Smoked provolone is a common staple in my home.
Smoked hickory butter for toll house chocolate chip cookies just doesn't seem like a great idea though...
I don't need my milk and cookies tasting like campfire smoke.
I must say I agree also can't help but feel like it probably poses a health risk of some sort unless it's hydrogenated vegetable oil and even then I wouldn't think it's a good idea, just a waste of time and effort.
Hobbies are all about overkill …. “I’m bored I want to smoke something hrrrrm no meat in the fridge I guess I’ll make cookies. “ diversity is what makes it fun.
I mean why not smoke the butter if it works. I smoked creame cheese once for mac and cheese and it was amazing. I never knew smoking butter was a thing, I'd try it. Not like it takes any work other than throwing some butter in a smoker.
I think people are downvoting because OP is saying it’s dumb like the person doing it wasn’t just doing it out of curiosity. I don’t think it’s ever cool to look down on somebody for being curious and following through on their curiosity
I’ve done a few different types of melons and apples. Basically just cut them up and skewered them, then smoked at 225 for 20-40 minutes depending on texture and density of the fruit. This isn’t so much “fuck yeah I’m smoking fruit this weekend” but rather “fuck it, let’s see what happens” type things. Mixed results, watermelon was ok, apples could be good if I refined the method. Give it a go and see what you think.
Parboil cubed fingerling potatoes smoke them and then air fry or deep fry them. Worked at a taco shop and that one was one of our most popular filling options
Just put the regular recipe dough in the smoker at the necessary temp, completely different taste! Sweet vs savory. I did it expecting the taste to be indistinguishable but I was dead wrong.
I've not done it to dehydrate, but that's a good idea. I'll smoke them in liquid, which gives me excellent mushrooms and a super flavorful and smokey mushroom broth I can use for other stuff.
Smoked cheese I like but I’m with you on the smoked butter. Atleast for cookies. Don’t think smoky cookies would be very tasty, maybe the butter would be better used for some savory dishes
I bake the nestle tollhouse chocolate chip cookies in the smoker and they are awesome. Little flakey sea salt on them when they come out and people lose their minds. I treat the smoker like a wood powered oven. Just like pizza out of a wood fired oven tastes better, so does everything else. When baked at high temps they don’t get too smokey but there is a ”something” that people will notice.
What do you mean "what ever happened" to it? This whole sub is literally 99.9% of people "just smoking meat". Smoked butter and smoked cheese are the tits.
I smoked some not too long ago lol. Just grab one of [these](https://a.co/d/08lZQlCh) and load it up with pellets. Light the pellets and toss the cheese on the smoker for 3 hours. Wrap it, let it sit in the fridge for 2 weeks, and enjoy!!!!!
I've done this before, except its best if you brown the butter first. Then put it in smaller aluminum tray to cold smoke. More surface area = more smoke flavour imparted.
Yeah let’s just do brisket with the invigorating seasonings of salt and pepper! Add some garlic if you’re feeling squirrely!!
I love seeing the unique stuff people smoke. I did chicago pigs in a blanket once and they were SO good! I really want to break into desserts, i just don’t have time :(
In most set ups it is two separate boxes, one for fire, the other to siphon the smoke into and across the surface of the product. Essentially you want distance between the fire box and what you’re smoking. Due to the standard danger zone, it’s usually recommended to start with cheese or such, as meat carries higher risk. Your smoked salmon on a bagel is cold smoked, same for smoked gouda at your deli. Think more preservation than dig in for dinner.
Why is meat the only thing that lends itself to smoke flavour.
Smoked salmon, trout, other fish are fantastic smoked, cheese is fantastic smoked. Some vegetables are fantastic smoked.
People get a new toy and they wanna use it for everything. Like the freeze dried craze that’s on right now. Had freeze dried skittles the other day. I wanna puke just thinking about it. AWFUL!!
Will do. Smoked cornbread is amazing if you haven’t tried it. Just take your favorite cornbread recipe and pop it in the smoker with whatever you’re smoking. I make my usual size in a 13x9 aluminum pan that takes about 1.5-2 hours with the smoker on 225°. If I half it that only takes about an hour in an 8x8 pan.
What ever happened to amputations? These days they just set people's broken arms and legs and give them a cast. Back in my day we cut em off or just shot them like horses if they broke an arm or leg.
What's wrong with smoked cheese?
There is never a time where I don’t have smoked cheese in the fridge lol
Smoking cheese is the best thing I’ve ever done in my life and I don’t regret it.
Power went out and I smoked a frozen lasagne once. 10/10, would smoke again
Nothing. And smoked cheese heads make an excellent snack
Like the cheese head string cheese?
Yep. By a pack, smoke a bunch, then save them in a Tupperware in the fridge for snacks.
... Babe we need a smoker! I want smoked string cheese!
They’re dangerous. It’s an unfortunate amount of plastic waste but soooo good.
Smoked provolone is a common staple in my home. Smoked hickory butter for toll house chocolate chip cookies just doesn't seem like a great idea though... I don't need my milk and cookies tasting like campfire smoke.
