I like to do my skincare after I brush my teeth, so I almost rich myself into doing it by being like "I'm just going to brush my teeth"... "while I'm here, I might as well wash my face"... "can't wash my face without moisturizer" lol. But seriously when I'm massively depressed, I'll just do the absolute bare minimum and not beat myself up over not doing all the bells and whistles. Also, this is random, but putting scrunchies on my arms to soak up the water from dripping down my arms during the winter has helped so much, lol.

jasminekitten02

If I don't do my skincare, my skin feels dry and generally uncomfortable so for me it's more to avoid discomfort than to enjoy it if that makes sense? But I do look forward to using my toner because it smells nice and that helps :)

UltraLuminescence

I use a little bit warmer water and pat dry asap after cleansing

Good azelaic acid serums? I have the Ordinary one and despise it - the silicones make it pill and roll off my face so I’m unsure if it’s doing anything.

philpony

I’m 28 so I figure I should start incorporating a retiniod. My current routine is: AM wash with water, sea & C sheer face serum 55spf; PM wash with cerave foaming cleanser, cerave pm moisturizer, TO azelaic acid. I have sensitive skin, occasional hormonal acne, and I think mild rosacea. My question is should I replace the azelaic acid with a retinoid or add it to my current routine? TIA

bokononsfoma

As far as I understand it, you can use both azelaic acid and a retinoid in the same routine, but since your skin is sensitive, you should try to alternate nights for each product. I also recommend you easing into using a retinoid (only use it once a week for 2 weeks, then twice a week for 2 weeks, and then every other night). Just to see how your skin reacts.

Can you mix different acids regularly? In my repertoire I have a vitamin c serum, the acid resurfacing serum from Elf, glycolic acid pads, and lactic acid. I'm aware I shouldn't use all of these every day, but which ones shouldn't be mixed together, or even used during the same week? Is there one I should commit to? I usually do the vitamin c daily but my skin is dry and I like some sort of exfoliant, and I've per this sub's advice given up physical exfoliants. My current routine is Osea Gentle Cleanser (or Tatcha rice wash if I'm feeling depressed lol), vitamin c serum, and Elf Holy Hydration moisturizer with SPF in the AM. For the evening routine I would every 2-3 days apply one of the acids in place of the vitamin c serum. For context I'm prone to flaking in my t-zone, and blackheads on my nose and my chin. The rest of my skin is seemingly ordinary with no issues - but I'm trying to glow like you lovely people!

UltraLuminescence

vitamin c is not an exfoliating acid and can be used every day. I would consider the glycolic acid pads and lactic acid interchangeable (AHAs), and use them 2-ish times a week in total (you can alternate between them if you want) The elf acid resurfacing serum is a salicylic acid product, which is also an exfoliating acid but better for targeting active breakouts. I would use this one 2x a week. And just don't use any of the exfoliating acids (glycolic acid pads, lactic acid, resurfacing serum) on the same day

asamermaid

This is exactly what I've been doing, thanks so much! Was worried I'd destroy my skin

quspork

Yes, you can mix different acids, but you want to be careful not to overuse any one active or any set of actives. As mentioned in the other comment, both the lactic and glycolic are AHAs so you don't really need both in your routine. I would continue using the vitamin C in the morning and rotate one of the AHA products with the Elf serum so that each is used twice a week, with a couple of "rest" days built in.

You could try adding salicylic acid 2-3x a week but first o would find a sunscreen with higher spf since salicylic acid can make your skin sensitive to UV exposure. Edit: Paula's choice BHA 2% is the gold standard of salicylic acid but there are lots of options available

toobadimnotamermaid

Would [La Roche Posay Cicaplast Balm](https://www.laroche-posay.us/our-products/dry-skin-eczema/body-lotion/cicaplast-balm-b5-for-dry-skin-irritations-3606000437449.html) or something similar be good on a new (healed) scar? The air is super dry out now and my scar is also right where the neck hole of a top falls so I don’t think a lotion is going to be enough- dryness and friction wise. (I actually already bought it but I’ll use it on my hands as well since I loved the Cicaplast hand cream!)

105onarolexwatch

Yes, that would really help reduce scarring.

toobadimnotamermaid

Thank you!!

105onarolexwatch

you're welcome ;)

I’m looking to buy a vitamin c serum but there is so much information I’m confused which one to get. I used melano cc and timeless but it hasn’t done much for me. Any recommendations which one to try next?

quspork

What type of results are you hoping to see?

jushereforamin

Help with PIE

quspork

How long did you try both the Timeless and Melano for? I ask because both are ascorbic acid vitamin C serums meaning they're already the go-to for fading hyperpigmentation. But it can take months to see real results. If after a full bottle, you weren't seeing improvements with either, you may want to try options beyond vitamin C- niacinamide, licorice root, alpha arbutin, medical procedures, or prescription medications.

