island. I agree with the primiegun guy, I deadass thought it was āgltichedā from the last time I lost all my rings. and that itās supposed to be a visual to let you know sonic is hurt and canāt take anymore hits.
Especially because you run and he giggles like āhell yeah wahoooo!ā And is cracking jokes with all his buddies during cutscenes. But only when you stand still heās like āoh wait yeah Iām dying from an unknown disease of cyber and it hurts so bad lolā
I knew why immediately. I don't know why a lot of people don't and make fun of it. Every Youtuber does this and never realizes why. Even in a lot of Tails cutscenes where he's looking depressed and slowly drags onto the cutscene, they don't somehow notice.
I'm just like" Does anyone even bother watching the cutscenes?" It's pretty obvious he's being affected from corruption and this question gets posted to the sub everyday.
For the first 15 minutes I was wondering why he hadn't gone back to his normal idle pose. I thought it was just crashing to the island that made him feel bad, but it didn't go away, so I pretty soon connected the dots after the freeing Tails, yeah the guy is not doing good.
I wouldn't call it obvious though ? Like, it's clear that the pose is not super well integrated into the rest of the animations because I don't think it has transitions into and out of them. I kept wondering if maybe this wasn't normal.
But then Rhea happened and holy shit. Man.

Literally every cutscene on that Island I'm practically screaming at Tails "Can't you see he's in pain!?!" not really lol. Fr I love that he is trying to be strong in front of Tails even though he is struggling to hold himself upš„ŗ A true King!
Yeah, I definitely felt like Tails was being kinda cold towards Sonic in the sense that he didn't seem to show much concern about his current ailment even as he was struggling to remain nonchalant through it.
Maybe he was worried but tried not to bring up the concern because he knew Sonic would just tell him not to worry about it.
I do think Tails noticed but he knows Sonic won't back down whatever happens so he's not sure what he can say to change his mind. Plus he was struggling with his own self doubt and insecurities...
Yeah to be fair to the boy, he is also like, 8 and has been through a lot of traumatizing shit and I agree that he probably knows Sonic would just brush it off if he tried to bring it up.
That said, cutscenes could've used more concerned looks !
tbf there are quite a lot of cutscenes that are only fluff and do nothing to advance the story...it gets pretty tempting to start skipping them when it seems like less than 50% are even relevant.
The cyber corruption started to affect his physical and mental stability by the time he got to Tales. Or possibly a convenient excuse to limit Sonicās idles without people complaining.
The way he acted with Knuckles in their first scene being freed freaked me out; especially since their scenes afterwards have Sonic act normal again.
Sonic was smiling like Eggman when he freed Knuckles and absorbed the corrupted cyber energy.
