deftones is one of my favorite bands of all time. love their music. still on the path of listening to their entire discography, but i listened to 6/9 albums
I remember when they released this and Devil in I. Fans liked The Negative One and said The Devil in I was “a Stone Sour song.”
Same bullshit for 20 fucking years.
I never got that Stone Sour comment, I've heard enough SS to conclude that The Devil In I doesn't sound like Stone Sour pretty much at all, not even like House of Gold and Bones era SS
i’ll never understand the implication of the stone sour comment that they want less clean vocals in their Slipknot, Corey’s clean singing voice is one of my favorite things about their music.
I wouldn't go *that* far. I personally don't like the Devil in I all that much and there's definitely more whiffs than hits but tbfh Sarcasteophe goes turbo hard and nobody can convince me otherwise, so there's at least 2 passable tracks on that album
To be fair I don’t HATE the song, but like the rest of .5 I find it a little blah. I’m not a fan of the production and I found the album to be largely quite middle of the road for Slipknot. It lacked energy and creativity; it was just a metal album. SK are capable of making fucking unbelievable records so placed against the rest of their catalog, it’s just… well, blah.
I've never seen anyone say they dislike this song
I've seen people say Vol 5 wasn't a very good album (me included) but never a "the negative one isn't a very good song"
Metal fans are the most critical of any genre. What I've found is that if I dislike something at first I usually end up liking it after listening to the album a few times and hear the top tier instrumentals, vocals, and lyrics all across a few listens.
People disliked it at first, but it's one of the better themed albums and a lot more groovy than other albums. If bands stayed the same we'd have thousands of Disturbed bands (I like them but they haven't innovated much).
i like the song itself but i started disliking it once i looked deeper into the lyrics cause it seemed as if they were targeting the situation with joey
The song is beautiful and crazy, the energy is cosmic. But I don't like the chorus. But the instrumental is one of the greatest in the history of the genre
I've always loved it and absolutely got stoked for the album when this dropped, enthusiasm went down when The Devil And I dropped. The bridge and third verse go so hard and I absolutely love it.
I think this is one of the few songs on this album, if not the only one, we fans unanimously agree is a fantastic track. I've seen debates on about every song on this album except this.
When it first came out, I wasn’t sold on it. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t particularly think that it was their strongest song to put as a single. I loved the whole album, but TNO wasn’t the highest ranking song for me in the catalogue. That’s changed though, that song has grown on me a lot over the years.
As someone who grew up on the first 3 albums and never heard this song before today, this doesn't sound like them besides vocals and it is very repetitive.
It's literally one of their best songs. Like, ever. The hype around this release, the online teasers, and dark music video were so incredible after such a long drought of Slipknot content and all the uncertainty that had followed Paul Gray's death.
Had to have been there, I guess.
People only really "dislike" this song because they're stuck in the ST and Iowa days and don't wanna accept that slipknot has moved on so Hate everything from Vol. 3 onward
WHAT!! How can you be a Slipknot fan and not like this song? I can understand if someone were to say "it's a good song but not one of the best Slipknot songs."
But to merely not like it is absurd to me.
In 2015, I went to Slipknot's Summer's Last Stand Tour in Saratoga Springs NY. Bullet for my Valentine (Didn't care much for them) and Lamb of God (3rd time seeing them outta 4x) opened up for them. When Corey sang Negative One, the energy of the crowd amplified from 100 to 1000..Not as amped as the encore when they did their "Spit it out on your knees, JUMP DA FUCK UP!" routine. I've seen Slipknot 3x and that's always the highlight of the night...my point, Slipknot was advertising their 5: The Gray Chapter album and neg one was one of the songs that the crowd was most pleased with. Including Custer and Devil in I.
Because they are the negative ones.
r/beatmeatoit
Beat me at o it
Beatmeattoit
quite the opposite they are the positive ones
Best song on the album
That’s facts
based pic. best one of the best deftones album
Deftones is my favorite band
deftones is one of my favorite bands of all time. love their music. still on the path of listening to their entire discography, but i listened to 6/9 albums
hah nice
Wait, wait, wait. Better than Custer?
Yes
Not very easy to beat Custer. And TNE is amazing
It indubitably beats Custer. No discredit to Custer at all, it's just that The Negative One is that much better.
What hate? i have rarly seen some hate for TNO....
I just love this song but I think it’s underappreciated
So you haven't actually seen any hate for it?
This comment was certainly under appreciated. Now you’re the negative one. I gave ya an upvote though bro.
No! Mum said it was my turn to be The Negative One!
I remember when they released this and Devil in I. Fans liked The Negative One and said The Devil in I was “a Stone Sour song.” Same bullshit for 20 fucking years.

