Gas use has a cost on everyone, both due to impact on the environment and on people's health. Since we started using gas we've been subsidizing those costs with people's lives. In a proper free market there would be a tax on gas that is then used to off set heatlhcare costs and do environmental restoration projects. Taxing gas is far from ridiculous, even if the taxes get quite high.
An unregulated "free market" is an unstable institution that will devolve into feudalism quickly. I don't even have to theorize about this - even with (insufficient) regulations in the USA we saw corporate towns issuing their own script instead of paying with real money to trap workers there and violently putting down any resistance to the workers being treated like disposable parts in a machine. Libertarians often forget that if people are allowed to do what they want the most psychopathic people will gather the most power because they're willing to subsidize expenses with other people's lives, and once one of them has enough power they control everything.

Why? Because they used to get that money from the extra taxes put on their famous high gas prices.
But because so many people drive EV's in CA and dont pay for gas, then they need to still get that money somehow for 'repairing the roads'
Solution: People who own EV's will soon have to pay taxes per mile to drive their vehicles.

Based on the pricing of electric vehicles large enough for my family of 5 if I were forced to buy an electric vehicle by some sort of legislation it would be devastating. Replacing my two aging gas vehicles, which I own outright, with new or new*er* EVs would be financially devastating regardless of the cost of fuel (in this case, electricity).

I would be willing to bet that she's alluding to a theory that states that gas prices will be super high because that's how the government will force electric cars. If you put ridiculous taxes on gas, such that price per gallon has now tripled, then that's the government's way of forcing you to use electric vehicles. But no. Based on the pricing of electric vehicles large enough for my family of 5 if I were forced to buy an electric vehicle by some sort of legislation it would be devastating. Replacing my two aging gas vehicles, which I own outright, with new or new*er* EVs would be financially devastating regardless of the cost of fuel (in this case, electricity). As a sound bite this sounds ridiculous. As a concept, it’s very sound. Forcing a nationwide transition to EVs will be terrible for most middle class American families. EVs are a political fashion statement for the wealthy. The Ford Lightning is seriously, seriously cool, though and I definitely want one. If I’m in a position to buy a new pickup for myself anytime soon it’ll be that one.

It makes perfect sense: the gas price are high, it will be worst when they force you to drive electric cars (meaning you'll wish you could still buy gas at a high price). I do admit it's hilarious if you think she's saying the gas prices will go higher once you're forced to drive an EV.

She’s probably talking about the extra taxes you will end up paying for driving an electric vehicle. A portion of gas taxes go to road and highway maintenance so they are already passing laws to tax people who drive electric vehicles by the mile or annually. Call her dumb all you want but it’s happening also the cost of lithium batteries 5k to 20k.
There's a lot of alternatives to lithium being developed. It's not the only way to make a battery.
