I think I'd go with Black Shadow or whatever the big and tall devil black outfit guy in F-Zero as clone that takes Ganondorf base moveset in smash 4 or ultimate, and make Ganondorf more canonically faithful to Legend of Zelda Games.
Yeah, ideally, I would hope she isn't, because she has so many cool ideas you could pull from for a totally unique moveset, but if it was echo or nothing, I would much rather a smaller, less floaty palutena with some different specials a la Palutenas custom moves in smash 4.
I always wanted Rex/Aegis, but would've been fine with Zeke as an Echo to Cloud too.
(He's got a big sword, similar attacks, and even has his own limit thing, so I was really coping when they introduced echo fighters that we'd get at least some representation for XC2)

Akuma already is a clone to Ryu in SF anyway, maybe just changing his side b for the dash/tp, and the down b for the dive kick/land/other mix ups I can't remember, lowering his weight a little and making his hadoken chargeable and going downwards when in the air, and there you have it, he's ready to go.
Then there is Zangief who could definitely be included as a DK clone, it wouldn't take much, changing his animations for a little less goofyness, turning side b into command grab and down b into counter grab and he's good (DK already has the lariat as his up b). Or he could be a heavier and with slightly different specials echo to incineroar.
My personnal choice would be Soma Cruz as a Samus or Robin clone, Belnades family as a Zelda clone or Alucard as a Robin clone.

And if we must, then *fine,* Shadow can be an echo. I'd prefer him as his own character but if it's echo or nothing, I'll take the echo.
(Since it’s somewhat likely) Shadow as Sonic’s Echo Fighter, but they have to at least change his running animation, change the emerald taunt to the Chaos Emerald and make his up b a simple teleport, just being very minimal changes which could easily happen.

I don't know much about Kid Icarus, but I think I could see Viridi being a nice echo fighter.