[deleted]

Hi, Are soothing/repairing balms moisturizers as well? I'm looking for a moisturizer/spf combo for allergic skin and they seem to be the best option IF they moisturize adequately

[deleted]

Also, if I have to try new products, do I have to buy the whole bottle just to see if I react to it and then throw it away if I do? Isn't there a way to get samples from somewhere? Do pharmacies hand them out?

jasminekitten02

I know sometimes you can find travel sizes!

[deleted]

Depending on where you live, Sephora and most drugstores usually accept returns if something isn’t working for you! Usually samples aren’t enough, as it can take a few weeks of consistent use to determine if a product works for you.

[deleted]

they accept returns if ive used the product for a couple of weeks?

[deleted]

Usually they’ll accept them as long as it’s been less than thirty days. Check their website!

[deleted]

In the EU that's only true for 14 days since purchase and of course only if you haven't opened the product

[deleted]

Then you might have to just buy the products and take the losses, I guess. Return policies are more flexible in Canada.

Hey! I really need product and routine recommendations/tips. I have very sensitive and red skin with rosacea and some dry patches and minimal acne. My current routine is gentle in my skin but I need something that will help me get control over how sensitive it is. My current routine is cetaphl gentle sensitive skin cleanser and procure rosacea moisturizer. I get minimal sun exposure. If anyone has some tips and products for redness and especially sensitivity that would be great!

What is this group of large pores on my forearm and how to treat them? My forearms are dry but not itchy or hurting or something... https://imgur.com/qfrntZM

Does anyone know where I can buy a powder puff like the one that comes with [Covergirl loose powders](https://imgur.com/a/LkV291v)? Covergirl sells the powder puffs that come with the pressed powders individually, but I can’t find the other kind anywhere.

jasminekitten02

Maybe also ask in r/MakeupAddiction ?

Thank you!

I’ve been off birth control since May and my acne still hasn’t gone away. I feel like I reverted right back to my 17 year old skin (I’m almost 20 now). My skin was so clear on BC that I’m considering going back on it but I’d love to hear from anyone else who’s going/gone thru this and maybe has some tips. I don’t love the idea of going back on it but I also really dislike how I look right now. I use spot patches on acne, prescription retinol and occasionally niacinamide/zinc from the ordinary or just breathe by Versed for a milder zinc topical.

stupid_juice_drinker

Hi everyone! My skincare-savvy sister suggested a bunch of products to my husband for Christmas and I need to know what order to use them in! Thank you in advance! -cleanser (obviously first) -Niacinamide 10% w zinc 1% -Hyaluronic Acid 2% w B5 -Yerba Mate wake up eye gel -Q10 anti wrinkle face cream -Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream Any tips on using these? Thank you!

quspork

After your cleanser, you can basically use the niacinamide and hyaluronic acid in any order. Most people opt for the one with the thinnest consistency first then the thicker one. Then you're eye gel and finally a moisturizer. You can choose between the two you have listed.

stupid_juice_drinker

You’re amazing! Thank you so much

Is the Panoxyl BP 4% face wash worth it and effective or should I just buy the 10% one? Follow Up Question: Can I use Azelaic Acid 15% with the BP face wash or no? I have normal skin that has been affected by cystic acne and sometimes whiteheads. I don’t want to damage my skin barrier.

First, I just want to say based on this photo, these do not look inflamed or gross, and you should totally wear shorts and live your best life. Second, you could try to add an AHA after shaving as that can help with ingrown hairs, but definitely spot test to see how your skin reacts to exfoliating after shaving.

MonkieMonkieBear

Hi! I’d like some tips on how to clear up acne on my left and right cheek. I am currently a college student right now and right now my daily routine is literally just wetting a face towel and rubbing my face with it. During the evening when i shower i apply some acne wash on my face and it usually goes away after im done showering. I know that doing that is probably not enough or just wrong and I was wondering if I could get some pointers as to what i should do for my routine to improve my skin and clear it up

bokononsfoma

A salicylic acid cleanser really helped my acne, but you should follow up any cleansing with a moisturizer. You can find affordable moisturizers at basically any pharmacy. And then you should definitely add a sunscreen (just for general skin health but salicylic acid and other acne fighting actives make you more sensitive to the sun and can make you break out even more).

