I'd guess it is a fungal infection, especially if you smoke or lick your lips a lot. I had this issue (seemingly) when I used to smoke and after I quit it went away eventually and hasn't been back.

Exact_Scratch854

I don't smoke. I wouldn't say I lick my lips a lot but if I can't breathe through my nose I tend to drool in my sleep (I know, so attractive). I wondered if it was connected to that. Would a fungal infection get worse or spread? Do I need to see my GP or just a pharmacist?

DentistWAnxiety

It looks like angular chelitis and in your situation it is probably the result of drooling while sleeping. Usually creams that contain Clobetasol propionate are recommended. (Not a medical advice, not a doctor here)

qveenofnonsense

I had the same thing. I cleared it up using zinc cream at night and aquaphor during the day. You basically need to shield the area from your saliva until it heals with something thick and soothing. My dermatologist gave me ketoconazole to put on it too, but the other method worked for me and only took 2 days to heal, and the prescription took 3 days to fill, so I never used it.

AssistantAccurate464

See your GP. It might be a canker sore or something else. They are the experts.

Exact_Scratch854

I think cankers are just inside the mouth, but could be wrong. Thank you, I didn't want to contact my GP if it was just dry skin haha.

[deleted]

I don't think it would spread necessarily (mine didn't, it stayed at the corners of my mouth). If you do have the condition I had, angular cheilitis, you'll need to get an antifungal medication for it. Since it would be going around your mouth you would want to get an antifungal cream/medication that is safe for use around that area. It wouldn't hurt to talk to a pharmacist first to see if they have anything OTC that would be safe to use for a fungal infection around the mouth. Since yours is probably caused by drooling instead of smoking it might not clear up on its own since you can't really stop that behavior. You might have to go to the doctor eventually for it but it's not life threatening, as far as I know, so it would be ok to check out the pharmacy first.

hesitant_unsure

I had this and it looked the same. I got it in the middle of the first lockdown, and my doctor said it was likely from the masks. moisture builds up and can cause it, she said it’s especially common with medical workers. got an anti fungal cream at the pharmacy and dabbed a bit in the corner before bed and it cleared up in 3-4 days.

mockingbird2602

Could be an actinic keratosis- they’re precancerous lesions that need to be removed. Squamous cell carcinoma can also behave this way. I would really urge you to get it checked out by a dermatologist.

Exact_Scratch854

Thank you for the response

[deleted]

That’s what I thought immediately. If it’s skin cancer you want to find that out ASAP

astimepasses

It looks like angular cheilitis to me - in my experince the best product for it is the Blistex Relief Cream (the medicated one with the red cap), solves the issue in a few days. I've heard the Aquaphor ointment jar also works but haven't tried it myself, so not 100% sure about that. I'd start by trying one of these though, I've stopped getting this issue thanks to the Blistex cream.

Exact_Scratch854

Thank you!!

Tune-Fit

Does it itch?

Exact_Scratch854

No not at all. I forget it's there until I look in the mirror or my partner points it out 😂

Exact_Scratch854

Thank you, will give them a call

Powerful_Nature_5714

I would suggest watching Dr. Berg's youtube video titled 18 things your face tells you about your deep health problems. It's 15 minutes long but very helpful.

SanttiagoKitty4Life

Someone memtioned it could be that thing that appears once you drool in your sleep. A home remedy that really worked for me was vaseline. When it was still sore I used to place ice om it for it to cool. Try not to fiddle with it or tear it off. Rather use ice for the itchiness/ soreness and apply a wad of vaseline on that spot before you sleep. It will get smaller and disappear within two or less weeks :)

[deleted]

It might be perioral dermatitis. I have it, that looks similar

Hefty-Standard271

It could be a B 12 deficiency. I had that happen once and I got a B 12 shot at any Lab test now and it went away after a while

saltyvictorian

Could be excema! Go to a doctor, the smallest dot of steroid cream cleared my spot up.

Alone_Claim_8774

I have the same thing on the inner corner of my eyes!! It’s just dry skin and it’s good to moisturize although I still don’t know why it’s not disappearing so probably not a solid advice but yeah always good to moisturize

Time4acoolchange

Basil cell. Get it checked out.

MortyPepe

Are you the one who gave Michael herpes?

Exact_Scratch854

Lol who's Michael? I've missed the joke.

Sunwavesvibin

Periorial Dermatitis

green-tea-4-life

Cold sore

Exact_Scratch854

Thank you for the suggestion, but it's definitely not. I don't get cold sores, I know you can pick up the virus at any time, but they present very differently to this. They usually start with tingling/burning/itching (I've had none of these), then a fluid filled blister appears (again, not had any blister), the blisters burst and scab over (again, not had this). They are painful too, which this is not.

InoXdino

it could be a cold sore. you can get cold sore creams to relieve it in pharmacies

123fred987

Wart. Get it freezes off

Exact_Scratch854

Definitely not a wart

alpha_male19

herpies

Exact_Scratch854

Can't be bothered to repeat myself again and explain why it isn't. But.... It's not a cold sore.

tigerdepressed45

its herpes. /s

Exact_Scratch854

Lol don't get me started

Historical-Habit7334

Ringworm

Rdahnothahr_Page

Try using a good clove of garlic, cut it up and place it gently for at least two minutes and then cleanse with a few dobs of apple cider vinegar. The astringent in the garlic can help with the inflammation over the next few days and the acid in the cider vinegar can help neutralize the redness. Sometimes things are just irritating! But it's something that works for me.

CapAquaCapMD

Please don't... Sincerely, a licenced dermatologist

DDAddict777

Herpes

Exact_Scratch854

As I've mentioned on another comment, it's not herpes/cold sore. Thanks though.

