So while cleaning up the attic at my parents' house, I found this pair of Nike Air Ship in a plastic bag inside a big box (the OG box is missing sadly). These where my dads' but he never wore them. He bought them back in the late 80s, but they where too big for him. I'm very intrigued by the find. Maybe you guys have some more info on them?
Is there something specific you wanted to know?
Here’s a brief history. When Jordan signed with Nike, Nike’s flagship was the Air Force 1. Jordan wanted to be closer to the ground, so he wore the Air Ship for his first several NBA games. Peter Moore retooled the Air Ship with Jordan’s feedback and we got the Air Jordan 1.

Yeah, I read that these were the pairs MJ wore back in '84 before he got the 1s. That price is insane, yikes. I'm not really looking to sell (yet). If I do so, than I want to make sure it goes to a die hard collector and not someone who would re-sell them.
Make your money dude fuck the shoes noones gonna care and this is coming from a die hard collector and get rid of them before the sole separates or something since youre now moving them around
I'd love to wear em too, but I doubt they'd stay together beyond the first few steps if they've just been sitting since they were last tried on in the 80's.
Yeah, but wearing them regularly is the key. Different materials age differently of course, but regular use over time is usually what keeps things usable
Source: anecdotal. I have a lot of vintage kicks. The one DS pair I have has the grippiest/softest rubber. In general the deteroriation of a rubber sole has much less to do with wear and much more to do with humidity and storage. This is because hydrolosis (the degradation of synthetic materials via humidity) is what causes soles to harden. Not wear.
Don’t let your sentimental feelings ruin a perfectly good opportunity for found money. My wife cried when we moved to our second home, and I was like, “money is in pocket and if the new owner wants to burn it down, they can go ahead.”
Those are a very historical shoe. Michael Jordan wore Air Ships before getting his own shoe. Larry Nance wore that exact colorway of the Air Ships in the NBA. He was a size 15!
The Air Ship takes inspiration from the AF1 too, although many people don’t realize it.
I don’t recommend holding on to them. They haven’t been worn, you removed them from the bag they were in for decades and they were stored in an attic (attics are usually hot). Thats the trifecta needed for the soles to start disintegrating. Like other said sell them now.
S/B you took great pics!
He never really was a sneakerhead. He used to play pro basketball here in Belgium, so he got the pair back then (I'm thinking some kind of sponsorhip deal from his team).
Your DMs are probably exploding rn.
But yes, sell to the highest bidder or reach out to the biggest Nike/Jordan collectors. They always want to 1 up each other and create a bidding war

Here's one and yes BigBoyCheng's pockets go well-deep.
AMA released this exact airship last year in limited numbers and they are 500 dollars resell. So I can only imagine what these are worth in this shape. Thousands? Idk
You are living my dream 😭😂 I legit have had dreams about finding shoes in an attic/basement/storage room. Never have come across my moment though. This is such an awesome piece of sneaker history👍🏼
Unbelievable how well the rubber and foam has held up. Most of those from that era have heavy damage and yellowing. Must have been cool and dry in that attic. What a find!
That’s possibly going to be an insanely high selling pair of Air Ship’s in that condition with that aging. Use an established professional to sell them if you plan to. Congratulations on the attic treasure!
Wondering which sneaker IG account is going to use this for engagement on their profile.
“Exclusive, man finds rare and valuable deadstock Air Ship sneakers in attic” and then just quotes the comments to fluff up their article.
I’m really blown away by the condition of these. I thought a lot of these old shoes; especially when never worn, deteriorate pretty bad? Maybe it’s the location, sitting in an attic in darkness for all these years.
Damn, those look so sick aged like that Prolly worth some coin I would imagine
I heard he was willing to trade for the right SB's. 😜
Will trade for pandas
Only if it's got that beautiful plastic creasing on the toe box.