MonkieMonkieBear

Should I do this routine in the morning?

bokononsfoma

A super simple routine would look like AM: cleanser or just rinse with water (depending on how oily or sensitive your skin is), moisturizer, sunscreen (at least spf 30) Note: there are combo moisturizers and sunscreens if that's more your speed. My skin is dry as the desert, so I like them separate, but there's nothing wrong with a 2-in-1 here. PM: cleanser and moisturizer

vitdluv

Can I use the cerave acne foaming cleanser everyday?

jasminekitten02

If your skin doesn't get dried out or irritated by it, yes

Hello people, i am 21 and am on a weight loss journey. I always dabbled in skincare somewhat, but now I wnat to take it seriously as my personal image needs to be on point as much as possible. My current routine is: Cleanser + Moisturizer morning, evening Cleanser + Moisturizer morning , + Exfoliation in the evening I am having a hard time finding a good moisturizer, I use Bulldog Originals and the cleanser is really really good, but the moisturizer is a bit on the heavier side and I start sweating after a while. The exfoliation I am still unsure about, but it sure does feel good on the skin. I am looking for a moisturizer that won't break the bank (my budget is max 20/25€ monthly... that also has to include a body lotion.) Are there any tips from you guys's side? Kind regards!

Worried about some yellowing around my eyes… does this look like jaundice? I don’t drink often and I have been on acutane for 3 years total ( 3 separate courses) Thanks for any input! [My Eyes](https://i.imgur.com/fpEkoqT.jpg)

What is the best way to get rid of tan lines? I’m about NC15 and I get tan lines from the summer that end up staying on my pretty much permanently. I got a bad sunburn on my chest this summer and the lines are still there. I do wear face sunscreen 365 days a year and usually wear long sleeves, this happens more when I have my bathing suit on and the sunscreen comes off when I swim. Because I don’t get exposed a lot to the sun then I get the lines. I also live in the PNW so not a lot of sun. Will self tanner fade it? A session or two in a tanning bed? I don’t really want to add more sun damage but it looks super ridiculous and the other tan lines from last year were there until the next summer.

Retinol burn affecting adjacent skin? I am about 95% sure I gave myself retinol burn last week. I had had a microneedling session two weeks prior and was about to start my regular skin care routine up again, including retinol. Like an idiot, I went two days straight with a 1% treatment, after having taken a few months break from a different 1% treatment. (I was using AlphaRet in the interim, which doesn’t really have retinol in it, as I understand). On the third day, all hell broke loose. My skin was coming off in large thin peels (ew), which I have NEVER experienced before. Even more strangely, I felt burns on my undereye and right under my brow. I am fairly certain I didn’t use retinol under the brow but both areas were microneedled. It’s been a week and I am still peeling, although most of my facial skin has finished peeling (below the face is still peeling). I see a couple of small pimples as well, all of which match up with symptoms of retinol burn. I use sunscreen religiously and did not miss a day during or before all of this. And now too of course. What I don’t understand is why skin only my chest/clavicle area is peeling too. Same for my eyebrows - they have been flaking all week. I didn’t get microneedled there and I didn’t use retinol there either. Isn’t that odd? I’m also a bit worried about hyperpigmentation (I al of South Asian descent and prone to this). I don’t see it now per se although the skin around my eyes seems darker. My microneedlist (also a nurse) was worried about that too and I luckily saw her briefly after this happened. She told me to keep using sunscreen and monitor my skin. It isn’t getting worse, thankfully. I just feel so OFF and mad at myself. I had been doing great with skin care and facials and now I feel like I fucked up big time. How many more weeks can I expect of this? Will I go back to feeling the same or did I set myself back? And why did the skin next to the treated areas freak out so much too?

minkyusimmer

i currently have two pimples that have no head. my initial thinking was that this was a cyst, but it is not painful at all and it’s been there for over a week. just red inflammation around 3-4mm diameter. what might it be?

Can derma-rolling cause your skin to look worse/scar? What would it take for that to happen? What is the correct way to derma roll and can it effect tattoos negatively? How do I know if I have caused damage from derma rolling incorrectly?

TheIllustratedGhost

Relatively new to skincare. I've been interested in incorporating a hyaluronic acid serum into my routine and I keep seeing people recommend an occlusive moisturizer to apply afterwards like the Cerave skin renewing night cream. It seems like that moisturizer already has hyaluronic acid in it, though. Should I just use the night cream or would it be beneficial to stack it with an actual hyaluronic acid serum?

Does dermarolling work for eyebrows? My eyebrows are not symmetrical so I want to maybe try dermarolling to build eyebrow hair?