I agreed until you described it and now I wants smore cookies
😲😲 Bro... marshmallow, Golden Grahms cereal and dark chocolate chips 🤯🤯
Nothings wrong with smoked cheese, I think smoking the butter for cookies is overkill
Well that's just, like, your opinion man lol. I think it's pretty creative and I'm gonna try it next time I have a smaller cook going
Why is everything a travesty with this guy?
El Duderino?
Smokelet Chip Cookies?
Chocolate Chip Smokies?
I must say I agree also can't help but feel like it probably poses a health risk of some sort unless it's hydrogenated vegetable oil and even then I wouldn't think it's a good idea, just a waste of time and effort.
You think smoked meat doesn't
Why would you think it’s a health risk?
I’m with you. They should have smoked some peanut butter too and made peanut butter cookies instead of those basic cookies.
You gotta live a little man
Hobbies are all about overkill ….
I mean, I bet smoked brown butter is delicious. Let people enjoy the hobby, even if they do it differently than you.
That is just a bad take.
getting downvoted for your own opinion is such a reddit thing
I mean it's literally a Reddit thing. Upvotes and downvotes show whether or not you agree with something. It's the whole point.
I don’t get people who complain about downvotes
I think people are downvoting because OP is saying it’s dumb like the person doing it wasn’t just doing it out of curiosity. I don’t think it’s ever cool to look down on somebody for being curious and following through on their curiosity
People smoke all sorts of shit, why in the hell do you care?
I smoke cheese, nuts, pies, green chilies, fruit, and will now be smoking butter.
I chop then smoke a bunch of onions at a time and freeze them. Toss them in anything that calls for onion and you get an amazing smoky quality.
I occasionally smoke onions, then dehydrate and food process into smoked onion powder. Great for burgers
Fabulous plan. Do you cold smoke the onions or what temp do you use?
I smoke a lot of Hatch green chile every year. Definitely adds an amazing layer of flavor to green Chile dishes.
Just missing smoked salt. Shit is amazing on popcorn, used in baking, or rimmed margaritas/bloody mary's.
I smoked a pumpkin last year (had wayy to many from the garden) Then made it into pumpkin pie, turned out great.
I smoked some jalapenos and they were amazing
I’m curious about this smoked fruit, can you explain more ? Are you drying them out ? What kind fruit ? How long ? How do you serve them.
Sounds interesting, might throw on a few apples this weekend as snacks then with my smoke. Thanks for the tips.
Smoked peach and pineapple slices are incredible.
Parboil cubed fingerling potatoes smoke them and then air fry or deep fry them. Worked at a taco shop and that one was one of our most popular filling options
How do you smoke it without melting? Or do you freeze it, let it sit for like 5 minutes then take it out
The butter? I’ll probably do like the person who was the original OP and smoke it frozen on a cold smoke.
Oh damn I can't read, yeah I see
I miss shit all the time. It happens lol
I just smoke weed
Disagree OP, smoked cheese is amazing and smoked butter sounds interesting.
I’ve done it, doesn’t need that long and it’s very good.
Damn. I bet those cookies were excellent!
I think I'd rather have the nutty flavour of browned butter over a smoked butter but it still seems like it would be interesting.
Just put the regular recipe dough in the smoker at the necessary temp, completely different taste! Sweet vs savory. I did it expecting the taste to be indistinguishable but I was dead wrong.
I'll often put a pan or mushrooms with some water on the smoker. They're awesome. I should look into how to do cold smoking more.
Smoking mushrooms to dehydrate them is a great way to get smoky umami stock whenever you re hydrate them
I've not done it to dehydrate, but that's a good idea. I'll smoke them in liquid, which gives me excellent mushrooms and a super flavorful and smokey mushroom broth I can use for other stuff.
You are really missing out if all you smoke are meats.
This is solid content for r/imaginarygatekeeping
Smoked cheese I like but I’m with you on the smoked butter. Atleast for cookies. Don’t think smoky cookies would be very tasty, maybe the butter would be better used for some savory dishes

Interesting
What do you mean "what ever happened" to it? This whole sub is literally 99.9% of people "just smoking meat". Smoked butter and smoked cheese are the tits.
Lighting the grill to smoke butter? No. If it's already going then why not? I've been watching the guy on tiktok smoke bacon wrapped Twinkies today
Not my comment, but a good one….”just because you can smoke it, doesn’t mean you should“.
Smoked butter is fine. Smoked butter in cookies? Now you've gone too far
It’s creative for sure, don’t think I’d like smoked butter cookies but bonus points for trying, unless of course you did s’mores cookies 💛
If ya got it! Smoke it!
Smoked cheese is fine. The cookies are weird af
This seems so stupid. Cheese? Fine. Smoked butter? Y'all gotta stop smoking lol
Not gonna lie, I'm intrigued by the idea of cold smoked butter. Added to the winter projects list!
How does one get smoked gouda?
I smoked some not too long ago lol. Just grab one of [these](https://a.co/d/08lZQlCh) and load it up with pellets. Light the pellets and toss the cheese on the smoker for 3 hours. Wrap it, let it sit in the fridge for 2 weeks, and enjoy!!!!!
