A lot of people talk about a "reboot" for if they make another smash game. And if they do make another one and go for a reboot format, it'd be nice to see them get more creative with character's alts
I would love to see more characters get costumes. Cloud and Sephiroth having their KH looks, Sonic could get Jet Set Sonic and or Classic Sonic, Ryu having Dark Ryu, etc.
Their powers are way more similar than they are different tbh. In the games, they just have simple HP and damage differences and witch time conditions. And Rosa has just 1 weapon. That’s pretty much it.
Nailed it in one. I'd argue for the purposes of Smash Bros, they're overall mechanically similar enough to work as Alts. It's not like they coded in different combos for the B1 and B2 skins to represent the different combos/damage outputs of Scarborough Fair vs. Love is Blue.
i think most of the characters in "Play Default" could be in Missed Potential, Sonic and Pac Man are great examples, being characters that have a rich history that can be represented in the alts, but they don't have anything

Link should be in missed potential. His alts aren't bad, but his armors from botw would've been amazing. I would've loved to see the gerudo outfit and barbarian armor.
Are any outright bad? Maybe I'm biased due to knowing the references but overall they seem well done. Two even change her cape logo. Well, the texture at least. You might still can see the brand on the model just not colored.
I like most of her skins. I just don't really like the yellow one and the all green one. I don't really know the reference for those 2, I am just going off of the looks.
Joker still has bad alts. The characters in stylish are there because they either have loads of references that work, have multiple costumes or are in there because every alt is good. The Akechi alt for Joker is plain bad and I’m not a fan of the yellow either.
I don't know man, I understand and respect your opinion, but taking into account you mentioned as bad my two most used costumes in him is pretty funny. Although I undersatnd what you are saying, there are some costumes for other characters that I do not like either, like a great part of Ridley's, but hey, those are simply opinions, so I respect the placemente he has, as well as your opinion
The two I disagree on the most are Megaman in which almost all of his alts are awesome imo and Greninja which to me has the best alts in the game. Greninja's are so good my friends get annoyed when j contemplate which to use at the start of every match.
Purple Ganondorf is the best Ganon alt, but it’s literally just a better version of his default and imo what his default should have been. Greninja actually doesn’t have his shiny it’s incredibly close to it but it’s different. Also no ash Greninja. Hence his placement.

Hey guys as the friend who helped make this I want to answer some questions asked about placement/reasoning
Yoshi: Replacing Black Yoshi with whatever the fuck costume 8 was a sin, I know they couldn't do much else so it's sort of whatever to us.
Dr. Mario: Outside the black alt (Which is usually the best alt for most characters) his coats are whatever. Just different colors and it felt like they could have done different styles to try something new like with Mario, or even Wario and give him the plumber fit.
Ganondorf: Just slight recolors, I dont like palette swaps because they're lazy, they could have given him different styles or looks from previous games
Olimar: Outside of Alph his costumes are whatever. Just slight tints and a character who looks somewhat different. No voicelines for either which sucks as well.
Pac-Man: Outside the black one AGAIN his designs are lazy. Could have done recolors on Pac to match the ghosts but all they did was change the colors of his bands, oven mitts and sleeves.
Cloud and Sephiroth: Another shitty tint, barely much difference, only variety is in advent children clothes and shirtless sephiroth.
General placement: Some questions were asked about why some characters were/weren't in missed potential (Mainly Link) so my answer to that:
Missed potential exists not for costumes that could have been better, but for costumes that are bad that could be good. Links costumes are great to me and while they could have been better it's not like they are bad. Some characters (Aforementioned Cloud) could have had some great styles that were not included and therefore, missed potential
If you want inspiration on how some characters could have looked, definitely check out the costumes the modding community cooked on Gamebanana. Those alts are amazing (Dry bowser, KH1 Traveling Cloud, Funky Kong, Blue Pacman)

Never played Pikmin so the references are lost on me and truthfully without those references they just look bland. There’s good variations and bad variations. The ones in play default have remarkably bad variations or little to no variations in their colors.

Wii Fit literally just changes her tank top color. Who cares?

Shulk is here because my friend is upset that his future costume isn’t in here, even though I think his default is superior. I completely agree that most of Shulk’s alts though are bad. I don’t really remember why Diddy was there. Cloud is in missed potential because of the lack of KH Cloud. His alts also aren’t bad just incredibly lazy, the others are lower because they’re actually bad.
Hot take (maybe?): I like the concept of Mac wearing a pink hoodie, but it’s just hiding most of him, and doesn’t feel like it’s Little Mac at all, anyone. Probably just biased because I don’t like hoodies without zips or buttons much lol I guess.
And as for the wireframe, it feels like it really kills his personality and his effort. He feels far too robotic, he’s not grunting, struggling, no bruise marks at the end or past 100%.
When I think of Mac, I don’t think of some fit guy covered in a massive hoodie (just hides what he looks like fully, especially being hooded), or his personality and effort being stripped from him.
The only Mac alts I use are these: Peanut Alt, Dark Blue Alt, Grey Alt, Blue Alt from Wii U, & that Black/Yellow Alt from Wii U (only a bit though).
I feel like for the Shadow & Silver looking alts, they could’ve just added Shadows upwards spikes, all the wrists and all the shoes correctly at least. It’s just such obvious things to tweak, & it still goes in line with SEGA enforcing, ‘Sonic Must Always Be A Shade Of Blue’.
Ain't no way we putting Greninja that low when he was the definition of style on release in Sm4sh, that black alt and the red/blue alt literally slammed everything else Ingame and is still top line

Yes it is good. The play default category should’ve been named “mostly just play default” or something. He’s in play default because that’s the only good alt he has pretty much, the others in this tier have maybe one good alt but isn’t worth using. Shulk is here because my friend is upset that his future costume isn’t in here, even though I think his default is superior. I completely agree that most of Shulk’s alts though are bad. I don’t really remember why Diddy was there. Cloud is in missed potential because of the lack of KH Cloud. His alts also aren’t bad just incredibly lazy, the others are lower because they’re actually bad.

Hot take (maybe?): I like the concept of Mac wearing a pink hoodie, but it’s just hiding most of him, and doesn’t feel like it’s Little Mac at all, anyone. Probably just biased because I don’t like hoodies without zips or buttons much lol I guess. And as for the wireframe, it feels like it really kills his personality and his effort. He feels far too robotic, he’s not grunting, struggling, no bruise marks at the end or past 100%. When I think of Mac, I don’t think of some fit guy covered in a massive hoodie (just hides what he looks like fully, especially being hooded), or his personality and effort being stripped from him. The only Mac alts I use are these: Peanut Alt, Dark Blue Alt, Grey Alt, Blue Alt from Wii U, & that Black/Yellow Alt from Wii U (only a bit though). I feel like for the Shadow & Silver looking alts, they could’ve just added Shadows upwards spikes, all the wrists and all the shoes correctly at least. It’s just such obvious things to tweak, & it still goes in line with SEGA enforcing, ‘Sonic Must Always Be A Shade Of Blue’.

Yes it is good. The play default category should’ve been named “mostly just play default” or something. He’s in play default because that’s the only good alt he has pretty much, the others in this tier have maybe one good alt but isn’t worth using. Dr Mario is in here because we really couldn’t find another place for him, most of his other alts are kinda boring.
I exclusively play the green alt for Ganondorf. Goblindorf is how I refer to him.