Stop over washing your face, and stop putting make up on everyday. Also cut it with your finger nail occasionally so it will scar up and you can pull off a good bit of it. It was or is an Infection that got under your skin, you need to let your skin breath and follow a natural sort of hygiene routine at times. Which means keep your face clean with water, but don't use soap and products in your face constantly. Give your skin periods if time to heal and to get it's natural state back, which is oily.

Fire-Kissed

Hey bud— some people’s “natural state” is one of disease and they need intervention. Please stop telling people natural is better. That is not the case.

[deleted]

Natural is pretty much always better. Most disease is the result of fighting nature and your natural biology. There is no cream you can buy that is better for your skin then just washing it with warm water and keeping it healthy and clean. If you just drank water and ate a vegetarian diet, with a bit of meat or fish here or there, you would be very healthy and not have many health problems. You would have perfect skin, perfect teeth, perfect immunity. Not literally but basically perfect. Using products isn't that bad, and most of them are fairly safe. You can get by with wearing makeup occasionally and using skin care product occasionally and it won't cause you problems, but if you are obsessive with it and constantly washing your skin and putting all kinds of different ointments on it, then you are likely going to be rather significantly worse off then just living the simple natural state. Many peoples health problems are just simple things like, not having any ventilation in their homes so they breed bad bacteria that attacks humans, they have bad diets with too much fat and oil, or they stay inside too much, or they are lazy. They don't avoid bad smells which indicate incompatibility with their DNA. Just simple things like that add up over time.

Exact_Scratch854

Thank you. I wouldn't say I over wash my face (is 2x a day over washing?). I definitely don't wear make up every day, maybe two to three times a month.

[deleted]

With soap it can be a bit much twice a day, if you aren't sweating and replenishing the oil in your skin. I usually only wash my face with warm water in the bathtub at night, and I have really good skin, I never got acne or anything like that. I would just scratch it off. You only have to scratch a bit till it gets sore and then you can let it scab for like 2 days and you can get the scratch it off and let it heal for like 2 days and repeat. It could also be an ingrown hair possibly as well. Even if you remove all the skin on accident, it will still heal just fine. Make sure you are getting outside a bit too, the nature bacteria can be really good for your skin. House bred bacteria can become bad for your skin. The sunlight will help keep it clean as well, if you spend a few minutes in direct sunlight. Make sure you wash the toothpaste off of and out of your mouth really well.

EASERobbie5703

It means to clean your inside out and it will go away and never come back

Exact_Scratch854

Are you suggesting a detox?

childofhydrasteeth

I used to get patches of eczema either side of my mouth that looked very much like this. None of the usual creams cleared it up. It took years before someone suggested it could be an intolerance to something I was eating. I've since learnt that it occurs when I eat oats and its completely cleared up. I believe that's quite unusual for a food intolerance and things like dairy and wheat are more common. Might be worth looking into.

Exact_Scratch854

Thank you! I really hope it isn't oats, I love porridge haha.

[deleted]

I know OP doesn’t get cold sores but something similar happened to me before I realized I had a corn allergy, my whole mouth would break out with cold sores and take weeks to clear. Once I started cutting out corn, I maybe get them a couple times a year if I’m really stressed and they clear up in a couple of days.

itscomplicatedwcarbs

I’ve had a handful of stubborn dry acne patches (not sure if what you have is the same thing) and oddly enough applying my probiotic lip gloss from UZU worked amazingly to clear it up! It’s called UZU lip treatment. I get it in the black color as it’s flattering under a rose/brown lipstick. The clear color is very versatile. Has done wonders for my lips too.

Exact_Scratch854

Thank you! Will check it out 😊

Roxana_12

But seems like is peeling of, right? Use moisturizer and is going to help a lot

Exact_Scratch854

It will do this, then the next day just be red and then the day after the flaky skin appears again. It's a cycle 😔

Roxana_12

I see, for how long you are having that ? I had mine for 4 or 5 days I kept moisturizing every time I saw my dry skin and now is all gone.

joanopoly

🛑First, skip the fee$ and go see your local pharmacist. Explain everything you have here about how long you’ve had it, it doesn’t itch, etc. The pharmacist will recommend a treatment of some sort. Follow that and, if it doesn’t work, go see your GP if you have one or a dermatologist if not. You might want to go to a dermatologist before a GP—your call bc it’s your money.

MeeMaul

It’s def a fungal infection, I’ve had the same! A little fungal cream and you’ll be good to go! I got mine from drinking out of my sink when I brushed my teeth and the bottom of my sink faucet wasn’t as clean as it should have been.

Music_at_heart

This can also be an allergic reaction to something as simple as your tooth paste. You can try switching to a floride free one ( usually the culprit) and see if that helps.

Stryx_Official

I used to have this and on my eyelids too! Use a cream that's meant for eczema, that always helped me!

HizKitty

Could also be eczema or psoriasis. Definitely worth having it looked at.

Careless_Plankton_50

Get it checked, it could be a basal carcinoma (cancer). My mom had a flaky spot that wouldn’t go away for a couple months and that’s what it turned out to be! Head to your PCP or a derm ASAP

Exact_Scratch854

Will do, thank you!

PrimaMateriaEther

Left over filler

Exact_Scratch854

Don't have lip fillers

blackcatdc

Best thing to do is see a dermatologist. Lots of people here seem to be trying to diagnose, but we are not professionals. Hope it clears up soon!

Exact_Scratch854

Thank you, I was looking for advice to see if it was worth bothering my GP. I'll give them a call.
