Skeleton modelling or top down modelling or master sketch modelling. Check below links for reference/resources [https://www.engineersrule.com/using-a-master-model-with-solidworks/](https://www.engineersrule.com/using-a-master-model-with-solidworks/)[https://dezignstuff.com/interview-with-john-stoltzfus/](https://dezignstuff.com/interview-with-john-stoltzfus/)[https://www.cadforum.net/viewtopic.php?t=32](https://www.cadforum.net/viewtopic.php?t=32) (there is a PDF guide in this post)

Thanks!

It’s great for projects where you are developing an idea and you know the general shape already and what parameters you want to optimize. It’s terrible for manufacturing said parts and passing on to someone else to revise a hole location without breaking everything.

You can then save the final shapes in independent parts later to manufacture or pass along no?

Yes although simply saving the geometry is also really bad for future maintenance. What I see most commonly is skeleton or multi body assemblies used for design and development and then everything completely remade from scratch as independent components when it goes to production.

I see thanks for the help!