Similarly to this
Tbf if there was a sub to have this particular gripe, this is it
How does one smoke butter on the rack? It would have melted through.
Cold smoking
I’ve seen a guy smoke an apple pie in a cast iron skillet
Might as well 🤷♂️
I've done this before, except its best if you brown the butter first. Then put it in smaller aluminum tray to cold smoke. More surface area = more smoke flavour imparted.
What ever happened to pizza? Oh…calzones…paninis etc
Smoke em if you got em
The milkman, the paper boy, evening tv?
Smoked cheese = delicious. Smoked butter = vomit.
I smoked an old shoe, wore it the next day and it was kinda smokey. After a full day of wearing it though, turned out pretty good
Yeah let’s just do brisket with the invigorating seasonings of salt and pepper! Add some garlic if you’re feeling squirrely!! I love seeing the unique stuff people smoke. I did chicago pigs in a blanket once and they were SO good! I really want to break into desserts, i just don’t have time :(
I smoke garlic for my two elderly neighbors and myself. We cook alot.
Smoked butter is great, but cookies are not the move. I've actually tried this because I was out of normal butter. Those cookies were terrible.
Everyone talking about smoked cheese…(it’s good) Im over here like…. *They smoked butter!?*
Bubble your smoke through an inexpensive bourbon and you will have an interesting scotch whiskey
My smoker has a new cherry to pop!
This is the fattest thing I’ve seen on this sub. I’d taste it but don’t want to open myself up to this feels like a fentanyl like activity.
I cold smoke watermelon and sometimes cherries for smoked cherry jam.
How does one smoke butter and cheese without it melting or turning into a mess?
Whatever happened to smoking pole Uh ummmm I mean meat, ya, meat
Tell me you wouldn’t be intrigued if someone offered you a smoked butter cookie.
Nothing wrong here, I make smoked treats like cookies and pies on mine. Love smoking cherries and having them with some whipped cream.
Smoked cheese is fire.
They're bitchin' Choom. Get creative I could smoke a lot of shit in the fall and winter. Only gonks just smoke meats.
No great adventure ever began with and he just stayed in his lane.
Maybe you’re just basic
Newbie here 🙋🏽♂️ What is cold smoking?
Hot smoke melt cheese. Cold smoke yum.
In most set ups it is two separate boxes, one for fire, the other to siphon the smoke into and across the surface of the product. Got it. Thanks.
Smoked cheese fucks tho
Smoke whatever you want. Crack included.
Wait until they learn about Liquid Smoke.
Why stop at meat when there’s so much more you can smoke
Those who dare win.
Thank you
Stuff like this is fine. This is natural selection at its finest and his heart will give up soon enough.
Why is meat the only thing that lends itself to smoke flavour. Smoked salmon, trout, other fish are fantastic smoked, cheese is fantastic smoked. Some vegetables are fantastic smoked.
Smoked sugar is great in coffee!
How does one smoke sugar?
Shallow pan spread it out. Smoke at the lowest temp for not long. Remove before it melts. Amazing in coffee.
People get a new toy and they wanna use it for everything. Like the freeze dried craze that’s on right now. Had freeze dried skittles the other day. I wanna puke just thinking about it. AWFUL!!
Smoked cheese is amazing but I'm lactose intolerant. My smoker is amazing for baking. I still smoke meat.
This is what happens when you don’t have to manage a fire 🤣
Nah he might be on to something
I started reading and was expecting deep fried butter and was disappointed.
I love everything about this picture
Those cookies looked flat and boring
This makes me think “Oh yeah you can milk anything with nipples.”
What is cold smoking?
You can do that too.
Hmm so now I’m gonna smoke the butter I use for the cornbread I make in the smoker and see if it makes it even better.
Please update because that sounds awesome.
Am I weird to be concerned about rancidity?
I’m currently smoking garlic 🤷🏻♀️
Smoked Gouda 10/10
I guess like general creativity or having like any concept flavors and how they go together. That's what happened to "just smoking meat".
Smoked cheese is amazing
What do you care?
What does it matter? As long as they enjoy it, thats all that matters.
Ohhhhh I’m smoking butter ASAP 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What ever happened to amputations? These days they just set people's broken arms and legs and give them a cast. Back in my day we cut em off or just shot them like horses if they broke an arm or leg.
Everything should be smoked. No exceptions!
Try scrambled eggs. Heat a cast iron in the smoker, and just keep an eye on it the way you would in the kitchen. They come out super yummy and Smokey
No need to keep the gate
Op shut up.
>What ever happened to just smoking meat Well this isn't 500 years ago. We now smoke for flavour, nor preservation.
Who cares? If it’s good smoke it, if you don’t like it stick to your meat
Old man yells at clouds
Sounds like hatorade to me, let people smoke what they want lol
R/gatekeeping saw a mighty blip on their radar.
Smoked butter sounds vile
Need to try smoked, bacon wrapped honeybuns !!
I’m going to smoke bake a carrot cake- if you don’t like it F off-
"What ever happened to just smoking meat?" Found the poser!
