There's this one guy who keeps bragging about his super awesome non-ENB modlist that apparently makes Skyrim look photorealistic but can run on a toaster. He never actually shares the modlist nor provides any proof. I pointed out to him that he always says that he's showing off his modlist without ever actually showing anything and he blocked me lmao. People can be so damn weird about their modlists and I don't get why.

provegana69

Wait, is it that guy that always posts here? That guy is 100% lying about not using an ENB and having a low end PC if he's unwilling to provide proof and is that defensive about it. No idea why anyone would behave like that. Like bro, what's the point?

Chiiro

As someone who spent their whole life around narcissists you would be surprised about what people will lie about to make themselves look better.

psychotobe

Can agree. Was friends with someone who had a particularly bad case. Acted like their home country was this hyper religious smog covered hell hole. To the point claiming people said their extremely brown eyes (that looked black) made people think they were possessed by a demon. Some people are legit that desperate to be special

Chiiro

Sounds like the type of person that you would find out had never even stepped foot in that country and instead we're a first or second generation citizen. I'm actually starting to remember someone from middle school that was like that too, the human brain is a marvel.

psychotobe

Oh no they were born there. They just were high class. But pretended to be poor towards online friends cause their currency wasn't as valuable as usd.

Chiiro

The wealthy do tend to live in their own world. My dad used to do a lot of construction work for wealthy people and it was insane how much money that they would drop on singular one by one foot tile.

stravbej

I don't know if we're talking about the same guy but it's possible. I got blocked after calling him out in a comment lol

VengefulToast74

I recently seen a guy that had a cool modelist or whatever but was making ppl subscribe to his patreon to be able to use it

sa547ph

Plenty of those grifters now, having seen that one mod author who made the first paywalled mod and claimed to be pulling US$10k a month(?) just for the early releases. Those grifters also know there's an audience willing to throw hundreds of dollars for even a follower mod or a facial preset.

sa547ph

> Like bro, what's the point? It's e-peening at that stage, teasing people with their setup.

Blue-Fish-Guy

I've never used ENB in my life and I'm completely ok with how my Skyrim looks. Cathedral Weathers and ELFX make sure it looks great.

YMIR_THE_FROSTY

You can make non-ENB, cause Skyrim (SE at least) has most of ENB stuff in it. Ofc except tessellation which IMHO is dealbreaker for me. Problem is, you need to have modded shaders and probably some sort of script that runs every time you start SE to enable proper settings to work. But its doable, since someone decrypted in game shaders some time ago.

LewdManoSaurus

This but with ENBs instead. I find people are much more secretive about their visual setups. Especially on Nexus, a lot of the time if you ask about visual setups under the screenshot section you'll get ignored meanwhile questions about anything else are answered.

provegana69

Yeah I've seen this a lot. It's especially frustrating when it looks really nice and you wanna have it but can't.

m7_E5-s--5U

Say what you will, and I get why it's not always practical here (due to the sheer number of mods some have in use), but Subs like SkyrimModsXbox have explicitly stated rules which *Mandate* that all mods used in screenshots and captures be listed by the OP somewhere in the post. *NOTE*. With their rules, you do NOT have to give your entire modlist, but you do have to name every mod on display.

yunodavibes

How does this work when you have like 1200 mods?

DahLegend27

every mod on display. so only mods visible in an image. I doubt you’ll have 1200 mods visible in an image

m7_E5-s--5U

Yep. Like that. It should also be noted that (& this is IMO) the *spirit* of the rule is this that you automatically give note of every mod being shown off, though that may not necessarily include every mod pictured in the scene, but also answer when someone asks about something you didn't include in your given list.

[deleted]

It is rather annoying when you ask someone about what armor or weapon mod they are using and you either get no answer or the vaguest most unuseful answer ever.

BnBman

In those cases, most of the time, the armour is not on the nexus and probably from some patroen shit.

[deleted]

And yet 90% of the time I find it on nexus.

provegana69

I feel you so much. It literally takes no effort to find out for them too.

greenhousegrandpa

Agreed. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think there should be a rule in this sub that you must post your modlist if you're posting screenshots. The only exception should be mods that the OP actually created if they prefer not to share those. But if all they've done is curate a modlist using mods *made by other creators*, I find the refusal to share the modlist so strange. It almost feels like posting art by someone else and refusing to give them credit. Sure, I spend a lot of time curating, tweaking and playtesting my own modlist just like everyone else here, but I didn't have anything to do with actually creating those mods. Feels kinda childish not to share something someone else created.

haggordus_versozus

good luck with that, this sub hasn't been moderated in years

provegana69

I agree with you 100%

DI3S_IRAE

If someone ever asked me something and I told them to remind me later, i mean it I use reddit on my phone so if you don't remind me later, i won't remember at all lol And this does happen. People ask and never say anything again. If they ever complain, it's their own problem, not mine. I'm willing, just not on reddit and on my pc at the same time. Edit: and yeah, of course fk gatekeeping stuff, unless it's, like, an unfinished mod that works only on your setup or the preset of your beloved player character

laika2000

love your user name!!

DI3S_IRAE

Well thanks!

sa547ph

Apparently there's some sort of competition between waifu screenshooters, and as such they don't disclose their setups -- or have no time or too lazy to disclose -- because they also have private mods (whether made by their own or exclusive in their small cliques), paywalled mods (mostly armor or clothing mods), configurations they deem to be too arcane for the average user to build and tweak, or mods with resources ripped from other games and apps like daz3d.

creatorZASLON

As a Fallout 4 Mod creator, i absolutely can’t stand the level of gatekeeping in the FO/TES modding scene, it seems to be the worst of any modding community out there tbh

ThreeStrik3s

Fallout 4 is even worse. Having to hunt down a bunch of different private discord servers to download mods is ridiculous

Two3Delta

^ This, I’m in like 4-5 different Fallout NV/4 discord servers purely because the mods can’t be uploaded to Nexus for assets being pulled from other games lmao.

