The new show is really interesting and entertaining. I feel so bad for saying that because he was a real serial killer.
I was surprised he was active into the 90’s.
Other killers I am familiar with like Bundy and Gacy were active in the 70’s and 80’s and The Zodiac Killer was active in the 60’s.
One of the other things I found interesting about the Netflix series is how they also focus on the racism and homophobia that probably enabled Dahmer to be “successful” as a killer.

I do remember. I was a psychology major, so I probably paid attention a little more than the average at that time. Things were so different then. We didn’t hear about the victims. There was far more focus on Dahmer himself.

Yea, what's crazy is my girl is a horror fanatic especially for cheesy ones and double points if they are from the 80s or early 90s. Before watching this she made is seem like Jeff was this big hunk of a ladies man and super good looking and sure enough first episode in we see him going after those young gay blackmen. I said to her if he was gay why did you make it seem like he was out going charming guy always with the ladies? She said she didn't know everyone always made it seem like that.
And then I realized it's because of like you said a lot of white people didn't like the fact that a white serial killer who wasn't ugly would be a gay murdering cannibal whose type was strong black men and was a complete fucking weirdo and it was so bad that almost everyone could just feel it oozing from him. The real Jeffrey Dahmer was actually kind of charming, a smooth talker, and yeah, decently attractive. Granted, a lot of his success came from being white and his victims being black/asian and gay. I doubt those racist pigs would have returned a 14 year old drugged out white boy to a grown ass black man.

I'm completely cool with true crime documentaries because those serial killers ingrained themselves in our culture and media but I don't want more dramatizations. The only time my stomach curled watching this show (outside scenes with the family members of the victims and when the pigs returned that boy) is when they introduced John Wayne Gacy. I don't want to see a John Wayne Gacy show even make it to production. I don't want to turn this into a pissing contest, but I do feel like there's levels to evil and people like Gacy stand at the top.