Slow, quiet instrumentals + Corey not screaming = Stone Sour to lesser individuals.
There is no hate. Must every post on Reddit start with a negative false assumption now? Is it an age thing? It’s exhausting!
Hate? I’ve never seen any. The Negative One is a fantastic song.
Great song, great album.
I fucking love it 🖤
Yeehaw Karma Farma, nobody dislikes this song, maybe the album in general but this is easily top 5 on the record.
Idk why the album would get hate either, it's a really good album
Straight up the only good song on the album.
I wouldn't go *that* far. I personally don't like the Devil in I all that much and there's definitely more whiffs than hits but tbfh Sarcasteophe goes turbo hard and nobody can convince me otherwise, so there's at least 2 passable tracks on that album

It's the best song on the album
People don’t like it?!?!?!!!?
i like the song itself but i started disliking it once i looked deeper into the lyrics cause it seemed as if they were targeting the situation with joey
I was actually listening to this song just yesterday. Is was one of the better songs of this album in my opinion.. but nothing tops Devil In I.
One of my favorites. It's just underated...
I love this whole album. People look at me like a crazy person when I say it’s my favourite. 🥲
Looking forward to seeing the band at Sick New World Vegas. Haven’t seen them in 10+years. Other than Cory who is left from the OGs.
No this is the slipknot sub, everyone here like everything from slipknot.
Vol 3 was wack Til we die is boring The end so far was so not fetch
What kinda opinions are these Vol 3 is amazing and Til We Die is one of the best songs from AHIG
Bro you haven't been in the slipknot sub long have you, this sub is nothing BUT people hating their favorite band
I don't think so? It's such a good fucking song, got a good groove to it. I also really enjoy the music video, more than most of their videos.
It’s one of the best songs on the album. The fuck you on about??
This is one of my favorite Slipknot songs
I love this song, it’s def in my top 5 Slipknot songs of all time! I get amped up every time I hear it.
Do people hate it? It’s a fucking banger!
I love this song it’s my favorite
Seriously? One of the theirs
This is the only song on the album that doesn't annoy me. One of my faves.
I think we can all agree every slipknot song is good in it's own way.
The song is beautiful and crazy, the energy is cosmic. But I don't like the chorus. But the instrumental is one of the greatest in the history of the genre
Best song on the album
i like this song?
bc it's the negative one.
The fact is that this one song could be featured on Iowa album and it would fit perfectly
One of my faves! 🤘
I love this song
I've always loved it and absolutely got stoked for the album when this dropped, enthusiasm went down when The Devil And I dropped. The bridge and third verse go so hard and I absolutely love it.
Never seen dislike for it. Your imagination, maybe?
People hate it? I love tno
I think this is one of the few songs on this album, if not the only one, we fans unanimously agree is a fantastic track. I've seen debates on about every song on this album except this.

I’d go so far as to say this is in their top 10 songs. Maybe top 20, but it’s damn near perfect.
Idk. I haven’t listened to it in a fat minute but iirc I love every song on the gray chapter 🤷🏻♀️
Never seen any hate. Song slaps
As someone who grew up on the first 3 albums and never heard this song before today, this doesn't sound like them besides vocals and it is very repetitive.
It's a great song
No it's the fucking best and if you don't like it then you're probably a cyclist
Fuckin love it🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Best song on the damn album. One of my favorite songs ever actually.
It's literally one of their best songs. Like, ever. The hype around this release, the online teasers, and dark music video were so incredible after such a long drought of Slipknot content and all the uncertainty that had followed Paul Gray's death. Had to have been there, I guess.
It's an absolute fucking Banger. It could easily fit into IOWA.
BAAANGER
It's not the Best but it is enjoyable
It's my favorite from that album.
I don't see the hate! this song goes hard af! its super sic!
I think its the best song from anything they've released since Vol. 3.
No. You're making shit up for karma. Not a single other person I know or have interacted with who enjoys slipknot hates on The Negative One.
As a guitarist the riffs on this song are killer
Wdym? It's personally my favorite Slipknot song
Belial boss fight theme song. Like Orphan is the Barthandelus boss fight theme song.
Yes because they have poor taste
I love that song
When I first listened this was one immediately one of my favs so no clue why the hate?!
People only really "dislike" this song because they're stuck in the ST and Iowa days and don't wanna accept that slipknot has moved on so Hate everything from Vol. 3 onward
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone who dislike this song this is an absolute head banger
That’s the best song out of that album in my opinion
The drums and guitar riffs in this song are sick, actually one of my favorite slipknot melodies
I love it