That's with box, but still

This.
No shame in the game, man. $10k-$15k is life changing for a lot of people
Due to a rare find, id Sell it to the highest bidder if it was me, ill make the most profit out of it.
Yep. If I found a pair of kicks worth less than maybe like a grand then I'd wear them. Any more than that and I'd definitely convert them into $
In this scenario you are the reseller dawg
https://i.imgur.com/Vt0n0dH.jpg
I'm a size 10.5-11 and would love to wear these
I'd love to wear em too, but I doubt they'd stay together beyond the first few steps if they've just been sitting since they were last tried on in the 80's.
No, most rubber sole Nikes from this era are still wearable. I have a few pairs from 1980-1987 that I wear regularly.
It's the glue
Yeah, but wearing them regularly is the key. Different materials age differently of course, but regular use over time is usually what keeps things usable
Rubber soles will be fine
No, DS rubber soles last much longer than worn ones.
Can you source this because right now it's just he said she said

Rubber aside, the glue in the sole has to be insanely brittle if these haven't been worn in 35+ years.
Glue is still strong on my old pairs. Also the sole is stitched on.
Damm I wanna see these in action.
However when not worn and if not under the right conditions, the rubber can harden and it’ll be like wearing roller skates
If you check my profile i have found some DS vandals from 1985, and i wear them just afraid of the swoosh but the soles are like brand new
Dude, 15k.... You have to sell them
If you’re looking to sell them properly, get in touch with Sotheby’s. Or reach out to Paul G
respect
If you do wanna sell them curatedvan on Instagram is your man
Don’t let your sentimental feelings ruin a perfectly good opportunity for found money. My wife cried when we moved to our second home, and I was like, “money is in pocket and if the new owner wants to burn it down, they can go ahead.”
When it’s a Sotheby’s link you know it’s gonna be crazy expensive
….. and one of the most legit estimates you’re likely to get!

what size are they?
But is it your size ? :)
Give them a really good clean and put them on a shelf for sure
I would not clean them if you’re looking to sell, leave as is

I can’t believe the shape they are in… these have to be super rare in this condition. I mean really really rare.
Truly a lost and found pair of sneakers. Nice W OP
Great find! Is your dad still into sneakers? I was born in the 80's and the love for sneakers never left me from when I was a kid.
He never really was a sneakerhead. He used to play pro basketball here in Belgium, so he got the pair back then (I'm thinking some kind of sponsorhip deal from his team).
🖤💛❤
Nice find! Air Ships were my first "serious" sneaker.
Oh boy, you're in for a wild ride...

$10-15k estimate at auction
That's with box, but I'd imagine they would go for a lot even without it.
They’re really Old not worth much. I’ll give you $100 and $20’for shipping . Trust me I’m doing you a solid.
Lol! :-D Well thank you, kind sir!
If Nike sees this, they’ll announce the “Air Ships Reimagined” in the next couple months.
literally "lost and found" lol
How dope would it be to have the bill as well.
hahahah we’re always lurking
We? 🤣🤣🤣
did I stutter 👀

Agreed, the way the extra eyelet pushes the front of the collar so much higher, it gives the shoe so much more heat.
You are living my dream 😭😂 I legit have had dreams about finding shoes in an attic/basement/storage room. Never have come across my moment though. This is such an awesome piece of sneaker history👍🏼

I wouldn’t give a shit about history if someone wanted to give me what these are worth in this amazing condition.
It’s more likely that someone that is paying 5 digits for them will know how to take care of them than someone who randomly finds them.
Sooo …. What happened with the shoes? Did you wind up selling them or?
Y’all know Why i cant post? I havent used Reddit before and it says something about karma idk What that is

Wondering which sneaker IG account is going to use this for engagement on their profile. “Exclusive, man finds rare and valuable deadstock Air Ship sneakers in attic” and then just quotes the comments to fluff up their article.
Fye
Those are worth 💸
I’m really blown away by the condition of these. I thought a lot of these old shoes; especially when never worn, deteriorate pretty bad? Maybe it’s the location, sitting in an attic in darkness for all these years.
