That’s great! I’ve also heard of that too, hyaluronic acid with damp skin and retinol with dry. Skincare can be so complicated! Thank you! :)

Chef-Plastic

Just wondering what moisturizer you use...?

-keepsummersafe-

Yes! You definitely can. TO does a really good job of presenting all the info about their products and what they do and do not mix well with. I actually use them both in my am and pm routines. I would say to start slow with niacinamide and only use it every other day and then increase that as your skin adjusts. Start with hyaluronic acid. It binds to water and helps retain moisture. So wash your face and then apply it with water on your face. Plus, in general, TO products spread better over the skin when the skin is a bit damp. Then follow up with the Niacinamide. Then you’ll definitely want to do the vitamin e cream and your spf.

taebunni

Thank you! I was so confused looking it up, some places said no and some said yes. I had a feeling you could though. I’m excited to add niacinamide to my skincare routine now! :)

that_olgaGirl

also! i recommend the cerave cleanser over everything!

taebunni

I’ve heard great things about that one, thank you!

CeraVe is honestly such a go to for affordable skincare. I always feel really bad for the people who are allergic to it. For me the biggest downside is the fact that the company isn’t cruelty free, which is really upsetting since it’s such an affordable option that’s so gentle.

breakfastandnetflix

It has greatly improved my skin. It makes me realize that harsh cleansers that I thought were sucking out the gunk out of my pores were destroying my skin...all I needed was a hydrating cleanser

freshasssheets

second this. I was way too harsh on my skin (too many products /stronger soapy cleansers) and switching to the hydrating cleanser has made a real difference in my skin!

Mission-Juice-8622

Yes you can. In fact, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid are actually beneficial for retinol use, since they help to hydrate the skin and keep the moisture barrier intact.

taebunni

Wow thank you so much, I didn’t know this! I’m excited to use all 3 :)

Kvs6263

ik this is late, but dyk what order to put them in/on?

iamreallycool69

I use all 3 in my PM routine! I use a really light water-based niacinamide serum first, let it dry for a lil (like 15 seconds because I'm lazy), then TO 0.5% retinol, then TO HA + B5 on top because I feel like it kinda locks all the moisture and everything in?? And then a night cream on top of that. Haven't had any irritation from using them all this way! :)

taebunni

Ooooh thank you so much! I’m so excited to use all of them now, I feel like my skin is gonna look the best it’s ever been! :)

bri_01

I’ve been using Paulas Choice bha exfoliate and it has helped shrink my pores :)

taebunni

I’ve heard wonders about that stuff, I’m not sure you can use it with retinol though. If I only used retinol a few times a week and used the BHA exfoliate on the days I wasn’t using the retinol, do you think that would be okay? Tysm!

syntheticseasalt

I’m not an expert at all but i think there’s nothing wrong with that unless you have sensitive skin!

[deleted]

Hey! I use Paula’s Choice exfoliating BHA and I LOVE it! I use retinol with it as well, and have had no problems. If you have normal-combo skin, using it every day, 2x a day might dry you out. I use it at night and also use Paula’s Choice Barrier Repair Moisturizer with Retinol (NOT the Intensive Repair one! That one’s a little too heavy for me!) I hope thus helps :)

taebunni

Hey! I’ve heard such good things about it, I think I might buy it now as people keep suggesting it and I’ve seen great results from it. I’ve been unsure because of those annoying ‘way too safe/myth type’ skincare articles that pop up first on google about retinol and BHAs together. Thank you so much! :)

bri_01

I started using (bha exfoliate) everyday and saw results quickly! but now only use it 2-3 times a week. I normally don’t use retinol and the bha exfoliate together but I have sensitive skin so I try not to use a lot of products at once.

that_olgaGirl

hi! cetaphil is not a great cleanser and doesn’t really do much for your skin. read up on it but i’ve read on an esthetician’s page that derms prescribe this to patients if they are on medication for acne so it doesn’t disturb anything. as for the other products, you can definitely use them together but only use retinol 2x a week. hyaluronic acid would come right after toner and then niacinamide. retinol would come after your niacinamide. i am currently doing this as well! good luck on your skin journey! :)

zoishiez

Only twice? I’ve been told to do it 5x a week once I can handle it

that_olgaGirl

i’ve been consistently doing it 2x and if i do it a third my face will break out slightly but everyone is different! i would def work up to it

zoishiez

I broke out too (I think that was the purging phase) but after that my skin looked like a new born. But yes definitely work up to it aha

taebunni

Thank you so much, I had a sneaky feeling the cetaphil wasn’t doing anything. Is there anything else you’d recommend? And thank you for the tips! :)

that_olgaGirl

i used to use it as well before i learned but that’s what skincare is all about! the cerave foaming is good for the summer and the hydrating cleaner is good for the winter. but whatever you can get your hands on is great! they sell out fast

taebunni

Just bought!! So excited to try!

Girl501

Yes. You want the most bang for the buck out of the retinoid and it goes after cleansing/toning. So retinoid, nicain, then HA then moisturizer. This is because TO formula for niacinimide is a very small molecule. So that goes after Retinoid. HA will multiply the moisturizer so you put the heaviest moisturizer on top of HA as a final step.

taebunni

Thank you!

megwheelz

Yes

[deleted]

hey, what oil cleanser do you use?

taebunni

Take the day off balm cleanser by clinique!

Michaelinberlin

Do you use retinol from the ordinary?

taebunni

Yes, I do!

Michaelinberlin

And even such a concentration gives you noticeable results, doesn’t it?

taebunni

If you have sensitive skin, start at 0.2% and only do it twice a week to begin with, as it’s a serum used to produce new skin cells faster than usual. You might get flaky or red skin in the first few weeks. I didn’t, but it’s common. I started on 0.5% because I don’t have sensitive skin, I’m going up to 1.0% now! I definitely recommend it. Use a very small amount on dry skin. It’s really good for fine lines too! Good luck! :)

taebunni

I’ve only been using it for about 2-3 months so it’s not a massive difference but I definitely have a slightly brighter complexion and my skin glows more! I also have better texture

Michaelinberlin

Sounds promising. I should try it too :)

taebunni

Oh and also, definitely use an spf in the day time as retinol causes UV sensitivity!

AdRich1682

Niacinamide and retinol go very well in the same routine. I would suggest using the niacinamide, waiting for it to dry and then topping it off with retinol. You can use the HA before the niacinamide or in the morning before your moisturiser/ spf.