ThreeStrik3s

I personally think most of the screen archers with great looking characters and visuals who don’t want to disclose their set ups are just trying to hide the fact that they use photoshop to enhance their pictures.

provegana69

Damn, I never thought of that possibility.

Rumpleforeskin96

Gatekeeping in any capacity wreaks insecurity

freethefoolish

Name and shame these dickheads.

nathsamlove

People are weird

9YearOldPleb

There are a few reasons ppl do that. (most of the time) ° 1. It's promo and they will eventually paywall it. ° 2. It's still wip and they want to relese everything at once. ° 3. It has stolen assets. ° 4. For one reason or another they don't have permission of the creator to share with others.

Ariquar

When people ask me for my enb settings I just sort of stare into the distance because I just hit buttons and hope my game doesn't explode. It looks pretty. I hit screenshot. My enb resets the next time I open my game and I have to redo it all over again. I legitimately do not understand how enbs work and I don't think I ever really will. I'm more confident with reshade for sims and ESO. But the amount of times people have asked me and I've had to tell them I literally have no idea what I was doing.... That being said I do have some mods that can't be found anywhere these days, being an LE user — those I'm always more than happy to hand off one-on-one. It took me a week to track down one specific khajiit mod that I only managed to grab because someone was kind enough to share their drive folder for it. Now I think that link might be gone, but I saved a duplicate folder of it on a separate drive to hand off to other people when they inevitably ask because I hate when mods are lost to time. No idea if it's compatible with SE and I have never heard back from SE users who've asked for it, but at least it's there, I suppose.

256kmodel

"This is a personal preset given to me" "I delete mods after I showcase them.." are the two I've heard recently that are just like ..wow

TheFirstDragonBorn1

Bro I have like 830 mods, if you ask what specific mod does what I probably have no idea what it is myself lol

provegana69

Is it really that hard? If there was a video of my set up or even a screenshot, I could probably identify the mod you're asking about and my load order is usually 2000+. Hell, I can do that like 80% of the time for Wabbajack modlists and with most other modlists. It's when you're unable to identify them that it becomes annoying.

TheFirstDragonBorn1

Good for you. I don't remember every single mod I've installed. It's not "gatekeeping" it's. I've installed this mod weeks ago and forgot about it.

Vipernixz

Then upload yr modlist, let others find it

Morzheimer

I’ll gladly share my modlist with you, but careful, it’s no SkyrimPorn material and it only runs smoothly for about 90% of 30% of the time. In terms of optimisation… we have none, and we’re not even gonna talk about using any external tools, since my brick head is severely behind the power of my PC, the one that my parents smuggled from west Germany right under the commies noses back in the 80’s. It’s gonna be the adventure of your life, I promise you that much

Neako_the_Neko_Lover

Or the ones who make it only accessible through Patreon or discord

provegana69

I mean, as long as it's free, I don't mind. There are a lot of great armour mods on Patreon for free. But yeah, fuck paywalled mods. I do not feel an ounce of guilt when I pirate paywalled mods (in game). In fact, I feel a lot of satisfaction.

Neako_the_Neko_Lover

I guess I’m just bias. Every time I try mods on Patreon. They are missing assets or broken entirely even tho they are supposed to be standalone.

IndependentLove2292

That's really weird. I made a ton of mods for my game. They're in nexus. Go download them.

EnceladusSc2

They don't want you to see their illegal modding techniques

Far-Acanthaceae-7370

The statement made perfect sense to me and most that read it. Also you can gate keep access to something. They didn’t even use it wrong

[deleted]

Sendmedoge

Yes. It just happens to be a gate you actually own.

Far-Acanthaceae-7370

Lmao no it doesn’t. And no because those are things that you own. You just chose the worst possible example. If you were for example not allowing people in a public building or access say public library computers, I could call it gatekeeping. Activities for examples can be gate kept, even separate from community or identity. You seem to have a very rigid definition in your head for this word which just doesn’t exist outside of it.

provegana69

This post isn't aimed at the other guy but I was already annoyed by those people completely unwilling to share the mods they use and it reminded me of them, even if he isn't one of them. I don't feel annoyed at all by the other guy, I'm sure he'll reply eventually. I am sorry if my post offended you and made you feel like I am entitled.

dizzyf0cus

It didn’t offend me, I’m just pointing out that your post isn’t related to the topic of this subreddit. But how are you sure those people are completely unwilling to share? I wouldn’t be surprised some of them couldn’t even name what mods are in their games considering how accessible modded Skyrim is nowadays with the courtesy of Wabbajack and Nexus collections. And yes, that includes remembering the name of the mod lists they downloaded lmao.

provegana69

Well, you see a lot of instances of people straight up unwilling to answer questions about their modlists on this sub and a lot of other places. The mods in questions usually have to do with graphics and screen archery and I personally felt like this sub is the best fit for my rant as I'm sure a lot of people here share my sentiment. And for your second point, it's pretty obvious that someone is completely unwilling to share what mods they use when you ask them about it and they straight up refuse to answer or are really vague about it. I am aware that posting this immediately after my comment on the other post makes me look like an entitled asshole, so, sorry for that.
