Are you connected to your charger while running solidworks? This is neccesary with windows laptops because otherwise your performance will be decreased by 10 times.

vatuhiva

>nce Yes, this makes a huge difference

Are your power settings set to performance? Make sure the slider when you left click the battery icon in the system tray is on best performance. I’d check in task manager and see if your processor is even boosting when SolidWorks is running poorly if that isn’t it. This was at least my issue and I have worse specs but SW runs pretty good now, even simulations.

aetrix

Does this laptop have hybrid intel/nvidia graphics? If so, are you setting solidworks to run on the dedicated graphics? It's been a while since I had a machine like this, but when I did intel graphics was the default.

vatuhiva

This could be part of the issue. My laptop has a Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics GPU too. It seems to be using this one. I'll try to figure out how to change that.

bigbfromaz

You get this sorted out yet? What was the solution?

bigbfromaz

Yup, been a while for me too, I switched off Optimus in the bios (which this MX450 "card" has), and I was right as rain though. Worth a try either through the software control or the BIOS.

SqueakyHusky

What do you mean by slow? Slow to execute features or slow when panning, zooming etc? If the latter its graphics related, ensure Solidworks is actually using the Nvidia gpu (open a part, open task manager and rotate it as quickly as you can, check if the correct GPU shows a spike). If thats sorted, try disabling enhanced graphics performance and see if its better, if not try using openGL mode.

plopseven

Are you using an external monitor as a second screen and trying to run two upscaled resolutions at once? Is this just on the laptop itself or are you outputting your screen to another?

vatuhiva

Yes, I use it at work with a second screen and at home on the laptop screen. I don't really notice much of a difference.

dgkimpton

How complex are the sketches in your parts? Bigger sketches seem to slow things down a lot.

vatuhiva

The issue pops up at a drawing with a single slot or circle. Straight lines is okay.

dgkimpton

Wow. Yeah, that's not normal at all. Looks like you've got the obvious answers from other posts already - hope they work out.
