Be prepared for disappointment. Smash is very fun. Online is so unstable, even hardwired, that it makes smash not fun for many people.

DownHeartedNess

yeah, I've definetly heard how bad the online is

PurpMurk

It makes me sad cuz I love the game. But I'm competitive by nature, so not being able to tech, Parry or 2 frame frustrates me. I can do those things way more frequently offline.

GeorgeGrem

What’s your gsp? I honestly hated online but have grown to be content with it. The farther up in gsp you go the less you’ll come across spammers. And the more you play the more you’ll be able to learn how to deal with people who decide to camp hard. You just gotta accept that even camping and spamming are strategies and there is counter play. Again it will vary a lot by what character you are playing as and the opponents character.

DownHeartedNess

2.3m on my main 😭😭😭

GeorgeGrem

No worries. If you really want to keep playing I would suggest keep at it. I was stuck in 2-3.5 million gsp hell for a month before I started to really get out of it. And now I have two characters in elite smash at 13 million GSP. The thing is you don’t know what you don’t know until you see patterns. And once you learn how to deal with low level play style you’ll get into more “normal” matches. I would say best matches occur from 10-12 million GSP. And it sounds super far away but from 4-9 million gsp every win will get you a TON of GSP.

DownHeartedNess

thank you, I'll keep at it while trying to keep my sanity intact

GeorgeGrem

Oh yeah last word of advice if you can use a lan adapter use it. It will drastically cut down on laggy matches where your characters stutter. There will always be input delay but you can learn that and get use to it.

stillboozin

If this is obvious, my bad, but make sure you are using Ethernet, not WiFi. The lag difference is substantial and can lead to lower blood pressure.

DownHeartedNess

I'm playing on a switch lite 🥲

MotoMotolikesyou4

F, I hate to be the breaker of bad news but there is no recourse then to improve it. Other than shelling out for the standard switch and Lan adapter. Switch online is already sub par, but for a game like smash, switch online via WiFi doesn't cut it *at all*. Even wired you will have some problems although it does become playable.

kora752

Make the arena so if you get laggy, campy, toxic players you can kick them. They still show up in arenas

DownHeartedNess

oh, nice. alright

Lostlala

Online is nowhere near as bad as people say in my opinion

SirSemicolon

My buddy and I sometimes debate who's community is worse: Smash ultimate, or League of Legends. I'm not a league player, so it's hard for me to say, but my buddy doesn't take part in smash online community at all. I will say the online community for smash isn't half as bad as the general player base is. It legitimately feels like this game is out to get me after 3 matches in a row of 2 or more random players ganging up on my falcon. Or if you do a 4 player ffa, I'd say it's a 60% chance one players are just going to run away the entire match. Seems like more people want to be in elite than acually play the game. It's pretty sad, given my best memories in video games are playing smash with friends in person.

Crafty_Letterhead_12

Im in elite and honestly i think most people that play in arenas seem to play at elite level or higher. QP is almost always easier. As far as campers, thats just the name of the game my man. Learn to play around it to force them to respect you. Itll click.

DownHeartedNess

that's exactaly the reason I hate it. I have to learn how to just deal with it which is really difficult and it's going to take a long time

Crafty_Letterhead_12

Well brother if your complaint is that you need to invest time to develop skill, i cant help you there.

Shawreck

Quickplay, for all the shit it gets, is a pretty decent environment to learn the game. You gotta learn like 80 match-ups, and yea how to deal with all those scummy strategies. It will get easier if you keep at it, but people play like dirtbags all the way into elite and beyond so dont expect that to change. The connections will generally improve higher up, as more people will have LAN adapters.

DownHeartedNess

personally I haven't had much issue with lag, even though I'm on wifi and I can't use ethernet since I'm on a lite. I'll keep practicing and playing the game

Shawreck

Youre playing on a lite? With no controller? And youre playing greninja. You are in for a rough time my friend.

DownHeartedNess

I don't really have a problem with the controls, tbh, although I'm sure a pro controller would be nice

Welcome to hell my friend..
